  1. "What if the Sibling is another one in the gemstone? They were nearly unmade into 10th Unmade, she has a literal heart made out of gems, and I bet she could still bond with a person and grant him something." Sibling is just they/them, and yeah, they could definitely bond if they were made into an Unmade, like, they can already bond when not Unmade. Don't see why it would change at all. It would make sense, we know that the Unmade have a parallel with each Order except Bondsmiths, so it would make sense that the Sibling would have become the Bondsmith analogue. We already have a very clear idea for most of them based on a ton of similarities in essences and Attributes (I am 100% convinced on most of these, and will die on this hill, lol) Windrunners = Ba-Ado-Mishram Skybreakers = Dai-Gonarthis (last one left, and I guess Dai-Gonarthis is about consuming emotions and leaving people numb, and Skybreakers are about numbing themselves to be able to carry out law and justice for the "good of mankind" (even when it often isn't), regardless of their own moral code.) | Iri Dustbringers = Nergaoul | Thalath Edgedancers = Sja-Anat | Makabakam Truthwatchers = Chemoarish (due to being conflated with the Nightwatcher, who looks like a Mistspren in several ways, and is closely associated with Cultivation, who seems to be deeply connected with that side of the chart. One of the ones I am less sure on) | Rishir Lightweavers = Re-Shephir | Alethela Elsecallers = Moelach (Another one I am less sure about, I guess it can be connected to Wise and Careful. Also they are all about travel between Realms, and seeing the past and future is basically that) | Aimia Willshapers = Yelig-nar (It is literally sealed in an Amethyst, and grows Amethyst, it is pretty clear) | Shin Kak Nish (Which has Kak in the name, or Kalak, which is 8, which is Willshapers, this is pretty solid) Stonewards = Ashertmarn | Sela Tales Bondsmiths = | Valhav On the last part, yes, both would have horizontal and vertical symmetry. It just makes more sense to me to not let it be more than the average number of connections.
  2. I don't think they do, as the surges only have 3 connections each, instead of the normal 4. So I don't think they would make it have 4, but they couldn't make them have 3 without ruining symmetry, thus went with 2. Also, it was in The Way of Kings. It was one of the Interior Arts. And on connections, common theories think the Voidbinding glyphs translate into Silver Kingdom names. Maybe Chach is Thalath? Yeah, I found it mentioned on the Glyph Transaltion forum, and they did transliterate it to Thalath (they also noticed the symbol appearing in the Kharbranth artwork before me, so it was noticed before )
  3. I feel Rashek probably could. He didn't say he wasn't capable of that. Just that one with the WoA would be able to, not that it is the minimum amount.
  4. I will explain my idea on this, as I feel bad for my own behavior: When asked, Brandon only said one theoretically could kill a Spren with a Shardblade, this implies one cannot in normal circumstances, not that it can be easily done with one swipe. If that was the case, he wouldn't have answered it like that. When he says theoretically, he does in fact mean theoretically. In many cases when he says it he means it is absurdly complex and requires a lot of special circumstances. Some examples of him using theoretically for rare things The case with the Spren only showed them break apart, which Spren can do without dying. And they never confirmed that it died, they simply asked if it did, and received no answer. So it does not really contradict RoW as it was never explicitly stated that they did manage to kill the Spren. He further establishes not just in RoW but in a WoB We also know that Anti-Light was planned from the start, as it was a major part of the overall narrative, and began to show up very early in the series. He actually mentioned it was core from the start as he felt it would become necessary later. So, I don't see any contradictions in this. The Spren merely dissolved and likely reformed elsewhere. This is just asking a question, not establishing a fact. Therefore, it can be reasonably assumed that their assumption is incorrect. This is further established early in RoW, which explains what happened in a way that fits with everything else we knew before. So, I am of the belief that there was not a retcon in this particular point. He just meant there is a special way to use a Shardblade that could potentially kill a spren, but it just isn't any normal stab or slash with the blade. An alternate theory: I also have an alternate theory of what happened: This establishes the sheer strangeness that they made contact with it and were able to do this, it puts a lot of focus on it being very strange, both of them being confused by it. This could imply something deeper is going on, and that this is not normal. It might have to do with the Son of Tanavast thing with Kaladin. Or it could be that that one Spren he interacted with was something different from normal. The Spren is shown to be Corrupted, and notably strange, which gives credence to the idea that it was something weird with that Spren. Conclusion: Either way, I am of the opinion that it is not a retcon. Unlike things like the Atium retcon (and I don't mind that one, as it actually makes a lot of sense in canon and explains a lot.) You are fine to disagree, but I recommend you don't resort to insulting people for not agreeing with you that it is one. Open aggression and attempts at provocation should be avoided on this forum. For clarity, I am referring to calling us trolls for disagreeing with you, and attempting to provoke us. Such behavior is not acceptable. But simply disagreeing is perfectly acceptable. I apologize again for my behavior. I so do wish to have civil discussions that do not devolve into insults.
