  1. @Sart You left your copperloud on to prevent vote manipulation… when you didn’t even vote or didn’t vote until the end of the day when no one would want to manipulate your vote anyway… and when it was possible you could be scanned. And then you turned it off to not look suspicious… when the seeker died and we are at the point when the village needs to prevent spiked emotional allomancy…. You didn’t tell us until it was possible a soother could have “wasted” their time checking you for a coppercloud (what would you have said if Maill had tried to soothe you instead of Ripple day 7?) ... but you did tell us so now the spiked soother knows not to bother soothing you… because you figured revealing being a smoker makes you not look suspicious. Okay. I don’t see any evidence here that you aren’t the one who smoked Maill. As for Jain, for various reasons I think he is slightly more likely to be spiked than the other inactives. However, since he is inactive there isn’t much point in killing him yet, or much information to learn about or from him. It would be more useful to look more closely at active players until there is evidence for only inactive spiked left. (Anyway, the spiked could have soothed a vote off him to make him look more suspicious or to make a tie more likely, not just to protect him when that wouldn’t be enough to save him alone.)
  2. There are 16 players left. Of those, only 12 are active enough to (probably) vote. It would be reasonable to estimate there are 4 spiked left. While it is possible some are among the inactives, it is probably safer in determining how much time we have left to suppose they are not. So we likely have 8 players to their 4. However, voting power also depends on emotional allomancy. There are 2 active soothers. The one who soothed Alv last cycle was likely Spiked (they disregarded Hael's advice to look for the smoker and they caused a tie when it was clear Maill would soothe one of the votes for himself). I don't know if their goal was to cause a tie or to protect Hero or to make Hero look suspicious. If Maill is spiked, it would be a bit odd for them to endanger him, but they knew he would be soothing someone who was not smoked, so unless a new emotional allomancer showed up, he would be safe. A tie was beneficial to the Spiked because it means only they have a say in who dies. It gives them time to kill off the confirmed players without narrowing down who is spiked. As a soother, Maill is a great asset if he is good (unless his vote manipulation is negated by a smoker). However, if we don't know his alignment, he is a liability. If we lynch wrong this cycle, next cycle we will be at (possibly) 6-4. If they have two soothers at that time, they will be able to force a tie (assuming none of them are inactive). So if Maill is spiked and we don't lynch him, we might be at the point where it is impossible to win. However, if Maill is good and we lynch him, we still have one more cycle as long as everyone who appears to be somewhat active votes. I do think Maill is suspicious. Catching eliminators in lies is a useful way to find them, and many things Maill has said have been fishy. Also, he was instrumental in the death of our seeker. (Revealing him to the thread allowed the spiked to kill him without worrying about making someone look suspicious for knowing about him beforehand. It also made it possible that Hael might be lynched instead of having to risk the kill being protected by a lurcher.) While I can see his point about knowing Hael was the seeker beforehand making him look less suspicious, I'm not convinced that means Maill is good. Whatever other reasons could be conjured up, Hael dying would have pointed right to Maill. Would Maill really be willing to sacrifice himself to get rid of a seeker, especially if they have a smoker? Especially if Maill though he could potentially manipulate Hael, and even more so one he heard about the lurcher? Maill himself said he would fight his death as a villager, even if it might be better for the village if he died. Wouldn't he do the same as a spiked? Also, the spiked had been doing a good job of killing verified players (Ada, Wyrm, and Kipper) so the trust group might not have seemed too dangerous for them yet. I'm not really sure of anything right now. I'm a bit worried about how little opposition there is to the lynch on Maill. I'm also wondering why Elkanah and Mash both didn't vote. If Mash is trusting of Maill, why not vote for Hero? Why wouldn't Elkanah vote for either of his suspicions, either to increase discussion or to decrease the risk of emotional allomancy changing the vote? I'll put my vote on Maill for now. This late in the cycle, it is unlikely to change. I wouldn't be opposed to changing if there were enough people on a different reasonable target. But whatever happens, it is important to make sure someone has at least three more votes than anyone else. There is evidence for two soothers, and both soothed votes off Maill on Day 6, so they could work together again. Also, what exactly is the case against Hero? I feel like I've missed everyone's reasons for suspecting him. (Maybe I just haven't read closely enough.) Current vote tally Maill (6): Hero, Elbereth, Sart, Mark, Ripple, Lu Hero (2): Maill, Orlok
