Do we know Vasher's actual age? He was Returned twice wasn't he? He could be any number of years old. Also, he has worldhopped before, which led to his inspiration to create Nightblood.

Alright, perhaps you're right about it only being metal, but there are WoBs saying that the reason metal is so important on Scadrial is because of the planet's spiritual focus, and not the Investiture of Ruin and Preservation. I also remember one saying that Ruin didn't create the template of Hemalurgy, he just used it on his planet, which, like I said above, has the focus of metal. Maybe if Ruin instead went to Roshar, he would have used Hemalurgy in the form of gems. If 16 is Preservation's number, then why would ruin have the same number of metals in "his" magic system? Because it isn't "his". He is just using a cosmere wide hack on Scadrial's focus: metal. I thought that the "3 metallic arts" was an inworld name. Brandon has said numerous times that Hemalurgy is cosmere wide. You can steal practically anything with it, and it is more versatile than we've seen. There was a WoB on my search that implied that you could spike "liking chicken" out of people. I personally think that it has more to do with the bindpoints, and the spiritual connection to the victim than the material of the spike.

EDIT: http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt=%27hemalurgy%27 Take a look through there moogle. There are at least a dozen WoBs that outright say Hemalurgy works with everything. I tried to quote most of the relevant ones but my post broke and only posted one of the WoBs. I'll put this one down:

It might be possible that the decay destroys the Investiture. After a while it could be a danger. But I believe that Hemalurgy is most dangerous because it is possible to create people like the Lord Ruler or worse. And, perhaps such people could hold enough Investiture inside them to ascend and become another scary mini shard.

Yaezir actually would mean Jezrien, people deified the Heralds to become a lot more than they were/are. This has lead some people to suspect that the old man at the Beggar's Feast in the prologue of WoK was Jezrien. Also, it fits the pronounciation. It's just that, to a lot of people, Jezrien and Honor/Tanavast/Stormfather/Almighty are one and the same, but coming from a Herald, Nin likely meant Jezrien the Herald. Back on topic, I like your theory a lot, Icy. Have an upvote. I also don't agree that Taln is Rayse because of the reasons you mentioned; Hoid seems to have beef with Rayse, so I don't think he would have welcomed him into a sizable city. However, does Hoid know what's up? Who knows. He definitely knows more than we do. (Also, it's generally frowned upon to double post, icy, usually people will edit their original, or wait until someone else posted.) About your second theory, I never drew those parallel's myself, but I'm hesitant to agree that Mraize is the real Taln. Mraize is a known Thaylen worldhopper with a babsk, Iyatil. I just don't know why someone like the Herald of War wouldn't be trusted on his own without the supervisation of his babsk. Unless Iyatil is WAY more important than we think. Anyway, just my two cents. Welcome to the Shard! You'll like it here. EDIT: Some kind of weird glitch happened, sorry about the weirdness, I tried to edit my original post but instead this one posted.

"Don't be green from the ground."

Thousands of years old, but he hasn't lived all of those years. He has regenerative abilities, at least 300 breaths, some form of Feruchemy, Allomancy, and Yolish Lightweaving. We know because of the excerpt in the Elantris 10th anniversary that Hoid was present at the Shattering, and is effectively immortal. In the letter, it is implied that he somehow gained his immortality rather than being born with it. However, WoB states he does not use Hemalurgy. Also, he has that staff that lets you translate Aons and other Elantrian magic. But I don't think we know where The Emperor's Soul sits in the sequence yet.

You're right, it would kill them. But in the same way that one can hold more than one Breath, I don't see why you couldn't hold more than one Divine Breath. I'll dig into the annotations later, but I couldn't find any WoBs that contradict what I propose. EDIT: I have found this: Source. Scroll to #13.

Perhaps Cultivation trapped Odium in the same way that one traps a tree in the ground in which its planted. It can't harm anyone, but it keeps getting stronger and stronger.

That is how they reformed to accept the gems on the pommel that fabrians added.

