I am not sure about this either - how does jumping affect immigration?

In-world, at least in Alethkar and Jah Kaved, J is pronounced s Y, at least in the beginning of the word. Jasnah, Jezrien, Jah Kaved - all those start with a ya / ye sound. But @Delightful is right, of course, Brandon has been saying for ages that he doesn't care how we pronounce the names.

Yea, I am not ready to rule out Brandon trolling us.

I don't think those two types of brokenness (ha! Turns out this is a real word...) fall under the same umbrella. Nale and Shalash are exhibiting perverted versions of their divine attributes - Taln is just broken from torture.

[Words of Radiance Tour] Chicago Signing, Mar 22
Argent replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
Except, I am no longer convinced any of this is true. Ruin's magic system, Hemalurgy, might not have anything to do with metal - it looks like a Metallic Art to us, because it's limited to only Scadrial, where metal is the focus of all magic. But what if Ruin had went to Nalthis instead of Scadrial? Awakening is a very metal unfriendly magic system - would the Hemalurgic spikes there depend not on the type of material / metal they are made of, but on their color? I very much think so. Because, remember, Hemalurgy can affect all magic systems, not just Allomancy - so it seems strange to bind it to the same focus as Allomancy. It's restrictive. Roshar... maybe. We have Brandon on record telling us that one way to count the magic systems on Roshar is three sets of ten. Sounds pretty solid, but he is also pretty sneaky. -
Except Syl kind of was around when Kaladin was still in Amaram's army. Multiple times throughout both books she reminds Kaladin of his days as the Stormblessed, wishing he would go back to the way he was back then. And Dalinar... that's a fickle argument you make there.

It's this interview, I know somebody made a separate thread for it... somewhere...

Location is irrelevant, you can always contact - email - Brandon and ask for a copy of White Sand, Aether of Night, and Mistborn Prime (these are the ones he sends).

[Words of Radiance Tour] Chicago Signing, Mar 22

Yeah, I was thinking about mini-Intents, or aspects (didn't I write aspects somewhere?). I have to wonder though, have we seen any of the other Shards express themselves in such a way? Preservation maybe, kind of. -

No, I am afraid you are wrong. And, of course, I prove my previous reply wrong, as well... Turns out both the Lord Ruler and Vin were Shards for a short period of time...- 14 replies

Theory: Elokhar was being watched by voidspren.
Argent replied to Daishi5's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've seen you add a g in the end of his name. It's funny because I do the same with Renarin -
Correction - he has says Hoid has used Shadesmar to worldhop, and he says there is a big hint about worldhopping in Elantris, but this doesn't imply that the Elantris hint is related to Shadesmar. In fact, having listened to him answer "Does Hoid worldhop using Shadesmar?", he was being very careful in saying "Hoid has, in fact, used Shadesmar to travel between worlds." The past tense was telling, I think.

This feels like a RAFO bait now... I am almost certain it can, but for some reason it doesn't sound like a question he would answer =\

Shardic influence is not reciprocal - if Elhokar was somehow affected by Odium, he would hate not be hated. Plus, people don't really hate him. -

Going off the descriptions in The Way of Kings and some of Words of Radiance, most of us wrote this off as him seeing Cryptics. Granted, when this theory came up, we didn't know almost anything about the Cryptics, but I believe the TWoK passages talk about figures with too-still robes and strange geometries for faces. -
Theory: Yelig-nar (and the Unmade) are Stormfather Analogues
Argent replied to PorridgeBrick's topic in Stormlight Archive
No, you were on the right track. We just don't have a word for "a person who currently holds most of a Shard's power" - because that's not a Shardholder. Neither Vin nor the Lord Ruler were Shards or Shardholders in the moments after their ascension, while they were still deciding what to do with their newfound power. The distinction lies in where the power goes when you use it - "active Slivers," as I call them, either hold the power (and don't do anything with it), or send it back to the Shard by using it (slowly or quickly); Shardholders don't lose their power - if a Shard spends all of his or her power, it will come back to them sooner or later. So there has to be a different term, and "active Sliver" sounds best to me.- 14 replies

You can't recommend that people go from Firefox to IE because of decline in usage - they've both lost about the same number of people, with those people going to Chrome. And I find this a poor advice, given the context, anyway. I've had to use Firefox for a few weeks when on 17S because multiple versions of Chrome, installed on multiple computers, would all have something broken; Firefox was rock solid those days. Plus, v29 is very Chrome-like. So let's not send people to new browsers unnecessarily.

Theory: Yelig-nar (and the Unmade) are Stormfather Analogues
Argent replied to PorridgeBrick's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, by definition almost, there can only be only one active Sliver per Shard at any one time (such as the Stormfather), so the Unmade can't be direct opposites to that. I have to wonder though, is the Stormfather using the word realmatically? Because that would create a weird precedent - a Splinter that is also a Sliver.- 14 replies

[Words of Radiance Tour] Chicago Signing, Mar 22
Argent replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
I should add this - another interesting bit from the lost audio dealt with the significance of the number 10 on Roshar. Brandon talked about something he called "Honor's purposes" or maybe "Honor's Purposes," and how they are the reason 10 is such a holy and dominant number - I assumed it meant Honor has (had) 10 of those Purposes. It was heavily implied in the conversation that Odium, if he has similar Purposes, does not have 10 of them. -
Theory: Yelig-nar (and the Unmade) are Stormfather Analogues
Argent replied to PorridgeBrick's topic in Stormlight Archive
Before I address your theory, I should point out that Brandon, on several occasions, said talked about how there aren't always direct counterparts of things on Roshar. A lot of what we've seen about this world has been symmetrical, so we've went and made everything symmetrical - and I don't think this will end up being the case. The reason for the number 10 showing up everywhere (and I need to add this to the Chicago signing thread) is because of what Brandon called "Honor's purposes (Purposes?)." He repeated the word a couple of times as he was talking about something marginally related, so I believe it's important; I've been treating it as "Honor's aspects," though that might be a little different. The reason I bring this is up is because he was quite clear that 10 is tied to Honor and his Purposes - Odium is a very different being, so he probably wouldn't be "bound" to the same number.- 14 replies

That's the Chicago signing, just to fix that.

Needs rewording. Because I can tell you they are - we know Hoid has used Shadesmar to hop between worlds, and we know Elsecalling can take you to Shadesmar, so there is one way they are related.

Some person, correct. 's what the Man said.
