  1. Given the circumstances, and the following: 1. Autonomy likes to infiltrate planets and set up avatars, undermining the local shards 2. Autonomy is particularly opposed to mixed shards, and is probably exceptionally bothered by the advent of retribution What would autonomy try on Roshar to take down Retribution? Is there already a good seed religion anywhere for her? Vorinism was Honor’s, the Passions was definitely Odium’s… Purelakers? Could she invest a Reshi Greatshell? It wouldn’t be her first Island, and boldness could align with a value of autonomy. I also could see a freedom cult among the Unoathed.
  2. How will things work under Retribution? I’m guessing Singers will be able to change forms at midnight, fused taking new hosts around the same time. We’ll see how well they can adapt to a world where they won. Fabrials will probably work by the same principles, including soulcasters. Everything reliant upon the new god. I expect Retribution to be a very hard god to live under. Lots of divine judgement. Honor would just withdraw from those who broke with him. Retribution will punish. Probably some very targeted lightning. Outside Urithiru, the Nale’s Skybreakers are probably quite willing to work under Retribution… for now. we might…. Might be able to see a new Nightwatcher Bondsmith. I doubt Retribution would field anything quite so powerful. A bondsmith would be quite dangerous to him.
  3. I wonder how this change is going to affect singers. Do they just have to go out at night to change their forms?
  4. Cold War is a pretty good parallel, given Relations between Elendel and the Malwish. And they’ll need to get their act together with Retribution out there.
  5. I think Mistborn Era 3 is supposed to be early computers, which could translate to early space exploration (rockets, Apollo program, nothing too fancy).
  6. Who knows how long it took for that woman to be able to write that book. She obviously had the chance to meet and eventually marry Szeth, so that’s a fair amount of time for infrastructure to recover.
  7. Given the level of activity in the cognitive realm, I feel like if there is a 4th shard in Roshar it should be Reason. Plus I think that would be a good shard for Jasnah to interact with.
  8. Is the new Blackthorn going to be a physical entity? Or perhaps a sort of Spren/spiritual/cognitive entity? Meanwhile, he’s fully capable of waging war on Roshar if someone else picks the fight. If he can get someone in Narak/the Listener Nation, Azimir or Urithiru to strike first, Retribution will be unleashed.
  9. Or even has her regress a bit. But, I think there’s a case for regression, occasionally being broken, and rebuilding one’s self being an important part of self improvement. Also, given the circumstances, she really needs to learn how to make an Elsegate. Or, she might even run. She’s probably the only one around who can leave Urithiru.
  10. Thank you. So, right on time for SA 6-10 and Mistborn Era 3. This should be great.
  11. I wondered if Kelsier could have used a Cadmium allomancer to sync up the communication… but I doubt that would be practical. Losing time for the sake of avoiding lag is putting the cart before the horse… but I’d be tempted. Remind me of the scale here? How long on Roshar before they get synced?
  12. Dalinar’s stated purpose is to UNITE THEM. Running theme in the book: these shards are divorced from the context that they were meant to give each other. Yes, the combination of Honor and Odium into retribution is a problem. The combination of Ruin and Preservation into Harmony has been a different problem. But, you have to start somewhere. The first step may be a disaster, but you have to take it and then take the next step. Dalinar did more than just get the attention of the other shards. He’s taken the first step in his true purpose: to unite them. Others will be taking the other steps.
  13. So I had a… strong emotional reaction to what Tarevangian/Odium did to Jasnah in Wind and Truth. How, in a very real sense, it broke her. Perhaps not on the same level other characters have been broken. But she is now in the position to rebuild herself. Setting the stage for the next set of books. Based on what little we actually know about the next 5 books, Jasnah gets the flashbacks for book 10 (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/367/#e11620) Which makes me think she’ll get a rematch in that book. I’m calling it round 3, since round 1 was in Kharbronth (tho Adonalsium knows what version of Tarevangian we had that day).
  14. Cried 6 times. 1. Pattern pointing out to Shallan that, statistically, the idea that she kills all her mentors is a fallacy. 2. Adolin coming to terms with his father in the trenches… 3. Kaladin hitting Nale with a flute concert…. 4. Windrunner 5th ideal 5. Renarin’s Eulogy for his father 6. Taln forgave them. was thoroughly infuriated with Todium for what he did to both Jasnah and Dalinar/Gavinor. Very smug about Retribution’s little secret: Dalinar was right. Thrilled with all the instances of words being said. Kaladin’s words were perfect. Szeth skipping an oath actually makes sense to me. In addition to Honor not being around to enforce the rules, it strikes me that people don’t always learn things in strict linear order. Szeth was learning the 5th ideal the entire time. Given that A. Sky breakers were already exceptions to the rules with their oaths, and B. There’s apparently an alternate track out there, there’s clearly a lot more wiggle room than expected. Completely floored by Dalinar’s decision. I’m not saying I disagreed with it, but it definitely threw me for a loop. loved watching Wit applying for a job.
