  1. I'd say the best idea is for all of the Lighteyes to use their vote, or for all of you to decide in the thread who to vote for with it. Unless there are two Lighteye Spies in the same pair, they won't be able to get control of the vote as long as the Good Lighteyes use the Lighteye vote, even if it's not coordinated. It will be nothing more than chance if Lighteyes vote for the same person separately, and that would be as likely to be influenced by the Good Lighteyes as the Evil ones. If you want it to be very unlikely for the Spies to manipulate the vote, then either we should make a large barrier in public votes or we can try to get all of the Lighteyes to vote together. (Unless there's three or more Lighteye Spies, that would give the majority to the Good team.) As it is, I don't think that trying for a tie is a good idea unless we can get all of the votes on everyone to 0 (and even then, that might not be best), since that would mean we would have to hope for a tie in the Lighteye vote, which isn't something we can depend on, and ties don't give us much to work with anyway.
  2. When the highlight of your Thanksgiving break is that you convinced both your grandmother and your sister to start reading Mistborn.
  3. I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday. I don’t have a lot of time this morning, so I haven’t read the thread as thoroughly as I’d like. I’ll just put down a few thoughts. I agree that it seems most likely that there’s six spies in this game. Since they don’t know who the other teams are, leaving voting up to their manipulation won’t give us much good information. If we want to be sure of a lynch, we’ll have to plan for both squad leaders and the lighteye votes. I’ve got to go now. I’ll try to get something more substantial up later.
  4. My username over there is luckat (same as here).
  5. Why not, I'll sign up. Tal is an enthusiastic young recruit. She was never content with the role whe was supposed to have, and was so entranced with the idea of fighting, that she disguised herself as a boy to join the army. Now she is excited to join the Blackthorn as he unites Alethkar, and more than a little hopeful that she will prove herself and earn a shardblade.
  6. A troublemaker is defeated once for an inspiring lie, and again for the delayed death he deserved.
  7. I played a bunch when I was younger, but it's been a while. I just tried a few games, and, wow, I'm rusty! I'd be up for playing more.
  8. A Real Man Is a Killer -> Real Women Don’t Wear Dresses -> Mistborn -> Brandon Sanderson Friending Network -> Twitter -> Awesome but Impractical-Literature -> The Way of Kings -> Brandon Sanderson Death as Comedy -> The Woobie-Literature -> The Way of Kings -> Brandon Sanderson Jaywalking Will Ruin Your Life -> All Crimes Are Equal -> The Wheel of Time -> Brandon Sanderson Single-Target Sexuality -> Stalker with a Crush-Literature -> Mistborn -> Brandon Sanderson No Doubt The Years Have Changed Me -> Back from the Dead -> The Wheel of Time -> Brandon Sanderson Robosexual -> Functional Magic -> Brandon Sanderson The Show Must Go Wrong -> Big Bad-Literature -> Brandon Sanderson I should probably stop now. It's a good think it's Thanksgiving break.
  9. So on Roshar? And something more like a mark disappearing than something refusing to change? The Bridge Four tattoos not taking on Kaladin?
  10. Lucy looked around at the people around her. Already some were pointing fingers at her, and that made her worried. It made her think back to the chaos of the Riots and how she had feared for her life then. Sure things had turned out all right, but she didn't want to repeat that experience, and she didn't wish for such a thing to happen anywhere else. In order to stop that, they had to stop Hoid. Unfortunately, everyone was too quiet. It was like they were holding their breaths, waiting for something. She stepped forward, drawing some of her breath back into herself to deepen the colors of her clothing. "We are in a very sticky situation," she said. "We have two enemies, and soon there will be more, and our numbers will only dwindle from now on. We can only guess at who will be converted to Hoid's side. I would suspect that he would want to focus on recruiting people with three qualities: intelligent planners, powerful roles, and, um, people who we are less likely to kill." She faltered. Surely there was a better way to say that. "Anyway, we all know who fits the first category and hopefully Hoid doesn't know who fits the second. Nothing I've seen so far has triggered my suspicions. And I have no clue which of you is Hoid. Do any of you have any ideas?" Her voice had faded to nearly a mutter by the end. She started backing away and was all to conscious of the eyes following her. She quickly hid her breath again and found the nearest shadow to watch from. That kind of analysis needs more data than we have right now, and probably more time than a QF allows. Votes: Heron (0): Jain Damon (0): M, Aili Ashette (0): Sarams Aonar (2): Second, M Lucy (1): Aili *there might be an automatic vote on Damon for inactivity *if either Hadrian or Lucy are in a tie to be lynched, they will lose the tiebreaker (I'd really prefer not to be in danger of dying from that. )
