Ravenclawjedi42’s crew!

Technically possible; just get a lot of aluminum jugs Honestly, I've never played it myself, but I've tried looking into the mechanics recently and it seems like it could be a blast. A modified version of D&d with a Mistborn theme could also be fun. -

You know, that could make a pretty fun quest for a MAG campaign. -
Oh yeah, if you could find a way to supercharge Hemalurgic spikes (such as Blanking Identity and combining multiple donor's Investiture) you could do some crazy things. Ascended Steelsight BoM style should be possible with enough power, though it probably would have to be a lot- stronger than what the original Lerasium beads provided. Moving metal inside someone else's body would also be feasible, as would pushing on trace metals. Not sure that would work; you Snap because you have latent Investiture inside your Spiritweb that is large enough to become a functional Allomantic power. Sufficient trauma or some other extreme emotion (people have, apparently, Snapped due to sheer joy before in Scadrial's past) "unlocks" this Investiture, possibly programming at the same time. So you'd get a powerful Hemalurgic spike, but it wouldn't increase your own Innate Investiture and make you Mistborn. Additionally, you couldn't become Mistborn via sheer Investiture inside the spikes as those are tied to specific Bindpoints; even if the spikes managed to "Snap" and become new powers, you likely couldn't use more than four at once due to Bindpoint placement. Still, it's a cool idea, and one I hadn't considered before. You can't actually increase the Allomantic or Feruchemical potential of a bloodline via Hemalurgy; it's been tired by the Steel Inquisitors before and it didn't work- for some reason, certain characteristics brought on by Hemalurgic spikes can be passed down, but not Invested powers. Maybe if you Allomantically burn the spikes and fully splice them into your Spiritweb you could do that, but I doubt the cost- whatever it is- would be worth it. You may very well just mess up your Spiritweb and not get any powers out of it. Yes, the more powerful your powers, the more Connected you are to the corresponding Shard. Ruin and probably not Preservation in this case due to the spike's Intent. Though I'm not fully certain at the moment- Hemalurgy's mechanism of Connection and Investiture still isn't fully understood.

Totally going to make a meme out of that

I think that it would be more difficult than that. I mean, you could possibly make a metal bullet that buzzed to an Anti-Tone, but I don't think that it would have the same effect as something like a Raysium dagger that contained Anti-Light; it would possibly be able to repel the Investiture of someone it hit (with an effect being similar to A-chromium), but it wouldn't blow up their Soul, I would think. I do think that it may be possible to do this with Hemalurgic spikes though; program the Investiture of a spike to become Anti-Investiture and then stab it into someone to annihilate their Spiritweb. Already made a thread about it on the Cosmere discussion forum actually.

As of yet, we haven't seen any Aluminum Medallions on screen, but if they could be created it almost certainly would allow Hemalurgic donors to Blank their Identity long enough to let the harvested power become Blanked too. A Hemalurgic spike holding that power would likely work too. Unfortunately, yes, I could see that happening in Scadrial's future, especially if the Southern continent declares war on the North. Then there would be a new level of desperation for any advantage that could be brought to bear, and desperation often causes people to do extreme things. . .

You mean could the bullet be given the correct Intent to take attributes/powers Hemalurgically? Yes, I see no reason as to why that wouldn't work. Yeah, you probably need to hit the right bindpoint, so Wax-levels of precision would be necessary in most cases. But should be theoretically possible, if very difficult. You know, I don't think that you'd even need to be a Connector Ferring to make ranged Hemalurgic weapons; if a spike gun works, a regular bullet with the right metal composition should too. In fact, I bet that if a gunsmith created a gun with the correct Intent, it would be able to perform Hemalurgy even without the person firing it having the Intent- we've seen something similar happen with Navani creating a plate that could create Odium's Anti-Tone even without her continual Intent after its creation. The Bindpoint would still be necessary though, so it wouldn't be likely to do much unless the person firing the gun was attempting to use Hemalurgy and aimed accordingly. An interesting topic with some juicy Realmatics to delve into. Thanks @Tamriel Wolfsbaine !

Ooooh, the increase of traits could be interesting to see used in that way. The Set's plan on increasing Allomantic or Feruchemical potential via Hemalurgy would have failed due to the fact that powers granted through Hemalurgy don't pass on down to the Hemalurgist's children.

I had considered that before, but yeah, that's kind of an important distinction. No idea which one it is yet though. I would be interesting to see if there could be something created like the Koloss-blooded, but with an intelligence boost from parents that received Hemalurgic copper rather than a strength boost from Hemalurgic iron.