  3. I suppose I might as well mention I'm the one Hael scanned first. Since the others are exposed, there's no reason to keep hidden. I've been looking at the numbers, and it's getting close to the point where we need to get one of the Spiked. Obviously, it depends on who has what vote manipulation roles and whether any of the Spiked are among the inactives. There's 17 people still alive. Of those, 5 (Creccio, Bort, Jain, Weiry, and Ripple) are inactive to the point that it is unlikely they will vote. Ripple told me last week she would hopefully be back to posting Wednesday, but she still hasn't posted. Mashadar said he's gone for this cycle, but he should be here after that. I think, or at least hope, everyone else playing can be counted on to vote if we are desperate. So, of the 17 people alive, only 12 count when it comes to votes. There were probably 5 Spiked to start with, so if we assume all the Spiked are active, we are basically 8 against 4. We might be better off than that, but I wouldn't count on it. There have been two instances of Soothing every day except day 4, so it looks like there are 2 soothers. There was only ever the one instance of rioting, so I suspect that rioter is either inactive or was actually a Mistborn. Depending on the alignments of the soothers, our votes right now could be anything from 6:4 to 8:2. If it's the former, then we're already at the point where we need to get one of the Spiked right now. Otherwise, we have another cycle or two where we can be wrong, as long as we all stay active enough. I'm just not much sure about anyone right now. I'll admit I'm a bit worried about the fact that Hael hasn't found any Spiked yet, but it's perfectly within reason that he hasn't. When I calculated it, I found that, supposing Hael is good, there would be a 23.6% chance of not finding a Spiked by this point (I think Sart may have left out the coppercloud and the fact that Hael wouldn't be included in potential people to scan). That's unlucky, but not unreasonable. As it is, I'm certainly not ready to lynch Hael yet. This will be the first night he is outed as a Seeker to the thread, which means it is likely the Spiked will attack him if he is good. If they don't attack him now that they definitely know who he is, I'll be suspicious, but if we lynch him now we are probably just doing exactly what the Spiked want and making it easier for them to get rid of the trusted group if Hael is good. I agree with Hael that now would be a good time for emotional allomancers to check for copperclouds. Unless Hael is lying, we know someone who is most likely spiked smoked Maill. I suppose someone could soothe or riot Maill to check that there really was a coppercloud as a way to test Hael without killing anyone if they wanted, but while finding no coppercloud would mean Hael is definitely evil, finding one wouldn't say much. As for Maill's question about why Hael wouldn't be dead if Maill was Spiked, maybe you didn't think outing yourself would be worth getting rid of him, especially after you heard about the Lurcher (which maybe it would be better if the Spiked didn't know about...). Or maybe you are both Spiked. I agree with Sart for the most part about how oddly Maill is acting. I'm still not entirely sure I think Maill is Spiked though. The lie about someone scanning HS is something I am more likely to expect from a Spiked, but it is Maill. However, I think that if he is a villager, he is being quite unhelpful with how confusing he is. If anything, he has made us focus on him too much instead of other people. I also think his calls for a lurcher to protect him seem like a way to keep protection away from the people the Spiked are actually going after. (Since most people think he is suspicious and he isn't scanned, the Spiked have higher priorities.) I would actually like to hear exactly what Maill has learned, preferably in a logical fashion, that makes all his misinformation beneficial for the village. That should be more than just a list of suspicions without clear reasoning behind it. I'm sorry if what I say doesn't make a lot of sense or isn't very useful. I've been having a hard time concentrating on the game. I'll certainly be paying enough attention to vote when I need to, but I might not be very helpful.
