  1. True, but Hemalurgy is more long term, as you don't need to worry about running out of fuel for your powers; you just pop some more metals in your mouth or fill a metalmind, while Unsealed Metalminds (with the exception of ones that allow for nicrosil compounding) are more temporary enhancements that will cease to be useful once you've drained them.
  2. Yeah, that's what I was thinking; something that has come to replace a part of your body and helps it function properly.
  3. It's possible that Ruin did have decent future sight, but Preservation has one of the best since it seems to follow the Intent of his Shard the most closely.
  4. We know that a Lifeless can have their Command broken, and can be reprogrammed with a new sequence of Commands, as we see this happen when Lightsong's priests capture Vasher's squirrel Lifeless. But can this actually be done with a non-Lifeless Awakened object, since they can't normally take any additional Commands after being made? Not only that, but you can't take the Breaths away from someone else's Awakened object since the Identity of the investiture within doesn't match your own. So is it only Lifeless that can have their Command broken?
  5. I was wondering, is the Life Sense possessed by Awakeners the same thing as the Mind Sense possessed by many of the creatures of Patji? If not, how do they differ, and which would be more beneficial for a cosmere Worldhopper looking for a "sixth sense" to obtain?
  6. I don't think that storing a Feruchemical attribute would be able to make you into a savant, as you are not investing yourself, you are diverting the flow of investiture from yourself into your metalminds, so you have less investiture while storing than when not. Pretty sure that's how it works, anyway.
  7. The speed at which you burn your metals is directly tied to how much investiture you get out of them. So burning fast burning metals, such as pewter, can be very, very powerful, but you wouldn't have a complete edge in that metal, as sometimes you'll want a slow burn rather than a fast burn. You just have the option of burning faster and getting more power if you need it. Also, as a side note, this would mean that certain Mistings are more invested than others when burning their metals, such as a Pewterarm compared to a Smoker.
  8. What if he perceived it as a part of his body? Like, if someone who had metallic implants gained access to this power, would the implants travel with them, perhaps? Or maybe if Miles Hundred-Lives gained access to this power, would his goldminds stuck in his body travel with him? They don't seem to be rejected by his healing, so maybe he just views them as part of his being?
  9. You mean convert the Identity of the donor's spike to the Identity of the recipient? Perhaps, in an ideal setting where you had a willing donor and access to the resources needed to create Unsealed Metalminds, you could have the donor blank their Identity while simultaneously tapping the Identity of the recipient via Unsealed Metalminds. Perhaps then the spike made from the donor would have enough of the Identity of the recipient to make it more stable?
  10. Yeah, it probably would be pretty hard to mind control a human who didn't somehow have an "open" soul, like when someone pierces themselves with Hemalurgic spikes. Also, if it was possible, would it really take millions of Breaths to have that kind of power? Because a radiant spren is very, very invested, but it isn't nearly as invested as Nightblood, and Nightblood (Before RoW, anyway, when the comparison was given) had a comparable amount of investiture to Susebron, who "only" has around 50,000 Breaths.
  11. If you can mentally dominate humans with Awakening...well, that would be a scary thing in the cosmere.
  12. What Allomantic Metals Would be Best to Enhance? I made a post awhile ago in the Cosmere Q&A that said it might be possible to add multiple Hemalurgic charges together by using Raysium to combine them into a single spike. If one could do this, it would potentially allow them to gain a massive amount of strength to whatever power they were grafting onto their spiritweb. I recently went and looked over it, and it got me thinking; assuming that this method would actually work, what powers would you actually want to go though the effort of enhancing? What Allomantic powers would actually be useful if they could be enhanced using this method, and what powers would be useless or of minimal use? I think that Allomantic bronze and copper would be the most useful to enhance as neither, if burned away at an accelerated rate, would affect your performance in combat much, and having a massively increased range to your bronze sense and the ability to easily pierce Copperclouds would be extremely beneficial for rooting out Allomancers. Having enhanced copper would allow you to conceal yourself from anyone else with enhanced bronze, and you’d be able to protect yourself from even the most powerful Soother or Rioter. Allomantic pewter would have some potential risk in an enhanced form, as the rate at which you burn a metal is directly related to the amount of effect you get out of it, and pewter already burns quickly, which makes it the Allomantic power most likely to run out of fuel in the middle of a stressful combat encounter. However, having what is essentially a far more controlled version of a duralumin/pewter burn would be very useful in combat, since you could receive a massive boost to strength, speed, dexterity, and durability without completely draining your Allomantic reserves, and you could do it over a short period of time rather than a momentary burst. Zinc and Brass would be the next in terms of potency if enhanced; you could potentially pull a Lord Ruler and smother or explode the emotions of others, and dominating Hemalurgic constructs would be a breeze. However, in most cases you want to use only a little bit of a push on them, as this is the best way to be sneaky and subtle, and having a greatly enhanced use of this power would likely make controlling your rate of burning more difficult. Allomantic steel and iron, while potentially useful in an enhanced form, would be very, very dangerous it you weren’t equally enhanced by pewter, as you could easily rip yourself apart or crush yourself to death if you weren’t careful. Cadmium and Bendalloy would gain minimal benefit from being enhanced since your already can stretch time a decent amount with them, and they already burn very quickly. I don’t see much use for gold, but Allomantic electrum might be decently more useful if you could see anywhere from a few extra seconds to a few minutes in the future. Chromium, nicrosil, aluminum, and duralumin would not benefit in any practical way from being enhanced from what I can tell. Tin would actually be counter productive in most cases, as all you would accomplish is overwhelming your senses, or incapacitating yourself from the smallest of pains. What is your opinion on this matter, fellow 17th Sharders?
