  1. I recently found and read the MAG Alloy of Law expansion, and a part of it confused me; Sliverism is described in the book as being like a secretive cult, but I had always imagined Sliverism to be more like a somewhat less popular and progressive version of Survivorism and the Path. So my question is, how accurate is the MAG material on this matter? Can I trust this to be canonical?
  2. Welp, that got dark pretty fast.
  3. You're welcome Interesting. Yes, I think that if you layered the duralumin in sheets over the other metals that it could work, though melting it would be prefferable. I wonder if you dipped the metals that couldn't take duralumin's melting point in liquid nitrogen if that would stop them from melting until the duralumin layer cooled, kind of like how one makes fried ice cream. I imagine it working that way as well; the outer most layer of the metals burns first with the metals slowly shrinking inward during metabolism. I'll have to illustrate my layered metals I think, but I'll have to do that later. As for Marsh using duralumin, yes, that is a very, very powerful combo; Compounding takes Feruchemy up to the next level, as you can suddenly get very large stores of attributes without needing to sacrifice anything more than some metal flakes. Duralumin takes Compounding up to the next level, as suddenly you can create a store of Investiture in the blink of an eye rather than having to burn your Metalminds for however long it would normally take. Good points. I definitely agree with the idea of a better Coppercloud as you say; since a Seeker can sense the difference between flaring and regular burning (and there would be no difference in the metals pulse patterns), it is likely that it is even easier to detect duralumin bursts. Duralumin copper could definitely be useful to counter this. I hadn't thought of using cadmium and Bendalloy together in this way, as I normally just see them as cancelling out. But with a Slowness Bubble acting as a shield to deflect projectiles (and Bendalloy preventing it from slowing you down), I could see some use for cadmium in combat. I don't know about that one; Wayne was able to continue using his Bendalloy not because he had stores so vast that Dumad couldn't Leech all of them when he came into contact with Wayne, but because Wayne used his slight of hand to keep swallowing beads of Bendalloy. If Dumad used duralumin in conjunction with his chromium, he'd probably be worse off since he'd have lost all his Chromium stores and only have effected the metals currently inside Wayne's stomach.
  4. Thanks
  5. Nice. It's always good to have more Mistborn fans around! How far are you into the story?
  6. I feel the same way; he's certainly not perfect, but I don't really feel that he's a super villain waiting to blossom. Me too. It makes sense to me and it adds more depth to worldbuilding. To me it felt a bit like comparing apples to oranges; they just aren't built the same and can't be compared as such. The original Mistborn gave us a unique setting and magic and with the Mistborn themselves it laid the foundation for all Allomantic understanding (much easier to know about Allomancy from one character that can use all of it than 8-12 separate people who can use only part of it). Plus I liked the characters and whatnot. Era 2 felt more refined, and I personally liked the worldbuilding (which could only have been done after a beginning story set the foundation), characters, and minor changes to the magic (such as Twinborn and no more Mistborn or Full Feruchemists) even more than the first trilogy. I personally prefer the second era though. I'm super excited to read era three! Yeah, I like that the characters are more vulnerable in the original setting. Death is a very real thing there and it helps keep the story interesting. Stormlight Archive spoilers; I actually liked it too, mostly because it lent a different point of view from most other characters. He wasn't by any means my favorite character, but I'd rather have variety than stagnation. I do feel a little weirded out that there was absolutely no hint about his existence in book one though, and it felt like that he had to be retconned into the story to make it work. Personally, I really liked that Elend became a more viewpoint character, as it lent a new perspective and more variety. I also don't personally feel that Vin was all that gipped from her relationship with him either; she's already taking Ruin head on- a friend and partner help her out in ways that she doesn't excel or even like (such as leadership) felt like it made them a great power couple- that's honestly how I feel we should all work; we need to find someone who we can learn from and work together with even when the times are tough, because we won't ever be 100% competent in every area and we will have times that we are weak and need someone dependable to rely on. That's what I personally got from the Vin and Elend relationship, in any case. Eh, I didn't have a problem with his dialect for the most part, but that's just me. I actually didn't really like Spook's sections in HoA the first time I read it either (I wanted to be reading about Mistborn, not Mistings). As I read the Wax and Wayne series though I came to love the more limited powers and upon my reread of HoA I also came to love Spook's sections as much if not more than the others. I'm sorry to hear that. Might I ask why that is?
  7. Aaaaand now that Fjorden has discovered that I am not in fact a member of their race, I have now been stripped of my rank and exiled. I did however find, fight, and spike a malicious Spinner on my journey away from Sel. I guess I was just lucky.
  8. I like it! Keep up the good work and continue improving!
  9. Alright, sound pretty reasonable. (Sorry for the confusion earlier)
  10. I meant mostly that old spikes were being reused to create new Koloss.
  11. Okay.
  12. I was recently surfing the Guilds and clans forum when I stumbled upon the Koloss are people too foundation. A question was raised as to whether the Koloss' spikes should be confiscated so as to prevent any more people from being transformed into Koloss. Anyway, it got me thinking and I wondered what people's opinions were on the matter. So let's say you are an Elendel citizen that has heard of Koloss and how they are created. What would you do in such a situation? PLEASE don't devolve into fighting if you discuss your opinion; we just want to understand what others' thoughts are on the topic, that's all.