  4. I'm still not quite sure what to think about everything that has happened. I'm a bit suspicious of Maill. Or the proxy. But really, without more information it's hard to have a clue what is going on. When I talked to Maill about it, it lessened my suspicions of him a bit, but I'm still not sure. It makes some sense to see what people do without knowledge of a scan, but as I told Maill during the night, I think letting us all know earlier would have given us the opportunity to have a more fruitful discussion about Seekers' and proxies' trustworthiness and whether lynching a Seeking target is worth it rather than having to make a last minute decision about whether to trust some fishy-sounding information. I hope that in the future any information that is key to the lynch at hand is shared early enough that everyone is able to see it and have time to respond to it (around the 1/2 or 3/4 mark of the cycle instead of near the end). Maill, I think it would help if you shared more about what went on in your PM with the proxy. At this point, too many secrets are more likely to harm us than help us against the Spiked. In particular, could you answer the questions Kipper asked? As for who to lynch, I'm really not sure at this point. We don't really want to lynch someone who is active without relatively strong suspicions. I feel like we need a bit more information out there for those, but maybe there will be something by the end of the cycle. Lynching someone who hasn't been on for 1+ cycles (Creccio, Bort, or Jain) won't really gain us anything other than knowledge of their role and alignment, which doesn't tell us much beyond what the distribution is. They aren't likely to get on to help us, but they also aren't sending in orders for the Spiked so they aren't harming us if they are left alive. To be honest, with inactives like those, I think it is best to just consider them as dead and likely villagers when thinking about numbers relating to lynch-or-lose. Weiry is an interesting case in that his expected future activity level is about the same as those previously mentioned, but he's obviously still going to be on the Shard. He theoretically could be sending in actions, but I doubt he is. The information gained from lynching any of these is minimal, but probably better than no lynch if we can't decide on another target. I doubt poke votes would accomplish anything on any of them since it is unlikely any of them are following the game. Other than those, the biggest inactive is probably Ripple. She hasn't posted in several cycles. However, I PMed her last cycle and she said that, while she has been busy, she will hopefully be able to be more active later this week. She said she will likely be able to pay more attention to the game on Wednesday, so I think it would be best to give her until then before anyone tries to prod her. There's not anyone else that I would consider really inactive at this point. At the very least, I think we can count on everyone else to vote if we are in a dire situation. However, I do hope that everyone who hasn't gotten around to posting yet this cycle makes an effort to do so. Anyway, here's a vote tally: Hael (0): Maill1 Maill (2): Hero, Phatt Hero (1): Maill2 Alv (1): Elkanah Jain (1): Alv
  5. I think this seeker claim is fishy, honestly. A proxy for a proxy sounds like a way to redirect the blame if things go wrong. Why not have someone the Seeker has scanned come forward? Protection for the scanned, I suppose. The thing is, Hellscythe’s posts earlier don't sound like someone who was scanned. They sound more like someone frustrated they don’t know anything about the Seeker. Why not bring this up earlier? I can see wanting to see what people do without the knowledge, although that isn’t as helpful if you don’t even know the Seeker can be trusted, but why wait until the last couple hours of the cycle, when most people can’t even give their input on the matter? It doesn’t seem like there’s other people in this Seeker’s trusted group who are trying to save HS. Maybe it's the truth. Maybe this Seeker is Spiked. Maybe this is something Maill made up to save HS. Honestly, to me this whole thing sounds more like a last ditch effort by Maill to save HS than anything else. We’re not going to find out which it is if we just switch the lynch to an inactive or a tie, although I suppose that would give us more time to figure out the truth. It would also give the Spiked more time to kill us while we don’t accomplish anything. This whole thing is making me confused, and I'd like some concrete information.
