  1. I personally agree he's probably not gay (though obviously everyone is free to interpret how they want), but having had crushes on girls in the past in no way precludes the possibility he could be bi or pan or something.
  2. I am absolutely positive that Renarin's crush is a guy. So much about his character- his autism, his lack of fighting training, his corrupted spren- leads to a person who sees himself as isolated because he feels different than everyone else. Being gay would play this up even more. This is a person who carried around a Shardblade that screamed in his mind at all times and just went "huh. Guess I'm just stormed then." And carried it around anyway. He is absolutely the kind of person who would get a crush on a guy, decide that that is Bad TM and shove those feelings right down. I would be genuinely shocked if he's not gay (or bi, maybe, but I get more gay vibes from him.) As for who the crush is, my guess is either Kaladin or Rlain. (To be clear, I'm not saying that having autism being lgbtqia+ does necessarily make you isolated and different; just that that's how Renarin is, and I think they can contribute to that feeling, since it feels like he doesn't think or love in the same way the people around him do)
  3. I think people noticed it, it just doesn't give us much new info. We could assume this was possible just from the Navani-Raboniel experiments, and we don't really see this like. Interacting with other light or anything like that. We don't even get a name. It is nice that we know for sure it's possible though
  4. What about him? He was only awake once lift woke him up
  5. You know what, if this is what does it for you, more power to you
  6. I've seen a theory that Sja-Anat went to the Nightwatcher for the ability to enlighten high spren. If this is true, she could be a good spren for Void/Lifelight
  7. I think you're right that this could work, but I doubt that's what's going on personally. I can't exactly say why, but it doesn't seem right narratively. Also it seems like the Set would have gotten all 32 by the time we're reading this- they've been operating for a while, and they seem to have a decent amount of spikes to go around for lots of different abilities.
  8. That's certainly possible. I wonder how Connection works with lifelight, under this theory. Worse? And does that make the stormfather's bondsmith more powerful than the nightwatcher's, since they all use Honor's surge?
  9. FYI, we do know some more about him. I don’t wanna spoil anything but if you want to find out more look up those two
  10. Can a spren get a night watcher boon/curse? why did only one of lift’s surges under the fabrial? (This one will definitely get rafoed) Has wit tried burning any raysium? Or will he soon now that the humans know about it and may be able to get their hands on it? (I’ll be adding more on here) OOH edit: At one point in the writing process (if ever, I suppose) did you realize how romance-coded the relationship between Raboniel and Navani was? I was astonished by just how gay these two mad-scientist moms were together, and I support them
  11. I really don't see why statistics on how much of the population of our world our relevant at all really. 1. This is a world where everyone except a single fairly small group has epicanthic folds, and darker skin. A world where we know genetics work different, with mixed-color anime hair and where if a darkeye and lighteye have kids the kids will have one eye of each. A world where, canonically, humans have interbred with crab people leading to higher instances of asexuality. I don't see why having a much higher lgbtqia+ population would stand out as weird, considering this population is just statistically so different from ours in a number of ways and specifically in this way for at least one demographic. (And hell, while we're talking about singers- all our statistics are about humans, so even if you want to make that argument it still doesn't apply to singers. Who, again, have mixed with the human population.) 2. Let's assume, for a second though, that their lgbtqia+ statistics are the same as ours (which we know they're not at least with regards to asexuality). That still wouldn't mean a story with a bunch of gay main characters would be statistically weird. It's not uncommon in our world for gay people to form friend groups together, sometimes before they even realize they're gay. Even if gay people are roughly 5% of the population that still doesn't mean they have to be 5% of the main characters. I work at a summer camp, and if we matched population trends, there'd be 1 maybe 2 gay counselors and a half dozen gay campers. Instead, most of our counselors are lgbtqia+, and we've had entire cabins of kids come out. Environments that are lgbtqia+ friendly will tend to make gay people stick around, and having a couple gay people around tends to make those environments. So even if Roshar is only 5% gay, that still wouldn't make it abnormal for a particular group like our protags to have a much higher instance. (Did I just go from explaining why we shouldn't apply the real world to Roshar to applying the real world to Roshar? Yes. I am a hypocrite, and I'm not in the process of changing. For the record, my ideal would be that Brandon takes the she-ra approach and says everyone is some genre of lgbtqia+ unless specifically stated otherwise.)
  12. I don't think people are questioning why Lift wasn't affected by the fabrial the same way everyone else was. We know there's something different about her and her connection to Cultivation. What we're wondering is why one of her surges works but not the other. Cause that seems to indicate that there's something different about that surge, even if for most non-Lift radiants that wouldn't (necessarily) mean they could use it under the suppression.
  13. I think you could do some really funky stuff with a-gold and f-aluminum. A-gold has some sort of weird alternate-identity business going on, and aluminum would allow you to store that identity and retrieve it later. I think you could end up with something close to
  14. I'm very confused about how aluminum spikes work honestly. It seems like there are easier ways to incapacitate someone if you're already stabbing them. And it's not even really a pacifist option since I think you'd need to kill someone to get it active
  15. It's certainly a possibility, and that does seem like a set up for something like this, but I don't think we can say for sure considering there's the possibility a kandra is using his bones or something
  16. Brandon's said somewhere that the nature of the shard, Endowment, means the breaths become more connected to the holder than the planet. They're "given away" more than light is from roshar
  17. I agree, I think whimsey leads well to a fairy tale environment and I think Brandon also would want a world for some complete fantasy nonsense (affectionate) that wouldn't make sense on other worlds
  18. I think the metal is named after the original vessel, not the current. And yeah, as far as we know a new vessel doesn't change anything about the godmetal though El probably doesn't know this so makes sense he'd want to test it
  19. I agree that cryptics, and pattern especially, seem like they'd care less about this than others.
  20. I think another big, related question is why progression can wake radiants up. My guess is that, like others have suggested, Progression is closer to Cultivation in some way, which means when you're healed with it that creates a temporary connection between you and Cultivation. The connection to a shard other than honor, like we see with Venli and Lift, wakes the radiant up for a bit
  21. We know that some nights the mists are more preservation-y and some nights they're more ruin-y. So I wonder if the whether they could be stilled into lerasium and atium, respectively, or only ettmetal.
  22. We call it "corrupting" but she does seem to disagree with the term. I could definitely see what she does as an extension of cultivation's intent
  23. Another time we see rhythm in the cosmere is with dalinar’s perpendicularity. And as far as I remember, Navani, who’s been studying that note specifically at the beginning of RoW, did not make a connection between honor’s pure note and dalinar’s. Which probably means they’re not the same, interestingly
