Quick Fix Game 16: The Shades of Threnody
Sart replied to RippleGylf's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Vote tally: Zas (0): Joe[1] Bard (0): Lopen[1] Conq (2): Bard[1], Bard[3], Lopen[3] Elodin (0): Joe[2] Bugsy (1): Zas[1] Cloud (0): Bard[2] McKeedee (1): Joe[3], Sart[1] Amanuesis (1): Joe[4] SilverDragon (0): Lopen[2] As of right now Conq is being lynched, but no one seems to be talking about it. That always strikes me as suspicious. While discussion and planning is very important, the lynch is just as important. Given that no one is talking about Conq, that strikes me as a bit suspicious. He has been active in the Long Game, but hasn't posted here. That's the only evidence we have right now. It's a pretty flimsy case, especially considering others have viewed the thread and haven't posted. I'd like to hear more from McKeedee. How exactly was your test of Joe supposed to work?- 346 replies

Quick Fix Game 16: The Shades of Threnody
Sart replied to RippleGylf's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright, we only have 3 items in this game, and none of them let us scan a player. That's a problem. We don't have anything to rely on except our own intuition. I've never been very good at that. However, I am good at making plans. So... what do we have to work with? A knife: It's a vigilante kill. It's dangerous if it falls into the hands of the wrong person. However, I don't think that the Eliminators would start with one. They can get one if the knife isn't used before its holder dies. So, knives should be used as soon as possible. Once you have a target, don't hesitate to strike. It's risky, but it's the best option we have. Silver powder: This is fairly useless in a Villager's hand, but deadly in a Traitor's one. It's possible to use it as a way of role-claiming, but there's no way to confirm if that person is actually telling the truth. Intoxicant: In the immortal words of Wayne, let's get the town drunk. At first glance, this appears to be the weakest item. A vote shift is nice, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't worth much. However, we can use it in a similar way to the Mayor's position. Every cycle, give the booze to someone else. We can create a chain of who received what. If an opportunistic Eliminator doesn't ditch the bottle, we'll have someone who is immediately suspicious. I know it creates an IKYK, but we need someway to generate leads. GM: Do players know who has give them an item, or is it anonymous?- 346 replies

