Well that's incredibly bad, without Oathgates there will be no more instant travel. I guess Sja-Anat must have gotten to them during the Occupation. I guess that they'll need to work on those flying ships as quickly as possible for the timeskip, since those will become the next fastest, safest way to travel after the Oathgates are gone. I wonder, the corrupted ones are talking about being 'liberated', so are they planning on leaving the Oathgates themselves?

Have to remember that they could also do the opposite, make their bodies more flexible instead. So they could fall from great heights and simply bounce, stretch themselves a bit, contort themselves into smaller areas. Stuff like that.

It's because the sharp edge of the blade has that 'vaporization' effect, the middle of it doesn't and can be caught with one's hands without it just going through them. Adhesion wouldn't work directly on a Shardblade because it's too Invested and since the Last Clap is a known technique, it doesn't require Surgebinding to do, just the willingness to put yourself in a near-totally suicidal position.

Interesting theory, but I don't think it's quite on the right path. Savantism has been compared to a Spren Bond that is more dangerous, less controlled. Spren fill in the cracks in the soul caused by trauma. Savantism also fills in the cracks but does so in a way that warps the soul, reshaping it to be better at channeling the Investiture even if it comes at the cost of damaging the Physical or Cognitive Aspects of the user. Think of it like the Investiture treating your soul like a new shoe, it's a bit tight at first but eventually it gets comfier. Except it doesn't get comfier for you, just the non-sapient Investiture that can't be aware of the damage it's doing to you.

Transportation can sort of do this, instead of fully transitioning into Shadesmar you can just peek into it. Maybe if you can figure out how to use it on other people directly you might be able to only send half of someone else, cutting them in half.

We know the Ire are the main users of this stuff, probably even discovered it, so some advanced AonDor could be required. Though that's not saying much since AonDor can do pretty much anything. I wonder if you could still use Keyed Dor for the Selish Arts, or does it still need to be Unkeyed even for them? Though I assume you'd be required to Unkey it to get it off of Sel.

I know this is probably not the most interesting observation in this chapter, but I couldn't help but notice it. Shadesmar has a bottom of the bead floor! I had no idea! I thought it was meant to be endless and stuff, like was implied by MeLaan in TLM. So technically you can just walk at the bottom of the sea floor with a diving suit and a really long air pipe. Also loving the revelation that Shallan can make pretty much a submarine with Transformation. That was not something I ever expected to see.

Probably unpopular opinion about WaT sample chapters

Honestly, I see this as the rise before the fall. We're seeing all these good moments because things are going to take a turn for the worst very soon. We should treasure them while we can.- 134 replies

It didn't stop Rlain from bonding with his own Corrupted Mistspren, though I could be remembering the timing wrong. Maybe the reason Sja-Anat was considered the most dangerous Unmade by Ancient Radiants was because she could send her Enlightened Spren into Urithiru to spy for her, making even their one unassailable bastion not even safe from her eyes and ears.

You'd need incredibly good aim and very intimate knowledge of Bindpoints to have a chance of sniping with a spike. On the other hand, who needs precision when you can just get an automatic gun with Hemalurgically viable bullets and start spraying and praying, cause even if you don't hit the exact bindpoint to steal the power you'll still tear their soul to shreds.

Unsealed? Not really, I was just talking about regular metalminds that have no Identity. If anything Unsealed Medallions are way more effective than what I'm thinking of with this method. Since Medallions give you the ability to tap and fill your own metalminds, seemingly indefinitely, while these, let's call them Unkeyed SpikeMinds, would only give you the effects of Feruchemy, it would 'inject' the Unkeyed Feruchemical power into you, temporarily enhancing that attribute until the power ran out. Though that's just my interpretation. Interesting idea, though you'd probably have to Blank the 'Donor's' Identity, otherwise the Hemalurgic Charge will be Keyed and thus be unable to be tapped. Now this is even more interesting, since we know that metalminds count as a 'different metal' when it comes to allomancy, it's just that Idenitity gets in the way. If you could 'Unkey' a Hemalurgic Spike then I could see this being possible. It really depends on how exactly Hemalurgic Spikes would work if they themselves were 'Unkeyed'. Hopefully the Malwish have Unsealed Aluminuminds, or some kind of Harmonium Device that forcibly Blanks Identity, to make this much easier.

