  1. I'm pretty sure that most non-chosen children don't see the ShadowBlaze. It would be rather difficult to keep the secret if they did. So Joel's rejection was different from most rejections. One possibility that occurred to me is that Joel tried to touch the creature, which might have driven it off. But it seems like many children, when confronted with a weird magical creature, might try to touch it, and again, I don't think there are any other instances of the creature appearing and the child not becoming a Rithmatist. As far as the coin goes, remember that the guy who discovered Rithmatics had a watch.
  2. There's already one for a mobile game: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/3273-rithmatist-mobile-game/
  3. Has anybody here played the flash game Gemcraft? It's a tower defense game where you place gems in towers, and the gems shoot monsters. In the game, you can pause the game entirely to readjust which gems go in which towers, but then there is a time spent recharging. That's how I'd make a computer, and maybe even tablet game - you can design your shapes (which are premade) while the game is paused, but then they get "drawn" in real time. And maybe there's a few settings for how fast they are "drawn", with fast speeds affecting the stability of the shape. It would make multiplayer duels rather difficult, though. Incidentally, Gemcraft is also a game where you get attacked by 2 dimensional bug-like monsters, and the big bad is a shadow-like demon called "The Forgotten". I have to wonder if Brandon's played the game.
  4. I agree with you. While it would have been cool to see Joel the crazy skilled Rithmatist, I've read too many stories with the "I suck at magic... It turns out I'm actually super powerful at magic, we just couldn't tell" plotline.
  5. The back cover spells "Lilly" with one L in the first instance of her name. I remember seeing a typo somewhere in the book, but I'd have to look through it in detail to find it again. It was just a mistyping, though.
  6. The intro paragraph to a Rithmatist review (found here: http://www.fantasyliterature.com/reviews/the-rithmatist/) I’m beginning to wonder if Brandon Sanderson is cloning himself. Really, it’s just making the rest of us look bad, all the work he’s managing to put out there. I find myself hoping he’s a really bad father or something, until I realize that’s sort of taking it out on his children. So maybe I’ll go with his lawn is a scraggly weed-filled mess and he dresses poorly. Anyway, another month, another Sanderson book . . .
  7. Those look wonderful. What do they say? Also, what are the dimensions? nevermind. Just looked at the first post again.
  8. What's that one say?
  9. I think it would be funny if Kelsier and Moiraine met. Oh, wait...
  10. It's probably too expensive to be practical, but I'd like to see OreSeur when he's imitating the nobleman to be completely CGI. It will add a little bit of inhumanity that could look very good. (I realize that kandra are supposed to look indistinguishable from the people they're imitating. But it seems like too good of an effect to waste)
  11. Sandra can't be a hallucination - there's a picture of her. I was particularly amused by the way the hallucinations have hallucinations (and other mental disorders). I wonder if it's actually Stephen who has the disorders, and by "giving" the disorders to his hallucinations, he's able to function normally.
  12. You can't be perfectly weightless. Even if you can store all your weight, you can't store the weight of your clothes, and even if you're naked, you still have to be holding your ironminds.
  13. http://torforge.wordpress.com/2012/09/12/memory-of-light-backpack-sweepstakes/ The prize is a Wheel of Time backpack and six(!) books, one of which is the Way of Kings. Thought you ought to know.
  14. I'm going to go with being a Windrunner (Surgebinding on the poll). My reasons are a) Zero-G, and it's the only power that comes with an invisible friend. Feruchemy is tempting, but it doesn't come with zero gravity. Allomancers can leap about, but it's not the same.
  15. The Mistborn movie would benefit from better source material, so I'm not too concerned in that regard.
  16. Ah, but can you hear other people misspelling words?
  17. Between Feruchemy and Allomancy, the answer is obvious. Power = Energy/Time. In Allomancy the amount of energy you can access in 1 second is limited. In Feruchemy you can access arbitrarily large amounts of energy in a second. Therefore Feruchemy is more powerful. (Yes, yes, I know there are other definitions of power. Let me have my fun, okay?)
  18. I've got to figure that even the best made mistcloaks will fray a bit after a year or two of leaping around the city at night. And you can't exactly pick one up on your weekly shopping trip if you're trying to keep your abilities a secret. I'm sure that the really wealthy nobles could afford to keep their mistcloaks well groomed, but there were probably lesser nobles who had reasonably frayed ones.
  19. With regards to their being no Mistborn, it's possible that Sazed tweaked the rules of Allomancy a bit to make full Mistborns less frequent than before (which was already really rare). We know that he has some control over how Allomancy works - Preservation switched Atium and Larasium for Cadmium and Bendalloy, and Sazed switched them back. Also, I'm pretty sure that Brandon said that Sazed changed Snapping so that it no longer required strong emotions. And I definitely got the impression that Ferrings didn't exist during the Final Empire, if only because they're never mentioned. So it seems possible that Sazed decided that there wouldn't be full Mistborn anymore.
  20. Regardless of the likelihood of the movie, we can still pick the actors we think would be perfect in the roles.
  21. I think there are two basic rules to a mistcloak: it must be composed of strips, and it must look cool while flying through the air. If it fulfills those two criteria, it's a mistcloak. Oh, and it shouldn't impede your movement either.
  22. Does anyone know how big the Allomantic Symbol Stickers are? I was thinking about getting one for my laptop, but they look like they were sized for cars, and I was worried they might be too big.
  23. Don't forget that Hugh is theater-trained, and Sam has actually played Eponine before. I think they'll be plenty good.
  24. I think the order is: Kelsier runs out of Atium Szeth runs out of stormlight Kelsier runs out of normal metals. The question is whether there are other sources of stormlight around? Kelsier will certainly be carrying extra stores of metal, so it only seems fair to give Szeth a few gems. With the advantages of coinshooting nullified by reverse lashings, I think that the tide turns in Szeth's favor, but Atium is a powerful tool, so it's still balanced.
