I could easily see the Southern Scadrians, being the ones with full access to the source of Ettmetal, likely from Harmony's Perpendicularity like Atium from Ruin's, would use the Mechanical Metallic Arts much more extensively while the Northern Scadrians, having little to no access to it, would develop more conventional technology first before they gain stable access to Ettmetal.

Bands of Mourning, Chapter 29
-
I think that might work, since we know some Rosharan species have become sentient, perhaps sapient, thanks to bonding to Spren. Ryshadium are smarter than an average horse thanks to their bonding a Spren, they choose their own riders, and they might not even have Gemhearts. Tai-Na and other island sized Greatshells are implied to be sentient enough to help people in need, such as the Tai-Na somehow saving Rysn from falling to death and the Santhid that Shallan drew a picture of helping her to shore after she Soulcasted the ship into water. Although Mistwraith's have been described as having some kind of 'Cognitive Blockage', which is the main cause of their state. Perhaps this might lead to them being unbondable by Spren? Or maybe not even being perceived by Spren?

There was a Venli interlude during Oathbringer that showed the process, 'giving up the body' with Intent was necessary. A Singer must be willing to accept the Fused. It's shown in Oathbringer Interlude I-6. As for Raboniel, I personally think it was probably a bluff, I doubt many mothers with a child would willingly give up her life so easily, but she knew that Kal was a Windrunner and couldn't take the chance that she wasn't bluffing. I have not the slightest clue what you mean by 'Similar to Kaladin', he has nothing in common with a Mistwraith. The main issue would be whether or not Mistwraiths even have the mental capacity to have the Intent to allow a Fused to take them over. There's a WOB about if Aviar can Worldhop on their own, the issue is that they'd need Intent to go through a Perpendicularity, which since they're animals they may not have. If a Mistwraith, a barely sentient animal, can have enough complex thoughts of 'Let this weird spirit into my body', then yes they can be taken over. I wouldn't bet on it though.
-
I'd say no, if only because it seems the Singers need to Intentionally give their bodies up to a Fused. The Mistwraiths are barely sentient, more animals than human, so it would be unlikely they'd have enough Intent to do so. A Kandra might be able to, but then we run into the issue of whether a Fused can even take over a non-singer body. So I'd say no to Mistwraiths cause they're too dumb, maybe to Kandra but that runs into other issues. Not that simple, we have a WOB that states that if a Kandra ate a Dahkor Monk, they wouldn't get powers. Selish Arts require Connection to a land to make work, and Dahkor is no different.

Just had a few houghts about Harmonium and it's use in devices. Specifically the more Internal abilities like Feruchemy. Let me start by going over what we know. Firstly, the effects of Ettmetal can be directly applied to objects such as Airships having their weight reduced Feruchemically. Makes me wonder if they are actually storing that weight somewhere or if it's just vanishing into the ether but I digress. So by that logic, it should be possible to reverse this and make the ship heavier instead, tapping instead of storing. I have a few ideas on how this could work with other Feruchemical and even a few Allomantic Abilities. I'll begin with Feruchemy first. F-Tin: Very broad, but any devices that utilize a 'sense' could be vastly improved. Could be used on Sonar to gain longer range? Telescopes see even further than normal? Non-human senses built specifically for the device might be possible to improve? F-Pewter: Storing might cause the structure of the device to become smaller? While Tapping might enlarge it? Could allow for devices to miniaturize and be easier to store? F-Steel: Allows faster and slower speeds, proper control over the device could allow instant and easy control over the level of speed? Cars that can accelerate and brake on a dime? F-Gold: Devices that can repair themselves. Useful for emergency repairs or just maintenance. Perhaps it could be a way to duplicate very rare resources? Make the resources part of a device, then violently rip them out and have the device heal itself and replace the component? Would probably require great understanding of Realmatics to make that work. F-Brass: Devices that can be cooled, will probably be much more useful during the computer age as a much more effective coolant by directly leeching away heat and preventing the device from overheating. Makes me wonder why the Malwish don't have devices that do the opposite and produce heat, maybe they already do but there are only in their homeland? Speculative, but probable due to how big a problem the cold is for them and how long they've been using this kind of stuff. F-Cadmium: Could potentially be used to create large amounts of air and funnel them to create thrust? Or maybe just creating breathable air in vehicles that go to more extreme environments and negate the need for pressurized air canisters? F-Bendalloy: Could be used to directly generate electricity for devices that need it? Or would the concept of 'Feruchemical Energy' not be that broad? Very speculative. Moving on to Allomantic devices. Half of the Internal Allomantic abilities, of the Physical and Temporal quadrants, aren't clear what they could be used for in Ettmetal devices, so I'll take a stab at them. A-Pewter: Improve all physical functions of the device. If it has moving parts, they move faster. If it is fragile, it becomes tougher. The healing effect might negate any need for maintenance. A-Tin: Improve sensitivity of the device. If it's a camera, it sees better. If it's a microphone, it hears better. If it's a pressure plate, it becomes more sensitive. A-Electrum: Provides immunity/resistance to other futuresight. More advanced and powerful devices might allow for direct observation of the Spiritual Realm, whether that would be of any use is up for debate. A-Gold: Could be used on a computer to read other possible outcomes? Better simulations? I dunno I'm out of ideas.

