  1. I suppose it could be a sort of subconscious Intent, kind of like how an Allomancer's body can have the Intent to burn pewter when it senses the need; the Mistborn burning Atium doesn't consciously recognize the need to dodge from the unseen arrow, but their subconscious (the body?) does, so the Mistborn dodges. Perhaps Fortune follows a similar principle except that it's entirely subconscious, having the user follow through with a certain action to achieve their current Intent without logically knowing why they are doing it.
  2. Yeah, that makes sense. Ah well, the more you know
  3. That fact has made me wonder if someone found a way to supercharge A-electrum if it would have a similar effect to A-Atium, since the mental enhancement should increase as well.
  4. I'm pretty sure I've done a thread before on using Forgery to remove Savantism. However, what if someone tried to use Forgery to grant Savantism? Let's have a fun little story to go with this idea; There is a Tineye that works for the Ghostbloods named Jake. Jake, somewhat naturally, doesn't want to permanently suffer the ill effects of Savantism, but knows that with it's power he could accomplish a lot more for his organization. Shai is his friend and creates a Soulstamp for Jake to turn him temporarily into a Savant so that he can get the benefits of it when he needs it and so that he can remove the downsides when he is done with using it. Does this sound like a plausible thing to do?
  5. A few thoughts I had on Spore Eaters and such: I was re-reading ToES last night when I realized something; Spore Eaters are protected by their Aether. Aethers can be cut/killed/destroyed with silver. A silver bullet or silver lined weapon (such as the axes the crew had) could have killed Crow, as her Aether wouldn't have been able to repel those attacks. If the crew had known about this, it would have made her defeat a lot more manageable- I guess knowledge really is power. As a side note, I bet that Aether would be an effective way to protect from aluminum bullets (when things like F-gold, A-pewter, and Surgebinding can't) since we've seen that Aethers can handle touching aluminum just fine. So, a Gold Compounder Spore Eater would be very tough to kill- their Aether protects them from aluminum bullets that would normally bypass their healing factor and their F-gold heals the damage cause by silver bullets (I suppose a bullet made of silver and aluminum could be used though ).
  6. Quick thought that came to me earlier: When an Allomancer burns Atium, they see the future of all things nearby that isn't themselves. When electrum is burned they see only their own future. Basically, do you guys think that their would be some synergy between the two powers? For instance, would a Mistborn burning both get some slight advantage in combat compared to a Mistborn only burning Atium (just to clarify, not two Mistborn fighting each other- two Mistborn fighting other people but using metals to see the future)?
  7. Wouldn't their Surgebinding count as a form of muscle memory? I don't see how they could forget to move their body around but still remember perfectly how to use their powers. Kaladin is a little over 24 Earth years old, if I'm correct. That still puts him at an enormous disadvantage in terms of experience against any Fused, yet he still consistently beats them. Yeah, that's kind of how I feel about them honestly. That's something else that's really bothered me; how is it that the Heralds are so skilled compared to the Fused?
  8. Good point. I suppose you could compare it to Wayne's use of A-steel in TLM; he could do it and use it effectively in combat (he shot some guards with some metal and Steeljumped at least once from what I recall), he just wasn't exactly grade-A material while doing so. Do you mean the teenager who literally had to call upon deus ex machina to beat him, and who had had her mentor's steps to bring down said frickn' Fullborn guided by an ancient super-intellect that had a thousand years to do nothing but scheme? Just saying, I don't really think of those situations in the same light, but I suppose that could just be my opinion. Okay, that's a fair point- they're probably not exactly on their A-game due to having just woken up from millennia of slumber. I just wish that the Fused (or at least some of them) were made into a much bigger threat; if a single Fused showed up on the battlefield the characters would have to basically dogpile them just to stand a real chance. Basically, think of the fight with Ishar- if the Fused were like that but marginally easier (in that they do actually end up getting beaten by the end of the fight) I'd be a lot more satisfied with them as an enemy.
