The Stormfather and Windrunner Oaths
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Quantus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I agree. When the oaths were created, they were most likely tied to Tanavast’s cognitive aspect. And so when it merged with the Stormfather, he took up the task. We have seen this happen to Dalinar as well, so my guess is it has led to do with windrunners bonding honorspren, and more to do with them sharing a surge with Bondsmiths. Maybe the Stormfather accepts the oaths of any bondsmith or radiant that shares a surge with Bondsmiths. And because he accepts their oaths, they get a burst of power. -
You could argue that Hoid is a ‘shard,’ considering how much investiture he has now.

I mean, the second Shattering of Adonalsium was pretty good.

Living Shardplate and the fifth oath.
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to NameIess's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel like a lot of the surges are not currently being used to their full potential. Adhesion is the surge of pressure and vacuum, and all we’ve seen windrunners use it for is a full lashing. At one point Kaladin did use it more, when he redirected the storm around himself. What if the fifth ideal allows radiants to always use this full potential, instead of just the very specific lashings and uses of surges. And before the fifth ideal, they can only use it when they are REALLY embodying their oaths.- 3 replies

The Powers of the Bondsmiths - three different types
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it is less about specific powers and more about specific tuning of those powers. Each Bondsmith is related to a particular place: Stormfather is the highstorm. Because the highstorm moves, the Bondsmith is also by extension the world as a whole. Sibling is Urithiru. Nightwatcher is the Valley. They have the same powers, attuned to that area. For example, they can all boost Radiants. They boost a different surge for each Radiant order. They change nothing except provide that surge information about the area. For lightweavers, for example, they allow creating a map of that area. The map changes real time as the place changes, but the Stormfather’s map of the world only changes as the highstorm goes over it. In addition to changing real time, the Sibling and Nightwatcher maps can have much more detail. If the Bondsmith enhances an Elsecaller and therefore transformation surge, you can create a physical, permanent map of the area. The downside to this is it doesn’t change real time. I believe only the Stormfather Bondsmith can infuse radiants with stormlight, however. This is because the highstorm is the source of stormlight. The other Bondsmiths can provide whatever their areas are sources of. Maybe the nightwatcher Bondsmith can give mini boons and curses, and the sibling Bondsmith can give the various plants growing effects and Anti Magic effects that Urithiru gives. That one is kind of wasted though seeing as how we know the sibling Bondsmith never leaves Urithiru. As for opening perpendicularities, we have it confirmed that only Dalinar can do it because of the Stormfather being combined with Tanavast’s cognitive shadow and what not. -
The Nature of the Dawnshard
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Argent's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel like Move and Change should just be one Change Dawnshard. They’re too close for me to want to separate them. If you think about The Last Airbender magic, each of the four elements is representative of a mindset. Water is Change and earth is the idea of watching others and reacting in the correct way. I don’t think the fire and air mindsets matter here. But earth is very close to the proposed Dawnshards Stasis, Think, and See. So I think React is a Dawnshard that encompasses all of this together. You See, you Think, and THEN you act. This is the Dawnshard that Hoid once had. So we have Change and React. I’m not sure what the other two are. -
Which Shard would you pick?
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to CosmereComrade's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Education. Understanding. Knowledge. Learning. Any of the above. -
I don’t quite remember the descriptions, but I’ll take your word that they’re similar enough. If they are, what does that entail? Kelsier wouldn’t have written those for no reason. He loved secrets, after all. Could it be that these symbols actually tap the Dor to power the temple? He could have convinced the Ire to write the symbols and pull that power line right on top of the temple. Or am I going way too far on a red herring?

