Since he has a nickname it kind of implies that they wanted to shorten it to one syllable. I used to pronounce it that way too. SAY-zed is the one I use now though. Michel Kramer says it that way too. I've always said KELL-seer, even though it world it would be KELL-see-ay. But Brandon says KELL-seer too so I am vindicated. I say ee-LEND VEN-chur. But based on the German pronunciation (it's an actual word), It would be AY-lind. I say it wrong though, because of Elendel and his nickname, El, the correct pronunciation is probably EL-end. STRAWF (Straff) day-MOO for Demoux. I'm confident in that one. KAL-uh-din for Kaladin. DAL-in-ar KO-lin (I think Brandon pronounces it ko-LIN though). YASS-nuh for Jasnah. Confident that they have the J=Y thing there. Shuh-LAWN for Shallan. re-NAR-in for Renarin AY-do-lin for Adolin Suh-DAY-us for Sadeas, but I think Brandon says SAY-dee-us. ZAY-hel for Zahel. I've said ZETH for Szeth but Ninja Yodeler's sounds awesome so I'm gonna do that. muh-RA-see (short a in the middle) for Marasi, but her nickname (Mara) means it's probably actually MAH-ruh-see. I've always said sah-REEN for Sarene, but I think I like sah-REN-ay now. RAY-oh-din for Raoden. vih-VEEN-uh for Vivenna. Oh, and SET for Cett.

I pronounce Sazed as SAY-zed, mostly because his nickname is "Saze" so it only makes sense as SAY-zed or SAYZD. But then SAYZD takes just as long to say as "Saze," so my logic takes the first option. Also, I say may-LAWN.

Yeah it was a WoB and that's pretty much all it said. I'll look for it. EDIT: Found it: Source.

Ages (If you are comfortable)
Khyrindor replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
17. Would be graduating this year if it weren't for the crazy year last year (I had a job two days a week, my brother was in the hospital 7 hours out from where I lived, and we moved). As is, just starting Grade 11, homeschooled. -
Hoid remarks that he has "dark skin", but he spoke perfect Alethi without an accent. Shallan notes that he has "dark skin like a man from the Makabaki kingdoms." So I suppose that's my mistake. It isn't necessarily important, just relevant.

WoB says it would have some very weird effects. Also, I think you're wrong about the fact that you wouldn't be able to burn a spike that someone else was used up in making. Hemalurgy is all about stealing, so the Feruchemy rule of not using others' metalminds likely doesn't apply. Hemalurgy works by tearing a piece of someone's soul off, and then stapling it to yourself. If someone burned that spike instead, you would literally be burning away a piece of someone's soul. Perhaps you would have their stolen abilities tenfold while you're burning it, or maybe some of their soul would still graft onto you. Personally I think it's a bit of both.

The other Shards have all been held by the same Vessel for thousands of years (that we know of). On Roshar, the Spren act as Honor's 'agents' and it is likely that He has an agreement with Odium as part of the Oathpact that prohibits him gheating and giving a ton of free technology to the people. And Dalinar's vision saw people with Bronze Age technology, while current Roshar has basically Renaissance tech without gunpowder. The way most people interpret the Oathpact is that the ten Heralds would be tortured in Braize until one of them breaks. When they do, a Desolation comes and wipes out most of the planet, and they start over from the Bronze Age. This time, there was only one Herald being tortured: Taln. He took much longer to break than the other Heralds, and this time around, the humans have much more technology at their disposal. Fabrials are being invented and re-invented constantly, and there is a whole Devotiary "devoted" to science, and history. Harmony, on the other hand, is a brand new Shard. He felt the need to tell the humans a lot of what He knew when he Ascended. There are arguments for and against His decision, but I won't get into that.

Well, in Secret History, he went further away from Scadrial than Ruin could, which implies that he left the world. Whether he knew what he was doing or not, he left Scadrial. However, it was still all misty so he probably didn't "totally" leave, he might have been close by, halfway out, or perhaps on another planet in the greater Scadrial system. Or something. Either way, while it's not confirmed, I have no doubts that Kell has left again in search of answers, once he found a body to Worldhop with (which we know he did).

Shardblades were based off of the Honorblades by the spren. And anyway, Nightblood is closer to an Honorblade than a Shardblade, since both of those consume Investiture, while Shardblades do not. As for the timeline, I could speculate as follows: Kelek would have been a Herald for many many years before the last Desolation, at which point, he figured the Oathpact was complete. So he went home, back to Nalthis, where he asked Endowment to help him forget. He started a new life as a Returned, Kalad the Peacegiver, and became one of the 5 Scholars. That happened all 500 years before Warbreaker, and if he's Returned that leaves a whole life before then. I don't find it likely, but it would be an interesting twist.