It is possible to Hemalurgically spike Spren. But what would it really do? I have a hypothesis; if you spike a Spren (or, at least if you spike out certain things) and implant the spike correctly in somebody you will give them a Singer Form, since that's basically what Singers do naturally. Singers themselves wouldn't have much use for this, but a human could potentially get a Singer Form available to them this way; for example, spiking a Painspren could give an approximation of Warform to a human. It also might make it easier for the human to hear the Rhythms. It also makes me wonder about Radiant Spren Forms. My guess is that you'd get something similar to the Fused- Forms exaggerated in some way similar to a Fused's Form, like how Rabboniel was unnaturally tall and lanky.

I've been thinking about Koloss-blooded a lot more recently, and I had another thought regarding them; most humans on Scadrial have a greater amount of Preservation than Ruin, hence the reason Allomancy pops up occasionally. But what about Koloss-blooded? They were born of Koloss after all- creatures that have a stronger Connection to Ruin. So, would a Koloss-blooded have a larger amount of Ruin than Preservation inside them? Could Koloss-blooded Allomancers draw from Ruin instead of Preservation? And what about Hemalurgy? Could they bear more spikes than most because their Spiritweb wouldn't reject a higher level of spikes due to not having more Preservation present to suppress their Ruin (that's a guess, not a fact btw)? What are all of your guy's thoughts on this? I'd love to hear.

We know Harmony tweaked something about either the Koloss or the mechanics of Hemalurgy to let them breed true. All other parts are purely speculation. I apologize; I now see that I presented some of my ideas as if it were fact, not merely postulation. I'm usually better at separating the two.

Yeah, I think I am as well, since that option would continue to accept that Allomantic and Feruchmical potential granted by Hemalurgy cannot be transferred genetically. Not sure, though if two KB were to have a child together, I suspect that their unique genes would be preserved. Intermixing with humans would dilute those Koloss genes though, just as we see in Tarson.

An interesting take. So basically, you're saying that if you use a really long wire to spike multiple people simultaneously who have the same potential for a Metalborn power you could grant that power to one of those people? I think that could potentially work, assuming that Allomantic powers are preprogrammed and don't gain a set of instructions after Snapping. However, I don't know that you'd strictly need the wire to accomplish this task. A simple spike would probably do it. It is also worth noting that Identity contamination could still be an issue that you'd have to deal with, which may (and I say may because some powers have worked on and off from these types of spikes) prevent the combining of Investitures to make a fully functional power. Additionally, Compounding most likely wouldn't be possible due to Identity contamination. However, it would be interesting to what else happens if you spike two or more people together with a spike-wire; since their souls are both touched by the same Hemalurgic charge could they interact telepathically (or at least empathically) while they are bound together? Interesting. So you hypothesize that without taking the Investiture forcibly from the donor that the resulting powers would be weakened? That could be interesting. It would mean that villainous characters would continue to have a hand up on their heroic counterparts. Don't know if that is how it will turn out, but if it does I could see some cool worldbuilding coming about as a result. Perhaps you could make one of the ends of the wire have a spiked head to make it easier to thread through your patients? Also, it makes me wonder whether or not you could take a bunch of links- a chain- and use that instead of a wire to provide greater durability and flexibility to the device, particularly considering the fact that some of the Hemalurgic metals aren't very flexible. This would surely depend on whether or not it's the Cognitive portion of the "spike" that matters for an object or not; this would only work if the Investiture saw the spike and chain as a whole object, not just the tip as an object to Invest. But maybe this design would work better.