  5. Oh, sorry, I meant to put it there. My bad. I know it should be there.
  6. Shardplate is highly Invested, and thus it resists being effected by Invested Arts. So, technically yes, but it would require one to have some very strong steelpushes.
  7. The text for the Cosmere Q&A is outdated Tress is outside of the Spoiler period, and other forum text has been updated to be about Yumi and Frugal. I just wanted to bring to attention that this one still considers Tress to be in the Spoiler period.
  8. I was looking at the image of Kharbranth in TWoK, and found something, there are strange symbols in the corners. Well, they looked very familiar to me: Look at the Dustbringer analogue. They are identical. They are the exact same glyph. There is no way to look at them and say they aren't the same thing. This means that this image, or Kharbranth as a whole, has some connection with that Voidbinding Order. I am so excited to have found this, how have I not noticed this before! Also, another thing, the centre two Orders don't have Surges. and also, the Division and Transportation Surges don't have connections to adjacent Surges, which they have in the Surgebinding chart. Which is intriguing.
  9. Thanks! What are the translations for Voidlight and Honorblades, if that isn't an issue? And the Radiant Oath as well, I am interested to see how they translated the First Ideal. (Again, sorry if I am annoying, translation decisions just fascinate me) Also on this, I love that, as that is exactly what Cultivation meant in the name of the Shard. That fits so perfectly, better than the English. Also, are you saying that Honor and Odium are just not translated? Ah, looking it up, it does seem that they are the same word in Polish. Interesting.
  10. What was the True Desolation translated as? I know Spanish is Auténtica Desolación. But I am curious on what else it would be translated as.
  11. Yeah, that definition is way too wide. It isn't a retcon as it didn't explicitly say that they can kill it, it was quite explicitly framed as a question. Another thing is just that, Stormlight is through the eyes of the characters, there are a lot of things they are wrong about. Like Szeth being very wrong about Surgebinding due to basing it on Honorblades. Or basically everyone was wrong about most of human history on Roshar. That very premise that permeates the Stormlight Archive backs up that the question was indeed not meant as a 100% confirmation, especially when they didn't even say that it did. Even that 2014 WoB implies that it isn't as he put a lot of weight on theoretically, I doubt he would say that if all it took was one stab. When he words things like this, he typically means "It requires very special circumstances". So... yeah, not a Retcon. Things like Atium change are a Retcon, an old one sure; one that fits pretty perfectly with the old text, again, yeah; but still a retcon nonetheless. So this isn't just be denying that he does retcons. I just, find this to not be one.
  12. Brandon has said you could think of what Nightblood is as a God Metal. They are definitely not normal steel anymore after taking in as much Investiture as they did. But are they Edgli's? Probably not.
  13. Vedel and Paliah had Safehands. We don't know about Battar as it is being kept secret until SA5. So, Chana does stick out. Her art was done around the same time as the Nale portrait, the other 2 female Heralds (currently revealed) were by different artists. (As, iirc, it was 2 portraits from each artist irl, but that it also applies to them also sharing an artist in-world. I remember a WoB about that)
  14. It would do the same thing, I don't see why it would be any different. They are still made of the same substance.
  15. Maybe F-Bronze and Lightweaving can have them take out a memory and project it into a hologram? Bondsmith and F-Duralumin would be interesting. Messing with connections even more than before.