But if the holder of Nightblood considered Odium to be evil, then he would be able to "destroy" it.

Atium's other effects, and Hoid [WoR, SH and BoM Spoilers]
Khyrindor replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I do know that. And I've theorized that he uses feruchemical luck to do so. But this also makes sense. I'm simply wondering if Hoid uses it at all, maybe to get a "big picture" and actually know what do do rather than leaving it to blind luck. -
For anyone who doesn't know, the Spiritual Realm is a place full of Connections. We have known this for a little while because of a WoB, but we haven't grasped its implications fully until Secret History. In the novella, we saw Kelsier "see" connections to things, as though it were a line tying things together. For example, one can have connection to a place, other people, or Shards, as explained in Bands of Mourning. When an allomancer burns Atium, they peek into the Spiritual Realm, and see possible futures based on that knowledge. IIRC, the Atium Shadows are really just a side effect of what Atium really does. Brandon has hinted that this is the case a few times. Recall that moment at the end of HoA, when Elend burned Atium with Duralumin. WoB states that he saw into the Spiritual Realm, and saw Preservation's plan, Ruin's plan, and his own part. He saw that he had to die for Vin to do what she had to do. Most of this is quite well-known, I think, so onto the main point of the speculation: What would Hoid be able to do with Atium? Does he know all that it does? Before Kelsier broke the Pits, the Perpendicularity there was Hoid's, and most other worldhoppers' usual way into the Physical Realm, so Hoid would likely have had relatively easy access to Atium. Since we have seen him use Allomancy, I presume that he has the power to use Atium. Is this how he knows things in advance? Does he have his own way to see into the Cognitive Realm? Brandon has stated that Hoid gives certain characters little pushes depending on what he thinks they need. He teases Adolin about his problems with ladies, and gives Kaladin a story or two. He wouldn't do these things based on nothing, would he? I speculate that Hoid has a (rudimentary) understanding about some possible futures in the Cosmere, and has been trying to position some or our friends into key spots to pick the future that he likes best, whatever that is. He also knows where and when to show up for key events. Jasnah's return, and Taln-not-Taln's return. And I think that he uses the mostly unknown aspects of Atium to do this. Discuss.

The Heralds don't necessarily have to be native to Roshar. Taln-not-Taln is said to look different from the typical Alethi. That said...I don't know. If he were a Herald, say Kelek, would he be able to use Stormlight for rosharan magic systems? Namely powering his Honorblade or the Surges that came from that? I seem to remember a WoB about how he did worldhopping when he was younger, but I couldn't find it. He based Nightblood off of a Shardblade, which means he knows more than the average Rosharan about the nature of those.

Maybe Hoid and frost just have a spanreed

I've thought about it before. Kalad = Kalak maybe? That's why people say "Kalak's Breath!" as a curse. However, I seem to remember a WoB about Vasher that I will now look for. EDIT: For Yata: So it's not impossible, as you said.

I thought that was Thaidakar. Did I mix them up?

I seem to remember it as well. It might have been in a signing thread last year.

I think OP is saying that, there is feruchemical compounding, where you store an attribute in a metal, and then burn the metalmind, and then allomantic compounding, which is somehow reversed. Sanderson has said it is possible, but we don't know for sure how it's done. It is possible that you can burn pewter, and store that extra power in a pewter metalmind; thus when you tap it, you get allomantic pewter power as well as the muscular strength provided by the metalmind.

I've thought about that too. They might have a few select people who have gotten the spikes required to make a few of the multi-metalminds. However, they don't have many metalborn, and those that are metalborn are treated as royalty. It seems odd to consider them butchering their own royalty. That said, I agree, the Sovereign probably taught a few of them about Hemalurgy.

Of the published books we know Elantris is first. After it comes Mistborn Trilogy 1 (and Secret History). Roughly 315-340 years after that is the first half of Stormlight Archive (including unpublished books). After book five of that, and before book six comes the Wax and Wayne era of Mistborn. Warbreaker is sometime before Way of Kings. Sixth of the Dusk is last that we've seen so far. We don't know when Emperor's Soul, or Shadows of Silence in the Forests of Hell. Most of the unpublished works that we know of are all before or around Elantris timewise. Liar of Partinel is first IIRC, then Dragonsteel, and White Sand could be after Elantris. On the fights between magics...It might be coming soon. Lots of Cosmery things happening recently. :3
