  1. Unless there was some coflict with the first Oath, I don't see how something like that could affect all the Orders.
  2. 1. I could see that, if the Letters hadn't pretty much confirmed that Odium is a terrible person. 2. I doubt that honorspren would do something like that. It kind of is the opposite of "protecting". While it's possible that the Recreance is related to the Heralds' abandonment of the Oathpact, that can't be the only reason, because (as I said before), they're murdering their spren to do so.Or to put it another way: "Hey, I just learned that our founder lied to us! I'm quitting!" is plausible. "Hey, I just learned that our founder lied to us! I'm quitting and murdering my friend!" is not.
  3. I couldn't find any topics devoted to discussing what we've learned / can infer about the Day of Recreance, so I thought I'd start one.Epigraphs for reference What I find most interesting is the effect that the Day of Recreance had on the spren. Can you imagine Kaladin deliberately choosing to kill Syl? (Yes, he did once already, but that was an accident.) The Radiants had to know what was going to happen to their spren. This wasn't just a fancy way for the Radiants to retire. There must have been a specific reason that keeping their oaths would be a problem. What could possibly be worth the death of their spren? Finally, which order didn't participate and went into hiding instead? What happened to them? Are their descendants one of the secret societies that we've seen so far? What do you think?
  4. Catapults would be useless on the Shattered Plains, since you'd have to lug them over the bridges. That said, not all wars were fought on the Shattered Plain. I could see them being too hard to defend against Shardbearers, but the earliest battles that Kaladin fought in had (or at least were supposed to have) no Shardbearers, so that point isn't really valid. As for gunpowder, someone pointed out earlier that we've seen no indication of chemistry or alchemy practice; all their potential chemists study fabrials instead, and you can't use fabrials to create gunpowder.
  5. The correct term (or at least the one Brandon uses) is epigraph, and they are all collected in the Coppermind
  6. Too late, Vin did that already.
  7. I posted this already in the similar thread in the WoR forum, but I thought it belonged here as well. These were the questions that my brother and I asked Brandon when our book was signed: Q: Was Adonalsium shattered intentionally, and if so, was the intention malevolent? A: Yes, and RAFO Q: Is the 17th Shard meant to represent a specific Shardic intent? A: The 17th Shard has a specific purpose, and the name was chosen very deliberately.
  8. I'm planning on being there.
  9. Do Returned use a Breath every 7 days, or every week?
  10. Try "seeded"
  11. At the Huntington Beach signing, Brandon said that Lift and some of the other interlude characters were being "seeded" for the second arc.
  12. My brother and my questions (paraphrased a little), from the same signing: Q: Was Adonalsium shattered intentionally, and if so, was the intention malevolent? A: Yes, and RAFO Q: Is the 17th Shard meant to represent a specific Shardic intent? A: The 17th Shard has a specific purpose, and the name was chosen very deliberately.
  13. Note that these scores are my own personal judgement, and other opinions are welcome. Winner: TomR
  14. I'm willing to help out as well, but I can't promise I'll stay 'till the end of the event. It's a school day for my brother
  15. Either Kaladin or a new character.
  16. Admittedly, I don't know a lot about duels, but I feel like sword duels wouldn't lead to a lot of face bruising. Especially if you're dueling with Shardblades. My guess would be someone returning from a battle. I agree that it's either a female POV (probably Shallan), or Lopen referring to himself, but it could be an interlude. Probably Shallan meeting Adolin for the first time.
  17. Is the sample going to be from something we've seen already, or something new?
  18. Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't bother to carve "Aaargh." He'd just say it.
  19. Three lights blaze. Can they stand against the darkness until the others light?
  20. I agree that the scoring system could use some work. I think that everyone should get one upvote for each correct prediction, and a second upvote for each crazy accurate prediction.
  21. Local bookstores. It's not inherently better for Brandon, but it helps support local bookstores, which are in much more need of support than Brandon is. EDIT: ninja'd by Peter
  22. This looks like fun! 1. The year end Highstorm (the one in the middle of the Weeping) will have plot importance / some connection to the 62 day countdown. 2. We will learn the second oath of the Lightweavers. 3. Talenel will make a reappearance, but only at the climax or during an interlude. 4. The santhid will aid Shallan in some way, and/or get killed for it's gemheart. 5. Amaram will recognize Shallan in some way. 6. Danlan (Adolin's most recent ex) will play an important role. 7. Eshonai will get her chance to talk to the Alethi (probably either Dalinar or someone of Bridge Four). 8. Sadeas will get a voidspren. 9. Adolin is a Skybreaker. 10. Shallan will communicate with a Cryptic (possibly Pattern) in Shadesmar. Bonus: The Parshendi will discover a form for tropical hurricanes, and call it warmstormform. EDIT: fixed #2 so that it actually says what I meant it to say. Also added a bonus.
  23. This rain might just be drizzles after a Highstorm. But my gut tells me it's the Weeping. Bridge Four's tattoos say they were freed in the 9th month of the year, which would put the 62 days right around the time of the Weeping.
  24. Does it ever rain on Roshar besides the Highstorms and the Weeping? If it doesn't, that means that they are fighting either a) during a Highstorm (which seems unlikely), during the Weeping, or c) against stormform Parshendi. If it's during the Weeping, where does that put it on the 62 day countdown?