  6. It’s been pretty quiet here. Even if you don’t have much time, if the people who haven’t posted could just post a sentence or two of their thoughts about the Tineye situation or whether Wyrm or HS seems more suspicious, that would be great. I think Hellscythe's actions have been a bit off. I think he jumped on Wyrm too fast. He almost seems to want to get rid of PMs. In addition, since HS has been in a tied lynch twice, I think we could learn a lot from his alignment, regardless of what it is. However, I’m not certain about Wyrm. If HS turns out to be a villager and/or Wyrm isn’t killed by the Spiked soon, I’m going to have to look more closely at him. While I don’t like the idea of losing PMs, I don’t think we should avoid lynching someone based just on their role if that means we aren’t coming up with better choices. If the Seekers’ confirmed groups come up with a way to share results without PMs, as Elbereth said, losing PMs won’t be too big a deal. Vote tally (hopefully this one is correct) HS (3): Elbereth, Maill, Lu Wyrm (1): HS Hero (1): Wyrm
  7. Sorry about taking so long before saying anything useful about the game. @Sart: I agree with you about wanting a response from Mark. What happened between you and Lopen, Mark? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get on again for the rest of the cycle, but this is only one vote on you, and we really need more voting going on. Also, what you have said about Venture is true, but I think it would be better for Venture to defend himself. Also, as Ada pointed out, voting for Lopen doesn't clear Venture. It is possible he was a Spiked trying to get Lopen to respond. His vote, while the second, was also early enough in the cycle that they both could have retracted. Venture may not have retracted later because Lopen didn't look like he was in danger anymore. Hael responded adequately when Ada asked him about it, but Venture never did. Venture can you respond both to the question about your activity and Ada's question to you here? It could be to protect against a Mistborn. If we do have a Coinshot who is holding back, though, I think it might be good for them to go after some of the people who have been tied for the lynch since our lynches haven't actually killed people recently. It occurs to me a Spiked Tineye could do something similar: have someone with a role they want alive or who already looks suspicious claim Tineye to protect them. Vote Tally: Venture (4): Maill, Hael, Alv, Kipper Stink (2): HS, Stink Hero (1): Wyrm Maill (1): Sart Mark (1): Lu
  8. I've been busy for the last few days because of the holidays. I thought I'd have more time than I had. I've read the previous cycles, but I haven't had time to do much more than skim the thread and check votes this cycle. I know Kas proposed some plan to do with Smokers, but I haven't looked closely enough to respond to it. It's late, so I really need to sleep right now. I don't anticipate having much time tomorrow either. Maybe enough to read the thread, but not enough to post. All I will do is respond to Maill's almost-vote on me. If you have an actual reason to be suspicious of me, tell me. Otherwise, I will take it as a vote on me for not posting enough (even though there have been people similarly quiet or even more so who aren't on your list). If that's the case... well... I'll respond the only way I can. This is something that has been bugging me for a while. I can't not have a bad reaction to a vote on me that I perceive (whether it is or not might not have anything to do with what I perceive) as based on a personality trait (me being shy and anxious about posting) rather than anything to do with the game at hand. (Frankly, talk about how lurkers are better off dead elicits a similar reaction from me, and may be part of why I didn't say anything during the last cycle.) I ended up spending most of the time I had for this game today upset about the situation. Instead of, you know, doing anything that would be useful. Seeing my name in red isn't going to encourage me to play. There are three possible reactions I will have to a vote on me based on my activity: 1. Ignore it. This is the best case scenario because then I might actually be able to say something useful in the game. 2. Get ticked off enough about it that I can't say anything polite or focus on anything else happening in the game. 3. Feel useless and like everyone would be better off if I wasn't around. Then I will not enjoy the game, and I will probably just avoid it entirely. If someone wants to engage me in the game because I've been too quiet, they can either give me something specific to respond to (and a vote is not that) or try to talk to me in PMs. While I'm posting, I might as well put up a vote tally, since it's all I have for this cycle. Stink (0): Maill1 Wyrm (0): Kas1 Mark (1): Stink Bort (1): Maill2 Maill (1): Kas2 HS (1): Elbereth Hael (1): HS
  9. It's similar, but not the same. The earlier question was about what happened in the case of an external influence that countered the action. This question was about what if a Rioter tried to do an action that ended up being invalid (and so wouldn't be something that was attempted). I could have seen it going either way: their target wasn't present so the action didn't happen at all, or the Rioter tried but their attempt failed. I just prefer to get as clear of clarifications as I can on boundary cases like these because I've been burned in the past because I assumed an interpretation I thought was obvious that turned out to be incorrect.