  9. I love literally everything about this scenario (also, I could totally see this being the way it shakes down). Sorry I couldn't give you more than one reputation!
  10. An interesting battle. Seers have the ability to dodge and hit perfectly for one hour, but Windrunners have the ability to heal from even the most severe injuries and can Lash. It would likely be a battle of attrition- of whether the Seers can shoot the Windrunners with enough arrows (if we assume they have bows) to overwhelm their healing, and if they can modulate their burn of Atium to outlast their opponents. If the Windrunners can Reverse-Lash the Seers (assuming they aren't too Invested from burning a Godmetal) the battle becomes much more one sided, though from what we've seen in RoW, no one Kaladin knows has had a great deal of practice with that particular use of their powers (okay, Szeth does, but we aren't talking about him here). Or, I suppose they could Reverse-Lash the Seer's weapons, which are not Invested- but again, they don't have training with that ability. I think that Koloss would fare far better against Kalad's Phantoms than a human army- they are very strong, and they use their "swords" more like maces than bladed weaponry, so with 10 to 1, I think the Koloss would easily trump the Phantoms. Marsh has more physical enhancements and powers than Vasher, including the ability to fly, use a limited form of telekinesis, and regenerate from most non-Invested attacks. However, Vasher has hundreds of years of skill, and he has Nightblood. Now, that wouldn't be an automatic win, but if Vasher can drop Nightblood for the Koloss to use, I think that they would be particularly susceptible to its influence (they're already bloodthirsty, even without having their Spiritwebs cracked open to outside influence). I think that if Vasher were to play his cars right and dump Nightblood into the midst of Marsh's army that the Koloss would kill themselves while his Phantoms protect him from the others. Marsh himself might be particularly vulnerable to Nightblood's emotional influence due to the large number of spikes he has. So basically, if Vasher is smart (which he is), he probably wins. Unless Marsh has Atium, in which case he might be able to overwhelm Vasher, Nightblood notwithstanding. I have to agree; the Fused are an absolute joke of an enemy. When Kaladin was being chased by the Pursuer my only thought was, "how is it that this idiot is so feared? How on Roshar has he- apparently- been able to consistently kill Radiants throughout the history of the Desolations?" They have thousands of years of experience fighting and using their Surges- yet somehow they are frequently outclassed by Radiants who are barely older than teenagers. Yeah, I actually felt bad for Sadeas's army; they got possessed by what are essentially demons, then got slaughtered while they were in a mind-fog and barely lucid. Then whoever survived afterward probably became slaves for said "demons" that would eventually spend their lives on menial labor or becoming cannon fodder. They really got the short end of the stick by my accounting.
  11. Good catch- if a Kandra can do that (which we've seen they clearly can), they probably can reproduce with humans. What's interesting then, is that a Kandra's shapeshifting is going to be entirely magical in nature- otherwise they'd get stuck into the first form they copied because their DNA and cellular structure would change and prevent them from further changes. This means that any offspring the Kandra have with humans may end up with at least a portion of this ability, perhaps allowing them to change shape still, though maybe not to the same extent. After all, Warbreaker spoilers:
  12. Lol, One thing you could get from this combo (or any A-Bendalloy Twinborn) is storing Feruchemically while inside a Speedbubble- then you could gather more of an attribute over a shorter period of time. This wouldn't be very useful to use all the time- Bendalloy is relatively rare and you have to deal with other side effects (such as being awake for longer than a full day if a sufficient amount of time is spent in the bubble or aging more quickly), but if you were in a situation like Sazed was in while rescuing Vin in TFE, you could get enough of a Feruchemy boost to make a difference. That's how I understand it as well. There are some other questions I have about it at this time (such as how you control what potential path you take, since you aren't able to see and determine logically as you do with A-electrum and A-Atium), but a gut feeling is probably the most accurate way to describe it right now.
