  1. Thanks, I didn't think of that, added. I also added a quick thing for Scadrial.
  2. Yup, I edited it to include the 9s. and thanks for the added info on 5s, I knew there were a lot more. And Lumar is more Aethers in general. I am also adding Scadrial and 16 soon.
  3. Yeah, I'll add the Fused.
  4. Roshar: Taldain: Nalthis: Komashi: Scadrial: Sel: Lumar: Drominad: Threnody: Cosmere-Wide: Will be extending this over time, I am just trying to find a bunch of different instances of important numbers showing up. (I plan to ask this to get moved to general Cosmere discussion once the rule against Yumi content outside of here ends). This is what I was able to think of off the top of my head, it would help if people can give more examples in the responses to help expand this.
  5. On that, they do wear it when it gets overly cold, yes. It isn't that they avoid it or don't have the tech for it. They do wear it when it is needed for protection. Also, most live in the tropics so it is usually rather warm. And on the metal, it is very different from how Uranium and such works, the metal isn't normal radiation, it just turns itself directly into heat. So it is a very different situation, because, yes, it would be a lot shorter if it was normal radiation like Uranium. But Trillions is definitely a bit too much, yeah. Maybe Hemalurgic effect would be somewhat like what happened to Parshmen? Like, it really screws up your your emotions and connection to others. But probably not as extreme in the effects on ones ability to understand their surroundings. But enough that it leaves one emotionally numb and can steal their Connection.
  6. Of course they could use Wood's Metal, but as you said, it doesn't fit as Wood didn't exist in the cosmere, so it wouldn't make much sense. And yeah, I guess it fits with beauty. It still communicates the same idea, even if tangentially. I wonder, what are the names for different Shards in Polish?
  7. I have included a test page for it on a user page, so people can see it and see what they think of the idea. https://coppermind.net/wiki/User:Firesong/Translations_page If it gets too long, well, the LotR wiki I am basing this idea on has the table be collapsible so it doesn't make the page too long unless you expand it.
  8. Thanks, this was very interesting to read. And yeah, I knew about the Polish Warbreaker, which was the exact opposite of the intended meaning, and they made Vasher look like some weird edgy vampire from an emo or death metal band, and made Nightblood into some weird Buster Sword thing. It was awful to a comedic degree. But the new name and cover are rather accurate, yeah. Although Vasher is lighter than the book describes, but that is an issue with basically all Cosmere covers (especially Stormlight ones). Makes sense to not have a word for Bendalloy, it is such an obscure alloy the first thing that comes up is Coppermind before the Wikipedia page on it. Though I feel it makes more sense to translate as Cadmium's Alloy, but Bismuth does make up most of the metal, so it isn't inaccurate at all. Is there some cultural thing with Poranna Rosa that doesn't make sense to English speakers? Or was it just a weird decision.
  9. Hey, I want to see to foreign users who have read the foreign translations of cosmere books on the words used for different concepts throughout the book. Such as like, Stormlight. I only know the Spanish is Luz tormenta. But I don't know what it is in other languages. I am especially curious about this due to how some languages really mistranslate things, like how German translated Edgedancers into Dancers of the Abyss. Which sounds epic and like something about of some cool dark fantasy, but it is very far from the intended meaning of the name. I am mostly looking for translations of stormlight right now, but I will accept anything, it is interesting to learn.
  10. Essentially, yeah to all of this. While Tien 100% would have stayed a bit longer than like, Lirin would. It would have only been a few minutes more. Eshonai and are very special circumstances, with the latter being very, very, very special.
  11. It isn't any big deal, it still fits due to the eternal storms, one of which does indeed use the glyph for Eternity (the Everstorm, ofc) But yeah, I like it.
  12. I like it. I like how you used glyphs all around it, but I would recommend one thing, using Thaylen Script for the Frostlands and Thaylenah. Think that would be a nice extra detail. But I do have a question, where did you hear it is supposed to look like an infinity symbol? From everything I know, it is a 2-D cross section of a 4-D Julia Set; and was meant to look a bit like a storm. Not like a lemniscate.
  13. That... just isn't how it works. Cognitive Shadows are way more complicated and deal with those that have anchored themselves to the CR so that they do not pass on into the Beyond until they will themselves to. Eshonai was able to stay as the Stormfather actively held her back for the short journey over the continent. It wasn't solely from her own Investiture. And we see that once he stopped holding her back, she faded almost instantly. And she was more Invested than Tien would have been, being both Stormform and an Elsecaller. She also did swear one Oath, it was just only one. So, I do feel you are misunderstanding what Cognitive Shadows are and how they function. But it is an understandable mistake.
  14. I really doubt he was Invested enough to flat out become a Cognitive Shadow. Look at Eshonai, for instance. She was a Stormform Willshaper, and still didn't become a Cognitive Shadow. You need a lot of Investiture for that, the amount that Tien would have had would just have been enough to slightly prolong it, but not for like, 7 standard years. Brandon has even mentioned he wasn't even a full-on Lightweaver, he only really swore one Oath. He has also implied a few times he has passed into the Beyond. And also, yeah, I kind of hate the idea as well (for the reasons you mentioned), due to the fact it would undermine a lot of Kaladin's development and arc, and in his relationship with his family.