  10. This is the vote tally I had from the thread: Jain (3): Stink, Elkanah, HS Lopen (1): Venture Kas (1): Kas HS (1): Araris Hael (1): Orlok Ada (1): Wyrm Bort (1): Hael Hero (1): Ada Orlok (1): Maill (Since my tally matched the one Meta gave toward the end of Day 1, I'm reasonably sure this is accurate.) And here's the tally from the writeup: Jain (1)- Elkanah Lopen (2)- Venture, HS Kas (1)- Kas Hael (1)- Orlok Ada (1)- Wyrm Bort (1)- Hael Hero (1)- Ada Orlok (1)- Maill (The names and positions are changed to match the above better.) So the changes are: HS from Jain to Lopen Stink from Jain to no one Araris from HS to no one Hellscythe was obviously Rioted. The Rioter is probably good, but we don't know who it was. The other two could have been Soothed (or maybe Rioted) or could have been a Rioter that used their powers on Hellscythe or in a different failed attempt at Rioting. Meta: Since you didn't answer this before, can a Rioter change a vote on a person to a No Vote? Also, if a Rioter tries to Riot someone who ends up not voting, is their vote still negated? What happens if a Rioter tries to Riot someone to who they are already voting for?
  11. In that case, if a Rioter tries to change the vote of someone who ends up not voting, is their vote negated? It's a bit late to really plan this since any Rioters might not still be on to change their orders and if there's more than one they would have to all Riot you to the same person if the Riot isn't to be cancelled anyway. Besides, just one vote on you wouldn't be enough to kill you, and you would have to vote for it to matter at all. (I also think it would be better to test emotional allomancy on the Soother themselves to test them than to check you and that making this all open for the Spiked to mess with with their own emotional allomancy kind of defeats the point.) @Maill Are you going to green out your vote for Phatt so your vote for Orlok counts, or did you want to leave it on Phatt?
  12. Meta: If a Rioter’s power is counteracted by either conflicting emotional allomancy or a coppercloud, is their vote still negated? Also, I don’t think I’ve seen you answer this, but can a Rioter change a “No Vote” to a vote for a person or a vote for a person to a “No Vote”? Also, can Soothers or Rioters target themselves? I just want to check these for if our vote manipulators are planning on using their powers to check for copperclouds. Especially since Kas’s suggestion for the Rioters (Mashadar) hasn’t voted and isn’t likely to. (I personally think looking for copperclouds we don’t know about would be more useful, but there is merit to checking claims.)
  13. As far as I can tell, people find it suspicious that Wyrm claimed to be a Tineye publicly. They think a Villager wouldn't claim that because it would paint a target on their back for the Spiked, while a Spiked Tineye would want to claim to discourage people from lynching or Coinshooting them since they don't have to worry about the Spiked kill. I don't think there was anything else. I'm inclined to wait and see if the Spiked rise to the bait or if Wyrm does anything else suspicious before risking our PMs on so little evidence.
  14. Even if we could guess Meta's distribution based on what is typical, that wouldn't be two of each role. In previous games, Meta has had about a third of the players be regular villagers, and there's some roles (Coinshot, at least) that we would usually only expect one of. There might be only one Tineye because PMs aren't essential. I agree the writeup seems to imply two Tineyes. It's even possible there is a third who didn't send in a message. Conversely, we can't know that one of the Tineye messages wasn't actually from a Mistborn. I hope a Mistborn would make it clear they weren't permanently a Tineye if they sent a message, but we can't know. Also, even with two Tineyes, killing one means we are just one mistake or eliminator kill away from losing PMs (except for if a Mistborn rolls Tin). While we would be able to handle losing PMs, it is something that I think we should consider carefully. We don't want to lose a Tineye based on only a few votes.