Just had a thought, if it's possible for an Allomancer to burn an Unkeyed Metalmind to use the Feruchemical power within without being a Feruchemist, could it be possible to instead use an Unkeyed Metalmind for Hemalurgy? Since if the power is blanked it can be used easier by other magic systems, so if it can be burned allomantically why not spiked hemalurgically? I'm not really sure if this is possible since I just came up with this idea not even 20 minutes ago but I just remember the WOBs that state that Blanked Identity makes it easier to use magic and can't help but try and apply it to this. What would it even do? Maybe it could be a way to give someone temporary Feruchemical effects in a different, less controlled way from Unsealed Metalminds? Like if someone used an Unkeyed Goldmind as a spike and placed it into someone who isn't a metalborn, the spiked person would heal for a while? Seems sort of pointless, since Hemalurgic spikes are meant to provide permanent benefits, not temporary buffs. I dunno, my brains just firing a mile a minute and I'm bored. Could be an interesting way to combine Feruchemy and Hemalurgy in a new, if suboptimal, way.
-
That one spike would count as 4 different spikes, and we know that even a minimally charged spike still counts the same as a full spike, at least towards the Hemalurgic Flaw, Paalm can attest to that. So chances are you'd end up with a very small Koloss, relatively small anyway. They'd get buff but not to the point where their skin would rip. Maybe this would be a way to make artificial Koloss-Blooded, gaining a fraction of the strength of a Koloss without losing any of your humanity, though still being open to being controlled. Seems fine enough, it's been confirmed that when a spike has less potency it causes less twisting and horrific changes, Koloss with recycled spikes retained more humanity. So this could easily be the case, it'd even be economically efficient since you could spike anyone for those traits then be able to split the spike up a bunch. Though it'd be best to stick to under 3 spikes at once since you wouldn't want to be controlled. Maybe by the Cyberpunk Era we'll see this, since hemalurgic cyborgs would be way too easy to make. You could even set up a 'hotswap' kind of thing where you can insert spikes into your cybernetics and swap them on the go.

[SA5 SPOILERS] On the Unmade in Shinovar
JustQuestin2004 replied to BlueWildRye's topic in Stormlight Archive
I kind of doubt it, being permanently blinded isn't something one just gets over and adapts to within 10 days. If he does show up it probably won't be as a combatant, especially not against Kaladin or Szeth. Maybe he'll get Kaladin to freeze up a bit or maybe enrage him like he was in the previous book, with the red eyes or something. -
So I've been thinking over the whole 'Unkeyed' Metalminds thing and how that would relate to Hemalurgy and the creation of 'Unkeyed' spikes, since TLM proved that Identity Contamination stops you from Compounding with Hemalurgically granted powers plus the whole Nicrosil stuff. Just hear me out: When someone creates an Unkeyed Metalmind that any Ferring with the right power can use, what happens if others store into it? Does the power they store within an Unkeyed Metalmind automatically become blanked? Or does every donor to an Unkeyed Metalmind need to blank their Identity while storing into it to keep all of the power Unkeyed? I honestly don't know for sure, I'd be glad to know if anyone else has thought of this.

Does Kinetic Investiture have Identity?
JustQuestin2004 replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
I really hope we get to see how it all works in Era 3, since by that point it should be understood that spikes have their own Identity, like metalminds. Along with better MetallicTech that could let you forcibly blank other people's Identity, making it easy to make Unkeyed Spikes. -