I looked over the rules again, and I have a lot of questions about the Ta'veren. Do people know when they're being controlled by the Ta'veren? What happens if a Ta'veren controls a Chaneller? What happens if they control the Forsaken? What happens if Padan Fain is controlled? Are Thief-Takers and White Cloaks affected by Ta'veren? If you're vanilla, do the Ta'veren control your dragon fang? This role could be extremely dangerous, so I don't want anything left to chance. In regards to Day 1 lynches, it's clear that I beat a dead horse. Sorry. I wanted something that would start discussion, so I chose a traditional topic. It has kick-started discussion, but I see where Wilson is coming from. The positions were pretty dead-set on the matter. Therefore, we should focus on other aspects of the game. Speaking of other aspects of the game, let's talk about the mayor. In regards to the mayor, I doubt Darkfriends would actually want to be the mayor. It thrusts them into the spotlight, and it makes every action they do more suspicious. Plus, it's only one more vote, which isn't that powerful in the long run. My strategy this game is to use the mayor position as a random hot seat. If a darkfriend or padan fain is elected mayor, they're more likely to panic, and start contradicting themselves. That's why I proposed a random system for the mayor position. It allows everyone an equal chance at the hot seat, which allows us to find Eliminators that are trying to go under the radar. With that being said, Stawman, why are you just voting for the popular choice? Just like a bandwagon on the lynch vote, a bandwagon on the mayor vote doesn't help us either. At least give some reasoning for your vote. Since I'm voting for him, I have to retract my vote for Rubik. I don't like taking a poke vote off before the person responds, but I feel like knowing Strawman's reasoning is a little more pressing.
-
I should be going to bed, but I want to address Wilson's points. First off, when was the last time we actually lynched an eliminator on Day 1? I was curious so I skimmed through some of the previous games. I got as far as QF13, but not once did we successfully lynch an eliminator. That's why I'm against this type of lynching. We don't have enough to go on, so we start chasing our own tails. We start seeing suspicious words that weren't intentional. The eliminators fuel this paranoia, pointing out 'evidence' that we might have missed. It generally leads to a mis-lynch, which is not a good thing. I understand that Day 1 is needed for discussion. I also understand that not having the threat of lynch could slow discussion. However, there are other ways to start discussions. For instance, you can talk about not having a day 1 lynch. I know the subject's been done to death. I was curious whether our opinions about it had changed. It hasn't. Regardless, this topic has started discussion. I didn't expect that discussion would make you vote for me. I understand why you did, and I think you raised some good points. But please, don't say that the discussion was bad. Any discussion is good discussion. However, you want me to focus on game specific mechanics, which are definitely important. The most pressing issue is electing a Mayor. A mayor can be a great asset for the town. It's the only vote manipulation in the entire game. Since there should be more good players than bad, I think we should elect a random mayor each cycle. That way, the town is more likely to have someone powerful on the good guy team, and Padan Fain can't corrupt them for free vote manipulation. If we all use a random number generator, we should be able to find a good candidate. I used one right now and ironically, it landed on Jak. I guess his dream is coming true.
-
It's good to be back in the swing of things. This is probably a dead horse, but we should discuss the pros and cons of a day one lynch. Pros: Potentially killing an eliminator. Generating useful discussion. Cons: Investigative roles haven't had a chance to act yet. Possibility of lynching a villager. In my opinion, a day one lynch is fairly random. However, we still need to put votes out. Without them, we practically waste a day that could have been productive. The ideal day one is a day with lots of discussion, but in the end, no one is lynched. A tie is the best result. This puts several suspicious people into the spotlight for viewers to invest, and it doesn't lead to a villager death. With that out of the way, I might as well do a poke vote to say hi to the new players. RubiksCube, what do you think about day one lynches?

I looked back at my revised Eliminating Elysium game, and I think I strayed a little from the concept with all of the stuff about missiles and launch codes. It was interesting, but way too problematic to balance properly, plus it was a bit too complex for a quick-fix game. So... Take 3 Eliminating Elysium First off, there are massive spoilers for Defending Elysium, a short story Brandon wrote, in this game. Thankfully, the story is free to read on Brandon's website. Here's a link to it. Now then, on to the game itself. Chaos has erupted in the Outer Platforms after it has been revealed that rogue aliens have been impersonating humans in an attempt to gain superior weaponry. Unfortunately for the visitors to Jupiter Platform 19, their missile station has just been infiltrated. The bunker has been cut off from the outside. If the aliens gain control of the missiles, who knows what chaos they might cause. Cytonics: The ability to sense other minds is present in all intelligent lifeforms. During the night cycle, a player can protect himself from the actions of another player. If that player tries to use an action on the protected party, it will not happen, and the other player will be immediately killed. For example, Tom (A normal Human) sends in his night action to protect himself from Steve. Steve tries to investigate Tom during the night. It will backfire hilariously, and Tom will kill Steve instead. Oops. Roles: Politician: You were touring the facility when everything went crazy. No one at the facility particularly likes you, so you automatically have one vote assigned to you. They still respect your authority though, so your vote will count double. Soldier: You won't go down without a fight. Well, as long as the aliens don't kill you with their mind. If you are lynched, and the person you guarded against voted for you, then you will automatically shoot that player. Communications Officer: You are using your mind to let the others talk telepathically. As long as you are alive, players can form PMs between themselves. Because you're so focused on doing this, you are unable to use any Cytonics. Medic: You've figured out how to spot Cytonic kills before they happen. Instead of using Cytonics, you can protect another player from an attack. Cyto Adept: You're a quick learner, and have figured out how to guard against multiple people. You can target two players with your Cytonic powers. UIB Agent: You suspected that the Phone Company had infiltrated the base. You didn't expect to find aliens here too. Instead of using Cytonics, you can target one player during the night to learn that player's role. Phone Company Operator: You realized that this was a prime target for the aliens, and teleported here as fast as possible. You can target two players with your Cytonic powers. Furthermore, instead of using Cytonics, you can kill a target player. Alien: You swapped minds with a human, and now look just like one of them. You have a Google Doc to conspire in, and you have a group kill. I think this is a lot more balanced, while focusing a lot more on the main system of Cytonics. Let me know what you think.