  15. Lu glared at the papers that were scattered on the ground. What a mess. When she’d told the Tineyes to send a message, she hadn’t expected this. “I told you to try to keep yourself alive,” she said to “The Amazing” Wyrm. “Not paint a huge target on yourself. Now the Spiked know who to kill to stop communications.” She stalked away toward a newer person in town who didn’t say where he came from but called himself Four. “You want something to do? How about you clean this all up.” Then she pocketed one of the papers to examine later. I want to note to Kas that I agree with you that Copper is useful for villagers. I just think it is more useful later, when we have fewer numbers and more to worry about with vote manipulation. It is also more useful if the Spiked don’t already know who can use it, which they can find out through the vote manipulation that would be blocked by it. I think it would be more useful to see what vote manipulation occurs right now for the information it gives than protect random people from it and possibly reveal to the Spiked who has Copper. Here’s a list of the pros and cons of turning Copper off for a Village Smoker: Pros: Help Seekers, info from vote manipulation, hide Smokers from Spiked Soothers and Rioters, not suspicious to Village Soothers and Rioters Cons: Help Spiked Seekers, vulnerable to Spiked Soothers and Rioters I think while we have more players than them and next to no information about them, the pros of Village Smokers leaving copper off outweigh the cons. When our numbers are fewer and we have an idea of who we should vote with, Copper will be useful to protect our votes. However, I suspect a Spiked Smoker would turn on their Copper and possibly protect one of their own from Seekers. If they don’t, they are vulnerable to being found by our Seekers (and say what you want about us not knowing we have them, they also don’t know if we don’t have them). So Copper is better for the Spiked to use right now than for us. Since you have revealed yourself, I don’t think the pros of you turning off your Copper outweigh the cons. However, I think they do for other Village Smokers. Given your circumstances and arguments, I can’t say I am very suspicious of you for using Copper or revealing yourself (you're not really hindering the Seekers' task if they know not to scan you, and it is reasonable for you to want to reveal yourself as a role that is considered less valuable because of your poor survival record), but I think other players could be suspicious if they use Copper instead of turning it off. There’s definitely pros and cons, but I think it would be good to put pressure on potential Spiked. I would be interested in hearing thoughts from everyone on the idea I proposed during the night for Soothers and Rioters search for copperclouds with their powers. I think that would be a good way for the village vote manipulation roles to be used early on. While obviously finding a coppercloud doesn’t mean they are spiked (we don’t even know for sure if they have any Smokers), it would be useful information. I’d say finding a coppercloud wouldn’t be something worthy of a lynch, but it would certainly deserve some discussion. If everyone gives their thoughts on this, we’ll also have a better starting place for who would be suspicious if there is a coppercloud on them. Hellscythe, you missed Kas’s vote on Araris and Wyrm's vote and retraction for Mashadar and didn’t list Hero’s vote on Kas in your tally. Here’s day's vote tally as far as I can tell. If I made any mistakes, please point them out. Lopen (1): Hael1, Venture Venture (0): Maill1 Mashadar (0): Wyrm1 Araris (1): Kas Jain (1): Stink Kas (1): Hero Wyrm (2): HS, Mark HS (1): Araris Phatt (1): Maill2 As it is, Wyrm is in the lead. While I'm not quite sure what to think of his reveal as a Tineye, I also don't think it is a great idea to kill a claimed Tineye immediately. If he isn't Spiked, we're just helping them remove our communications.
