  1. When someone stores there Identity while filling another metalmind, that other metalmind becomes "unkeyed", allowing anyone with the relevant ability to tap it and use it as fuel for their ability. But what about the Identity itself? Can someone even tap an Identity mind, since it itself seems to be Identity keyed to someone else? Or does the investiture not count as having an Identity itself, only temporarily granting Identity to someone who taps it?
  2. When hemalurgy is used to grant an something to a creature, it warps them in some way. Spikes that grant powers only seem to change the individual enough to not kill them by ramming a chunk of metal into their body, but attributes granted via hemalurgy seem to change people and creatures enough to create hemalurgic constructs. Kandra, however, don't seem to be changed much by hemalurgic attributes being given to them, so that got me wondering; would a siah aimian or other shapeshifter be able to receive a kandra blessing without being twisted into a hemalurgic construct? Could a siah aimian's shapeshifting ability be stolen via hemalurgy, then allow a human to gain kandra blessings with less consequence?
  3. Alright, I was thinking about what would happen if someone wanted to make a sapient piece of investiture, similar to a spren or Nightblood. If investiture is left alone long enough, it gains a mind of its own, becoming sentient, and possibly even sapient. I was thinking feruchemy would be one of the easiest options, aside from awakening, so I will use this magic system for this post. From this quote, if you blank your Identity before you store your memories, or whatever other investiture you put in there, you might be able to allow the metalmind-mind (yes, that's what I'm calling it) to tap or otherwise benefit from the other sources of investiture there. This could allow you to help shape the personality of the metalmind-mind while its forming, and you can use a speed bubble, probably also using harmonium so you don't also get caught with it, to speed up the process. Boom. A sapient piece of investiture that you formed. Perhaps if you split pieces of the metalmind-mind off with raysium, you can create multiple, separate parts of the same entity that can still communicate with one another. Maybe you could use this process to create a magical spy network by placing these pieces throughout a city. Could compounding somehow be implemented to make a copy of the metalmind-mind, allowing you to manufacture "metallic servants", that are essentially AI? Could the sapient investiture inside the metalmind-mind move through surrounding pieces of metal, allowing it to flow and travel freely and escape from the metal that once held it? Could it somehow use a zinc metalmind to become a singularity of intelligence? Could it become a sort of magical AI dictator of future Scadrial, like a metalmind-Lord Ruler? (okay, this last one's just for kicks )
  4. Ah, so that explains why Vasher can leave his world. I thought that he needed some kind of Connection hack, but it appears that I may have been wrong.
  5. In Mistborn Secret History, Preservation mentions to Kelsier that both allomancers and feruchemists will last longer than a normal person, as they are more invested than a regular human. This is a bit confusing to me, because Brandon has said before that allomancers aren't particularly invested when they aren't currently burning a metal. So does this mean that an allomancer only stays a bit longer in the cognitive realm after dying if they were burning a metal when they died? Or is it the potential to become invested, the Connection to Preservation, that makes them last longer? As to another question I had in regards to becoming a cognitive shadow, do the bio-chromatic breaths that an awakener holds transfer with them to the cognitive realm when they die, and stay with them until they either find a way to come back as cognitive shadow or move to the Beyond? Or since they are primarily in the physical realm, they simply disperse? If an awakener were to come back as a returned, do they retain their breaths?
  6. Feruchemy is an end-neutral art, and doesn't draw from either Ruin or Preservation. Supposedly, it draws only from the feruchemist's own investiture, but how exactly does that work? Investiture cannot be created or destroyed, and since they don't seem to have a limited amount of investiture they can store if given enough time, it seems that they must get this investiture from somewhere else. Is there investiture in the spiritual realm that is free from Ruin or Preservation, or any shard, that they draw from? Do they convert the energy represented by other attributes, like body heat, into investiture? But attributes like strength snap back to what they were when the feruchemist stops storing, so how does that work compared to attributes like memory or energy?
  7. if you were to take A LOT of metal of a certain type, possibly via soulcasting, then were to fuse the metal into a huge interconnection of metalminds, could you then use compounding to fill it up, then tap it monumental amounts of raw power? This would be impractical for travel, and for battle, but you could use this for certain times that you could benefit from in the long term, such as a massive chromium mind, allowing you to see directly into the spiritual realm and see the future. Or a Zinc mind, making you into something like Tarivangian, but whenever you want, only with a movement limitation. Or perhaps duralumin, to do something bond-smith-like. Or, maybe a giant, massive boost of health to recover from serious soul damage. Any thoughts on this?
  8. While Sixth of the Dusk, I noticed that many of the creatures on Patji have a sort of "mind sense", that allows them to track and detect you by your mental signature. The Aviar seems to naturally be able to share their powers with someone they've bonded, but those powers can be taken by hemalurgy. Even so, it's apparently more complicated than taking most other invested arts, since the aviar has power over the bond, similar to radiant spren. But what if you try to spike powers out of the other creatures of Patji? They (presumably) don't rely on a bond to generate their powers, so you could take those with hemalurgy no problem, right? Although, do they even have the same range of abilities, or are aviar simply superior to them in this way? And one last thing about this concerning hemalurgy, does this mind sense count as an invested power, like allomantic powers, or is it an innate attribute, like strength or intelligence?