  13. Is there a way to allow other items to be brought with you when utilizing the surge of Transportation that is used by the Fused such as the Pursuer? Would piercing yourself with metals allow you to bring them with you, since they touch your soul? Could you take Feruchemical storages with you using this method? Would Hemalurgic spikes be able to be transported with you if you traveled this way?
  14. An Awakener can override a Command given to an Awakened object or a Lifeless. Could something like that be done for spren?
  15. seeing as how you can use a Hemalurgic spike to both grant a power and to use it as a Feruchemical storage, I'd say that you could probably use a Forged object as a Feruchemical storage as well. You'd probably not be able to fill it as much as a regular piece of metal though, since it's already partially full from the Forgery. Plus, if the seal of the Forgery breaks and the metalmind reverts to it's previous type of metal, you're not going to be able to tap it, since the investiture within it is not 'keyed' to the proper metal to allow Feruchemical access.
  16. I suppose another thing you might be able to do would be to capture the Everstorm instead. That would be a good idea, since you'd be ridding Roshar of it. Although, that brings up another question; does the Everstorm even have a spren to capture, or is it just a large chunk of investiture that travels across the face of Roshar?
  17. The Bands certainly are very, very powerful
  18. From what we know about accessing Fortune, it gives you impressions on what you need to do, where you need to be, and when. It doesn't seem to tell you why though. Could it be that accessing Feruchemical chromium would be like spiderman's spidey sense to some degree? You'd get a strong gut feeling that you needed to do something or get out of the way of danger, or place a punch on your opponent in just the right way?
  19. I'm pretty sure that the corrilation between Nightblood and the shades of Threnody are coincidence. The shades work by corrupting the investiture within you, Nightblood works by devouring it and turning it into more of itself. However, there does seem to be some kind of correlation between Ruin and Nightblood,
  20. I suspect that you couldn't completely close the holes themselves, as I'm fairly certain that those are necessary on a fundamental level to imparting the powers from the spikes to the recipient; no other magic we've seen allows you to make use of an invested item that holds another person's Identity. The Old Magic likely could work because it's basically meant for plot progression and therefore can do anything that the story needs, but yeah, even if you did get it the curse would probably suck so much that it wouldn't be worth getting.
  21. That's certainly not the way I viewed Harmony's actions. To me, it seemed that he was just trying his best to be an unbiased deity who would not force people to do his will, as the Lord Ruler would have done. He definitely still has some flaws, such as lying to Waxillium in SoS; that didn't feel like the right thing to do to me, plus he does still manipulate people to some extent, but it's kind of hard not to when you can oversee the majority of the planet and can see the future. However, I felt that he was actually doing a decent job at being a shard-holder, in my opinion, though of course we haven't seen a whole lot of what the other shards are doing, so my opinion could change when we see them and their actions and their dispositions. He also can't do as much right now due to the conflicting Intents of his two respective shards, so even if he wanted to do more to help the people of Scadrial, he doesn't have much ability to do that except through servants, such as the kandra. And as for controlling the kandra who disobey his will, his will is typically to not force people into subjugation, and that includes having immortal powerhouses go around killing or forcing others into servitude. I honestly didn't like Melaan's interactions as much because I felt that she was doing this very thing, killing those who stood in her way without remorse or mercy, though of course I suppose that the same could be said for Waxillium himself in most cases. In any case, I can understand and respect your opinion on Harmony/Sazed, but I don't think I agree with it. I suspect that it is the total number of spikes, due to the number of extra holes pierced in the soul of the recipient, because when Bleeder/Paalm was controlled at the end of SoS, it was done with one of her own spikes plus a tiny Hemalurgic spike that had lot nearly all of it's charge.
  22. There's so much investiture there that you'd probably have a very, very difficult time doing that unless you were the vessel who was holding that shard. Not only that, but the only way that I can think of that lets you blank Identity is Feruchemical aluminum, which requires that the user be willing to do that. Like, I could see Odium being capable of blanking all of the Identity of all of his shard's investiture, but Cultivation probably wouldn't be able to blank Odium's because it isn't her's to manipulate in the first place. Of course, there are lots of things we don't know yet regarding what can be done with investiture, so maybe it is possible to forcibly blank someone else's Identity. It would certainly be useful for Hemalurgy, if it were possible
  23. Absolutely. The Bands may not be the most invested, but to pretty much any being that isn't a shard, they are the most dangerous. Yes, I'm ranking them above Nightblood, because it doesn't give you superpowers, it just let's you one-shot anything...assuming that you can even hit it in the first place.
  24. Probably lots of Hemalurgic constructs, like koloss and the chimera since there wouldn't be a lot of other applications available.