  16. Lu frowned at the wrecked coach and the message. The message made it clear there was more than just koloss at work here. It bothered her that she didn’t know who had done it. She prided herself on knowing everything that went on in the village. She’d heard rumors of some strange powers--evil arts that only the most twisted people would employ. Before, she had discounted them as rumors, but now she knew she had to get to the bottom of this. The people in the village--at least the ones who were awake this late at least--had already started talking about how to deal with the threat. That was good. She hoped the others would be ready to work to find the culprits come day. As it was, she figured she might as well do what she did best--tell people what to do. “Everyone,” she announced to the people still gathered outside, “we’re going to have to work together to survive this mess. I know some of you have powers that could help us find who did this.” She gestured at the scene that still held everyone else’s eyes, even after several hours. “Tineyes, we’re going to need your powers to send messages that our enemies can’t find. Keep yourselves alive and ready to carry messages. Also, it would be helpful for us to know how many of you we have so we can plan for when messages go down. (So all of you send in a message tonight. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Hiding things in messages can help you claim later, but you can always claim directly in a message later if you want to.) If you ever have important information you want to share anonymously, use your message to do so. “Lurchers, protect someone. Try to keep them from whittling us down. Just don’t forget and sleep through the night. "Likewise with Seekers. Your powers will be very helpful for us to find the Spiked and form groups that can trust one another. Target your suspects or the people you want to work with. Just don't forget. And stay hidden from everyone except who you trust. “Coinshots, hold off for now. Your powers are best used with precision. Don’t do the enemies’ job for them. In the future, we as a village can guide you in choosing targets. “Smokers, for now it is best if you don’t use your powers. We don’t want to make our seekers’ job any harder. It is also good if we can see what our enemies do to influence the votes. Smoking people will only hide vote manipulation and reveal to the spiked who they won’t be able to influence in the future. You will be valuable in keeping people’s emotions their own in the future, if we are in danger of being overrun by the spiked, but for now you should sit back. Remember, if you choose not to use your powers, you must send that in as an action. “Thugs, it will be helpful if the spiked waste a kill on you. There isn’t much you can do to cause that, but make sure the spiked don’t know about your powers. “Soothers and Rioters, we will want you to keep the village calm. However, early on if you try to influence the vote we won’t be able to tell if it is a villager or a spiked. We’ll want you most of all when our numbers are few. However, at first you can help us find people who are shielded by copperclouds. If the smokers take my advice, only the spiked who want to remain hidden to seekers will be shielded from your allomancy. Until we know who is evil, you can try to find copperclouds. Just make sure you don’t do anything that will mess with the vote. “Mistborn, you have an impressive powerset. I know it might be tempting to use whatever power you have whenever you have it, but it is best if you follow the advice I gave for each individual power and hold back if necessary. Also, if you get Tin any night, make a message you can use to reveal yourself later because, unlike Tineyes, you might not have the chance to do so again. “However, it isn’t just the people with powers who we need. We need everyone to discuss and vote. Otherwise the spiked will kill us all without a fight. I want to hear from every one of you tomorrow. For now, watch for anything suspicious and be careful about who you trust.” With that, Lu left to get a few winks of sleep. It was late and she would need to be at her best when day came. I put most of my thoughts above. Here’s my main points though. The first cycle is a bit premature to go after inactives. I hope everyone will contribute sufficiently so that we don’t have to later. I put thoughts about what each role should do above. Read that and either follow or discard the advice as you choose. I like the idea of a night vote as long as we don’t expect the same level of activity in it as during the day since the night is shorter than the day and some people have actions to focus on instead of voting during the night. In response to the discussion Kas and Seonid had about what Smokers should do, I’d like to add that I think Smokers should not burn for now. This isn’t just because it can confuse the seekers. Emotional allomancy early on can be a valuable source of information, and I think it will be better for us if Smokers don’t mask that. In addition, Soothers and Rioters can try to find anyone hidden by a coppercloud, and if we are in agreement that village Smokers shouldn’t burn, we can be suspicious of anyone a Soother or Rioter tries and fails to influence. It’s obviously not perfect because the Smokers might not all agree and a Spiked Smoker could easily target an innocent, but it would give us something useful to go on. Whatever the Smokers choose, remember that you have to send in an order to not burn. Everyone remember to send in whatever orders you choose to make. There’s only about three hours left.
  17. I've been going back and forth on whether to join this game. I want to try playing again, and I want to play the AG since I missed the last one. But I'm not sure I can be super active the whole time. I've decided to give it a shot since I should have time for most of the game. I just might not be able to be very active at first or at the end if the game goes long. I'll sign up as Lu, town busybody.