I just had a crazy thought. What if Honor was Splintered not into many small pieces, but a few big pieces. A WOB states that you could split up a Shard into two smaller shards and split their Intent, the example was even splitting up Honor into 'Bravery' and 'Integrity'. What if 'Unity' is just a really, really big piece of Honor that was one of several that was split off but is still big enough to achieve Ascension with. Maybe if this is true, then Kaladin could find another one of these pieces and Ascend as well.

Soulstamp Shenanigans
JustQuestin2004 replied to Through the Living Heir's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I've got one Instant Wood Cutting For the Forgers that aren't geniuses like Shai and just want a nice stable career to be set for life. Though there is an assumption it's a minor one*. They go to a forest which has a long history of wood cutters chopping down trees, then make a Stamp that changes a tree's history that it was actually already cut by wood cutters, then being able to stamp any tree in that forest since they all had a strong chance of being cut in the past. Then instead of needing to swing an axe to cut down a tree, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort by just stamping it to make it cut. And going by the logic of "Essence Marks that make you dead can't revive you after they expire" that would mean that a Stamp used to make a tree cut would make the tree 'dead' and not simply merge back together*. With this it becomes incredibly easy, and more importantly simple, for a Forger to make a career of cutting trees in perhaps the most laziest way possible. -
Could there be a deeper strategy behind the 3 attacks?
JustQuestin2004 replied to josmarrob's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'd argue you can never have too much aluminum, especially on a world with many hostile Invested beings. -
There are Death Rattles that seem to possibly reference that. Talking about rain that hasn't stopped, how the lights fade and how 'He has beaten us'. Very ominous. Plus Dalinar making the Stormfather into a Pseudo-Blade during Oathbringer, which nearly killed him. So there's already some foreshadowing. And if Dalinar loses the Duel, he becomes a Fused, and either the Stormfather will be forced to serve Odium or break the Bond, either of which could lead to the end of the Highstorms.

I don't think we even know what the Shadesmar Sun even is. But you do raise an interesting point. The description of the 'Cognitive Sun' being in different positions at different points in the timeline Secret History Chapter 1 Bands of Mourning Chapter 28 And it's not even mentioned in MeLaan's Epilogue in The Lost Metal, despite the fact that she is describing literally everything else in the Cognitivie Realm there is no mention of its sun. I have not the foggiest clue at what could make something like that happen, if the 'Sun' is meant to be the same for every world then that means that whatever happened affected the entirety of Shadesmar, which sounds insane. Or that the Shadesmar sun is an actual thing that is from Roshar, and that it just so happens to be bright enough to be seen in other Subastrals. Though Scadrial's and Roshar's subastrals are right next to each other, with Scadrial's being known as the 'Expanse of the Vapors'.