Now we have a way to automate the hardest step of the fabrial creation process. Sucking the Stormlight out of the gemstone. -
Possible Bondsmith "Resonances"
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Harfyn's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I agree that it’s more about the information given. Although I do think only the Bondsmith can provide information to other orders. I think each Bondsmith will simply give the information about the “domain” of that Bondsmith’s spren. The night watcher’s domain is the valley, the sibling’s Urithiru, and the Stormfather’s is the highstorm. Because the highstorm moves, the Stormfather’s domain is by extension the world. But unlike the night watcher and sibling, the Stormfather’s information is only updated when the highstorm passes. Each radiant order, when boosted, simply uses one of their surges with the information from the Bondsmith’s domain. Wind runners use adhesion, Skybreakers gravitation, and so on down the line. For example, a lightweaver would create an illusion map of the domain. With the night watcher or sibling Bondsmith, that map would change real time, while the Storm father’s map would only change when the highstorm updates it. An Elsecaller could soul cast a map of the domain, but once made it wouldn’t update. But the map is permanently there. Pros and cons compared to Lightweavers. -
I think all of these are a lot less powerful than you make them seem. Creating a 3D map of the world is no where on par with these. I believe each Bondsmith boosts powers in a way related to their “land.” The Stormfather Bondsmith is connected to the highstorm, and by extension the world as a whole because the highstorm moves. The sibling Bondsmith is connected to Urithiru, and the night watcher Bondsmith is connected to the Valley. Boosted Radiants windrunner: spiritual adhesion ties someone to the Bondsmith’s land. I’m not sure what the implications are. Adhesion because each radiant order probably gets a different surge boosted and this lines up with the rest. Skybreaker: I don’t know. Something gravitation. Maybe a basic lashing automatically in the direction of the Bondsmith’s land? Dustbringer: division related somehow. Edgedancer: abrasion related truthwatcher: plants grow in the direction of the Bondsmith’s land? lightweaver: map of the Bondsmith’s land Elsecaller: soulcast a copy of the Bondsmith’s land? Willshaper: teleport a small group to the Bondsmith’s land stoneward: something cohesion related I admit, I’m not sure what many of these are. But I really believe the pattern and mechanics is more accurate.

I don’t have a wob, and it is an interesting idea. However, I don’t believe this is the case simply because we haven’t ever seen it. We have seen plenty of Radiants with Blade worthy bonds, many of whom have had ample opportunity to experiment all they want. I’m pretty sure one of them would figure it out and use it on screen at some point.

theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel like there should be something extra special when you use cousin spren in fabrials. That’s why I think it’s decayspren instead of flamespren, because we know flamespren aren’t that unique in fabrials. Among the other cousin spren candidates, we’ve only seen logicspren in fabrials and they are unique. -
Yes. Barring that, he’ll be a surgeon and swear the fourth ideal sometime in Rhythm of War.

theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That is cool, I didn’t notice that. Dustbringers: either flamespren or decayspren work easily with division. I’m still leaning toward decayspren, though. Elsecallers: logicspren might make sense for transformation, seeing as how in fabrials they transform the level of light output. Or is that too far-fetched? Willshapers: I don’t see passionspren or concentrationspren working with transportation. We really need more Willshaper cousin spren candidates. Stonewards: groundspren feel like they match cohesion. Bondsmiths: Now you actually have me expecting gloryspren to start using tension. It would make so much sense. -
theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah. Dustbringers could be flamespren as well. I could see Willshapers with concentrationspren. Passionspren makes sense, but concentrationspren seems better to me. I’m not sure what Edgedancers could be now. -
theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
Truthwatcher Artifabrian replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Good catch. That’s a good guess, though I actually think keenspren are the radiant spren of the Truthwatchers. Wyndle’s comparison for strangeness includes growing a garden for them, implying that they are intelligent. I didn’t consider those. I agree. -
We’ve heard from Syl that the windspren are cousins to the honorspren. We’ve also seen tons of examples of windspren circling around Kaladin. Strangely, this even happened once in the cognitive realm. We’ve also seen gloryspren Circle Dalinar when he opened the perpendicularity. And now we see emerald and rhythms empowering lifespren to enhance the growth of plants. I believe that there is one particular cousin spren for every radiant spren, and that cousin spren serves multiple purposes. The radiant spren, while unintelligent in the physical realm without a bond, will spend time around the same things as the cousin spren, and with other cousin spren. Cousin spren will encircle the radiant during certain important moments. The radiant can turn nearby cousin spren into Shardplate. For example a windrunner’s Shardplate would be made of ten windspren. Doing something like dismissing only the helm would dismiss only one of the cousin spren. And I think each gemstone, when given the right rhythm, will only empower the cousin spren of the order that gemstone is associated with. So for example a sapphire would empower windspren, probably making a windy area. Here’s what I think each of the cousin spren could be: Bondsmith: gloryspren Windrunner: windspren Edgedancer: lifespren Lightweaver: creationspren (how many times have we seen Shallan attract an abnormal amount of these?) Stoneward: groundspren Here are some cousin spren that I’m less sure about: Dustbringer: decayspren Elsecaller: logicspren Even less sure: Skybreaker: starspren (both they and highspren appear in the sky?) Truthwatcher: concentrationspren (this is another scholar order) Finally, what I’m reduced to guessing about: Willshapers. All I’ve got is captivityspren, which is kind of opposite. Thoughts?

I think inorganic fabrials have a wider range of things you can do than organic fabrials. Just like technology can do many things that living creatures have never evolved to do. While inorganic fabrials can use every combination of gemstone, metal, and spren, I think every gemstone only has one rhythm and one spren that it organically works with.
