    Glad to hear you're feeling better! The priesthood is indeed legit. But, uh, if those symptoms show up again, get thee to a doctor posthaste. Maybe do so anyways. That sounds like it could be something serious.

    It's got to have been at least ten years, and the phrase "overrode the overridden override" still lives in my head rent-free. I can't even remember what the name of the story it's from, just that it's by Diana Wynne Jones.

    Music! "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me," after all. As far as hymns go, I love 'em all, but there's a handful that really resonate with me. Chief among them are "How Firm a Foundation" and "It Is Well With My Soul". Also, I want "Pilgrim Song" sung at my funeral. As far as other music, it's no exaggeration to say that Collective Soul speaks to my...soul. (Heyyy.) And lately I've found that Yorushika's music--especially suis' voice--has the same effect. I don't understand a word, but that's hardly the point. There are other things I could name, too: My family. My church. My friends. Books, some shows. At the heart of it all, though, you'll find music there alongside it. Oh, but don't forget sleep! And frightening amounts of caffeine. Those are important too.

    April is one of my favorite months. Don't get me wrong, I love March, but to me April strikes the perfect balance of warm spring days and windy, stormy ones.

    Ogden Nash has always been one of my favorite poets. His silly animal poems are some of the first I ever learned; I don't doubt they were an early contributor to my sense of whimsy. 

    Put the two together, and what do you get? One of my favorite poems! I have a thing for tsunderes, sue me

    Pen is a Franklin-Christoph 31 inked with Kyo-no-Oto Moegiiro. Please forgive the show-through; the paper is pretty thin, so I try not to do things on the reverse side, but the notebook is getting full so that's harder to do.

    Honestly, screw politics or money. The feeling of power you get sitting in front of a piano is unmatched.

      As someone who isn't very good at playing the piano but took lessons for like eight years and knows a whole bunch of people who are incredible pianists.....imma hafta take your word for it on this one.

      Oh, to be clear, I barely play the piano myself. But whenever I can get a song I'm working on right, it more than makes up for all the frustration that learning it caused.

      There's also the secondhand aspect. Watching somebody very talented is spiritually fulfilling in its own right.

    Elder Uchtdorf gives me life. For the past few years, I've very rarely felt there was a talk that missed. They've been knocking it out of the park.

    Goodness, this Sunday Morning session was really what I needed. I love conference; it's a genuine privilege to get to hear from everyone, especially President Nelson. Also, I really hope "It Is Well With My Soul" is in the new hymnal.

    So there's a show called Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. I initially wrote it off as "could be fun, but probably just puerile, smutty nonsense."

    It's, uh, not. It is so not. It's actually heavy and existential and really, really good.

     

    Though I admit Mai is pretty cute.

Since the pen (Schon DSGN full-sized) and the ink (Birmingham Snowflake) are both from Pennsylvania, I thought I'd also write something from the Keystone State (Louisa May Alcott was born in Germantown). I asked my sister what her favorite parts from Little Women were and she provided the following passage:

    Finally, a song I just heard today: There You Are, by Pogo. I've liked Pogo's work for a while (thanks, Mistrunner!) but it's only recently I've been going through his back catalog, as opposed to just cycling through the three or four I really liked. Turns out, he's got some other great stuff too, who'd'a thunk?

    Well, as I recall, isn't "Latter-day Saint" an acceptable way to refer to a member? They've certainly used it in Conference the last couple years. It's only when that becomes a substitute for the name of the Church itself (e.g. "the Church of the Latter-day Saints") that it's a problem.

    Stopped by a local used bookstore and scored the following: a Japanese pocket edition of my church's hymnal, poetry of Robert Frost and Bayard Taylor, and a YA novel I got on a whim called Not Now, Not Ever. The Taylor book is at least 120 years old, too, and in surprisingly good condition for it! I'm quite pleased.

    So, I mentioned a while back that I'd be experimenting with reducing my internet usage. I have, and it's gone reasonably well, but I think I need to go a step further.

    After today, I'm going to step away from the Internet as a whole for a while. As a consequence, naturally, I'm going to be online here a lot less. I'll still check in every once in a while--I'm thinking of taking the weekend as a cheat day, or something like that. I also may or may not continue being active on Discord. I'm certainly not going away forever! I love you all too much for that. But my brain's cooked, and I need to take a break.

    More thoughts to follow, if this works.

    Oh, I'd be more than mildly annoyed, depending on the pen. Hope you can get it resolved soon! I am soooo happy with it, more than I thought I'd be. I mentioned offhandedly that it was one I'd wanted while we were browsing the local stationery shop, so apparently Santa was paying attention!

    Well, Tomoe would help. But really, they call it Medium for a reason. And there's often variation even within the same size. A wider F or smaller M might not be the pop-fest that a Broad would provide, but will still give plenty of ink flow for shading and shimmer. Coated papers like Tomoe or Rhodia really would help, though.