  11. But Bluth died. Wayne can't die. He can't!
  12. There's some details about how rank is passed down over in this quote. Most relevant to the discussion, it appears that a child that is heterochromatic (or a one-eye, as they are apparently called based on what Moash says about Graves at the end of chapter 46 or WoR) is probably declared to be tenth dahn, and a lot of it would depend on the lighteyed parent. I can't really see someone who had one light eye going down to the sixth nahn after losing it.
  13. The green doesn't have to be in the original post. Meta's retraction for Aonar worked with him leaving the original vote red. He just had to put the name in green somewhere. I think that it would make it very likely for us to lose the help of our Researcher. Either Hoid will kill them, or he'll convert them, or we'll think he converted them when he hasn't and we'll lynch them. I can't see that turning out well. And if any Nurses come forward they will be in danger or will end up using their powers just to protect themselves. And we don't want to lynch two of a role if it turns out there actually are two of it. I agree with this. It's possible that Hoid would think learning about everyone's communications is worth potentially losing a convert.
  14. Lucy jumped at a mention of her name. Someone had noticed her. She supposed she really ought to wear more neutral clothes. Fortunately, his attention didn’t seem to stay on her for long. She resolved to keep an eye on him. The raving from M shook her though. It was a moment before she realized he wasn’t actually saying he wanted her dead. Or did he? I agree that a lynch wouldn’t be ideal yet, since it’s so unlikely to kill Hoid at this point, and we’d be more likely to get him or his new convert tomorrow if we wait. That doesn’t mean we should hold back votes and discussion now though. There’s also the question of how we’d stop a lynch. If we try to force a tie, that gives Hoid the power to control the lynch with soothing (which wouldn’t really give us much information since he hasn’t converted anyone yet) and it might put votes on people for no reason which might be relevant in tie breakers in future cycles. And it might not be feasible to get everyone to retract their votes. I don’t think it would be a good idea for everyone to claim their roles publicly. It leaves the Researcher and Letter Bearer wide open for killing or conversion. And I don’t think it really would make it harder for Hoid to hide since if Meta’s analysis of the number of roles is correct, that still leaves half of the group as role-less or Hoid, and I’m not convinced that there’s as many duplicates as he says. Also, here’s a current (as of 7 posts down) vote tally: Heron (1): M Second of the Sky (1): Aonar Hadrian (1): Heron Damon (1): Aili The only player yet to post is Damon, and he’s been on. Also, three people retracted their votes without posting about it. That makes keeping a running total a little hard, you know.
  15. Lucy wandered around the gathering, watching people’s reactions and listening in on snippets of conversation. Half the people in the crowd had started pointing fingers of suspicion, seemingly at random. No one had noticed her yet, which was just fine with her. She didn’t particularly like going about drab, but in a group as dangerous as this one, staying in the shadows was a good idea, at least until she knew more. Most of these people were complete strangers to her. However, she noticed a few familiar faces. Three of them had been with her in the Riots. Although, she had thought Heron and Aonar had died. She hadn’t seen them since, at least. She supposed it wasn’t terribly unlikely that those two had pulled through. She resolved to keep an eye on them, however. It would be just like Hoid to show up as someone long thought dead. And she wanted no part in the trouble he would bring. I’m going to hold off on voting for now, partly because most of the players who haven’t posted yet haven’t even been on yet, so voting for them seems pointless.