  13. SA, ToES, and Elantris spoilers:
  14. Elantris and ToES spoilers:
  15. If you're going to be using the Surge of Abrasion to speed up movement (by slicking the ground), you could end up exceeding the G-force that Feruchemical steel provides direct resistance to. Some Allomantic pewter could seriously help with that, particularly if you find a way to supercharge it somehow (via Bondsmith, AonDor, or perhaps nicrosil Compounding)- we've seen that a person can use Allomantic duralumin and steel to go from a standstill to moving like a bullet, so clearly A-pewter could be helpful for someone facing high Gs (plus A-pewter gives you a little extra boost of speed on its own).
  16. A good question. Brandon has been asked this before, but it seems that he isn't sure yet whether he wants to make it possible for a Kandra to be able to reproduce with a human yet- it would likely end up depending on whether Kandra DNA is actually different from humans or whether they can mimic even cells with their shapeshifting.
  17. I think that it's worth noting that Fortune and accessing the Spiritual Realm to see the future aren't necessarily synonymous; you can use Fortune to access the Spiritual Realm, but when you access the Spiritual Realm you aren't always utilizing Fortune. There was a thread made recently about the nature of Fortune and what it might look like in action (here's a link- note, it's in the Cosmere discussion forum, so it has Cosmere related spoilers: Precog: stormlight and chromium). Just imagine Breeze, but if he had literal deus ex machina on his side whenever he pleased. I would love to see such a character in action. Glad to see your ideas! I think that reducing your weight might help a little bit with jumping since we've seen with Wax that his strength get proportionally stronger when storing, but not significantly- plus, as you mention, reducing your weight enough will make air resistance become a real problem. Now, if you had a Twinborn with A-pewter and F-iron I bet they could jump pretty high by reducing their weight and increasing strength- and they might even have a Resonance that helps them with jumping better due to the combination of powers.
  18. Ah, yes, that makes sense. And yeah, his Connection to Preservation is almost certainly what's keeping him alive (though it might be that his soul is "expanded" enough to continue to survive on its own at this point), so he'd likely need a new valid Connection to keep him around and kicking.
  19. Sounds possible, though It very well may be that "Discordium" will become it's own metal, since it seems that Discord is it's own sort of shadow of Harmony that is coming into being. I also say this because Harmonium's other aspects (such as being able to build Harmonium bombs) would likely change along with it, and that seems like a waste of a unique opportunity.
  20. Well, we do know that F-duralumin is used somehow to create Unsealed Metalminds, and that if someone were to tap Connection while storing in a Metalmind that it would have some effect on the process. I imagined that either it was a kind of medallion hack (not something possible with F-duralumin alone) or that a Connector Ferring can do as you suggest and choose to store a Blanked Connection- one that automatically reaches out and Connects to the nearest "whatever" that the Connection is meant to attach to. RoW spoilers: Very interesting implications indeed. When they say "Blank Connection", I think that it means that the Investiture knows it's meant to Connect to some kind of specific thing (in this case, a birthplace, or at least a location) but it doesn't have a specific target, which causes it to reach out to the nearest thing it's meant to Connect to (in this case, the nearest location). As to how you Blank Connection in a Duraluminmind, I don't know. I don't know that I understand your line of reasoning. I was thinking that Kelsier could store his Connection to Scadrial, thus allowing him to leave the planet if he chose, but that he can't use the power in the first place- he mentions in TLM that he desperately wants to re-obtain the Metallic Arts, but doesn't yet know how. In any case, this would explain why F-duralumin can store Connection but why it hasn't allowed Kelsier to leave Scadrial yet. Agreed; if someone were to randomly get a good feeling about someone else but not talk to them, they'd likely still forget about them pretty quickly.
