  1. Oh, I thought it was a joke, my own bad on that. But still though, what was up with those covers? It wasn't just a general Chinese copy issue, as other Chinese editions of his books got it right, it was just that one run of them.
  2. On Adien, he also said that he isn't happy with how he did Adien due to how poorly handled his autism was, as he only really knew Autistic people from TV and such. He has since written far better done autistic characters (via more research and also having a few close friends that are autistic), which let him understand it far more. He plans to deal with Adien far better in Elantris 2 with his increased understanding of how to write such characters. (and as an autistic gal, I really appreciate his care) Also, the way you misspelled Sanderson's name reminded me of the 2021 Mainland China Mistborn covers. Which called him Senderson, for some reason.
  3. I second was Frustration said, the previews were nothing substantial. For instance, the one you noted was mostly just a conversation (I won't go into details as I respect your choice to avoid spoilers, but it wasn't too spoilerly). Not gonna elaborate, but one preview interestingly did have spoilers but he actively cut them out, which I find such a tease. I will agree with you that it is problematic to post threads on SA5 content without warning, though. That thread did annoy me a bit even though I already read the scene. (Edit: Everything but the prologue, that one I recommend avoiding.)
  4. You are objectively wrong there, there was no perpetual motion machine present in Yumi. There was a machine with a large energy source, but to say it is a PMM is to flat out ignore the statements of the text. I feel you are, by looking at this thread as a whole, very obsessed with finding a PMM to such a degree that you are kind-of just creating headcanons. Like saying that Conservation of Energy doesn't apply to Investiture, which is blatantly untrue. What is true is that Investiture can be pulled into a system to give it power, but that just creates a larger system. Everything stated here still holds with Investiture. You are simply making a mistake of considering a machine connected to an external power source to be an isolated system, which it is not. It is powered by the Splinters of Virtuosity, without those Splinters, it shut down, which supports the idea that it is not a PMM as it requires draining that energy in order to function. Think of it like this, is a house powered by a nuclear power plant a PMM for being able to run for a very long amount of time as it uses up radioactive elements at the plant? It wouldn't be (and not just due to not being perpetual), due to the fact that the energy is taken from an outside source, that being the plant. A PPM is a machine that: This explicitly does not apply to the Father Machine, which has an energy source that it relies upon, and without that energy source, it would cease to function. A true PPM would not rely upon an energy source like that, they are like batteries, but made out of the fragments of a dead god. So, I hold that the Father Machine is not a PPM. It is just a machine with a stupidly massive power source. In fact, I hold that a true PPM cannot exist in the cosmere, due to a few principles. We see that both are followed in the cosmere. We see that Matter, Energy, and Investiture all exist in this tripartite system, none can be created or destroyed, but can be converted between one another. This is held to quite perfectly, all cases where we see matter and energy be created, they are created from Investiture. The second, we see that Investiture tends to flow from places of high concentration/energy, to ones of lower concentration. This is why the Dor flows out so forcefully, this is how some systems of sealing Spren in Fabrials works, this is why basically everyone leaks Investiture, etc. The thing is that complexities arise when one adds in a connection to the Spiritual Realm. But this still does not entirely break them, as that is just an expansion of the system. The Spiritual Realm, and Investiture, becomes another power source. A machine linked to this external force, which acts due to connection to it (or to massive splinters of Investiture like the Hijo) is not a PMM, even if it could last forever, as it is being supplied energy. Also... Looking into a work with the sole purpose of finding evidence to a preconceived theory, or trying to find evidence of the possibility of an idea, tends to bias people into seeing things that are not truly there. I feel this is what you are going through at the moment. You are even, as I pointed to before, making up disproven headcanons in order to try and justify it "Breaths do not drain" (they have been shown