Why would she lie in her own personal journal entries on the planet? She talks about it as her home several times in the White Sand Ars Arcanum, and shows a complete lack of knowledge of Realmatics. It wouldn't make sense for her to fake such complete and total ignorance in her own personal writings and ponderances. She also displays no knowledge of Feruchemy, just Sand Mastery and Starmarks. I feel she would bring it up if she knew what it was.

Highly doubt it, they are created due to being infused with a fragment of a dead Shard. I don't think they are the direct agents of any Shard.
-
On the Shinovar thing, yeah, you could be totally right. My interpretation was just about a lot of the soil being pushed away and destroyed, razing an area of the land due to like, the Dustbringers and Thunderclasts. I do wonder if Thunderclasts are corrupted versions of the stonespren that the Shin worship. If they are, I bet we would be getting answers in Book 5. Thunderclasts just really interest me as they are so weird and mysterious.

That would make sense, yeah.

Brandon's spoiler stream questions.
Firesong replied to Frustration's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Yeah, this is the reason he and his team are having so much trouble. They are not happy about Reddit's decisions with APIs, and want to have a platform that they have more control over. But at the same time want one that is open enough to the public to easily put up questions. It is a rather complicated situation and they aren't sure what to do. -
Sure, but it doesn't change that the context in which Anxietyspren appear is completely and utterly unrelated to where the trope shows up on every level. These are about worry, the trope is about fury. The connection is very vague and a massive stretch. I would believe it more if they were used for angerspren, but when used for anxietyspren, well, that is a completely different emotion. Thus I oppose this connection due to the fact that it requires more leaps in logic, as it, for one, is based upon the idea that SA is inspired by anime (that covered more in 2 and 2.1) The jump between what emotion they are meant to represent I feel is too broad to be passable without a lot of scrutiny. Again, yes, but it is, once again, a very vague connection. And on the connection with meditation, I know it is still vague, but at least it is directly a concentration exercise, and has connection with where Makabaki countries find their primary inspirations. There are less steps of disconnection. It is simply "this is a thing used for a singular focus that comes from a place on which the place that concentrationspren appear most is based on (based on some WoBs and in-book terminology like Vizier) --> concentration spren show up when people are focused", their hypothesis is "big swords appear in anime ---> Brandon did get the idea from anime (he says otherwise) ---> some powers in anime are depicted with ripples ---> various powers in anime require one to focus to use power ---> Thus concentration is associated with these powers ---> Ripples are associated with concentration ----> Concentrationspren are based on this", it is far more steps of disconnection, even if you try to it is very very vague, and based upon a false premise. (2.1) You can say it has a rate of separation of 5 or 6. While my own has one of 2. On it being a false premise, as I stated in the comment, Brandon has talked about the big swords actually being based more upon western fantasy covers, and on the idea of fantastical entities creating a fantastical imitation of swords without having to deal with normal limitations of practicality and mass. He also also stated repeatedly he only really dabbles in anime and manga, and doesn't consume it all that often. And that Shardblades predate FFVII, which is one thing you could attempt to trace the idea to given him being a fan of the Final Fantasy series. You also would expect Brandon to have mentioned it when asked his inspirations over the decade since WoK came out if anime was a major inspiration. I know argument from absence isn't the best evidence, but I feel it is a valid point in this case due to how many times he has been asked for his inspirations on things like this. I feel you did ignore a bit the way how this isn't really a pattern that holds. Only 2 actually fit the idea, and even those are very vague and require several logical leaps and rely upon an inaccurate assumption to act as their bedrock. I looked through the list of spren (both in my memory and on coppermind), and could not find a continued pattern for this idea, at least not enough to fit with the idea that "spren are based on visual tropes in Japanese animation." My belief on such theories, is that a theory's validity is jeopardized by unfounded assumptions, the more of such assumptions one makes, the less believable the theory becomes as it becomes distorted by each assumption, and this theory is fundamentally based upon an assumption that is not only unfounded, but disproven. Therefore making me question it greatly. It doesn't work from either a Watsonian or Doylist perspective, both of which put the idea into question (Doylist especially puts it into question), in my own opinion. (also, note, not arguing this so heavily due to a dislike of anime. I watch (or rather, watched, haven't done much lately) a lot of anime, and read a lot of manga, I am just arguing as I simply find this theory extremely unlikely due to the

