Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread
Aether replied to Aether's topic in General Discussion
Welcome! And finally a Brit I can ask directly! Wyrmhero, would you prefer to have separate categories for England, Wales, Scotland and North Ireland, or can I just jumble you all together under United Kingdom as I am currently doing? -
I am not sure where I stand on this myself. I get the feeling that the "Skybreakers" are mostly a creation of Nale. While he might have just hijacked an existing entity, I think it plausible that... Actually, I am changing my mind as I am writing this. I find it highly doubtful that there would not have been any loyalists amongst the other Orders at all, but as others have argued, the nature of the Skybreakers would likely have made the entire Order stay true. The group could have then easily absorbed any other stragglers from the other Orders.

Because of the legend of the Gordian Knot. I made a joke earlier about your knotted tongue and suggested Alexander's method of untying it (chopping it up with a sword, though the accounts differ). It was a somewhat esoteric reference, I suppose, but it was prophesied that whomever untied it would be destined to rule over all of Asia, which Alexander the Great did (almost, somewhat). -
That passage can be interpreted both ways. Either an entire Order stayed true, or only one in ten Radiants in general did.

How would this even work? I thought Duralumin/Nicrosil made you use up your metal(s) in a single burst. How does having a second Nicroburst in the picture amplify that (single) burst of Allomantic power?
-
He specifically said he was doing it for others to gleam his reactions to other WoT fans. And while he did post it where "spoilers could leak in", he also asked us to hold back. While you didn't give up any plot significant spoilers, I still think you stepped over the line, especially concerning your comments about Rand's parentage and Mat's destiny. I am not really trying to pick a fight here, but there is a difference between balancing the spoiler-line by commenting on his predictions as Argent did (which I already felt was going over the line) and blatantly giving the answers away.
-
Honestly, this is pretty heavily into the spoiler category. I would spoiler tag it (second thoughts, I'm going to do that for the quote), though preferably not say it at all. Let EMTrevor read and discover things on his own and regale us with his amusingly correct/incorrect guesses.

I never thought of this, but sure, I can do this. Might take a week or two before I'll get it up and running, but I should be able to use the Google Maps Engine (as suggested by Quitecontrary) to make an interactive map. I won't represent our current location precisely (obviously), as I'll just randomly place it somewhere around the area people have said they're from. Might be amusing to see how far I'm off in some cases. -
I was merely pointing out that you are balancing on the very edge of that spoiler line. Good luck though, EMTrevor, in figuring out exactly what is what.

Hoid is using his bead of Lerasium as a Metalmind
Aether replied to Kadrok's topic in Cosmere Discussion
But weren't there some footsteps in the dust on the inside of the chamber? I might have to reread the passage. -
We know that the Knights Radiant get their Blades at different levels (Oaths), so it sounds plausible that the same might be true for the eye colour. Another possibility is that the eyes change when they fully embrace their identity as a Knight Radiant (as well as what that represents), as Kaladin does towards the end of Words of Radiance. Dalinar is only at his very first Ideal (at a time when Kaladin still had his pre-radiancy eyes), and I think we can make a good case for Shallan still not having grown comfortable with her Knighthood. Also, we have no idea how far along Jasnah is.

On a completely unrelated note, how would copper compounding even work?

I seem to remember that there were some footprints as well that would have belonged to Hoid. -
It is amazing how many of your theories are right, and how many are ridiculously way, way off. Up-votes for great insight into a the mind of a first time WoT reader. And Argent, shush! You're dangerously close to actively spoiling things.

The God King of Asia! Beware Asian Sharders! (All ten of you, by my current count) -
Then I shall do my utmost to contain myself. And let the darkness seeping from my inner fury cloak you and our allies.
-
O_o! That is actually a very good question! Depending on how Sylphrena is "linked" to his Spiritweb, though. It could be that it is impossible to Hemalurgically steal something from him without affecting the bond.

Shall I make pursuit, oh great Mistress of the Cutlery? The products of my dark batter shall fill his stomach with fatally delicious Waffles.

There is always Alexander's solution to the Gordian knot. Thanks! Adding her now. EDIT: Actually, unless she posts here herself, she doesn't qualify. I tend to avoid the Introduction pages until they've been active for some time. There are a lot of people just passing through. But thanks anyway. Greetings! Adding you as well. And Storms, the US is cluttering up! -
Looking Inside the New Trade Paperback of Mistborn
Aether commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
He never appeared in-world (we think), but he commented on the map itself much in the same way as on this one. -
Maybe he intended for him to compound Atium? Marsh was older than Kelsier, if I remember correctly, and past his prime. Letting him age backwards a bit might have amplified all his other Allomantic and Feruchemical powers by giving him the strength and vigour of youth.
-
I appreciate the attention I'm currently getting - as well as the straight up bribes I'm being offered - but in the end, I shall arise as a Dark Lord of Waffles. The batter is beckoning me, and I am powerless against its tenebrous allure. If the Wafflesworn will have me, then I shall join their ranks.
-
I believe Brandon has specifically stated that he does not want to make a prequel. Though we will get to know more about the Five and the Manywar in Nightblood.