Summer vacation is officially here, which means I can finally revise this old game concept. Also, I'd like to apologize to the players of the last game I was in. Classes made me too busy participate, and I forgot about the game I was in. Sorry. Anyways, back to the concept at hand. Eliminating Elysium First off, there are massive spoilers for Defending Elysium, a short story Brandon wrote, in this game. Thankfully, the story is free to read on Brandon's website. Here's a link to it. Now then, on to the game itself. Spoiler Chaos has erupted in the Outer Platforms after it has been revealed that rogue aliens have been impersonating humans in an attempt to gain superior weaponry. Unfortunately for the visitors to Jupiter Platform 19, their missile station has just been infiltrated. The bunker has been cut off from the outside. If the aliens gain control of the missiles, who knows what chaos they might cause. Missiles: The aliens need weapons to wage war on their oppressive regimes. Unfortunately for the humans, atomic missiles have been stored in this facility. To launch one, the aliens need two things: a technician to guide the warhead to its destination, and the access code that arms that particular missile. Each technician has the access code to a single missile to start out with. These codes can be given away to someone else during the night. If a technician is killed during the night, their killer takes the access code. If they are lynched, one of the people who voted for them gets it. Position: Each player will receive a different position before the game starts. Each players' position is public knowledge. Any faction can have any role. Here are the roles. Technician: You're one of the few people that actually know how to launch the rocket. As long as you have the Launch Codes for a missile, and the town votes for you to launch you can fire that missile to a location of your choice. One technician is guaranteed to be an Alien. General: You are in charge of this facility, and you will be respected. Your vote counts double. However, no one actually likes you that much. Any votes from Mechanics and Technicians against you are doubled as well. Soldier: You were assigned to protect the facility. You failed in that duty, but it left you with an advantage. You still have your gun. If you are lynched, and you guarded against one of the people voting for you, you will kill that person as you die. Mechanic: You're in charge of maintaining this facility in the middle of nowhere. You know a way to disarm the rockets; unfortunately, it involves blowing them up. When you are lynched, you can activate the self-destruct sequence, destroying a rocket of your choice. Politician: You were touring the facility when everything went crazy. You automatically have 1 vote assigned to you, since no one really trusts you. Oops. Roles: Roles are assigned normally, and are revealed after death. Innocent Bystander: You don't have any special powers aside from your role. UIB Agent: Instead of using Cytonics, you can target one player during the night to learn that player's role. Cyto Adept: You can target two players with your Cytonic powers. Phone Company Operator: You can target two players with your Cytonic powers. Furthermore, instead of using Cytonics, you can kill a target player. Alien: You swapped minds with a human, and now look just like one of them. You have a Google Doc to conspire in, and you have a group kill. Thief: You're in the employ of one of Earth's mega-corporations. They will pay top dollar if you can make it out with some of the missile codes. Instead of using Cytonics, you can target a player to steal any launch codes they are carrying. Win Conditions: Humans: Destroy all missiles by either launching them into the sun, or by having Mechanics blow them up. Aliens: Fire a missile at the Alien Homeworld, or outnumber the humans to force them to do it for you. Thief: Kill all the aliens, then escape with a working launch code. I'd be interested in running this as a Quick Fix Game. Feel free to give me suggestions about the game.

