Do Spiritwebs Weaken to the Lowest State Possible Over Generations?
Trusk'our posted a question in Cosmere Q&A
For instance, we see that Allomancers will have their powers weaken over generations; their Connection to Preservation, or at least their ability to create a Connection to Preservation, weakening. Is this because Spiritwebs seek to find a state where they are made up of the least investiture possible? In real life, all things seem to want to take the most direct and most energy efficient route to a desired goal or end result. Is this what’s going on with the Spiritwebs that have powers innately tied to them, perhaps? -
I found this quote, So, it sounds like a Bond really is just a really strong Connection between two beings. I don’t think that manipulating Identity is necessary for a Bond if this is the case. Sorry if it sounds like I’m just trying to one-up you; I’m not, I just blurt out questions that come to my mind, and I really, really should have done some more research before I asked a question that already had an answer.

Would an Allomancer be Able to Burn Metals While Inside an Aluminum Box?
Trusk'our posted a question in Cosmere Q&A
Would the aluminum block them from drawing in investiture from Preservation? Also, would storing Feruchemical attributes work just fine, since you’re technically just diverting your own stream on innate investiture, or would you only be able to store a limited amount depending on how large the box was? -
A Radiant increases their power by increasing the strength of their Bond with their Spren, which is really just a very strong Connection. If a Radiant who swore the first oath were to tap large amounts of Connection from a Duraluminmind, could they bypass the need to swear more oaths in order to increase their power? Or maybe even if you couldn’t bypass the need to make more oaths, could you maybe be able to speed up the process of swearing more oaths?

Simple explanation of how Shards get tied to loaction
Trusk'our replied to Eternal Khol's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think that's a pretty good theory! I do wonder though, we've seen Shards move planets before, so why can't they just move their whole planet, or event their whole system if they need to go visit another one? Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult for them, and yet it's a big deal for them in that they can't go visit other systems. I can't fathom why. -
Using Feruchemy to Create Sentient Objects?
Trusk'our replied to Trusk'our's question in Cosmere Q&A
Yes, any investiture will gain at least some measure of sentience if left alone for long enough. But the Bands of Mourning don't have a particularly strong Connection made with anybody, so I don't think that they are a perfect example for this hypothetical situation. I'm wondering more along the lines of if a strong Connection was made between a highly invested object and a sapient being, would that speed up the process of making that object sapient, or at least sentient, itself.- 2 replies

I'm fairly certain you could survive pretty extreme temperatures with Feruchemical brass based on this quote. However, you do make a valid point; if your Brassmind(s) melt, you've got a serious problem, and I don't think that you can directly remove the heat from them since Feruchemy only directly alters your own self and not the external world. I am certain you could survive inside an oven by carefully filling a Brassmind, though you would also need to worry about ventilation and smoke depending on the type of oven you were in (though I'm pretty sure that most are decent in this regard, so it's probably not that big of a deal). Entering the atmosphere could be a little more problematic however, as the heat is caused by friction, and you may just end up getting your skin striped off even if you don't burn away. Your metalminds would be in serious danger of melting if you couldn't shield them from the heat somehow, and your oxygen would need to be taken care of as well, but Feruchemical cadmium could help there. Not to mention the whole landing thing, buy I suppose Feruchemical iron could fix that little issue. Actually, if done correctly, a full Feruchemist, or at least someone with Feruchemical brass, iron, and cadmium could probably survive a reentry onto a planet, assuming that they can shield their metalminds from the heat of reentry by using their body, and that they don't get shredded by the friction of moving so fast through the atmosphere (I'm actually not sure if the friction would be that bad, I just wanted to make sure that all variable were accounted for).

I thought that in order to go through a Perpendicularity that you had to intend to do so. So even if you decided to soak in one you wouldn't just automatically go through. Unless if you decide to not go through you get ejected somehow, but I don't think we've seen any evidence of that. It could totally be that way though, as we've seen little evidence to suggest otherwise, or if you stay in a Perpendicularity too long it sort of "guides" you, and makes you travel to the cognitive realm without you consent.

What happens if someone sits around in a Perpendicularity for an extended period of time? Would it begin to expand and permeate them as it did Kelsier when he sat in the Well of Ascension? What if it is a Perpendicularity that holds investiture that the person isn’t Connected to? For example, if a Scadrian traveled over to Patji and soaked in that Perpendicularity, would it have a different effect for them than soaking in Harmony’s Perpendicularity? Would you eventually become Connected to the investiture by virtue of you Spiritweb being familiar with it?

If someone from Scadrial were to take an aluminum syringe and inject the liquid from Harmony’s Perpendicularity into their body, would they get Allomantic powers? Would it do nothing for them if they didn’t already have powers to use the investiture?

Why don’t they? They shouldn’t be particularly difficult to obtain, and you don’t have to do much to make people think you a Mistborn, just wear one. I suppose that someone with no Allomantic powers might have to worry about getting caught, but a Coinshot or Thug, someone with a visible power, might be able to pass as Mistborn in a pinch, I would think, but we don’t see even them wear Mistcloaks.

For instance, if someone used Hemalurgy to give themselves the ability to grow a Gemheart, could you grow multiple if you were a Singer and already had one, or if your just gave yourself multiple spikes providing that ability? Could someone who did this bond multiple Spren? Would a Fused with multiple Gemhearts be able to hold more Voidlight?

I didn't mean to imply that mixing the Lights would make them less leaky, that being what would make them easier to get off Roshar, but that because they are not Connected to their Shards anymore they would have the ability to be taken off world without being pulled back or made too heavy to move, as Mraize has mentioned. Perfect Gemstones would be useful for moving them without needing to worry about them leaking though.
-
Maybe. Maybe you could do it, but we don't know for certain yet. For getting the Rosharan investitures off world, I'm not certain that you even will need to convert the Lights into investiture from another Shard. Mixing the Lights already Disconnects them from their previous Shards.