The thing on swords is actually just incorrect, straight up. He talked about his inspiration and it was mostly based on a western fantasy book cover he saw (forgot which one it was), And it was also based on the idea of swords that don't have traditional physical limitations (such as density or practicality), and on the idea of a Spren's fantastical interpretation of the idea of a sword. I can't find the WoB that mentioned the particular cover that really inspired it. It was like, a 80s or 90s fantasy book with a cover of a man holding an overly long sword. Brandon talked about it before but I can't find the WoB for it. I just feel you are making a pretty big logical leap there without much basis. He has actually explicitly said he doesn't really watch much anime or read much manga. He has a few he likes, but really only dabbles in it. He has played FFVII, but he talked about how the idea of Shardblades actually predates it, again, iirc. I don't really see the connection for anxietyspren, the anime trope you are talking about is about anger, and mostly uses red. I also wouldn't call them a cross or twisting, and are associated more with anxiety and worry. So, I feel you are off with that one. Furthermore, why would they think of that as connected with anxiety? It is an idea that purely comes from exaggeration and stylism in a animated medium that does not exist on Roshar. I feel "twisting" implies that they look tightly bound (I imagine them as being like two parts twisting around each other), which would be like, about how anxiety and worry make your chest feel tight. The Concentrationspren one is also a big stretch. I feel thematically it probably has more to do with forms of meditation exercises, where you concentrate on drops of water slowly falling into a still pond, creating ripples. That would make more sense than "anime has some powers shown by ripples, and anime also often makes you need to concentrate to use powers", in my own opinion. It would also fit more in where Stormlight takes inspiration from, that being the ancient and medieval east, middle east, and near-east. This would also fit as they are most common in various parts of Makabak, who takes a lot of inspiration from Persia and the Indian Subcontinent, which would support this inspiration for them. The Musicspren is just a guess I can't find any confirmation on or support for. They don't take the form of any kind of musical notation on Roshar, they take the form of ribbons. They seem to take more inspiration from ideas of dancing to music, as the ribbons are depicted as almost dancing (likely as the spren itself is dancing in the CR). Likely arose from the idea of ribbon-dancing. It is important to note that while Spren are influenced by mankind, they are not completely defined by them. Spren make up their own ecosystem and take on the form of fantastical animals that we only see parts of. Meaning to be completely based on ideas like that, would imply that the entirety of their biology (which people do not see) are based on what people think of them, and a lot of the times it is very abstract, like rainspren being blue-flamed candles that appear to melt, but never get smaller; or anguishspren looking like teeth growing from the wall; or Shockspren looking like yellow triangles breaking apart and reforming.. Others are more literal, like how rotspren appear as small insects due to how corpses attract bugs as they rot, thus they associate insects with rot; or captivityspren looking like taut wires crossing over themselves in front of you; or angerspren being boiling pools of blood (as when one gets angry, it feels as if ones blood increasing in temperature, ergo terms like "hot-blooded" or "blood boiling"); or starspren as little specks of light in the sky. I don't see any pattern of anime-influence beyond the very vague connection between anxietyspren and an anime trope for a different emotion, due to just a vague similarity in shape. The others, I don't see a connection at all, beyond maybe Angerspren, but that is just due to many cultures having the same idea of "anger = hot" due to the fact that it is something everyone experiences. If it was all intentional I would expect more of a pattern to emerge over many spren, and that just is not what one observes. Brainstorm I agree with to an extent, but that was a term that started in America, and spread across the world, not really anything to do with anime. That is why I didn't mention it in support of your theory. It technically does have a history that goes back further, but the early use of it just meant a seizure. Overall, not a big fan of this theory, I just see way to many holes in it from an in-world and meta level.

Read it again, no, it does not. There is no implication they are at the Shattered Plains, and the description only very vaguely matches it. I think they would bring up the distinguishing features of the plains if it was them. I also feel it would be unlikely for the Shin to get ahold of all the Honorblades if they left them in the Plains. They refuse to walk across stone, and that is one big continent of stone that separates them. My theory is that the Honorblades were left in what is now Shinovar, which would explain why the Shin got ahold of them. I also believe they would feel some connection to Shinovar as it is where humanity landed on Roshar, so I feel if they left the Honorblades anywhere, it would be there. But I guess this also assumes that they had the same beliefs of not walking over stone by the time of the Last Desolation.