I was on a thread recently that's been talking about Koloss-blooded people and things regarding them, which got me thinking about why Koloss' children are so different from their parents. The first hypothesis was that the Koloss just happen to pass on different genes to their children than what they possess. Which technically could be what's going on, but literally no other creature in existence works that way; they try to pass on a slight variation of the genes they have, not an extreme mutation. Sazed could have done some shenanigans with this, but ultimately it just doesn't make sense that he'd do that. The second hypothesis was that Koloss DNA changes into whatever the Koloss-blooded child's DNA will be when it leaves the body of the Koloss, kind of like how a Soulstamp won't continue to affect a part of the body that was lost- it would revert to its normal form after the Stamp (or in this case spikes) stopped having a direct effect on it. Only problem is, that isn't how the spikes work; they cause a permanent change to the Koloss's body, even after they die. If a Koloss's arm doesn't change back to a human's upon leaving their body, neither would their genetic code. The third hypothesis was that Koloss have the same DNA that Koloss-blooded do. The Koloss's spikes would work as a magical component that would keep up part of their transformation, but their DNA would pass on to their offspring. After all, the Cognitive Aspect of the Koloss reverts to being human after death, so this would almost make sense. . . except that, once again, the spikes aren't like Soulstamps; the same problem as with hypothesis #2 occurs here, where the spikes simply don't grant a temporary physical transformation, it's a permanent thing. So, my final- and I believe plausable- hypothesis is that Koloss simply can't give all their genetic code over to their children. Basically, the spikes of the Koloss add to their spiritual (and by extension) physical DNA, causing them to change from humans into Koloss. However, the code in the spikes is nontransferable; the same thing happens when a Steel Inquisitor tries to pass on their Hemalurgically granted powers to their offspring- the genes in the spikes just don't make the leap from parent to child. This would also explain why Koloss couldn't have children before Harmony intervened; any time they tied to have kids, the genes they passed on were mangled because they were filled with holes as the Hemalurgic spikes didn't pass on their portion of the Koloss's DNA, meaning that the child wouldn't have been able to form properly, and the cells would simply never have formed correctly to make a new organism. However, when Harmony stepped in and tweaked the system, he allowed the spikes to pass a spliced version the Koloss genes, allowing a new being to be created, though without parts of the genetic code of its parents. This would also explain why Koloss-blooded have some vestigial traits of Koloss, but why they are mostly human- Hemalurgy is less brutal now than it once was, allowing for Spiritwebs holding the spikes to pass on some small portion of the Spikes' contents. Or, possibly, instead of the Spikes themselves passing on part of their code, the portion of the Koloss DNA passed on splices itself into a usable set of genes, but is still slightly twisted from the spikes' code, hence the reason Koloss-blooded have some residual traits of their Koloss parents. That one may also be possible. Hmm. Perhaps I've put a little too much thought into this. . .

I thought that Wax mentioned in AoL chapter 19 when he saw Tarson that KB would continue to grow throughout their lives. So they continue to grow, but probably slower than full Koloss.
-
Yeah, I've wondered that too. Same with full-blooded Koloss. Personally, I think that it's possible that self-perception would come into play; a Koloss or KB who thought that viewed themselves as being a certain size that also had the 5th Heightening would stay that way, while one who saw themselves as continuing to grow would keep doing so until they died. Or, since the growth isn't strictly tied to aging it wouldn't matter if they were the 5th Heightening, they'd just keep growing until they died of giantism. Also makes me wonder what would happen if a Koloss or KB tapped Feruchemical youth. Would that work better than 5th Heighting for them? I guess it would depend on whether their growth is more like that of muscle growth and therefore it is independent of age or not.

Elendel on Scadrial- I can live a mostly normal life but get to study the Metallic Arts. Plus, the Metallic Arts will almost certainly become something that can be purchased by anybody in Scadrial's future, making the prospect of living there all the more alluring.

I had no idea the number of puns this would create. . . oh goodness, what have I done (Lol, ) Thanks! I strive for innovation Yeah, being able to swap out spikes on a human without needing something like F-gold would be very handy. If you're willing to downsize, you could use a much smaller. . . wire?- I'm so used to just saying spike- The main body portion of the Hemalurgic metal could be made smaller so as to be easily portable. Perhaps the whole design really could just be a wire coiled inside a small aluminum chamber that is then strapped to a housebreaker-harness to hold it in place (since it isn't embedded deeply into the Hemalurgist). The "spikes" could be moved to where they were needed on the bearer and easily swapped out- you may not even need to draw blood if you've done so in the area before (just like Wax's earring). Actually, maybe you could scrap the whole wire concept for the miniature spikes. Just put a small half-circle of metal with a small spike jetting out in an aluminum chassis and have a spring-loaded device to have the spike implant into the bearer when triggered. This would prevent the spike from decaying as they are essentially coated with aluminum when not inside a person and it would make swapping spikes quick and easy. Plus, as an added bonus the aluminum coating would prevent Coinshots or Lurchers from effecting the spikes even when outside a body. Basically, you'd have half-sphere "disks" that you'd slap into place and active by twisting or something, which would unleash the springs and let the spiked portion pierce the Hemalurgist, allowing them to use the powers contained in the "spike". Huh. Well, personally, I think that could be a cool concept for advanced Hemalurgic spikes. Thanks for the inspiration @JustQuestin2004, I appreciate it

I thought he was more like 6'8", but I hopped onto the arcanum and you're right, Kaladin's actually more like 7' in Scadrien terms. Still, Parnell's only 22 and KB continue to grow throughout their lives. He easily could get taller than Kal at some point. That brings up another question; how much taller do KB get after reaching maturity, and how quickly?
-
@Tamriel Wolfsbaine whoa! Parnell's backstory and motivations are really cool! It's awesome for a reason I can't fully describe to see such a fleshed-out concept as the Koloss-Blooded. Really liked the facial tattoos and the spike-themed earrings too. Also, didn't notice this at first, but he's 6'10". . . that's a lot. Taller than Kaladin even. I know that KB are supposed to get taller over time, but that's still a lot.