  15. Perhaps the Ghostblood spy in Urithiru is in fact the Sleepless. In fact that makes more sense than anything. I’m not sure that any the crazy herald says is evidence of anything. Just sayin’. It also seems like the Wind is on the same side as Honor. That Odium was the one who suppressed the Wind. So much for the idea of the Shards being Usurpers.
  16. Perhaps an extension of Sja- Anat. One of her Children. Or perhaps the mild mannered Princeling bonded to her child.
  17. More likely imho, Mraize is going to kill someone’s Spren. Possibly one of Shallan’s…. But I wonder if he might hit Rlain’s….. and then Rlain becomes BAN’s bondsmith to Unite the Singers and Listeners.
  18. While I don’t doubt Sja-Anat’s ability to “enlighten” other Spren, her Mist Spren seem to have a particular bond with the Spiritual Realm… they’d probably make better guides for the Ghostbloods.
  19. I find it interesting that Mraize and Iyatil are so confident that the Bondsmiths will find BAM’s prison on the way to Honor’s power (in a place where time and space either have no meaning or far too much). Tying the shame of the Radiants/ the Recreance that the Storm Father refused to talk about in with the Death of Honor. The Stormfather was probably quite relieved when Tarevangian exposed everything in OB. He used it as a screen to hide his real secrets. BAM was able to connect an entire race, performing a feat that usually was done by her god/shard….. what if she got ahold of Honor’s power? Or, perhaps the absence of the vast majority of Honor’s power is what’s actually causing deadeyes.
  20. Syl may know something of the Night…
  21. Can non-Radiant Spren (or even Radiant Spren) express the desire to no longer be an inanimate object? The Spren of Soulcasters are characterized as “non-responsive.” Not a fair question in that something like that can absolutely be written in. It hasn’t yet. perhaps there’s a way a bondsmith could do it… but there’s only 3 bondsmiths. How many fabrials can they administrate? I think the direction this is meant to go is the democratization of power via technology. The current fabrial design doesn’t depend on radiants. I’m not sure the more humane fabrials of the future should, especially such a limited group. That would be devastatingly limiting.
  22. So here’s some questions I have about this. We know Soul Casters are made from Sapient Spren. Are they capable of changing back? Raboniel characterized it as a sacrifice: Is convincing a common Spren to end its existence as a creature to permanently become a device better than capturing the in gemstones? If the Spren can’t change back, it becomes the same problem. It really boils down to: is becoming a fabrial, something capable of using a radiant surge independent of any Nahel Bond, something these Spren can do without sacrificing themselves.
  23. Domesticated Spren… There’s definitely some interesting implications for this. You’d probably end up with a full time job as a Sprenherd. Maintaining a fire for your flame Spren to go to when they’re not working on the heating fabrial… basically, you are transferring half (or perhaps some other ratio) from an open fire to Stormlight… you you may need less fire for the Spren, so the ratio may be more forgiving. Or perhaps you keep Spren Ranches with constant a constant fire, and rubies are charged there. I’m guessing we’re seeing an application of Nohadon’s “Let them leave” philosophy. I’d compare it to free range cattle/chickens (as opposed to the ones kept in industrial farms where they never get out of cages) before saying slavery with extra steps. Quick question: can one replicate the effects of emotional allomancy with emotional spren, the right gemstone, and Brass/Zinc wiring? And what would herding those Spren be like?
  24. I wonder if the Night isn’t seeding something for the future quintet… the return of the Night. We’ll see. and yes, there’s definitely something off with the timeline here… of course, we also now know that the Stormfather hasn’t been completely honest…. And who’s to say whether he relates the memories of the Storm, Wind, Honor, or Tanavast. We’re probably about to find out.
  25. The Wind has been talking to Kaladin. The Storm to Dalinar. The Sibling describes itself as the child of Honor and Cultivation, but it’s also the Legacy of the Stone, and was formed from Stone. The Wind and Storm are not the same. Nor are the Stone and Sibling. The Night and Nightwatcher are wholly separate.