What you're proposing is a height traversal of the command tree. It's good in theory, but it depends on how active everyone else is. In addition, the Blood Tyrants have already lost their commander, and we don't know where Silverblade falls on the command tree so it might not work for more than one team. I think we should have an addendum. If you don't get a PM by night-time, you should be able to make a PM on your own. Its better to have a PM with a person on another team than to not have a PM at all.

Aphrodisiac. That word sent shivers down his spine. How could one little pill make all of his worries go away? He didn't have to focus on anything in particular. He could just sleep. Dream a little dream. Float through the world. He was running low though. His supply had been uneven from the start. It had only gotten worse. Still he had one left though. He ate it quickly. The high took a while, so it was better to stay prepared. And if they happened to overlap, well, he would enjoy the sudden luxury. Henry smiled. Things were looking up. The town was in shambles, but he didn't care. He had this last bit of luxury left. It was enough. Sorry about not coming on sooner... I'm starting to make a habit out of that. Anyways, please don't kill me while I'm high. It would be a rude wake-up call.

Well, you know what they say; if you give a man enough rope, he'll hang himself on it. I was worried that you might have been someone suspicious of Strawman. The likely candidates were Steward, Acolyte, and Ranger. If you had claimed Steward, you would have to claim Stickman's role, and we might have spared you today to see the results tomorrow. The fact that Stickman role claimed in code would have made things even more gray. I discounted the possibility of Ranger, since we already have one dead, and I'm another one. That left the possibility of Acolyte, which is what you're claiming. However, that doesn't make any sense. I was fully healed last night. I had to double check the rules to realize what that meant. It means that at least 2 acolytes targeted me last night. I highly doubt we have 3 Acolytes Alvron. There's just not that much they can heal. Even if you're an acolyte, we'll still have two left. While it is true that you are a Veteran player, that doesn't mean you'll be scanned very often. In this game, you've barely done anything, so you would be a good killer for the Eliminators. You were hoping to slide under the radar. However, I've realized that's what Eliminators do a lot of the time, especially those killing people. That's why I looked at you, and that's why I believe you're a Traitor.

Sigh. Why is there always a 3rd cycle slump? Only Mailliw has voted today, so I'm going to be killed if I don't do something. Alvron I'm a ranger, and I caught him visiting Strawman last night. I called him out in thread, hoping he would put a vote on someone. I included Elbereth to make him less suspicious (but seriously I would like her to actually vote) Unfortunately, he has remained pointedly neutral. I would have liked for him to implicate someone falsely before revealing, but we don't have time for that. Any last words Alv?

Mailliw, when did I try to sway people to voting for you? My vote on you was the last post I made Cycle 2. Honestly, I find it very strange that Strawman was the one killed. He was under a great amount of suspicion, plus he had Greyscale. I don't think the Eliminators would waste their Greyscale usage on someone they were going to kill next cycle, so I suspect that they weren't the ones to poison him. If that's true, then we have another Stoneman alive. In my analysis I noticed that STINK was remarkably quiet. He rhymed once in thread, then voted for Kipper because he wouldn't be the first vote anymore. No wonder the Shadowbinder killed him. In other news, I would like to hear more from Alvron and Elbereth. They have been flying under the radar by not casting a vote, but they've been active enough to write somewhat lengthy posts. I can understand why the new players would be hesitant to vote, but it doesn't excuse you two.

Okay, so there are several things to point out from the results: Kipper is (probably) not a Traitor: STINK, a Traitor, voted for him, so that's a huge point in his favor. Kipper (probably) lied about his PM with Mark: Mark claimed that he was a "Skindancer" (the actual name of the role is Skinchanger); however, Mark was actually a Ranger. Those two facts point to something weird going on behind the scenes. It could be a fake out by the Eliminators, or it could just be that Mark lied to Kipper to get his role. I'm going to comb through the thread again to see who STINK was targeting, but I felt like I needed to post these facts first.