  21. This is something I've thought I had understood several times already, but once again I'm considering my past assumptions. Okay, we know from the Ars. Arcanum that a Connector Ferring can form positive relationships more quickly with someone else by tapping F-duralumin (or reduce others' awareness of them by storing). I once took this to mean that F-duralumin had to store the ability to form Connections naturally, not Connection itself, since those friendships are formed and should presumably remain. However, we see in BoM that when you tap Blank Connection from a medallion to Connect to a different land and understand the language, the Connection only lasts as long as you tap it- it isn't a permanent formation of Connection, it's a temporary boost to a specific type of Connection, similar to how F-pewter only boosts your muscle mass as long as you tap it. So, I'm now thinking that F-duralumin does actually store Connections that already existed in the Feruchemist. Why is it that Allik can tap Connection to the Basin, allowing him to communicate with Marasi and the gang in BoM even though he doesn't have that Connection naturally (and neither do any of the Malwish who could have made the medallion)? It's Blank Connection (to land), which reaches out to the nearest location, in this case the Elendel Basin. As for friendships that get formed under the effect of F-duralumin? Well, technically we didn't get confirmation on them staying formed, just that they can be formed more quickly (that was a presumption I'm a bit embarrassed to have made, as it really hasn't been confirmed). If the friendships do stay, it likely would be like with Emotional Allomancy- the memories of the feelings made while under the effects of the Investiture stay, which continue to have effects on the behavior of those effected, even though the external effect has ceased. And as for the problem with Kelsier? He's trying to overcome his Connection limitation that binds him to Scadrial so that he can explore the wider Cosmere, and he's had over three-hundred years to obtain and experiment with the power. However, as we've seen in TLM, he can't use Hemalurgy to grant himself powers (medallions are dubious as well- probably doesn't work either based on his dialog, though that hasn't been confirmed yet). It doesn't matter if F-duralumin could be used to store his Connection to Scadrial enough to let him run free because he can't even use the power in the first place! In any case, I think that F-duralumin does in fact store Connection- I just overthought the problem a LOT. If anybody has any other information to challenge this, please let me know so that I don't get the incorrect impression again (and of course, as usual, I'd enjoy a good conversation/debate ).
  22. I'm not currently a member of this guild (don't even know how to join, actually) but I'm a big fan of Feruchemical duralumin. It's one of my favorite Invested powers in the Cosmere- only Feruchemical chromium truly rivals it in my opinion for mysteriousness and theoretical application for someone who knows what they are doing (okay, well, Hemalurgy may be cooler in my opinion, but my name kind of gives that away ). This is indeed possible- you can store different types of Connections (or at least the ability to form them- it's not understood well right now), similar to Feruchemical tin. And then there is a quote from the Stormfather regarding certain types of Connections. RoW spoilers: I'll probably be making another post soon on the nature of Feruchemical duralmumin, but I'll put it in the Mistborn discussion forum since it will have more spoiler related content.
  23. Yup, that's a real possibility if enough people ended up using it over a long enough period of time. Might even be how the majority of Scadrial end up learning about the Cognitive Realm- accidentally creating a Perpendicularity as a by-product of amassing too much of societies memories in a relatively small location.
  24. Interesting ideas! So, let me clarify; you're saying that due to the nature of the Realms, the Bindpoints that show up on parts of the donor's body will be necessary for the recipient- basically, you spike out A-pewter from a Misting and graft it onto another person, but it has to be grafted onto the same (or at least similar enough) Bindpoint? I think that makes sense; we've seen that some spiritual concepts, such as distance when determining Connection, do matter when in the physical Realm. I could see the same concept applying to Hemalurgic Bindpoints, with physical locations on the body corresponding to spiritual aspects. I had a similar idea recently where you would take a donor, spike out their Investiture (not attributes, Innate Investiture, such as in TLM), but leave the spike in the donor. The spike allows them to hold onto most of their Investiture until they die of natural causes and the spike can be harvested later so that others can benefit from it (Another, Better Way to Use Hemalurgy?). I do want to mention though, I don't know that a F-gold medallion can allow someone to repair damage done by Hemalurgy. SA spoilers: In any case, I liked reading about this hypothesis. Good job!
  25. Why do you say that? I don't want to bash you for your opinion, I'm merely curious. That was my line of reasoning as well. I really wanted Marasi and Wax to get together for a while, but I eventually came to the conclusion that Wax and Steris fit really well together. But, that's my opinion, of course.