  15. I have a suggestion on something for various pages, and want to see how much people agree. What about adding a list of official translations for terms, situated in a table near the bottom, like what they have on the LotR Wiki. Like on the Stormlight page we would be like Spanish | Luz tormentosa Would be a neat way to show how other languages translate terms, it is always so fascinating. If not, I at least think it is a good idea to do it for translations of book titles, due to how they sometimes have completely different titles in different languages. Especially German and Japanese versions. So like: French | La Voie des Rois Polish | Droga Krolow etc and for the versions split into several books with different titles, we can spit it into a subtable of sorts.
  16. New one: @Starwatcher@LadyLameness 99.159.31.38 (wish it was possible to report people easier on the wiki itself, would make calling attention to it faster.) Also, can somebody try talking to 31.188.222.83‎? They don't seem like a troll at all, they just seem to not fully understand the wiki. Putting spoiler information on spoiler redirect pages, or replacing uses of Nightblood with "Szeth's sword-nimi."
  17. No biggie, I do agree with you. But I am also inclined to think it was partially intentional, but it wasn't a really big thing. We do see that the furthest point east they go in the main part of the book is progressively getting more western, but that moreso comes from them moving further and further from the base of operations over time. Which manifests as moving westward as they are about as far east as they can be at the start of the series. The similarity to the movement of a highstorm though, that I feel is most likely a coincidence, if it was meant to reflect that I feel it would go much further in that direction than it does. (had to edit. used east where I meant west once.)
  18. While I agree it is probably coincidence, both the Shallan/Adolin and Dalinar/Jasnah were in the Makabak region in the east (Dalinar and Jasnah in Emul and Tukar, Shallan and Adolin in the southern region of the CR Sea of Souls (specifically on the banks of the sea that makes up Tukar's CR). So it wasn't just Urithiru, that was just the Kaladin/Navani plotpoint setting. We know Kaladin/Szeth is going to be Shinovar, and while I don't have too much evidence of this, I do think that the Dalinar and Shallan plotlines would be in Iri. It just makes sense to me as being where BAM is held.
  19. I highly, highly, highly, highly doubt this for several reasons. 1: We have no indication he is any older than he looks, and in fact he is definitely younger than 74, so we have no physical indication of him taking up a Dawnshard long ago. 2: He can harm people, he just avoids it due to cultural reasons, as the books state; we see him kill a man in Oathbringer, and most of his pain and guilt comes from feeling that he betrayed his people. Also, as far as we know, the limitation of not being able to harm people mostly comes from Hoid's own Dawnshard, meaning that this theory would suggest Rock has Hoid's Dawnshard, which implies a lot of unlikely circumstances, I feel. I also feel he would have mentioned Rock being a Dawnshard in one of his open and honest talks with Kaladin. At least some brief mention. 3: The rock he was named after was just a random rock that looked pretty due to the water patterns on it. I highly doubt that it is anything all that special. Brandon actually corrobarates this, I feel, as he describes the deeper meaning of what his name means. So, I just don't think he was every a Dawnshard.
  20. Hmm... not too sure as it just seems like some random guy saying he wants it, rather than something actually plausible. And I think that the cosmere would work better with those like, large 18+ sets that have a bunch of pieces and are very detailed (I have no clue why they are 18+, as they are definitely not 18+ in content. just more adult targeted, so I guess they just label it as that to mark the target audience, even if the content isn't that bad. Some are literally like, Mario and Sonic sets). It would allow like, more pieces and bigger set pieces, I guess. But I guess I am judging by a low-budget attempt to show their idea with already-existent pieces, instead of being an accurate depiction of what it would be like.
  21. I do hope we still get it all confirmed in the books still, not a fan of using the RPG as a source of information, as it is basically a non-canon system that is going to have a lot of inaccuracies in how powers and everything work to make it work better as a game and such. You know? But I doubt he won't also include it all in the books. The last two Fused Brands he is at least going to include. Highly doubt he wouldn't include armour spren either, although that is going to be a lot slower. Half-Shards I am a bit more concerned about.
  22. Further evidence for why we know it is after, even ignoring the WoBs, Vivenna appears in Oathbringer. She is Azure. Nightblood also mentioned her name several times.
  23. I think they are joking, as that is actually a quote from a popular meme. It is usually used as a massive hyperbole for something that only is slightly disappointing.
  24. Totally true, yeah. You can't just generalize these things.
  25. Yeah, Roshar is really only able to survive via building settlements in areas protected by storms, laits and breakwalls and mountainsides, and still tend to not have the most pleasant time. Earth has no such need to carefully choose places resistant to storms, thus we would not deal as well. But as you said, modern steel infrastructure would also be able to resist it more than most Rosharan buildings. But very tall buildings would not deal with it as well, as the taller they get, the more such gale-force winds would effect them. Heck, even normal wind velocities are rather strong near the tops of very tall skyscrapers, to the extent that it actually requires some pretty impressive engineering to make it stay stiff and firm, and not bend or snap under the winds. It is one of several reasons that skyscrapers aren't build even higher, it just gets harder and harder the higher you get (but ofc, there are many, many more reasons, but this is one of them) Overall, yeah, we wouldn't do too swell. And Roshar would not be able to reach our type of cities, or our freedom in where we can build settlements, unless something happens to the Highstorm. Which I bet it will given something is gonna happen with Honor and such, and we know Roshar is likely going to be very important in Era 4, and I doubt they would be able to reach the space age if they have to keep themselves limited to specific geographic areas.