to be used up and drain many, many times before. For example, the Tablet that Fort uses, it is a Nalthian Awakened Device, yet it does not have infinite power, it must be periodically charged in the sun (likely taking power from AisDa), if Breath provided literally infinite energy, then it wouldn't need to charge like that. We also see that ones Breaths actually grow fainter as one grows older, and most Awakened objects eventually run out of energy and stop functioning. Another another thing, we see that people with Breaths leak out the Breaths slowly over time, much like Radiants leak Stormlight. If what you claimed was true, they would be constantly leaking out an infinite amount of Investiture, as it does eventually run out, so if it was infinite, it would be leaking out an infinite amount.), "Investiture doesn't follow conservation of energy" (again, it does, and does so pretty consistently, you just are mistaken on what the conservation of energy applies to). As an addition, I am not really a fan of the idea of trying to find PMM in the cosmere. With how hard Brandon has been trying to avoid such things, trying to find explanations as to why they would not be able to arise. It feels in very bad faith to try so hard to find how he failed in his endeavors, and feels mean spirited and almost malicious. Trying so hard to undermine his efforts just puts a really bad taste in my mouth. I also don't even see why you want to find that out anyway, it seems like finding out such a system would just suck a lot of enjoyment out of the work. Makes everyone in-world seem stupid and makes a lot of problems become like idiot-plots of sorts, where the issue only exists due to their stupidity in not finding out this system for infinite energy. It would just make a lot of things feel so rubbish. PS: Sorry if this comes across as angry, I am just very passionate about cosmere, and this topic is basically trying to poke holes in one of my favorite parts of the verse, the ways in which Investiture reflects the Laws of Thermodynamics. It is something I love very dearly about the verse.
  5. Yeah, it doesn't work like that and I am confused by their math. It is them pulling themselves with gravitational acceleration in a direction that isn't the planet (If Khriss is right, this does it by Spiritual Realm shenanigans confusing your body on where it should be pulled). We see limitations to their velocity due to them facing drag and terminal velocity and such, they can reduce it a bit with their magic, but they still are limited. This isn't due to it just being a velocity increase, it is just due to acceleration in the atmosphere having limits. Also, one addition to OP, it is not vector addition to the force of the planet. So 1 full basic lashing upward pulls you upward at 1g<subscript>g</subscript>. Partial basic lashings do not completely cancel it out, and do work by vector addition, in a sense, that is why a half-lashing makes you weightless and a quarter-lashing halves your weight. A half-lashing cancels out half of gravity, for instance, it makes you rise at the same rate you are being pushed down. strength of gravity is (1 - (2*l)) where l is how many lashings there are. This makes it so 0.5 is weightlessness and 0.25 is half, like what the book says. This actually makes it so that the accelerations (expressed in g), equal to 1 - 2l. So 1 is 1g, 2 is 3g, 3 is 5g, 4 is 7g, and so forth. (The results are negative, but that is due to it being in the opposite direction of the gravity of the planet)
  6. If you look into the hierarchies within hierarchies of Roshar, the dahn and nahn, you can see control via lower classes not being granted the right to travel, or the right to own land. Lower ranking darkeyed men are forced to be conscripted into the military, with only higher ranking darkeyes having immunity to the draft. There is also the fact that Darkeyes cannot leave the nahn system unless they gain a shard, which is essentially impossible. The Lighteyed and Darkeyed pages on Coppermind are not complete, but have a lot of information and citations. So it can help you get information, and find places in the book for further research into the class systems.
  7. Jasnah's form of atheism is rejecting that there is a God. She fully accepts that god-like beings exist, just not an omnipotent God of everything. She also likely wouldn't worship it if one did turn out to exist. This comes from a WoB, but it is also supported in-work by her not trying to be like "nope, Odium is not real, lalalalalala". She is a scholar, she looks at what evidence she can find and comes to conclusions from that, and her conclusion is, Hoid is something more than a human. And also, as Nameless said, could just be hyperbole.