Intentionally splintering is a thing. That's just how Shards Invest. Small Breaths are Innate Investiture that is part of everyone's Identity. Endowment will Splinter a bit of her self with each Divine Breath. In the same way that Radient spren are sentient, Endowment's Splinters (The Divine Breaths) are sentient by themselves, but when in a person, conforms to their personality (opposite to a Shard, simply because there isn't enough raw Investiture and Intent to shape the person). However, once you give that Divine Breath an Intent, and put it into an object, it would gain Sentience and have an Intent. It just makes so much sense to me. I don't know who Awakened Nightbood, or how, but it wouldn't fit if they just gave him thousands of Breaths.

Paired Shards and Honour's Opposite
Khyrindor replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Isn't it confirmed that Ruin and Preservation are opposites? Source. Scroll to #5 -
We haven't seen everything that you can do with Breaths yet. But I could explain your points like so: 1. Intent. If someone gives someone their Divine Breath with the intent of healing them, it will heal them. But I argue that if you gave a Divine Breath to someone with the intent of adding your Divine Breath to theirs, it would do just that. Therefore, if you awaken a sword with a Divine Breath, it should work just fine. Do you have quotes? I don't remember any information on the transferring of Divine Breaths. I don't see why it should be any different from regular Breath. 2. If what I said above was true, then someone can hold more than one Divine Breath. Or if it isn't, they could hold it in an object on their person, as long as they're ok with it gaining sentience. Therefore, someone could use one of their Divine Breaths to awaken a sword, and use the other one to keep living. Again, do you have a quote on who Awakened Nightblood? Regular Breaths just don't consume Investiture. We haven't seen that happen. Why would it be different with Nightblood. It just makes a lot of sense to me. Am I crazy or do I just need a reread?

Well it just makes sense. Divine Breaths consume Investiture, but if someone has an insane amount of Breaths as you said, they don't consume themselves. Also, Nightblood is sentient. I know it's not 100% confirmed but it seems sound to me. I just kind of took it as fact. Although, for Nightblood to be powerful enough to consume Divine Breaths (Vasher says he would die after too long holding him), then it's possible that Nightblood is something even more powerful than just that. Honorblades consume Investiture the same way, that's why Szeth can't hold stormlight very well. Nightblood would fit in the same category to me.

Nightblood was actually awakened with a Divine Breath. They consume Inestiture like the Honorblades to. But I haven't seen any reason to believe that Hemalurgy consumes Investiture in the same way, or why that would be a danger when the Honorbldes or Divine Breaths aren't.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
Khyrindor replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think that's because that, while you have that much Breath, you aren't always doing something with it. When Mistborn burn their metals, it is immediately going to a purpose. Rashek was able to cheat that with a magic hack, but it didn't have to do with constantly holding Investiture. What about the Heralds? They don't seem to age. Radiants? He haven't seen any incredibly old ones that we know of, but Stormlight is a lot like Breath, perhaps holding it constantly prevents you from aging. If you had enough maybe. -

Theory: Stormfather is both a sliver and a splinter
Khyrindor replied to 50Metals's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ah, The Almighty was never a Herald. The Rosharan people deified the Heralds, but they weren't Slivers, because they never held the Shard of Honor or had enough of his Investiture to Ascend. Their swords would be classified as splinters. The Almighty himself is a Cognitive Shadow of Tanavast, who, if he were still alive somewhere (WoB says its possible, if I remember correctly) would be a Sliver. I suppose you could call him a Splinter too, since he is likely part of Honor's Investiture like the spren. But Slivers are people like Vin and Rashek who held all of a Shard's power. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Khyrindor replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you get a new bearded dragon, and your first thought is, "Now what Sanderson character can we name him after?" Settled on Hoid, of course. Though Frost was another thought, and probably more appropriate. Edit: Would Topaz be a better name? Still naming him after Hoid, but I think its cooler, and fits his rusty yellow colour.