  16. As everyone said, I feel you missed the nuance of the ending. It wasn't that "Idris as a state" survived, it was "Idris as a people" survived, that we were supposed to be finding joy in. They survived an attempted mass-scale genocide. I feel it is terrible to say the right thing to happen would be for everyone, men, women, children, and everyone inbetween, to be massacred simply due to the evils of their government. Furthermore, if such a massacre were to occur, so would a new Manywar, which would result in even more deaths. It would be a global conflict with hundreds of thousands of deaths. Like, Idris is still shown as bad, the book doesn't deny that. But killing every single citizen is still bad. It is all far more complicated than you seem to be making it out to be. Kind of uncomfortable you consider genocide to be the morally right decision, as a response to people having a corrupt government, even if it is fictional. (Oh dear, didn't notice how necro this was when typing this, Hatman, try not to necro such old Threads)
  17. Edgedancer with F-Steel and A-Steel, I guess? F-Steel helps an Edgedancer move much faster, and then they can compound it to go even faster, which works well with their own abilities which help them move fast. This has actually been brought up to Brandon, and he said it would let them go at pretty insane speeds, although at some point wind resistance would begin to effect them. Windrunner with F-Iron would also be pretty good, they can use Conservation of Momentum to change their velocity, and they can also increase their mass as they are cashing down into the ground to become like a meteor. Maybe A-Pewter with it to increase their durability so they can survive the crash even better. But that wouldn't really be needed if they have Shardplate. Duralumin would be helpful if Intent can make one apply it to different Invested Arts, so you can make stronger Lashings with higher acceleration.
  18. Yeah, true, thanks. And on that last thing, yeah, that is also true.
  19. Sadeas has 20 Bridge Crews, I am reading WoK right now and it says 20 repeatedly. I say 30 as Brandon has called it 30 repeatedly when describing it. And I did say known, as in, the ones we know the names of. As there most likely is still 10, yeah, given it is implied to have the same origins.
  20. There is a big list of words and glyphs. I also recommend avoiding the Fandom wiki, it is very scarce in information and citation. (Like, "the alethi script" what does that even mean? Which one? There are two primary scripts, one of which (Glyphs) is divided into two main groupings, Normal and Stormwarden, and both are also broken down into 3 different sets of phonemes. It is way more complex than one unified "Alethi script") https://coppermind.net/wiki/Glyphs/Index this has a lot of words. But not all. Notably, it lacks Mashala (aunt) and Mathana (older sister). https://coppermind.net/wiki/Glyphs This page has information on numbers and date names. It is not a fully fledged Conlang, it just has a basic grammar and a collection of words that are used when needed. He doesn't trust himself enough to make a fully fledged one and it be good. So you aren't going to find a massive dictionary of hundreds of words. We just have what we have.
  21. It would probably be a sphere or something. I don't think it would fall as it isn't really a physical thing, it is a point in space where all Three Realms collide, relative to a reference frame. For one to move you have to move the point where they collide, independent of the reference frame, which would be a very impressive feat, I would say. As it would lead to a meaningful change in what locations are being combined. I also don't think gravity would effect them. With how they work, they most definitely could be made mid-air and still work.
  22. @TheFrugalWizard I can corroborate what is said here, yeah, but another note is, if you look at the Table Posters (they are what are used for the Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy images on Coppermind), they are more objective and updated, and include mentions of pure atium. It has been around for a while, even if the explicit mention of the change was more recent. And yeah, you can alloy a God Metal with anything, and what it basically does is it creates a new effect based on a modified form of what you alloy it with, and also makes it so that it uses that Shard's Investiture to power it (as it is all directly from the metal). So, for instance, Malatium (Which is Impure Atium + Gold) is powered by Ruin's Investiture. And creates an new effect combining the traits of Impure Atium and Gold. Pure Atium has an effect where you don't just see shadows, but you actually look straight into the Spiritual Realm and just, flat out see across time as a whole. It is far more expansive and incomprehensible (it also expands your mind to be able to understand it all, much like what Impure Atium does). And on Nicrobursts, I don't necessarily agree it would be too weird for Wax not to have run into one. Mistings are around 1/1000, then a Nicroburst would be 1/16 of that would be 1/16000. Then you have to factor in crime rates, lets just do homicide rates for example. American homicide rates in 1900 were around 30/100000. So lets put the percent at that (so this is assuming 30 murderers per 100000 people), as Wax mostly deals with homicidal criminals. This would make a homicidal Nicroburst around 3/160000000, or 3 in 160,000,000. Lets call this n. Wax was a Lawman for only around 20 years. So he probably only dealt with a few hundred criminals tops. Lets say around 300 as an upper bound. So that would be 1-((1-(n))^300). This comes out at a chance of finding one, after dealing with 300 criminals, to around 5.62498423245...