  8. I will say, that you have interpreted a lot of it correctly. One reason that Investiture wants to escape so much is that Investiture follows the Second Law of Thermodynamics, it doesn't like being densely compacted into one volume, and seeks to flow from a place of higher concentration to lower concentration in an attempt to equalize. This is also why when people get really Invested they tend to start glowing, as the human body is not a perfect vessel for Investiture, and thus it leaks out to try to equalize. AonDor, for instance, creates a hole into the Cognitive Realm that lets Dor flow out, influenced by various factor to manifest as specific phenomena. I will also say, Intent is very important in all systems of Invested Arts, not just in Dor-centric ones. The main influences of the Dor being in the Cognitive Realm is in the fact that it is location-centric, it weakens as you move away from it and eventually just peters out completely. The shape of the land having importance is directly tied to this. On the Beyond, we don't really know and never will. Brandon actively says he won't say if it is the afterlife, or simply oblivion. He wants to allow fans and in-universe characters to think what they want on if an afterlife exists or not, and not be canonically wrong about that. So if you want to think it is the afterlife, you aren't canonically wrong. On someone taking up the Dor as a Shard, yeah, I also believe that that would happen, for some reasons that are spoilers. But it likely won't be Raoden. Brandon has talked about how he plans for Elantris 2 to focus on Kaise and Aiden and such, and we know basically nothing on Elantris 3. It seems in general the focus is shifting away from him as his story is basically done. A non-spoiler reason is just, he talked about how the Elantris Trilogy will be one of the three primary pillars of the Cosmere alongside Mistborn and Stormlight, so something very big is going to be happening in books 2 and 3 to make it important for the cosmere as a whole. (also, if you want to refer to them individually, the Vessels for Dominion and Devotion were both she/her, despite what the fanart implies. We used to think Dominion was a dude just due to assumptions, Brandon corrected that assumption.) And yes, we do know who that Shard is, and you are right to be very worried. Won't say anything more due to spoilers.
  9. I feel that she was just named after Shallash to foreshadow her becoming a Lightweaver. A lot of people are named after Heralds, Kaladin and Ishikk, for examples. I do recall that there is a WoB that confirms Shallan is named after Shallash, though. I don't think Shallash and Chana are gonna be that closely related. Given how differently they look. Chana is fairly light-skinned (not Caucasian levels, but lighter than Alethi), and Jezrien lookes Alethi. Yet Shallash looks Azish, and the Azish are darker than the Alethi. So I find that unlikely if you look at the Punnett Square for it all. It might have either been Lin's decision, or Shallash and Chana were close and she was naming her after her old friend.
  10. Hope I can someday be worthy of being sad to have a legacy here, lol. The "mistress of the relationships and personality section" or something. : )
  11. That does actually make a lot of sense, yeah. It would be an effective platform for that, I guess.
  12. I feel this is enough, it is talking about there being another justification for the Recreance beyond learning about the truth of the First Desolation. Should be good enough to add to the page.
  13. Just give it a few days and people should have the important things transcribed. It has only been a day, give it time.
  14. Yeah, that was a bunch of huge reveals about dragons. Can't wait until all the weirder stuff is fully canonized in-book. Also, we learned what Tamu Keks are! And yeah, I like that we have a reveal of the name of Era 3, giving us more info on what it is going to be about. So, it is going to focus a lot more on Kelsier, Ghostbloods, and Autonomy, to the extent that the trilogy is centred around the Ghostbloods.
  15. Okay, another question, what chapter was it in RoW where they discovered that there were more reasons for the Recreance besides learning about the truth of their foes and Ashyn? I need that chapter to give a citation. I can't find it on the summary. Outside of that one epigraph that implies something, but I remember it was also mentioned in the main book, around the end.
  16. While I would agree in part, due to this But I have to bring up the WoB mentioned before, where Brandon confirmed Cultivation fought alongside Honor. What it might be, is that she did that, but in the end finished him off as he was going mad like Leras, so she was the one that did the final blow after the Recreance.
