Happy birthday Emi!
I never met you or spoke with you, but I do recall hearing your praises sung quite often, so I wish you good vibes wherever you might be!
-
-
it could honestly be a bug with the infrastructure
like
if a user keeps a tab open, and then opens another tab w/out closing the first one, it loads the user as having been on a different section of the forums, but it might not actually be clearing them from the previous section - since they are loaded somewhere else, though, it might be unable to identify them. So even if they close out, it'll have trouble clearing it.
Anyways, thats my uneducated guesstimation.

A couple days late.. I apologize!
Happy late birthday, though! You are missed, and I send wishes of good fortune and happiness to you, wherever you may be!

Casually missed my fourth Shardiversary...
I feel like an old mummy coming around here every once in a while just for TLT honestly, but I still stand by the belief that the 17th Shard is one of my favorite online communities ever!
My pals, people like:
Spoilerand others I'm forgetting, even if I haven't spoken with you in a while, I want you to know that I appreciate you!
And another random thing, I've really enjoyed seeing all the new kids come along! I know that sounds kind of cheesy, but a bunch of the new members that have joined fairly recently are cool, and I don't know, I just find it fun to feel so old seeing new people around
.
People like:Spoiler@Through The Living Glass, @Kansas Stormcursed, @Dragonheir, @Hawks, @Bird Furious, and more I'm also probably forgetting,
are just some that stand out to me
. Probably because of TLT...
Anyways, just wanted to let everybody know that I appreciate all of you, and even if I'm not nearly as active as I was back in the day, I still love this community a lot!

Sooo...
Do we have any Andor fans here? I remember our old pal Thaidakar quite liked it. If only he was here!
I rewatched the series before the new season came out, and I was reminded just how fantastic it is. I didn't properly appreciate it the first time, but it's easily my favorite Star Wars of all time. And the new season is just.. chefs kiss. I just love how gritty and complicated and "grown up", so to say, this series is. It's such a grounded view of revolution and unrest, and set in the Star Wars galaxy, which I just love!Anybody else have thoughts?

Yes! The first season was so striking to me because it was so gritty and, yeah, more raw. Everything about it I loved, even the relatively small things, like culture and scenery on Ferrix, Aldhani, and Niamos, the whole prison thing on Narkina 5, seeing the P.O.R.D. initiative thingy mess with court justice, blah blah blah, I just loved it. I only really noticed the music when I rewatched it, and YES, IT'S SO GOOD!!!
About the new season, 6 episodes are out now and you need to watch
. I personally think it's fantastic. The little details I enjoy are all wonderful, though the overall vibe is a little bit different. If you look at Andor Season 1, that's the gritty, dark, dirty underground beginning of Cassian, and then Rogue One is the flashy, violent, explosive, action packed end, y'know? Season 2, so far, is like a bit more in the middle, if that makes sense. Still definitely leaning towards the more grounded vibe of Season 1.
I don't know, I'm kinda rambling
. If you're big into Star Wars worldbuilding and such, you should watch Generation Tech on YouTube. Definitely not because he happens to agree with all of my opinions on Andor. -

I started reading Wind and Truth finally
. Took me long enough, I know... But, I've already decided that when I'm done, I want to reread all of Stormlight. I miss reading about the warcamps and the bridgemen and Kharbranth and all the fun things in Way of Kings, and to be honest, I don't remember as much as I'd like about the other three books!! Gah!!
-
-
I know, right? Those were much simpler times
. While I love all this new stuff and seeing these characters I love grow and do more things and blah blah blah, I miss Bridge Four banter around the fire and Horneater stew... Fabulous and wonderful that I have my own copies of the whole series to reread
.

Gah! Thank you all!
It was indeed my birthday yesterday.
Many many many many many thanks (and reps) to everyone!!

Ahh, that makes sense. Something I always say, is that while skiing is definitely something of a skilled sport, it's never too late to learn! Some people might say so, but my mother didn't learn to ski until she was forty, and she can ski basically anything now! Albeit, nervously
.
Outer Wilds! Haven't played it, but I've been recommended it several times and I love the music. It's definitely on my list to be played... eventually

This made me chuckle

Hey, I was just wondering, does anybody know how to make a blog? I saw a few people making a blog specifically to store TLT information, which is actually an idea I like a lot! My About Me is a bit cluttered as is.
However, I can't seem to figure out how to make a blog. Is that no longer a feature? Is it only available to some people? Any info is appreciated!

