  1. How long is the Hoid scene? Any possible chance of someone typing the scene for those of us who don't have the new Elantris copy, or uploading the pages, or something similar? I could probably procure a .pdf but that requires effort.
  2. Have any Original Shardholders willingly given up their Shards or 'passed their Shard down' to someone else?
  3. The only page I see with actual papers cited was http://www.ptsd.va.gov/professional/PTSD-overview/epidemiological-facts-ptsd.aspwhich was a link from the bottom of the second page. Got it bookmarked and will take a look at it when I have time. Thanks man. My career goals involve research into psychopathology so I become immediately interested whenever any form of mental disorder is brought up. Also, re: women get less support from their community. That is actually wholly incorrect and the reverse is the accurate observation. This has even came up as a discussion during several classes of mine in the past. Men are often conditioned (by women) and raised to bottle and repress their emotions, to essentionally become 'stoic', and are instantly stigmatized any time they speak of any similar types of problems they may have (for example: depression.) It is viewed as a sign of weakness and is usually met with responses such as "cheer up!", "pull yourself together!", so on and so forth, typically causing the male to be looked down upon. Granted, this isn't a thread about psychopathology so I'll refrain from typing too much but it's all very fascinating to observe. Societal norms can be a disappointing beast.
  4. We don't know the opposite-paired Shard, if it even has one.. I am far too lazy to look up the WoB right now but to paraphrase, there isn't an exact opposite for /every/ Shard, and if Adonalsium were to be Shattered again, we would see a set of completely different Shards (or mostly different.)
  5. Do you have any sources to back up the claims of PTSD correlating with genetics, alcohol usage, and/or gender? I'd be real curious to read them as this is the first I've heard of any of these causing PTSD.
  6. But that's subjective dislike. That's nowhere near the same thing as 'Opposite-Paired Shards' (such as Ruin and Preservation.)
  7. Love is not the same thing as Devotion. They can incorporate similar traits but do not share a definition in the least.
  8. I don't see Devotion being anything close to an opposite of Odium.
  9. Ah yeah, that's right. I just found that out earlier today as well. Man, this chronology stuff is confusing, especially with modern Mistborn being written during the SA gap and then SA 6-10 being written. And yes, Bavadin has only been mentioned in-universe through the Letter.
  10. The most interesting thing from the transcript is him possibly considering shortening the Dragonsteel series. Hell, I'd be okay with three books. Cosmere is going to go on for decades as is; may as well condense where it's appropriate.
  11. Oh Frost isn't even a worldhopper? That's very peculiar.
  12. Isn't Odium confined to the Rosharan System? I know that he can't leave the System but I took that as him being unable to even ACT outside of the system which makes me doubt a lot of the Odium-influence on Scadrial that many others seem to be privy to. Which is space shard? That may be a new one for me.
  13. This has actually been discussed in previous classes of mine. Evidently, sociopaths often become doctors, likely relishing the thrill of possessing control over somebody's life--essentially holding someone's life in their hands. Not necessarily a malicious avenue but still interesting trivia.
  14. I wonder how high up there Frost ranks in Cosmere knowledge.
  15. Asperger's doesn't technically exist anymore. Everything is consolidated to the spectrum (Autism Spectrum Disorder) but her observation of people and practicing socialization can easily indicate some social deficiencies, potentially placing her on the spectrum. Wayne having PTSD is interesting to myself as I have that crap too and he's becoming my favorite Cosmere character thus far. Really wish he'd become a worldhopper or some such.
  16. I forgot that I had this reply open in another tab. Oops. Anyway, Hoid surviving SA is a given as he will be the main character of future Mistborn. Sorry for double post.
  17. It's not so much that they're /more/ technologically advanced, but that they advanced /differently/. That's a paraphrased WoB from an AoL hardcover I bought a while back. Also keep in mind that Allomancy is incredibly rare in South Scadrial. While I do believe that modern Mistborn will be set in South Scadrial, I'm curious as to where the Mistborn(s) will come from.
  18. This, and it is supposed to be about an Allomantic SWAT team chasing down a Mistborn serial killer. Main character is a Nicrosil Misting (female, iirc).
  19. I liked that 'cosmere' was straight-up name-dropped. That still keeps the term being mentioned in any books <5, right? Or somewhere along those lines. I enjoyed the banter between Wax and Wayne--real organic and spot on--and I like how Marasi slightly deviates from most of Brandon's main female characters although I hope he someday drops the recurring trend of blushing being an obscenely common trait. I noticed 'rust' and 'ruin', and variants, used several times as well but that's probably because they are Scadrian curse terms and would naturally crop up often. Interested to see what other Shard is interfering--perhaps Autonomy?--and the why behind it. Hopefully we'll learn more in Bands of Mourning. Also noticed that bit about Harmony possibly alluding to the Southern Scadrians when he was musing about the populace not being too technologically advanced "compared to people who were almost destroyed" (paraphrased). I really hope we learn ANYTHING about Southern Scadrial during this particular arc. Makes me believe that modern Mistborn will take place in South Scadrial which would be pretty neat.
  20. Hard sci-fi has completely changed how I view any type of fictional media now. Th-thanks Clarke's Third Law.
  21. To be specific, I mean information gleaned from Q&As, interviews, and the like. Someone once mentioned wanting to create a ticker-like something for this goal but it never happened. I know that we can sift through the Events forum to read answers but there can be many threads at a time as well as the act itself being rather time-consuming. Theoryland is great too but I don't believe there is a way to organize search results by date, is there? Personally, I enjoyed the compiled WoB thread and since it helped someone like me out a lot, I'm a bit confused as to why it was closed. Not trying to spark an argument, but you guys make it difficult to keep up on recent news if we're not a daily visitor.
  22. Something like that. I'd find it very cool. A group of scientists who know enough to survive on their own. Would be different from the generic "random group of people (possibly mercs) who are looking for somebody".
  23. Man, I haven't browsed this forum in two weeks or so and I'm already missing out. Would someone mind explaining to me what anti-investiture is?
