Okay, so singers are normally asexual until they take Mateform. In addition, humans can gain Forms by growing a Gemheart via Hemalurgy. So let's say that Jasnah were given a Gemheart and for whatever reason took Mateform. Would she not be asexual while she had the form, or would it just not change her in that way? Also, would the physical changes of the Forms still effect a human, such as the pronounced secondary sexual characteristics of Mateform? (P.S. Sorry if this is a bit of a weird question.)

An interesting trad off; you get the powers you want without making yourself vulnerable to Hemalurgy's normal side effects, but with the added limitation of it only being for a short while. If this were the case, you might be able to collect a handful of powers Hemalurgically, then burn them and store the powers in a Nicrosilmind so that you can use them at a later time when it is convenient for you. I like the idea!

Allomantic duralumin gives a massive burst of power to a Mistborn burning it along with another metal as it allows your to use up a metal reserve instantly. However, I don't think that it's actually instant, just very, very fast. If someone could have a large enough metal store, or burn their duralumin at a slower pace, then they might be able to use another power very quickly, but not in a single burst, more as a very highly flared power. I think that savantism with this particular power may actually allow this, as savantism allows for significantly greater control over the power's usage. In fact, it may be that the reason The Lord Ruler was able to sooth so powerfully was because he used Allomantic duralumin, but in a very controlled way allowed by savantism. He was also very powerful innately though, so this may not be the case. Even so, I think my idea still has merit.

One of the common conceptions I've seen on compounding nicrosil is that you can do this in order to increase the power of one your abilities temporarily. Compound, for example, your ability to use steel Allomancy, tap it at a quick rate, and your ability to use that specific power will be increased. I'm not sure this is how it works anymore though. From this quote we see that a Nicrosilmind is similar a a Coppermind in some regards, and I think that one of the ways that it may be is that you store not only your ability to use a type of Invested power with it, but also the relative strength of that power too. For example, if a Mistborn such as Kelsier were to store his ability to use Allomantic steel, it would be more powerful than if Waxillium were to store his ability to use Allomantic steel. This may not be the case, of course, but I think that it would be a reasonable line of thinking based on the WoB and that fact that it would help keep nicrosil from becoming too overpowered.

My 500th post! I found this quote and it got me thinking... Okay, okay, so Brandon didn't sound like he was saying that an Unsealed Metalmind necessarily needed Feruchemical Duralumin to work, but for the purposes of this theory there is enough evidence that I'm going to assume that it is used in their creation. If it turns out that this isn't the case when The Lost Metal comes out, you can tell me you told me so. Alrighty, so we know that the Sovereign (pretty sure everyone knows who they are by now, but I'll just refer to them as that for now) gave the Excisors to the Southern Scadriens so that they could create Unsealed Metalminds for the survival of their people. I hypothesize that the Excisors are actually just Unsealed Metalmind made from Feruchemical nicrosil, aluminum, duralumin, and likely brass. They also likely include their Allomantic counterparts to allow for compounding. I also hypothesize that creation of Unsealed Metalminds requires a few steps; a misting or ferring takes one of the Excisors and taps nicrosil, temporarily granting them the ability to store their own innate power in a Nicrosilmind. While doing this they also store their Identity in an Aluminummind to unseal their power for someone else to use. The resulting Nicrosilmind is then taken and a band of metal corresponding to the power stored (if Feruchemical in nature) is added for convenience, thus making the Southern medallions we see in The Bands of Mourning. However, if one wants to make a Medallion with more powers, I'm guessing that a little more is involved. Two or more Mistings or Ferrings each get an Excisor, tapping nicrosil, and storing their Identity in Aluminum. They then tap Feruchemical duralumin to create a Connection between themselves, possibly before the other steps or during them. They would then store their Investiture in the same Nicrosilmind, and with their being little Identity to the stored Investiture plus with the Connection between them, they act as if they were one power, one Metalmind with one owner so as to not interfere with each other. It may be possible that the reason you can only store up to three powers in the medallions (excluding the Feruchemical nicrosil, of course) is because you can only Feruchemically store at a certain rate, and so you can't completely remove all of your Identity, so the more powers you store, the more incompatible they become due to the small amount of Identity left in them. If this is the case then Hemalurgically granted powers may not become entirely obsolete, as the Identity of the spike and the person using the spike combine when storing power, so they could be used to create Unsealed Metalminds that don't have a limitation to the number of powers that can be added together. Not to mention the fact that you can just use Hemalurgy to grant yourself a number of powers, assuming of course that you're in good standing with Harmony and all that. Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed this little theory of mine and will be willing to read more of my posts in the future. Can't wait for The Lost Metal to come out!