I think you mean this one So maybe it would only grant you temporary use of the power? -
Does Kinetic Investiture have Identity?
JustQuestin2004 replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
So are you saying that, like how a metalmind creates a 'new metal' in allomancy, Hemalurgic spikes count as a 'new metal' in Feruchemy? So long as they're not prevented by Identity I mean. -
Does Kinetic Investiture have Identity?
JustQuestin2004 replied to JustQuestin2004's question in Cosmere Q&A
Plus, the Bands of Mourning are capable of running out of Investiture, which the Malwish Medallions don't seem to do since they act like Copperminds. Which indicates that there are multiple ways of utilizing F-Nicrosil. -
So I was speculating about a theoretical A-Chromium/F-Nicrosil Twinborn and if it was at all possible for them to 'Steal and hoard the powers of others' like it's said in the MAG. I know it's not technically canon but it's still worth discussing. Anyway, not the point. The point is that someone questioned if the stolen Kinetic Investiture would have its own Identity and be inaccessible even if it was stolen. We know that Static Investiture, such as in Metalminds, has Identity which interferes with anyone besides the user trying to use it. Does Kinetic Investiture have that same kind of thing? Has it ever been said or implied that Kinetic Investiture, power in use, of any kind, has Identity?

Using A Chromium and F Nicrosil to steal metallic arts.
JustQuestin2004 replied to Atlas333's topic in Mistborn
I like this combo, I really do. Though I think it'd take a deep understanding of Investiture and the difference between Kinetic and Innate Investiture to make work. It all hinges of the exact mechanics of F-nicrosil which hasn't been made clear yet and an understanding of A-Chromium and Resonances. The powers like Allomancy are themselves Innate Investiture, a part of the soul itself, which would make it tricky to steal without Hemalurgy and which Leeching doesn't usually effect, but when an Allomancer burns a metal they are turning it into Kinetic Investiture, power that is being used, which is primarily what Leeching deals with. We don't know for sure if Nicrosil allows you to store Kinetic Investiture itself instead of just the Innate Investiture of the powers themselves, but we may have an answer due to Book 6 of Mistborn. The Malwish had Medallions that granted Feruchemical powers, they used F-Nicrosil to function but are described by Brandon as 'a little more restrictive then a Nicrosil Ferring', they act like Copperminds in that something discrete is taken, used and returned like a memory with Copper Ferrings. So this is evidence that what you want might not work. But the Bands of Mourning themselves indicate it might be possible, as they are chock full of Investiture, such as the type that gives allomantic powers, and that power runs out over time, unlike the Medallions. Since it had to have been created with F-Nicrosil, this indicates there are multiple ways to utilize F-Nicrosil, which gives your idea evidence it can work. Maybe, it depends on whether Kinetic Investiture has Identity itself as it's being used, as you're more likely to steal that with Leeching. Though if Identity does become an issue then you'd probably need some Unkeyed Nicroslminds or a spike that grants F-Aluminum. Seems like a reasonable limit, if I were Brandon I wouldn't want this combo becoming too overpowered. Maybe if a Sapper had some Metalborn friends they could 'stock up' some powers. Chromium doesn't burn in an instant, duralumin doesn't even if it burns away all other metals instantly. It burns at a steady rate. Also Savantism could probably be required, but I think it would also take the Resonance between A-Chromium and F-Nicrosil to make it really work, as with Resonances your kind of making the powers mix together a bit, which might let you cross their wires. Like if you store into your Nicrosilminds as you're Leeching someone you might be able to 'Divert' the flow of Kinetic Investiture from the Spiritual Realm (which is where Leeching usually sends it) into your Nicrosilminds instead. Overall a potentially very powerful combination, though very reliant on assumptions on powers we haven't had properly examined yet. -
That is a really, really good point. Counterpoint Do you think his Boon and Curse could count as a mental sickness?

New Contract Loophole Theory: Ecological Disaster
JustQuestin2004 replied to coolsnow7's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well that would be easier said then done now that Urithiru is back up and running, it's become almost completely unassailable to any Voidbringer forces. I don't think Dalinar would need to give his soul to Odium should he lose, I think it'll just give Odium permission to just flat out take it after Dalinar dies. Probably not, which makes me think that Taravangian is going to have a little slip up and make an out of character comment to Dalinar like he did with Hoid, only he won't be able to erase his memories so easily. Probably talk about 'Saving' the Cosmere instead of conquering it like Rayse would.- 24 replies