Lol, they are all rather complicated. Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, and Adolin are all very facinating to look at how many layers of complexity they have and how interwoven the different aspects of their worldview are with their life experiences and other beliefs. I am not sure what you been by calling them not complicated. Unless you refuse to look past the most surface level. All I can go for hours about all their intricacies. Like, I have a 1000 word thing written on Dalinar's personality alone (heavily condensed, btw), and I am still not done with it. (Sorry for snapping back like that, it is just the complexity of the main cast in Stormlight is one of my favorite things about it that keeps me coming back. I feel so much attachment to the characters as they are rather complex and multidimensional)

It could be, but it could also just be due to other Invested Arts not being as noticeable to Jasnah at the moment. And I don't get this interpretation at all, it is very simple, it is about how when she speaks her mind about what she believes and holds to be true, she becomes discriminated against and feared by people who deem her a heretic. I feel you are trying a bit too hard to find a meta-explanation, when the actually in-work meaning is far more obvious and reasonable, and has been shown many times before. Brandon talks about how he doesn't really want the cosmere to be meta, he only really got Meta in Tress and SP3 due to the fact that those were stories that were told to an in-world audience, so it had an in-world explanation. And also, I do feel that she is a rather complicated character, we have a lot of hints towards her deeper psychology through the books, and she is planned to be one of the major characters throughout Books 6-10 (iirc, Brandon said probably the most major character). So she definitely does have a lot of depth. He is just keeping her inner-world very secretive at the moment, mostly giving implications and ideas of how her mind works. I personally find her fascinating as a character.

Hmmm... probably, someone should ask Brandon to try and slip that information in somewhere in SA5 or something so we can canonize it, as I fee the year 0/1 on the calendar is some pretty important information to fill in the timeline.
-
Sadly, those don't help at all. They only show timing of some events that happened during the books.

I have been thinking a bit recently about what exactly year 0 is on the Rosharan calendar (at least the Vorin one). I came to several theories but none of them work, which leaves me confused. It is when the Recreance Happened: No, we know that was around 2000 years ago, so around -830. It is the Hierocracy: No, that was around 673 It is when Honor Died: That was only shortly after the Recreance. I wouldn't call around 1000 years after "shortly". It is when Sadees unified Alethkar: Obviously not given that they said he was 500 years ago, and he was also around the time of the Hierocracy. Something to do with Nohadon: He was Pre-Aharietiam Something to do with the Oldbloods: They are heavily implied to be Pre-Recreance. Given they claimed their authority due to connection to the the Knights Radiant, and didn't like bringing that up after the Recreance due to the reputation of the Knights becoming deeply soured. So it implies they held authority before it. The Kholin Unification: Obviously not for reasons too obvious to mention. Something with BAM: BAM was sealed away in the False Desolation, which was before the Recreance Fall of the Silver Kingdoms: They were at least very fragile after Aharietiam and the start of the Era of Solitude, and are implied to have been a thing until the Recreance. But I just don't believe they would continue even further to year 0 The Expulsion: As shown by everything else mentioned, this is way before year 0. Those are the 10 that I could think of (yes, I did 10 on purpose). Anything you all can think of that could explain what is used as year 0? Maybe it is some historical event or myth that we don't know yet. I am very curious about this, as it is always very interesting to see what different cultures see as their first year, and what they base that upon.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. (And on Sadees, I think he was just a genocidal freak. Even the Thrill wouldn't make one do such an organized genocide unless they already had it in them. The Thrill is really only about uncontrolled rage by magnifying ones own murderous rage. Thus it tends to be far less organized and intentional). Yeah, makes sense if the Oldbloods were before the Recreance. Unrelated, but I wonder what the story is behind that one part of Jah Keved that goes past the river that acts as the border through most of the nations. It just has this sudden Veden bulge in the Ruthar princedom. Land lost during the Alethi-Veden Border Conflicts of the 1150s? This I feel implies that either that it was important enough land for Jah Keved to put a lot of force to break through defensive lines, or that it was not important enough for them to station a lot of troops at, which allowed the defensive line to be easily broken by a decisive strike.