Could there be a deeper strategy behind the 3 attacks?
JustQuestin2004 replied to josmarrob's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This sounds more of a Taravangian type strategy, except it's not since it was all set up months ago so it would have to be Rayse. But I bet Taravnagian would absolutely do what you're suggesting. It would even sort of make sense in terms of timing, since chances are the Fused would come from Alethkar towards the Shattered Plains and be the first to attack if most are carried by the Heavenly Ones, while the armies in Shadesmar and the fleet going to Theylenah would still be making their ways to their own locations. Making full use of the whole 'Immortality via Everstorm' thing to move your elite troops around would be ingenious. After all why send so many Fused to the Shattered Plains which isn't all that strategically valuable? Unless it's a feint to specifically attract and wear down the Radiant forces. Maybe it will be what breaks Sigzil, since the more Fused they kill in a pointless battle, the worse the situation will become for the other battles, meaning that all the Radiants who fight there will have died for absolutely nothing and even helped the enemy by falling for a trick. -
CRAZY idea about Odium's Champion, and 'voidbringers'
JustQuestin2004 replied to elihaun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think so, Adolin has no desire for a throne after all, Dalinar offered him to become king of Alethkar and he refused it, which led to Jasnah becoming queen. So if Adolin and Kaladin did ever come to blows, it seems very unlikely that heirship would be the cause. -
CRAZY idea about Odium's Champion, and 'voidbringers'
JustQuestin2004 replied to elihaun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think it's possible, the early Interlude showed that Odium can only affect people who have 'given themselves' to him. Even if Gavilar was Invested at the time of his death due to his budding Bond with Stormfather, he very clearly wasn't that Invested, no glowing or anything. We know that people who aren't Invested get pulled to the Beyond in a matter of seconds, I wouldn't say that Gavilar, Bond or not, could have lasted more than a minute. Maybe Odium could have talked to him in that time, but he would need to convince Gavilar to join him very quickly, which granted probably wouldn't be very hard since Gavilar wants to be immortal and not die. Actually thinking on it, there is a Death Rattle about brothers: The 'Is that his blood or mine' is the part that stands out to me, since that could be reference to a fight between brothers. Storm it, now I'm starting to think that this could be plausible. Though I'd much prefer if we had more foreshadowing on this. Unless the prologue showing his desire for immortality is the foreshadowing? I need to stop convincing myself. It shouldn't fit, but the pieces are starting to line up for me! -
Perhaps Dalinar and Taravangian would have a Vision about the '3 Guilty Men, 1 Innocent Man' question that they debated about before. Taravangian called Nohadon a coward for not killing all 4 men, and we know from the Stormfather that the Visions can't just be about anything, there needs to be a Connection, so I think we'll have them revisit this question. Maybe it'll be what makes Dalinar realize that Taravangian is Odium.

Most situations we've seen the Skybreakers in didn't really require the use of Division. Maybe there's even a cultural bias against it, since the Dustbringers (Who are prolific for its use) were disliked by the ancient Radiants. Maybe the Burning of Ashyn was caused by super-charged Division, since Division is also said to 'burn' things and Ashyn used to have Bondsmiths and Elsecallers. So maybe that could be an old wound that reverberated throughout the culture of the Radiants, leading to its use being much more prohibited than other Surges?