  13. True, but this is the Mistborn forum; I wanted to stay focused on Scadrien related things. Also true, but I was relating it to the use of duralumin in bursts, mostly for combat purposes. But if you wanted to skip lots of time duralumin and cadmium would be the way to go. Once again true; it would be useful against Compounders or certain Cosmere-wide entities.
  14. Depends on what you want to do, but if you're thinking combat then steel (but not iron; that would be a death wish), pewter, and possibly Bendalloy, though the extra speed wouldn't likely be all that useful compared to just burning it normally. Tin would just blind/deafen you- not a good power in conjunction with duralumin bursts. Bronze could pierce Copperclouds and sense things not normally detected through its power (such as when Vin was able to tell with perfect clarity what emotions Breeze was Soothing in Elend in WoA), so that would probably be useful if used correctly. Copper could do the opposite and briefly shield from basically any Bronzesense, but like Bendalloy wouldn't be terribly useful in a single blast or rapid burst. Cadmium freezes you in place for a while, actively harming you in most circumstances. Aluminum is a bad choice in general, and I see no reason why duralumin would change that. Nicrosil doesn't really change from duralumin. Probably. Emotional Allomancy could potentially stun enemies, so that would actually be a good option to use in duralumin bursts. So yeah, only steel, pewter, zinc, and brass would be super useful in duralumin bursts for a fight I would think (possibly bronze and Bendalloy too). I don't know that it would work that way; the reason the balls with layers don't burn all out is because you'd have a layer of duralumin between each of the other layers of metals, which stops the burning process of those metals via duralumin until the Allomancer burns the duralumin down enough to access the next layer. I don't think that having a divider would do anything since the metals would still be exposed to the Allomancer's stomach and would just end up being added to the metals the duralumin could burn through in a single burst; Allomancers can't choose specific metals in their stomach to burn (as far as we know)- otherwise they'd just burn some chosen flakes of metal with their duralumin and be able to pull off the burst feat without the layered metal balls. Interesting take though. EDIT: Yes, you can burn the duralumin alone if you wanted. This is why the ball layers would work; the duralumin doesn't burn through itself in a single blast, just other metals. So you burn through a layer of, for example, pewter, then become stopped by the next layer of duralumin. You burn through the duralumin layer briefly and then expose the next layer of metal which you want to burn. Might take some practice for the Allomancer to get the process down without just immediately setting off the next layer of metal with a duralumin blast, but I think that it could certainly be achievable.
  15. Personally, I think Oathbringer was my favorite of the SA; the culmination of Everstorm hitting the world that we had explored and come to care about really packed a punch. I also really love rereading WoR, as the Kaladin scenes are just some of the best.
  16. Awesome. Mistborn is my absolute favorite series and I love to talk about it and its unique magic system in the Mistborn and Cosmere forums. I really hope to see you and your own thoughts over there!
  17. It's always nice to meet a fellow Mistborn fan Welcome to the 17th Shard! Personally, I haven't been able to read Yumi yet, but I know it will be great! Hope to see you out in the Forums!
  18. Awesome! It's always good to hear from a new face! Welcome to the Shard! Personally, I think Mistborn is my favorite series (you could probably guess by seeing how active I am in that forum), but Stormlight is my second favorite.
  19. Nice to meet you, welcome to the Shard! Personally, Mistborn has been my all-time favorite series (I just love to think about all the magical interactions going on!) and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do! Hope to see you out in the forums!
  20. Glad to hear from you! Welcome to the 17th Shard! I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of mine!
  21. As some others already mentioned, Szeth and Kal hanging out. But I'd also like to see some more Tone and Rythm modification experiments by Navani and what is going on with Ishar's experiments with the Spren being given physical bodies.
  22. TLM hinted that the Bands of Mourning could do something like this, so it's probably possible via Allomancy of sufficient power. I don't know that you'd even technically need to be spiked is your natural Allomancy was strong enough and you burned a whole stomach of metal with duralumin at once (cheating with Hemalurgy or potentially nicrosil Compounding would make this way easier though). Training your stomach to hold more would definitely help too. You could also try having a single really large piece of Allomantically viable metal (like a multi-ton statue or block) that pierces a small part of the body, then see if that counts as technically being inside the body enough to burn it. That way you wouldn't need to become a pincushin. AonDor is pretty versatile. You could probably just replicate the Surge of Transportation to create a Perpendicularity instead of trying to brute force it. Dahkor may be able to do it as well, since we've seen that they can teleport so moving between Realms with their power may be feasible. Yup, pretty much. Just collet enough Breaths and you'd be able to move between Realms as you please. This would be particularly interesting to see happen with the Spiritual Realm. I honestly don't know enough about Aethers to make a good assumption about Perpendicularity creation via their system. Sand Mastery would be pretty hard, though I suppose if you managed to increase your power enough by repeatedly Overmastering, maybe you could create a functional sandstorm that also happens to act as a Perpendicularity. That assumes that there isn't some upper limit to how much Sandmasters can increase their inherent power, however, as you'd need a lot of power compared to what is normally available in that system. This would be the hardest to make a Perpendicularity out of, I'd think. Maybe if you Forged a lot of really small items (such as spoons or something) and crammed them into every square inch of a sizable room you could do it, but that's probably still not enough; there may just not be enough Investiture concentration in Forgery to make a Perpendicularity without hacking it somehow.
  23. I'll double that! I can't wait to hear your thought on the Shard!
  24. Thank you so much! Your kind words inspire me to draw bigger and better
