  1. I think romance is written oddly due to Brandon being Mormon, but I don't particularly care either way. It's just amusing at times. What does aggravate me is how practically all main female characters are written the same, and I feel like I've brought this up before. They're essentially all "beautiful, talented, witty, intelligent" charicatures. Look at Vin. She spent her entire childhood living poor, in the slums, fending for herself, and in fear of possible rape, then she attends her first noble ball in disguise and it's as if it broke down every wall she had previously built up. It's just unrealistic.
  2. I wonder if the Seventeenth Shard tried to create a man-made 17th Shard and that could be a possible origin of their name.
  3. Will any Shardworlds become as technologically advanced as Scadrial will? Is the threat to Adonalsium extragalactic? Will we see anything in-Cosmere that is extragalactic? Also to that guy who was going to add my question to a 'card' on the desk, or whichever, could you PM me if that question is ever answered?
  4. Lel. Can definitely add to the "y'all" as a singular being incorrect.
  5. I found Lightbringer to be far better than Night Angel. I like the color-based magic, and aside from Warbreaker, I had not found anything else featuring it. I did think The Black Prism had better twists in the meat of the book as opposed to the typical ending twists/reveals you get in media (like Gavin being Dazen and vice versa) but I don't care for some factors like Gavin's sexual interest in several women in the books. I don't have a problem with sex in books but something about the way its done in Lightbringer is unappealing to me, personally.
  6. Alright. I might try to burn through them next weekend or something. I don't mind a school arc as long as it eventually progresses beyond that. Hell, I didn't even mind Hogwarts in HP.
  7. Codex Alera has been on my backlog for a while. How is it? Give me a decent description (preferably without spoilers, obviously) but include flaws as well. No book is perfect. I do need to get around to reading them sometime ever. Also seconding Old Kingdom. Sabriel is one of THE YA books that always gets recommended in nearly any Fantasy book thread on any website. It would make an awesome game or movie, too.
  8. We've known that Hoid was present at the Shattering so I figured that was a given.
  9. I dig them. I enjoy the concept and like Arlen as a character. Excited to see where the series is going with its conclusion. Will agree with people ITT about Jardir and his entire backstory though. Felt like it was forced in order to make him a major character which is amusing considering what happens to him. I don't know how to spoiler so I can't even say. ;_;
  10. Malazan jumps into the middle of a campaign so you won't know about much of what is going on throughout the majority of the first book (no main character backgrounds, event explanations, so on and so forth.) If you can deal with that and make it to the second book, you'll be okay. I'd say easily an R as there is quite a bit of grittiness (gruesome killing, torture, rape, etc etc.)
  11. Still reading The Prefect by Alastair Reynolds. Now that I'm back in classes, I'll read more often (for instance, I'm a TA for one class and I don't do much of anything but read for the entire duration.) Got 13% read over two days so that was cool. I did read In Other Worlds by A.A. Attanasio over the holiday break, and Shadow Knight which is a Night Lords (Warhammer 40k) short story. I have their trilogy on my Kindle but who knows when I'll actually get around to reading it. For people who have read Tower Lord or the third Lightbringer book (that I can't remember the name of at the moment), are they decent? Edit: OF COURSE I MISREAD THE THREAD and misposted. Fuggggg. ;_; Right after I pressed the Post button too. I really need a 'delete my own posts' option just for me.
  12. Another thing about the map that I just thought of: I have to wonder how far Braize is from Roshar since I'm assuming Kaladin is going to travel there by virtue of Stormlight what with the calculations ran to see how fast he needs to accelerate in order to break orbit.
  13. I don't think he would either but as this is easily my favorite Fantasy series (the entire meta), I'm naturally concerned of what-could-be's and the like.
  14. I'll be sure to read all of this and try to memorize it when I have more time. Thank you for going out of your way to type all of it up for me. Helps a lot.
  15. Oh yeah I remember most of those. I consider those the basics. I had meant set-specific effects like Dredge (only one I can remember off the top of my head.) You might know what I'm referring to but I don't remember what those are called. My fault on miscommunication.
  16. Sure. I suppose if I needed to articulate it into one specific question, go with: "Does the God Beyond have any major influence or involvement on minor Shardworlds?"
  17. I'm considering going to the upcoming pre-release event. I have not played since the original Ravnica set and mostly only played during Ravnica and Guildpact. I honestly have little experience building my own decks and I don't remember some rules (mainly certain effects) and I would definitely have no knowledge regarding any newer effects. Should I even bother? You can play online for free through programs like Cockatrice and XMage. Games like Duels of the Planeswalkers are standalone and all you can buy are deck packs to unlock cards. You don't get access to all cards like normal real-life, or Wizards' online, Magic. Customization is very minimal.
  18. Welp I'm primarily focusing on Dawn of War II now. Beat the main campaign and moved on to Chaos Rising. I plan to play more Outland, Shovel Knight, and Child of Light afterwards.
  19. I was surprised you didn't know since you're essentially Adonalsium of the Forum. Even I knew and I have trouble keeping up with everything. I'm glad you guys are around. This is gonna be a grand thirty years of theory-crafting with you goobers.
  20. I just realized. If Odium is scared of Harmony -- despite being heavily restricted in what he (Sazed) can do -- I would assume Odium is scared because of the power of two combined Shards. I wonder if we'll eventually see triple-or-quad-Shard groupings eventually. Man, that'll be neat.
  21. I'd just like to ask again if someone could ask a simple question for me at one of the upcoming signings. The question would be along the lines of a possible correlation between the involvement of the God Beyond (or its faction, same thing maybe) and his novellas that are set on minor Shardworlds (like Threnody and Sixth of the Sun.) I live in Northwest Florida and nobody important ever comes anywhere near my city so I can't ever get a chance myself. I would greatly appreciate this if anyone is able to ask.
  22. I just hope he doesn't give in to fanbase wishes and declare a pointless sexuality for her just to soothe shippers. Personally, I like the Cosmere because of the meta, and how intricate and crazy it is going to become. Not for romance. But that's obviously my personal opinion.
  23. So Sixth might be a worldhopper. That's interesting. Also nice to see Brandon has good taste in games. Demon's Souls was always the best Souls game.
  24. So they're /that/ prominent Cosmere-wise? Neat. I hope we find out about Southern Scadrial. Guess it's a good thing Mistborn turned into four trilogies. inb4 we get five trilogies by the time it's all over with. I was thinking that too. I don't believe AoL was counted in the original total so I guess we're up to what, forty planned novels? I forget if novellas and short stories were counted in that. I just hope Brandon stays healthy and finishes all of this work. If he dies, I'mma have to kill him.