  16. There's this quote from Brandon Source And there's a couple of mentions in WoR, like Rock's Lunu'anaki not harming people (I think that's Hoid), and I remember Hoid saying somewhere that he's not good at hurting people in WoR, but I don't have the book on me right now so I can't quote it. So in a fight like this, Hoid wouldn't kill anyone directly, so he wouldn't win, but I don't think he'd lose either since he's so hard to kill.
  17. Lucy was relieved that she had managed to escape Kholinar alive. She was also relieved to no longer have to cover her hand. That entire concept still seemed bizarre to her. Now she was wearing the most colorful clothes she could find, with several bright scarves tucked away. However, no one seemed to notice her. She had awakened several articles of clothing to protect herself and hidden the rest of her breath away so that she could observe without drawing too much attention as long as she was careful. This meeting of the Seventeenth Shard looked important, and she figured it would be best to learn what was going on before getting into the middle of things.
  18. Peter gave a clarification about these epigraphs a while ago over in this thread: It is odd that the two are not the same length. I think I'd chalk it up to the Alethi words not being the same length as the English ones, perhaps. (Or Brandon writing the two separately with more thought for what they said than for whether they fit together perfectly.)
  19. Here's the two WoBs that I think you're talking about. (I found them over here ) Source: Source: So according to those, he did RAFO the non-combat question, but he later answered it
  20. I like the ideas for what to do, especially the discussions and the games. Discussions might be less likely to go off topic with a live audience, especially if the "audience" can participate a lot. What kind of discussions would work and how involved everyone is in them would depend on the number of people. And I can't really think of any other good ideas right now, except for maybe some discussion topics. I like the name Fans of Brandon Sanderson. It's simple and gets the point across, and the acronym gives it a point in its favor. Something cooler-sounding could be good, but not something too obscure or ambiguous.
  21. Six plus me is seven. That might be enough to start something. And it should be possible to find more people. There could even be some more people on this forum who'd be interested but just never come to this section.
  22. To the OP, I'm at BYU and would be interested in joining a Brandon Sanderson Club. I guess if there's no one else interested it wouldn't work out though.
  23. I'd like to have Zinc. Store while watching TV, cleaning, listening to boring lectures. Tap while taking a timed test, rushing to finish an assignment, having a complicated conversation, listening to interesting lectures. Pewter sounds cool too. Store while reading, watching TV, doing homework, seriously almost anything I do. Then I'd have plenty of strength to tap for stubborn pickle jars or carrying big boxes of books up and down stairs or moving the couch when I'm vacuuming. I think I might have just talked myself into pewter. Moving furniture around without having to ask for help from my dad/brother/home teacher/whoever appeals to me for some reason.
  24. Votes: Ash (2): Tryel, Wilim Kasir (2): Aoran, Navor Aoran (2): Kasir, Joseph Luce (1): Araris Navor (1): Raze Araris (1): Snipe Joseph (1): Ryfe Ryfe (1): Luce Tryel (0): Joseph No Vote: Ash There is a three-way tie. I don’t really know who to suspect, so I don’t feel like breaking it. We’ll probably get good information no matter who is lynched. I’m going to vote so I can get a ration though, so I’ll pick Ryfe, mostly because no one has voted for him yet. @Joseph You probably won’t see this before the cycle is over, but shouldn’t your retraction be in green? Regarding the whole why did X die instead of Y, it’s likely Aoran and Kasir didn't die for the same reason: they didn’t say much day 1 and seemed busy with RL. And Wern was likely killed for being one of the more active players this game who wasn’t nearly lynched. As much as killing people based on threat level from previous games is a valid Eliminator tactic, killing someone who said they were so busy that they might die of starvation or someone whose only post consisted of a single line seems kind of pointless. Also, Aoran, what do you make of Wern expressing a desire to vote for Jain with your suspicion of all of the people who voted for Jain? And Kasir, do you want to give more information about your mysterious message, or have you decided that it’s not as suspicious as you thought since it seems Joseph didn’t send it? (If his vote change goes through, then he couldn't have sent it.)