If Bridge Four, or any group of people really, were to get access to a bunch of Unsealed Duraluminminds, or perhaps get a Bondsmith's help, could they create a strong enough Connection to one another to create a sort of hive mind? We know that a Radiant and their Spren can send mental impressions to one another, and they seem to be able to track one another as well, so maybe these Connected people could do the same with one another; working together more efficiently due to their Connection. Also, it seems that Radiants get some natural talent that relates to their Spren, so could a veteran soldier grant some of their honed skill in the form of “natural talent” to a fresh recruit that they’ve formed a strong Connection with? Could the veteran get some benefit in the form of emotional strength from the new recruit, since they aren’t worn as thin from years of fighting? Maybe this would be a way for the Heralds or other ancient beings with worn souls to stabilize themselves; form a strong Connection with someone young and full of life.

If you were to put a large Feruchemical charge inside, for example, a knife, and then you tapped Feruchemical Duralumin (not from the knife, from another Metalmind) while using that knife, would the resulting Connection between you and that invested object allow for it to gain sentience? After all, Radiant spren need a Connection to a sapient being in order to maintain their own sapience in the physical realm, so maybe an invested object would be able to grow sapience by becoming strongly Connected to a sapient being.

One of the ways that you can increase your Connection to a Shard of Adonalsium is by taking certain actions that line up with that Shard’s Intent. For instance, we see in Mistborn: Secret History that Kelsier is very Connected to Ruin, despite him not even using Ruin’s magic system. This is because Kelsier is a very destructive person, preferring to destroy rather than preserve, and we can see this in his actions. However, Feruchemical Duralumin seems to work by allowing one to store their natural ability to form Connections. So, if one wanted to Connect to a particular Shard, it might be that all they’d need to do is to perform a few actions that line up with their Intent while tapping a large dose of Feruchemical Duralumin. On the flip side, someone might be able to prevent themselves from becoming too Connected to a Shard by deliberately storing Feruchemical Duralumin while performing actions that line up with their Intent. For example, if Kelsier were to get his hands on an Unsealed Feruchemical Duralumin mind, he could store his ability to form Connections while fighting and killing to prevent his Connection to Ruin from gaining strength, and when he performed acts that lined up with Preservation’s Intent, he could tap that stored Connection. Because the strength of a magic user is at least partially determined by the strength of the Connection between that person and the Shard that their magic comes from, I think that this method might be able to be used to strengthen one’s previously existing powers, though I’m not sure they would be able to form new powers from scratch. I think that the reason we don’t see Mistborn, Mistings, or Hemalurgists increase their power over time is because they simply don’t have the natural ability to create Connections strong enough to make an increase of power. Radiants can increase the strength of their powers though, and that leads me to believe that the reason they can do this is because their Spren have highly invested spiritwebs they would be able to increase their power over time; a “large”, highly invested spiritual aspect allows for greater Connections to be made naturally. To help this theory, we see in this WoB that if Kelsier, now a highly expanded Cognitive Shadow, went to Roshar, he could grant someone powers by bonding to them.

Since future sight is reading the Connections of spiritwebs, could you prevent someone from seeing your future by removing or hiding your Connections? Would this make you undetectable to Shards and other beings who ‘see’ primarily through the spiritual realm? If completely removing all of your Connections isn’t a viable option, could you simply use Feruchemical Duralumin to prevent yourself from making any new ones? If you were to perform an action while Feruchemically storing your Connection, would someone who could see into your past, such as by burning Malatium, be unable to witness you taking that action?
-
What Exactly defines a “Bond”? Is it just an extra strong Connection between two beings, or is it something more?
-
When a being uses investiture, they change themselves in such a way that when they die they can persist a bit longer before they move on. So, if someone frequently used bursts of Allomantic Duralumin power, would this cause a bigger enhancement, and therefore change in their soul, to allow themselves to last longer than someone who only burned their metals normally?
-
So, Elantrians’ automatic healing. Does it work as a natural mechanic of their magic system, or is it a function of Elantris boosting their power? Would they be able to survive with the same level of ability as a radiant or a Bloodmaker so long as they had access to the Dor? We know that they can at least regrow their heads, so why was Raoden afraid of being killed at the end of Elantris? Was he just too far away from Elantris to make his regeneration work?
-
If someone who had the potential to become a Misting or Mistborn was given a Hemalurgic spike before they had the opportunity to snap and come into their powers, would the Connection to Ruin prevent them from snapping and gaining their inborn Allomantic powers from Preservation's power?
-
If a Feruchemist could get their hands on a Shardblade, could they store an attribute in it? Would a dead Shardblade work better since it is at least a little less invested than a live one?
-
I think that there are many possibilities for Feruchemical Duralumin, possibly more than any other Feruchemical or Allomantic power except perhaps for Feruchemical Nicrosil. The way I understand it now, tapping Feruchemical Duralumin increases the speed and power with which you make new Connections, and at the very least it can be used to Connect you to the nearest land. This can be used to learn the local languages temporarily, but I think that if you were to tap enough you could do some crazy things. You might be able to force a spren to bond you, or at the very least to make you a squire of it's order. You could potentially create a strong enough Connection with someone to acquire a certain level of telepathy with them, similar to how a radiant and their spren can use telepathy. If you could figure out a way to Connect with an object, you might be able to track it's location via the Connection you forged with it. I don't know that you'd gain other invested powers by increasing your Connection to Scadrial, but you might be able to gain an enhancement to any Allomantic powers you already had if you could find a way to increase your Connection to Preservation (I'm actually planning to make a post about how specifically you might be able to do this, but it will take some time to get the rest of it together).