  17. My belief now is that Frost is a Dawnshard now (based on some WoBs), and thats what that meant. But we shouldn't get too much into theorizing and spoilers here. Wrong place for that.
  18. I am very confused by the dragonic reproduction cycle now. Apparently they give birth as humans and live as humans until puberty, it seems? That definitely needs to be put on Arcanum as that seems very important to include on Coppermind.
  19. Wait, another thing I feel supports Shallan being the daughter of Chanarach. She is named after Shalash and is in the Order of Lightweavers, whose patron is Shalash. If you look at what book goes to which order, the Shalash book would be the Dustbringer book, and Chanarach is the patron of Dustbringers. This would mean nothing, but when you put in all the other evidence I listed on this forum, it does seem to have some deeper meaning to it that Shalash in particular is associated with Dustbringers in the book order.
  20. Physical Copy and the Summary pages on Coppermind.
  21. Thank you, I needed it for a citation. Much appreciated.
  22. I feel that the metal one is likely to change in specifics, but still be kept in terms of producing metal. What metal though, I do not know. The furry one definitely is gonna change as we already have the flesh one with Crimson. But yeah, I can see Midnight fitting with Betab to a degree, we do see that the Spren of Betab are pure black and all. But I am not sure. I like the idea of it being one of the 2 outside of the pattern, it just makes more sense to me. As it was pretty special in AoN as well. Not gonna mention the other special one in there, though.
  23. I need to find a passage from somewhere in Oathbringer or Rhythm of War, I believe, to use for a citation. As I am struggling to find it. There was some scene where Renarin was being mocked for not living up to the traditional masculine ideals forced upon him by society, which pissed Dalinar off enough that he went to a meeting with him to give him solidarity and such. I am like, 99% sure it was somewhere in RoW.
  24. So, we know that Aethers have a correlation with essences due to a recent WoB. And I was wondering what goes to what, and what we can predict about unrevealed Aethers. So I was left curious on how exactly they would all map out. Roseite: Roseite obviously is Vev; Quartz, Glass, and Crystal. As it forms crystals Zephyr: Zephyr is even more obviously Jes; which correlates with Air and Zephyr. And it releases bursts of air. Furthermore, it can also be associated with the body focus of Inhalation, as Brandon talked about it being breathable and used as a source of oxygen. Verdant: Verdant is Palah, which correlates with wood, plants, and moss. And it produces vines. Sunlight: Sunlight is obviously Chach, associated with fire and light. This aether produces light and heat. Crimson: Brandon said it is coral-esque, meant to be organic material. This would be Ishi, which is meat and flesh. Midnight: This doesn't directly correlate with any Essences, thus it likely fits into the two special aethers which don't fit the pattern. From this, we can expand. Metal: A metal aether that is associated with Kak, whose soulcasting property is Metal. This can easily create metal for tools, vehicles, or armour. This actually is one of the aethers that showed up in AoN, but I won't expand too much on that as this isn't the right channel for that, just wanted to bring it up as evidence. Stone: One that is with Tanat, and produces stone or bone. That would easily create stone spikes or platforms, or create armour from stone. These two I can easily think of ideas for, but not sure what to do with these ones. Shash: Blood and non-oil liquid. Maybe creates tendrils of blood, like the Kagune in Tokyo Ghoul or blood weapons in a bunch of anime? That's the best I got. Nan: Opaque Gas, smoke, and fog. Betab: Oil These ones, as I said, I can't think of a logical thing that they can do. I would say production of water for Shash, as it isn't an oil. But that doesn't make much sense. as it requires water to function, making water wouldn't make sense. He did say it isn't very strictly one-to-one.
  25. It is Atium. You didn't include God Metals on the list so you missed it. We will also likely get a lot of the neat ones in Era 3, Brandon talked a lot about how he has a lot of interesting twinborn combos planned for Era 3. The ones he did in Era 2 were purposely on the more tame side.