Elantrian vs. Radiant. [SA 5 spoilers]
Trusk'our replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yup, which ironically would make them less capable when something that did want to mess them up came along. Yeah, Aon Daa at full power probably would be pretty damaging; it blasted Dakhor Monks that were all but impervious to normal blades to blackened bits of charred meat. . . not a good visualization. Plate would probably fair somewhat better, but it wouldn't stand for more than a few hits I would think. -
Thanks! I appreciate the support and will continue to do my best to come up with more tricks Kandra could pull (I might have to get more specific and less general though). Oh, absolutely. They just need to practice, and most Kandra aren't all that venturous with their abilities. Maybe we'll see more of MeLaan pulling cool tricks in the future though. Out of curiosity, why don't you think they'd be OP on Scadrial itself? EDIT: Here's some more tricks. 21. Hibernation: If a Kandra ever felt the need to conserve energy/oxygen (space travel or perhaps being marooned?) they could learn to go into a state of suspended animation, such as when humming birds go into a torpor in order to conserve energy when not constantly eating. 22. Pickpocket master: A fairly simple skill, yet one that would be quite interesting to see play out; a Kandra could absorb small objects that they palm to and instantly become Scadrial's best pickpocket by hiding small stolen objects inside their body. 23. Masterful magician: Similarly, a Kandra could use their ability to hide objects inside their body to wow an audience and perform magic tricks that even the most skilled magician couldn't replicate. 24. Fake crime scene: A Kandra could, with the help of a few True Bodies, replicate a murder scene by using parts of their own body. Not sure why it would be necessary, but maybe they could intimidate people who entered the prepared site? Well, that and having the best Halloween horror house that is 25. Membrane parachute: Even though a Kandra likely wouldn't die from falling, it could seriously damage whatever skeleton they are using at the time or any objects they happen to have on their person. A Kandra could use their bones as scaffolding to hold their flesh as they widen their surface area and parachute safely down from great heights. Maybe a little more difficult than I make it sound, but I think it could be made to work. 2nd EDIT: I guess I'll just keep editing his same post to prevent from double-posting. 26. Genetic notebook: Kandra have precise control over even very small parts of their body. Brandon has stated that he isn't quite ready to decide whether Kandra could hide from a DNA test yet, so it isn't clear whether Kandra can change their actual DNA or not. However, if they could than they could use a small portion of non-active DNA to record information (sort of like in Legion: skin Deep). This would allow the Kandra to remember things almost as well as an Archivist, the notes could be recorded without anybody around them catching on, and the notes would be very, very difficult to steal or destroy if done correctly. If they can't affect their actual DNA, they could instead create a slightly larger sequence of proteins or some other microstructure inside their body to act as the internal notebook. 27. Cloning: This one works on the same principles as the last. If a Kandra took the genetic sequence of another creature, they could perfectly replicate it and grow an exact copy of them. Note, this isn't the same as mimicing their form, the Kandra would basically grow a cloned version of other creature inside them to become an entirely new organism. 28. Cultivating species: This is another one that also builds on the assumption that Kandra can affect DNA with their abilities. The Kandra could take some of the genetic code of a creature, let's say a dog for example, and then mix it inside their own body with a new genetic sequence. Basically, they could create new hybrids of the original creature, though it would take a lot of practice (and possibly some SR sight) to get it down. It may even be possible for the Kandra to form entirely new species all together if they get the process mastered. You know, it just occurred to me that if the Kandra get involved enough in Scadrial's scientific studies that it would give the planet a serious head start on biology and medicine over other planets. . . 29. Geco hands/feet: This one would be cool, though harder to achieve. See, geckos achieve their amazing ability to climb walls and other flat surfaces by using millions of tiny hairs that use van der waals forces between atoms, molecules, and other intermolecular forces. But, while a Kandra couldn't make the hairs themselves, they could probably take them off of real geckos that they grew in a terrarium for that purpose. 30. Kandra implants: We've seen that a Kandra can replace a portion of another's body with their own (MeLaan did this with Marasi in BoM to patch up a bullet wound). It could be possible that a skilled enough Kandra could replace parts of a human body (or other creature for that matter) with new parts that the Kandra creates. They could use this not only to heal crippled individuals but could also use it to modify the appearance or improve the patient's physical abilities. ToES spoilers: I could even see this sort of thing becoming more widely used in later Scadrien eras, having a sort of "upgrade" available to those who can manage to pay an expert Kandra that doesn't conceal what they are from humanity. Only question is what the Kandra would want in payment, since they don't seem all that attached to money. . .

Lol, definitely Had no idea that character had a name. That's pretty cool. Question; if Parnell is a scholar, is he also a warrior, or does he only do scholarly things (I've never read the Misborn RPG)?