*10^-5 or 0.0000562498%, this would be further complicated by the fact that you have to take into account them finding a criminal partner who is also a Misting, and is neither a Duralumin Gnat or Aluminum Gnat. Lets just say the chances of having a partner are 1/2 (in reality, the odds would be much lower, just assuming solo and teamed are equal odds to give this a higher value), as I don't think I can find records of criminal conspiracy rates in 1900. So 2.812496058 × 10^-6 chance of having a partner within 300 criminals. But to also have that partner be a Misting that is not either of those 2, you would have to take the chance of them being 14 out of 16 (but in reality, this would probably be lower, more like 7/16 or 43.75%, as Tineye, Oracle, Augur, Smoker, Rioter, Soother, or Seeker, wouldn't really help in combat in the way Wax was referring to), which is an easy 87.5%, so 0.000875% when factoring in misting rarity. This should bring the chances of a Nicroburst Misting combo being run into within 300 criminals down to 2.460934481989458 × 10^-6, or 0.00000246093448199%. To give benefit of the doubt, lets up this to 10000. This would still be 0.00008202788%. So, I 100% believe he wouldn't run into such a combo. The chances are extraordinarily low. Even if I made some conversion mistakes in my math, the chance increase would be so miniscule that it wouldn't change my conclusion. And on a Meta level, yeah, it is due to the fact he wants to cover it more in Era 3. And I do recommend that you read the rules. You did nothing severe enough to warrant any Mods punishing you, especially as it was clearly not intentional. But I will note the things you broke so you can improve. Avoid double posting, it is frowned upon unless the gap between messages is very long (as in like, its been over a week) Avoid double forum-making, avoid making multiple forums of the exact same topic. I can tell you just did it due to a typo in the original title, but just try to avoid it next time. Avoid post padding, this is when you add things to a post that make it much longer without adding much substance, the table you added had a lot of empty space that made it very big. If you do have something like this, a way to avoid troubles is to put it in a spoiler tag, you can create on by clicking the little eye next to a face. They are very helpful for condensing big lists or tables. Other then that, you are all good (as far as I am aware), just wanted to point it out for next time.
  23. I wonder what Herald goes to each Silver Kingdom Alethela is Jezrien, due to all the connections with Windrunners and the fact they revere him as the Stormfather (or Taln, who is the Herald of Soldiers, and Alethela is the Kingdom of War, ) Valhav is Vedel, I feel Veden and Vedel are very close. Natanatan, the Natan, might be Talenel? (I mean, his shortened numerical name is Tanat, it is very close) It is also a very rocky place. But it might be Kalak, as the people in New Natanatan equate him with the Stormfather, like the Alethi do to Jezrien. It could also be Nalan, whose name is also close, and he is about law, and New Natanatan is thought of as lawless, which would be an inversion. Shin Kak Nish is probably Ishar, the names are rather closer, and Ishar is the only Shin-looking Herald, iirc. But it has Kak, which is the numerical name of Kalak, so maybe Kalak? "Kelek’s own truth" marks him as notable for honesty, and the Shin love their honesty and hate the Truthless. Makabakam is rough, they do all (except Tashikk and Tukar, ofc) revere Jezrien above the other Heralds, Prime Kadasix, and the one who gave Emuli Sessemelex Dar, etc. So if he doesn't go to Alethela. But could be Taln, as he looks Azish, "Kalak will teach you to cast bronze, if you have forgotten this." can be connected to the Bronze Palace Sela Tales might be Palah? As Panatham? But not too convinced about that. But what about Iri, Aimia, Thalath, and Reshi? Hmmm... any comments on all of this? (unrelated, but I do appreciate all the implications of different calendars in SA, the Unkalaki have a different one, the Makabaki are implied to with the Eighty's War not being in the Eighties in the Vorin calendar, I really respect it. Nice touch of realism) Also, I wonder what Eiliz, Tarma, and Sur are. We know they were Kingdoms, but what is weird, is they existed during the Silver Kingdoms era. Maybe each Silver Kingdom was more like a collection of Kingdoms under one greater king?
  24. So, you know how Veden names include birth order? Well, the order is Nan, Tet, Asha, and Van. Nan is to Nan (2), Tet is to Talat (9), Asha is to Shash (6); and Van is unclear. Maybe Vev (4)? Normally, you would expect it to be lingusitically divergent versions of Jes, Nan, Chach, and Vev. I guess Asha can be a version of Chach, but Tet is definitely from Talat, and Nan is definitely from Nan. So those ones can't be reasoned around without some deeper explanation to the decision. So, this isn't the proper numerical order as per Vorin tradition, which leaves me wondering, what happened to make it get mixed out like this? Maybe the Veden Vorins have different numerical associations? I haven't seen this mentioned or brought up before anywhere, and I am very curious as to what happened to make it not line up like this. Wish I could ask Brandon or his team this, but that isn't exactly easy.