Just a random little thing:
Recently, I have been absolutely dazzled by pencils. Writing with them, sketching and drawing with them, and just using them in general. I don't know exactly why, but just the way they leave marks on paper and the feeling and the sight and just... the entire sensation of writing with a pencil on paper. It's amazing! I can't write enough!
I've been taking so many physical notes for both lectures and my work, and it's just very enjoyable.
Once again, I've no clue why. I've almost always preferred digital notes, and with both my shakiness from my medication and my poor handwriting and hypertense grip, writing has been annoying, but now I just love it!
Felt the need to share. You should all try writing on physical paper with physical pencils sometime!

Why, thank you for the follow! I don't think I've met you yet!

Ask you about pineapples?
I believe I will! What has compelled you to become a pineapple scholar?

It seems I missed my 3rd Shardiversary...
Drat. Well, my days on the Shard have mostly come to pass anyways.

I'll probably be back to check in every few months or so if I feel so inclined.I hope you're all doing well, and I really enjoyed being apart of this community as long as I was!

I would post images if not for the Shard's file size limit, but guys...
It's snowing, no... blizzarding where I live right now. May 6th, 2024. Snow. I got a winter storm warning yesterday and woke up to two feet of snow on my driveway. May 6th! American West! It's not like this is Nepal or Canada or something where snow in May is normal.

The reading slump, do you know it? If you do,
. If you don't you're a lucky person.
It's been so hard to get into really any books, even good ones! My interests have changed so much, and to be honest... I'm painfully tired of Fantasy. Treason! I know, I know. I couldn't even get into the second Six of Crows book or the Eleventh Metal, and for that I am deeply ashamed...
However! For the first time in months, I'm happy to say that I am finally excited to read a book. After so much mental stalling and inability to read (which is super sad to me), I finally found a book I'm interested in from the outside.
Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising"
Fictional historical politics, finally! After a friend of mine told me about it, I went and found it at a cute vintage bookstore I love (It's called "Marissa's Bookstore" in downtown Salt Lake, if you wanna check it out!), and I'm actually excited to start reading it. It's a surreal, yet blissful and familiar feeling!
... Now to find the freetime...

Question! Is your member title referencing just the poem or the movie Interstellar?
In my opinion it's equally iconic by itself and as part of that movie, so I was curious.

I tried a new activity which I highly recommend!!
Airsoft! Very fun. The odd looks I got as an adult woman in an airsoft arena of mostly teenage boys was hilarious to be honest
.
But I legitimately enjoyed it, I got shot a few times and sometimes it hurt sometimes but it wasn't so bad. It wasn't my idea to go originally, my nephew actually invited me when his friend ended up being busy so I decided to go with him because I love that little guy, and it ended up being pretty enjoyable! I kinda sucked. Everyone there was pretty serious and I got maybe 10 confirmed kills in about 4 hours of playing and a lot more deaths lol, but the experience has got me interested in the sport(?) as a whole and I think I might want to start getting my own gear (I used rentals that time).

I didn't know you well, but all I hear are good things!! Have a wonderful birthday
.

Gwaaa thank's for the birthday wishes everyone!! Very kind, I appreciate y'all and wish you the best

An update on my previous status update!! (The one about the weather broadcasts)
So recently I came back and decided to decode a few more for fun, and I discovered something!! I discovered that I was completely wrong about what METAR and TAF is, and the systems that other countries use.
METAR is a completely universal system, everywhere from the US to Germany to Russia to China to Indonesia uses it. The discrepancies and the issues me and my nephew were running into were due to the fact that each country uses a seemingly random combination of measurement systems. Places like Russia use meters for distance (altitude and visibility), meters per second for speed, celsius for temperature, and hectoPascals for pressure. Meanwhile, the US uses statute miles for visibility distance, feet/thousandths of a mile for altitude, knots for speed, fahrenheit for temperature, and pounds-per-square-inch for pressure. Other countries also may have slightly different layouts but it's all the same system with the same precipitation and sky condition abbreviations.
Another mistake I made is regarding the TAF system. METAR is a completely universal system for conveying current weather information, and TAF is a completely universal system for conveying forecasted weather information.
Sooooo... now that I have all that figured out, I shared it with my nephew and him and I are practically pros at this now
.