The thing is, the source for that claim is this artwork.

I am trying to make a list of the kings of Alethkar, Oldbloods I assume were Pre-Aharietiam due to the fact that (iirc) Sadees was the first king to truly unite Alethkar after it split apart after Aharietiam (may be wrong there, might be mistaking it for Gavilar being the first king to unify Alethkar Post-Sadees). But they are at least definitely Pre-Heirocracy. I forgot how long the Heirocracy lasted, but I know it at least started around 673. Maybe the government they overthrow was the Oldbloods (if I am wrong of Sadees being the first Post-Aharietiam king). Coming here to find people who could help find more information to make a more accurate list/timeline. Or correct any mistakes in my logic.

I have a few basic ideas: Alternate Odium (Passion. As my interpretation of Odium is that it is about all emotions, but the hatred was just so overwhelming, as hatred tends to consume all other emotions. This mixed with Rayse being an awful person I feel is what led to Odium becoming overpowered by the hatred aspect. As like, we do see Dalinar seeing the Shard itself, and it did include far more than just hatred), maybe make it Whimsy + Passion Dominion + Honor or Dominion + Honor + Ambition or even Dominion + Honor + Ambition + Passion (all three work with what I have planned, I feel the third works the best for my idea.) Which one do you think I should do first? I do actually have ideas for magic systems for these. And I will be doing both, just asking to see which one I should do first.

But the Platespren we have seen so far take on the colours associated with their Order. Windspren for Windrunners, for example. As the Plate is the Order Colour, and they make up the Plate. Joyspren are blue, and Willshapers are purple. Fearspren fit that. But they don't really have much connection to LIghtspren.

I know what it means, that is why I am saying it is incorrect. She does believe in Shards, she doesn't believe in gods. Ashardic is inaccurate as that implies she rejects the existence of Shards. Please, actually pay attention to what people are saying before you get on your high horse. I am getting tired of this conversation, anyway. Debate is not entertaining when the other side is not properly engaging. So さよなら and all that. Have a lovely day.

Change the name to include spoiler warning for SA5 Preview.

So you are even ignoring what I am saying, "she doesn't think of them as gods" is what I said. We only have seen her use the term once, in a way that is most likely hyperbole given everything else we see of her worldview. Also, dictionary definitions do not work when trying to describe the intricacies of ideology and worldview. Dictionaries serve more as a guideline, and must not be seen as absolute law, to do so is to fall into the fallacy of prescriptivism, which is an anti-linguistic viewpoint that rejects the observable reality of language. Ashardic makes less sense than Atheistic. As she believes in Shards, but not gods.
-
She doesn't think they deserve or require worship, though. She just admits that they have more power than a human, as that is objectively true in the cosmere. But she rejects that they are true divinities, and rejects that they are deserving of worship. So I still feel it is still accurate to call her an atheist. I feel you are just projecting how you feel about Shards onto her.

I made a list for you to be able to copy and delete all the ones already done so we know which ones are left. This includes Compounders. First element in the set is Allomantic, second is Feruchemical. I divided them up into groups based on the Allomantic metal in the pair. To show one is already done, bold the pair. This can be updated over time. Also, make sure to put in in a spoiler, as it is big and we don't want to make a text wall. Also, I did the math, and if you want to know how many different Allomancy-Feruchemy combinations are, if you include all Mistings and Ferrings, and also include Mistborn and Fullborn, it comes to 323 (technically 324, but that last one is a normal person without Feruchemy or Allomancy).

Time travel to the past, Distance in the different realms, Bendalloy and Chromium
Firesong replied to Metraton's question in Cosmere Q&A
Oh yeah, that did happen. Thanks for reminding me. It does make sense, it is pretty consistently shown that physical changes to the world don't really change the Cognitive Realm. Not instantly, at least. It would effect it over time if you leave it for like, a few months. But that wouldn't happen the other way around. I am 99% sure it was confirmed that Mental effects can bypass realms. I remember some SA stuff with emotional allomancy-esque effects permeating both realms. But Physical, it doesn't.
