If it has to be anything, video game with an unrelated plot, different characters, a different time frame and/or different nations. I don't like it when books are directly converted into movies or TV. They always have to alter stuff to fit better. Every time I notice a difference between a book and a movie, I think to myself "that wasn't like that in the book", no matter how small the difference. It spoils all the fun and I usually end up driving myself crazy.

Good idea to compare Invested objects. Upvote. A fabrial needs stormlight to work. It's not stated in text but it is stated in Navani's notebook. I think that's a clear sign the Investiture is stormlight. Focus is trickier: Obvious answer is since the pattern of stormlight filtered determines the power, the pattern is the focus. But I'm not sure about this. We don't know exactly how that pattern is formed. The focus could be what causes the pattern. Maybe the spren (which I think is the most likely), or the gemstone (maybe) or the metal framing (doubtful).

Oh, come on. One of the radiantspren is a Splinter but the other 9 aren't? That doesn't make any sense. Why would the Windrunners be any different from other Orders? I know it's not guaranteed but it seems like a very safe assumption to me. I think this is more likely too. Though it still doesn't explain the peculiarities. The Cryptics remind me of the Finn from Wheel of Time, honestly. They aren't interested in a person being honest in her life so much as they want to hoard secrets or something.
-
We know Cryptics and Wyndle stayed in the Cognitive Realm and they have their memories. We know transitioning into Physical Realm causes a spren to forget. I think it was staying in the Physical Realm without being bonded to someone that made Syl and Ym's spren lose their memories. Maybe Honor's Splintering left some of the sprens unable to cross to the Cognitive Realm. Or maybe they knew they had to stay in the Physical Realm and they chose it. Remember Brandon said spren act like a release valve so there is not as much uncontrolled power in Roshar as in Sel. Radiant spren are Splinters so they have a lot more Investiture than regular spren. The curious thing is what's going on with Shallan and Cryptics. First, she is not particularly honest or even that creative. She's more scholar than an artist really even though she can draw amazing pictures. The second why is she interacting with multiple spren? In every other instance we've seen, the spren chose a person then made the Nahel bond. With Shallan, it's like she's appealing the Cryptics to give her Surgebinding. I find Shallan to be a very weird girl.

I'm not sure if there is another mention of this in the book. Sadeas is hardly a religious expert but this is the only one I can remember right now. Okay, also found this:
-
Mostly because I don't trust Vorinism. In my mind that religion is responsible for a lot of what's wrong with Alethkar. It also outright rejects Surgebinding while claiming Soulcasting is divine, holy and such. So mixing Shallan who's a devout Vorin and something that's ingrained in Vorinism doesn't exactly fill me with coincidence, you know? I'll also admit that I might be biased a little. But only a little.
-
Or there is a third option, Shallan's just repeating unfounded rumors she's heard.
-
Jasnah isn't using a fabrial, she's a Surgebinder. Also Shallan is no expert on Soulcasting or fabrials. I personally don't pay much attention to the quote Argent posted.

Timeline doesn't have to be that exact. We don't know when Taravangian gives the order in relation to Dalinar-Elhokar meeting. Dalinar tells Elhokar to publish the document making him Highprince of War tomorrow. All Taravangian needs to know about it is someone with a spanreed in any of the warcamps.
-
I think that's what he meant too. But even if he did read the third book, I wouldn't be jealous. I'd be happy that Rothfuss finally finished it.

I'm pretty sure Hemalurgy requires contact with blood to work guys. I don't know how they'd get around that.
-
Interesting idea but are mists even necessary? We know Southerners have very little of Preservation's power in their blood so there is no chance of one of them being born Mistborn+Feruchemist. Which means if they have Feruchemy there, the Lord Ruler doesn't have a reason to try to wipe them out. So, Feruchemy already handles the storing Investment in metals part. The trick is how to tap that power without the Feruchemist who stored it. I have no idea how that would work.
-
Whether or not that would make its way to Kaladin or Bridge Four is another thing though. There's not much of a rumor mill in the bridge crews.
-
There is NO WAY in Damnation that Kaladin's giving him command of men after the bridge crews.
-
Not that I wasn't expecting this but I hate Darkness. I'd be happy to transcribe the rest of the chapter if someone can get me a recording.
-
I think he went to one of the bridge crews. He owes people who can make that happen money. He is actually threatened by it, by his superior whom I think Sadeas executed after the side carry. I'm not going to be surprised if he appears in one of the squads of Kaladin's new army. Or he's dead.
-
I agree with this. So theoretically, can a Surgebinder that is out in a highstorm (like Kaladin, but someone who knows what he's doing and wasn't beaten to unconsciousness beforehand) use all the Stormlight in the highstorm instead of a tiny portion trapped in a gemstone like Vin used mists? Speculate!

I'm not saying Brandon has to release these stuff. My question was not rhetorical. I honestly don't understand why what was released was released. So I asked if there was something I was missing.
-
Did we just get a picture of a giant jellyfish with one eye or am I missing something here? I'm kind of disappointed after all this waiting.

Yeah, I am more or less certain he is order 5. Besides the things you said, his personality also fits with the divine attributes.- 88 replies

I do this sometimes when I don't feel like rereading whole books. There is an Interlude where Shallan's brother talks to her via spanreed and there is another chapter where Dalinar and Jasnah talk via spanreed as well. Read those and you shouldn't miss anything from Shallan's arc.

Theory: How Gavilar got the Evil Sphere of Doom
cem replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
Somewhat interesting tidbit. Restares is Amaram's flunky. He is actually the wonderful person who convinced Amaram to screw Kaladin big time. -
So have we decided to add Heralds to the list? It seems somewhat pointless to me. We don't know if they form Nahel bonds. We don't know if they take oaths like Radiants. We don't even know if they are Surgebinders. Using stormlight doesn't necessarily mean they are Surgebinding, just means they are using an Investiture.

From what I understand the Surge doesn't have anything to do with liquids. It changes the rigidity of an object. Makes something stiffer or more pliable maybe.