Something cool about the future of the Cosmere
Trusk'our replied to Vin(Diesel)'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, but we'd still know a lot of things, as once Brandon is finished writing the Cosmere he'll have answered many of the questions about realmatics and the magic systems, and any residual questions he would likely be a lot more willing to answer because it wouldn't be spoiling anything for future books. Anything that touches on something that is based on the reader's moral, religious, or philosophical perceptions will likely not be answered though, as he would likely want those questions to be things that the reader comes up with their own answers for. -
Huh. That's pretty cool to know, actually. Does this mean that you could invest a sword, shield, or other piece of metal to act as a way to stop Shardblades, but without the extra perks, such as super sharpness or being super light? Seems like there could be some interesting applications of investing Breath in certain objects specifically resist other forms of investiture.

One other way Hoid might be able to push himself to cause physical harm would be to gather a very large number of Bio-Chromatic Breaths that came from violent-minded people, as enough Breaths will cause a change in the mindset of the one who holds them.

Something cool about the future of the Cosmere
Trusk'our replied to Vin(Diesel)'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
True. Very, very true. Not only that, but by that time we'll know almost everything there is to know in the Cosmere, so if they have any questions, we'll be on the "inside" of what's going on, and can say "yeah, this is how that stuff actually works". -
When an Allomancer burns a Hemalurgic spike, it splices the spiritweb of the spike to the Allomancer. Presumably, if this were done with a spike that contained an Allomantic or Feruchemical power, the power would be imbued within the spiritweb along with some other things (though this may not actually turn out to be true, this is what make the most sense to me right now, so for the sake of this post I'll just assume that's how it works). But what about human abilities stored in spikes? Those seem to have much more profound effects when placed in different areas, as they can transform you into a Hemalurgic construct of almost countless varieties. But you can (presumably) only burn a spike one way. So, do you just get a boost the ability stored in the spike, or does something else happen? Does it just not work? Do you get a random mutation?
-
When a metal is filled with a Feruchemical attribute, the power that the metal then gives when burned Allomantically is a copy of the Feruchemical attribute rather than the Allomantic power that it would normally give. Would the same apply to Hemalurgy? In other words, if you were to burn a Hemalurgic spike that only had a small charge in it, would the investiture granted by the metal itself copy and be added to the Hemalurgic charge that was already in the spike, thus making the power or ability spliced into your spiritweb actually becoming much stronger than what was in the spike originally?
-
When Lerasium is used as a Hemalurgic spike, it steals all attributes, such as strength, intelligence, and emotional fortitude. So, would granting someone a Lerasium spike turn someone into a Hemalurgic construct, similar to the koloss, in order to grant those abilities, or would the person granted the spike just get a magical boost to all of their attributes? As a side note, if someone filled a piece of Lerasium with a Hemalurgic charge, would that Lerasium never be able to grant it's Allomantic properties again, as Hemalurgic charges never disappear altogether?

I suspect that you could also roast them to death. You may not even need to reduce them to ash, you might just have to cook all their fleshy parts.

When Hoid tries to hurt someone or even contemplates it, he is incapacitated due to the way his Spiritweb was changed by holding a Dawnshard. However, there are ways to use magic to compel you to cause harm rather than avoiding it. The first that comes to mind would be by him using Hemalurgic spikes to grant himself a more Ruinous Intent on his Spiritweb, which would, if there were enough spikes placed and enough time given, allow him to override the current structure of his Spiritweb allow him to physically harm others. There are definitely some problems with this, such as how he would need someone else to charge and place the spikes for him, and how he would be opening himself up to shardic influence (which is NOT something that he wants to have happen), but this may hypothetically be possible. Another possibility would be for Hoid to wield Nightblood. Since Nightblood compels whoever is holding it to destroy, it seems likely that Hoid would be able to overcome is own magical compulsion to not do any physical harm if he were to use the blade. However, even if he could do so, I doubt that he would risk himself to try and directly kill someone via Nightblood; he's crafty and patient and he would likely rather carefully plan for someone else to do the fighting for him, which he could even without needing to cause direct physical harm.