Does Marsh have Feruchemical Bronze?
JustQuestin2004 replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
Maybe, but it would require an Atium spike to steal Temporal powers back then, since there was no cadmium. And if they had no atium by that point, then they wouldn't be able to steal the ability. And quickly reading back HoA, it doesn't seem like the Inquisitors had any atium at all, until Marsh stole that bag from KanPaar. So even if Ruin wanted to make his Inquisitors Gold Compounders, it doesn't seem like it happened.- 11 replies

Does Marsh have Feruchemical Bronze?
JustQuestin2004 replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
Unlikely, since Gold Mistings were mostly unknown, just like Duralumin Mistings. They'd have to spike a Mistborn with an atium spike which would be considered a bit of a waste. That means he is also the most redundant type of Compounder that Scadrial has ever known. That would have been impossible, since there was no Perpendicularity active during the Catacendre. The Well of Ascension was used up and the Pits of Hathsin was destroyed, and I doubt Ruin would bother saving anyone or anything. He wouldn't have a want or need to, since if he succeeded he would have his full power and could start destroying other planets without worry. That is not remotely how a Trueself has been implied to work, if anything that's how a Connector would work. Storing Identity only affects one-self, Storing Connection has been explicitly described as 'lowering others awareness and friendships'. As for gaining more spikes, I'm not too sure. It's been said that Post-Catacendre souls simply can't hold the same amount of powers thanks to Ruin no longer pushing on the fabric of Scadrial. But Marsh already had his soul 'Ruined' and overtaxed with so many spikes, so it could be possible for him where it isn't for others.- 11 replies

Does Marsh have Feruchemical Bronze?
JustQuestin2004 replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
Reading back in Hero of Ages, we do see Marsh spike a Keeper with a Brass Spike, so they were spiking Cognitive Feruchemical abilities as well, and re-using spikes from dead Inquisitors (It's how Marsh got his F-Atium spike as per WOB). Since the main point of giving Marsh more Spikes was to make it easier for Ruin to control him, and how Mistings were much more common than Feruchemists, it makes total sense to stack Allomantic powers. Wouldn't be surprising if he had an extra Steel Spike or two to enhance his Pewterarming. That'd definitely be a good choice for practicality.- 11 replies

Something that came to mind while I thought over the immortality given by Compounding Atium, you would reach a point where you'd need to be constantly tapping your Atiumminds in order to not die, and you can't tap or fill most metalminds except for Bronze ones (Edit: WHILE ASLEEP! How did I miss this part?! it's only the basis of the entire rusting question!). So you'd need to be able to Compound both Bronze and Atium in order to make this method work. So does that mean Marsh has Bronze Feruchemy? He does have over 20 spikes and did gain Feruchemical abilities, so it's not outside the range of possibility for him to have gotten that power, or am I wrong and you can actually tap your Atiumminds while you sleep?

Not necessarily, because then the decision is release Odium from Honor's bindings would fall to whoever holds the next largest part of Honor's power, which might be the Sibling. Plus if the Stormfather dies, then the Highstorm will probably die with him, which is really bad for literally everything on Roshar.
-
Weird, I just looked on the Coppermind. It says that Colot, a captain of the Kholin Army, and is already a Windrunner. Unless this is a different Colot? Maybe this is that Kandra that doesn't work for Harmony that's apparently skulking around Roshar according to several WOBs and she's eaten and replaced poor Colot? Very unclear.

A positive theory on Storm light five could end
JustQuestin2004 replied to bmcclure7's topic in Cosmere Discussion
A rather horrifying thought occured to me, what if Ishar wants to Ascend? What if he tries to use his unbound Bondsmith powers to try and Connect himself to this 'Core' of Honor's power. He already has the means to peer into the Spiritual Realm and he is far more experienced than Dalinar ever could be. Another idea, what if the reason Ishar is making Spren manifest their Shadesmar form in the Physical Realm as flesh and blood bodies is because he wants to do the same thing to himself, to give himself a flesh and blood body for one reason, so he can properly wield the power of Honor without being handicapped like a certain other Cognitive Shadow was. Only a being with ties to all three Realms can make full use of a Shard's power. Ishar is constantly claiming to be the Almighty, so what if the reason he's saying that is because he plans on literally becoming the Almighty? This might be the reason for why the 'Conest' in Shinovar is considered to be just as important, if not more so than the Contest of Urithiru in the part 1 Epigraphs.