  9. Odium also doesn't like to expend large amounts of investiture, from what I can tell, since he prefers to corrupt other sources of investiture and bend them to his will instead. (Is that correct, or did I assume too much?)
  10. Hemalurgy works ripping off peices of someone's spiritweb, then stapling it into someone else's spiritweb to give them that stolen ability. But an allomancer who got their power from hemalurgy burns a metal, do they draw from Ruin, or Preservation? In addition, is the investiture inside the spike Preservation's investiture forced to work for that person, or is it a copy of the same ability, but made of Ruin's power?
  11. Nightblood works by absorbing and corrupting investiture, effectively turning it into more of itself. But it also has a maximum amount of investiture that it can hold, so much of this changed investiture leaks away. My question is, does this investiture stay a part of Nightblood's essence, retaining traits from it rather than the shard it originated from? And if this Nightblood investiture returns to the spiritual realm to pool together, will it eventually form a magic system?
  12. Sorry, what I meant was, a spike doesn't normally loose it's hemalurgic charge as long as it's in a body, but "leaky" investiture normally does this anyway. So if the "leaky" investiture is contained within a spike (specifically nicrocil) that is piercing someone, will the investiture still leak, or will it stay trapped within the spike?
  13. Would a forgery that was stolen and then granted by a hemalurgic spike be more permanent so long as it isn't allowed to decay? What's more, can forgeries held in spikes be granted to people other than those it was specifically made for, since hemalurgic spikes normally hold the Identity of those they were made from, and that doesn't seem to hinder their usefulness to others who don't share the Identity of the spike?
  14. It has been confirmed by Brandon Sanderson (can't remember the exact quote, but if really needed I can find it for you guys later), that Forgeries made to the spiritweb of an individual can be taken by a hemalurgic spike. If someone could then allomantically burn that spike, could that then permanently splice it to their spiritweb?
  15. We seen in Warbreaker (SPOILERS), that Vasher was able to teach a little girl how to remove some of here own memories in order to "heal" the trauma that she had experienced. Could Forgery be used in a similar manner, changing the spiritwebs of the Heralds (and Fused, for that matter), so that their memories of traumatic events no longer caused them to be insane?
  16. Forgery can manipulate your spiritweb into believing that your past was something other than what it was, allowing you to make changes to your present self. But, could you change certain "random" elements of your conception? For instance, could you make yourself taller, or have a slightly different facial structure, or be healed of physical defects?
  17. Hemalurgic spikes cannot directly steal breaths from a donor since they are too much within the physical realm, and not enough in the spiritual realm, where pretty much all of their ability to manipulate resides. However, all you need to do to get the breaths of a person is for them to willingly grant them to you. So, if you were to grant them spikes instead of trying to make a spike from them, and then you used emotional allomancy or some other method of mind controlling them, you should be able to force them to give you their breaths. Does this seem plausible?
  18. Some types of investiture, when not used immediately by whoever is holding it, begin to leak from the individual (such as with radiants), and the investiture is lost. Other types of investiture, such as bio-chromatic breaths, stick better, and are not lost. So my question is, if a hemalurgic spike is kept from decaying outside of a body, and it's power contains a "leaky" investiture type, will the investiture still leak, or will it be stuck within the spike?
  19. So, if someone could use an anti Rhythm to push the investiture inside a hemalurgic spike to the back end (I think that's something anti-Rhythms do right? They push investiture away?), leaving the front uninvested, could they then fill the front part again, rinsing and repeating to continue filling the spike?
  20. I would imagine that it's Adonalsium's pure essence. Which also sounds like what's happening with First of the Sun.
  21. I think that this theory has a sound reasoning to it. It also would make sense in that bio-chromatic breaths help you heal faster, and if they do work by pulling you towards your spiritual ideal, things would make a lot more sense.
  22. My guess as to who these "off worlders" are? Rosharans.
  23. Just thought of this; could you use the same metalmind as the one you're tapping, just store in a different part of the same metal?
  24. I actually had an idea recently (go figure, thought it would never happen); what if you could get ahold of some breaths, then give those breaths to someone else who was deathly sick, allowing them to heal from that sickness, but in return, they'd have to return them to you, plus their own breath once they'd been healed. It might not exactly be "fast", and you would have to be careful not to allow anyone to con you permanently out of your breath, but it might work.
  25. In the cosmere, people can have innate investiture, which comes from the shard of their respective world. They also have a “spark of life”, which makes up their spiritweb, if I’m not mistaken. So, is it merely another piece of shardic investiture, but smaller? Or is it more unique, not being connected to any shard, perhaps a manifestation of investiture having its own Intent? If it is investiture that has its own Intent, does it have a Rhythm?
