  1. Greetings! Well, the rules were supposed to be "either or", so you qualify by simply posting here. The thirty post rule is mostly to just sift out the around thousand dormant users who've only ever made a few posts and then never returned. So welcome to my List!
  2. I shall await a similar response from the Featherblades and the Observers, but I must admit that I already feel the batter call.
  3. I am considering of joining the ranks of the Wafflesworn. Are there any particular criteria for signing up? Fair warning though, I'm a practitioner of the dark side of the batter.
  4. I am entirely too proud of being somewhat mocked in this way. Also, seems I am being recruited into the Wafflesworn. Anyone care to try to sway me in another direction?
  5. This looks tempting. And as I've already stated on several different Threads, I like Waffles. Is there a Thread I could read, or a PM group I could join?
  6. I like Waffles. I think we shall both find this to be a pleasant accord.
  7. As long as the needle stays in, I would assume so, yes. Remove it and lose the ability, though.
  8. FINAL EDIT: This post has been modified by an admin. Swearing is against the rules of this forum. Just because a filter is in place isn't an excuse to break those rules.
  9. All hail Tempus! Anyway, what happens when I change my name back?
  10. Well, that would certainly force Brandon to take some interesting literary turns. Yay for G. R. R. Martinifying Sanderson!
  11. Which is why I think it is unlikely to include an Order's traits to any large extent. Kaladin's squires seems to be the odd case out, as they're all bodyguards, but Shallan's likely Squires (Vatah, Gaz, etc.) do not really fit at all with her primary trait. I guess you could argue that Honesty is something Gaz have had to learn, and Yalb is certainly creative in his own way. but I cannot see any particular pattern to it (no pun intended).
  12. I agree that he probably should not have spoken in that particular meeting, but I would argue that that would be the exception rather than the rule. In most of the House Kholin's meetings, Kaladin's opinion as basically a commander and captain of the House guard would be relevant to the discussion. And yes, he is insubordinate, but there would be more room for light socializing with the Kholins for the captain of the guard than for the rest of Bridge Four. He is training all of the other bodyguards to be much more discrete, but permits himself to get a bit closer to them when he himself is on duty. It would be fitting to do so, as knowing his employers lets him perform his and his subordinates' duties better, but Kaladin does highly abuse this.
  13. I would argue that - even if the displaying an Order's attribute(s) counts, which I do not think is the case - having a close bond to their Radiant is what lets them achieve Squiredom.
  14. He pretty clearly says that he thought it (read: the screaming) were all in his head when confronted about it by Dalinar at the very end of the book. Feather would probably write a much longer post about it, but he does hear the screaming (he is erratic and disturbed when bonding it, but calms down when finally able to dismiss it; he grimaces when he first touches it; he grimaces when summoning it during the Narack battle (Shallan even comments on it)). The screaming is likely as strong for Renarin as it was for Kaladin, but he is (or at least has been) sick, and he knows how others view him. He likely wasn't all that surprised that he first heard it, and he figured that it was all just something happening in his own head.
  15. I want to point out that Kaladin himself is no mere bodyguard, but the commander of an entire legion of spearmen-in-training. While he has certainly shown insubordination, it is only natural for his position to be able to voice his insight and opinion - especially on subjects directly and indirectly pertaining to his duties. ... Or at least it would have been, had he not been a darkeyes.
  16. There is a small but important difference between being a protector by duty and having a protecting personality. Dalinar, Shallan, Adolin, everyone is protecting someone at some point, What matters are their core personality traits. For Kaladin, it's clearly Protecting (and somewhat less clear, Leading), as he cannot stand letting people he cares about die at all (or even risk their lives too frivolously). While his Squires clearly takes part in protective duties, I would not say any of them (from what we know so far) displays "Protecting" as a primary attribute or personality trait.
  17. What he said. I do agree. As another fellow atheist, I don't hold any belief in the afterlife myself (and I do think there are enough evidence to discard most notions of it completely), but most religious mythology still provide an interesting look into the human psyche. In Brandon's case, nothing he's done so far comes off as any sort of propaganda. I think he is doing more what he says he is doing: He's taking inspiration from a number of different cultures and religions and uses them to create his own mythos. He might rely heavily on Judeo-Chrisitan mythology in some aspects, but he is mostly using it to do his own thing.
  18. If someone were actually able to do that. Would he then regrow a new skeleton? One without the Adamantium? Or would he die?
  19. It is unclear because he specifically says that "he's been in Roshar 12 years our time". He should have said that "he has been in the book for twelve years" or something.
  20. I do not think someone's "attributes" have anything at all to do with their potential for Squiredom. Just look at Bridge Four - they're far from a homogeneous group of people, yet they are all likely to become Squires. And of the ones who has definitely shown signs of Squiredom - Teft, Skar and Lopen (plus two unnamed Bridgmen) - none of them really fit well with Protecting/Leading. Given, we don't know them that well, but off the top of my head I'd place Lopen more into the Stonewardens (Dependable/Resourceful), Skar into the Dustbringers (Brave/Obedient) and Teft into the Elsecallers (Wise/Careful).
  21. Off the table? Well, his Radiancy would make Squire-abilities redundant at best.
  22. Oh a definite buy for that first part (though he might not realise so at first), and a tentative buy for the second one. While the scene you're suggesting is hilarious, I find it ever so slightly unlikely. Elhokar will not become a Radiant, but will end up becoming a good (though not great) king.
  23. Not at all. Though Awesomeness beat me to my amazing response at this: Also, there is in reality no dark or light side, only the batter.
  24. Brandon usually word his answers better. It is by no means clear that he means that Vasher has been in the books for twelve years and not that he has stayed on Roshar for twelve years.