  18. I'd guess the change is at 8192 since that's 213 and every other power of 2 except 22 and 23 has been a new level.
  19. Like Twi and Hael, I’m coming at this from a religious perspective. I’ve had questions and still have questions, but I don’t know how much help I will be if you completely lose your faith. I agree with what Twi said about figuring out what you do believe. She gave great ideas for exploring faith. I’d also like to add that if you still have a belief in God, supplementing your studies with prayer will be helpful. If you have something more concrete than, “I don’t really want to go to church anymore,” then it will be easier to know what you actually want to do (whether you want to cease church attendance completely, go but take things said there with a grain of salt, try going to a different church, or something else entirely) and what you should say to your mother. It sounds more like you don’t know what you believe than that you’re sure you don’t believe your mother’s church. You might want to stop going for any reason from no longer believing in God to not agreeing with the church’s interpretation of God to not liking the people at church. I don’t know what your particular doubts are right now, and what you believe will influence how you frame what you say to your mother. Stopping attending church would be a fairly large step because of your mother, so you should be sure that is the best option for yourself before you do it. If you continue go to church without examining your own beliefs and without sharing your doubts, it will continue to wear you down. However, if you just leave when you don’t know what you believe, you aren’t likely to feel much better. You will feel good about finally getting your doubts out in the open, but you won’t be any closer to answering your questions and your mother will likely make you wonder if you made the right decision. Be open to different possibilities. You don’t have to stop going to church if there are a few things you disagree with or you still have questions. You also don’t have to stay if you do agree with some things but not what you think is important. Perhaps continuing to go to church will give you the opportunity to explore what you believe and how it compares to what is taught there. On the other hand, maybe the time you spend at church would be put to better use studying on your own if you feel too stressed there and the questions you have aren’t adequately addressed. It could be good to look at things from a variety of viewpoints. Don’t be afraid to look at beliefs outside Christianity. Look at frameworks of both spirituality and morality and consider what you agree with and what you don’t. If you know exactly what you disagree with and what you agree with, you will know if there is something fundamental to the church that you can’t agree with or if your disagreements are peripheral or if a different religion is closer to what you believe. I also think it would be good for you to find someone you know to talk to about your faith. It sounds like bottling up your doubts is a major source of your stress. Sharing it here seems to have helped, but a one on one, face to face conversation with someone who knows you well might help even more. If you can find someone who is willing to listen without trying to force you to believe what they want you to--a friend at school, maybe someone at church if they’re open minded, or even one of your older siblings who has been in a similar position if they are willing to talk--you will feel less like you have to keep up a facade everywhere and you will have support in whatever you decide. It sounds like you wish you could have an open conversation about this with your mother. I’m sure she would be very happy to help you with your struggle of faith, and if you are open with her whatever you choose to do will not come as a surprise to her. If you think she would be a good person to talk to as you explore what you believe, that would be excellent. However, it is important for you to make decisions based on what you believe, not what she thinks you should believe. If mentioning questioning will only upset her, it might be best to talk to someone else while you figure out what you believe and only talk to your mother when you decide what to do. Your concerns aren’t silly at all. It is clear that you care a lot about your mother. If you make sure she knows that and are open about your thoughts and decisions, it may ease some of her disappointment if you make decisions she disagrees with. Keep up your relationship with her independant of religion. Ultimately, you will need to decide what to do based on what you believe. Don’t stay with the church just because that is what your mother wants, but also don’t leave just because that is what your siblings did or because it is easier to avoid questions. Do what is best for you. Ask others for guidance and support, but come to your own conclusions. When you know what is best for you at the time, then you can figure out how to say what you need to say, and you will be confident you are making the right decision. Any decision you make can be revised in the future. I hope this helps. I’m willing to talk things over with you if you want, and it looks like there’s plenty of others here who want to help you. I wish you the best in figuring everything out.
