the most useless uses for useful powers
Aether replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
And we have another candidate for the "people to avoid in dark alleys" list. -
That is a common bug. It always registers unless it specifically says it didn't (for example because you've used up your quota). Just update the page and you'll see that it has counted your up-vote.

Sell, because he already kind of did with the Well of Ascension. Mistborn will be made into a film series, but not by the company currently holding the rights.

Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread
Aether replied to Aether's topic in General Discussion
We have our first South American! Done with the other other Nationality Thread, so the easy part of the List is pretty much done. I'm going to update it with more information from this Thread and by scouring the Introduction Board, but that part of the work will be slow. For now, bask in the glory of my beautifully organized List! -
Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread
Aether replied to Aether's topic in General Discussion
Update: Done with the first of the other nationality Threads. Moving on to the next one. I've noticed some interesting developments: Surprise! USA is over-represented. Surprisingly few Brits so far. Not really that many Europeans in general, thus far. We have our two first Indians. Yay! (I some are mentioned in this Thread, but I have only so far added the people who've posted themselves). Australia is thus far the largest non-American group. No Africans yet. Antarctica surprisingly empty.. -
There is lord Claincy Ffnord's meticulous and obsessive tracking of the reputation levels. I might have forgotten to mention that the work he has put in this List gives him the rank of List Knight and earns him a place on my List of Important Lists in my Signature.

I was asked in a PM why I though Lopen only just now gained the ability to draw upon Stormlight, when other Bridgemen such as Skar and Teft had been using it (unconsciously) for over a month at this point. Copy/pasting my answer here as it is relevant to the discussion:

Thanks! That particular List isn't mine, but Tempus'. He asked me to add it to my Signature to help spread the word. I've poked him about it, so you'll get your due credit =) Going to add you now. The work is going somewhat slowly as I am technically still on a hiatus for the exams, but I should have most of the active Sharders there within a few weeks. EDIT: Slightly edited my Signature to better show who's Lists are whose.

Sell. Toilet paper as an industry has already existed for several hundred years on our world, so I would assume it already exists on Scadrial. [outofgame]Btw, I think it is a lot more fun when we explain why we buy or sell something.[/outofgame] Wayne will get a girlfriend in the Shadows of Self.

I don't know what I am anymore. I'm... truthless! EDIT: I never really noticed that I am now a Stone Shaman. Not only was my joke bad (I mean, really bad), it also didn't really make sense.

This made me briefly consider that the Squire abilities could possibly be limited by distance from their Radiant. If they could only use their abilities when close to the Radiant in question, assuming that the latter would be able to break the bond, there wouldn't be any danger of Squires going renegade. However, Lopen is able to draw upon Stormlight at a time when Kaladin is most likely at Urithiru, around half-a-continent away, so possible abuse of the powers would have to be countered in some other way. Aleksiel's idea seems likely, though there is too little information on this to say for sure.

There is also the List in my Signature, complete with sources and references. I try to keep it up to date with new books and WoBs. I've copy/pasted it here, though be warned, this particular post will not be updated, so follow the link for the most up-to-date information: "Just to provide further elaboration on the matter (though honestly mostly just as an excuse to make another List), the eight known Shardworlds are: Sel, the planet of Elantris and the Emperor's Soul. Shards: the shattered Devotion and Dominion Scadrial, the planet of the Mistborn trilogies and the Alloy of Law series. Shards: Previously Preservation and Ruin, now Harmony. Nalthis, the planet of Warbreaker. Shard: Endowment. Roshar, the planet of the Stormlight Archive series. Shards: Cultivation and the shattered Honour. Braise, the home planet of Odium in also located in the Greater Roshar System. Shard: Odium (duh!) Ashyn, a planet in the Greater Roshar Solar System and the planet of the unpublished Silence Divine. No Shard1. Taldain, the planet of the unpublished White Sand trilogy. Shard(s): the unknown shard of Bavadin. It has been confirmed that this is the only Shard2 there. Yolen, the (presumed) origin planet of Adonalsium and humanity itself, and the place of the unpublished Dragonsteel and the Liar of Partinel. (Current) Shard(s): unknown. Lesser Shardworlds: Threnody3, the planet of Shadows for Silence in the Forest of Hell. Shard(s): No Shards4, though perhaps a powerful splinter or something to the effect. First of the Sun5, the planet of the unpublished short-story Sixth of the Dusk. Shard(s): Unknown, but likely just a splinter."

Again, I ask myself if Brandon has actually considered things like this. With proper research, you should be able to break the system and make AonDor into one of the most powerful systems in the Cosmere.
-
Good catch! However, this has already been discussed on several Threads. A quick search for "worldhopping" gave the following ones, in case you're interested: Poolhopping, The nature of moving through Shadesmar, World Hopping and Sel.

I don't think Squiredom inherently makes it more likely to become a KR. There are aspects of it, though, which would, such as learning of the Ideals and philosophy of the Order, and being influenced by the very kind of personality traits that attract Nahel Spren in the first place.

Nice! And at least we've isolated the problem to your Chrome browser. I'm not an expert, but I suggest looking into your cookie preferences. Personally, I prefer the chocolate chip ones.
-
Now that Lopen has the ability to draw on Stormlight, buy. Horneaters in general have a high resistance to alcohol because of Investiture shenanigans.

What about ""offspring of Honour"?

Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread
Aether replied to Aether's topic in General Discussion
Just a quick question to any members of the United Kingdom: Do you guys prefer to be lumped together, or should I make a separate category for England, Scotland, Wales and North-Ireland? -
It should work on Chrome, but you should still try another browser, such as Opera or Firefox. While you might not want make a permanent switch, it'll at least help isolate the problem to either your Chrome preferences or your computer/internet in general.
-
What browser are you using? Or are you on a phone?
-
You can also make unfinished Aons (on some kind of surface) with really intricate and powerful effects, which you activate only when you need them in battle.
-
It should also be noted that, while AonDor is extremely flexible and very powerful, it is also intricate and slow. When it comes to combat efficiency, unless they had time to prepare, I think an Elantrian would be easy prey to an Allomancer and most Knight Radiants.

Modern nations usually have a maximum limit on how far back you can be punished. This does depend on the crime in question, as per P4thf1nd3r's post. Rape, molestation and Human Rights issues can usually be pursued pretty far back in time, but even murder charges usually have an expiration date.