Technically, there is a way to Hemalurgicly remove attributes from a person without killing them, assuming that you can get them some way of healing the damage, such as through Feruchemical gold. So that may be a viable option in the future.
-
What would happen if a Fused without sufficient Voidlight to heal themselves was touched by a Threnodite Shade? Would they still return as a Cognitive Shadow that could possess Singer bodies? Or would they become more like a standard Shade, unable to think or do much aside from infecting others? If they could still be reborn as a functioning Fused normally would, would they gain a kind of withering touch, or other qualities?
-
Miles was extremely cocky and didn't even worry about his henchmen stabbing him in the back. Which, makes sense at first glance since he could regenerate from practically anything. Except, of course, from any aluminum that happened to be logged in his body. Like the bullets his henchmen had. ALUMINUM BULLETS THAT COULD HAVE KILLED HIM. It seems like a pretty glaring oversight to me that someone as clever and experienced as his would have overlooked this. Did I miss something?

So, we've seen in the Bands of Mourning that a Kandra can donate a part of their own flesh to another person by taking a bite of them and copying them so that the the receiver's body doesn't reject the graft of Kandra flesh. Because of this, I'm willing to bet that a skilled Kandra with some motivation would be able to modify another person's body by removing and grafting on different pieces of their body. Kandra could repair major damage done to vital organs, grow and graft on new limbs, and they may even be able to revitalize an aged individual by slowly removing old, worn out cells and replacing them with new, fresh ones. Sort of like the Ship of Theseus, but with a human body. Even outside medical practice, a Kandra may be able to reshape a person's body shape to something they feel is more desirable or even give people physical augmentations aside from healing them, such as giving them a stronger heart or shaper eyesight. If a Kandra replaces enough of a person over time though, it does make me wonder if that individual would start to take on Kandra-like qualities, but that would depend on whether a Kandra's abilities are a combination physical and magical means, or whether they are purely magical. But hey, if someone could become a Kandra this way, maybe Wayne and Melaan will be able to show up as a couple in a few centuries and bug the protagonists of one of the later Mistborn eras!

So, when a person becomes a Savant, their spiritweb is suffused with investiture. If their spiritweb is actually having investiture added to it, then will that investiture continue to build up over time? Would someone like the Lord Ruler have a much larger amount of power added to them than someone like Spook due to adding investiture to their spiritweb over a significantly longer period of time?
-
When an allomancer (or Feruchemical compounder) uses their powers enough, they can accidentally suffuse their spiritweb with investiture, which can lead to changes in the physical realm. However, Kandra are able to manipulate their physical aspect, as well as having mutable spiritwebs. If a Kandra were to become a savant, would they be able to easily scrub away the negative changes? Or would the changes made to their spiritweb instead damage their ability to change themselves and assume different forms?
-
Creatures can only get so big due to the natural limitations of the physical world, and even shape-shifters such as Kandra would be restricted by these limitations. However, Feruchemy can do some really interesting things. Could a Kandra that had access to Feruchemical iron, for preventing it's enormous weight from crushing itself, Feruchemical cadmium, for providing enough oxygen to it's body, and Feruchemical bendalloy, for providing sufficient nutrition and water to it, be able to grow to the size of something like, oh, I don't know, a Greatshell? Compounding cadmium and bendalloy might be necessary to get enough of their respective attributes, but it seems plausible to me.

Welcome to the 17th Shard! I think that a Resealer would need to know the specifics of Fabrials before they could consider augmenting the human body with them, but assuming that they had an extensive enough knowledge of both Fabrials and Resealing, I bet that what you suggest would be possible, although you would face many of the same problems that we do in real life with implants and human augmentation. It would likely be a little easier, since Investiture is involved, but it would still be well beyond what modern Roshar or Sel is capable of right now. Maybe we'll see this in the future of those worlds though. (Also, just want to mention that the Cosmere Q&A may be a better forum to ask future questions, as most people who want to do that will be looking there for that opportunity.)

Here's my Cosmere bucket list: 1. Figure out how to be a shapeshifter, similar to the Siah Aimian's, without having the drawback of being easily controlled like the Kandra. 2. Create a supercharged Hemalurgic copper spike without killing or maiming anyone in the process, then give it to myself to become like the guy in the movie Limitless. 3. Find a way to consume the parasitic worms on Patji and gain psychic powers. It can't be by bonding an Aviar, IT HAS TO BE BY EATING THE WORMS. Somehow. 4. Go to Nalthis and get couple hundred breaths, because...reasons? 5. Get an Unsealed Feruchemical Chromiummind/Duraluminmind from Scadrial to get precognition and Connection powers (it doesn't matter if the Patji worms already provide it, IT MUST BE DONE). 6. Wonder why exactly I needed all this stuff, because I don't really have an end goal for them. Maybe just retire then, living comfortably and perhaps finding a nice lady to marry and start a family with.
