  1. This is weird. It suggests that the Sleepless have been hiding something, but only Navani can actually make them real. What kind of secret is not true until she unmasks spies and delivers their secrets to the world? If it was some kind of truth or discovery about the nature of spren/gemstones, you wouldn't think its truth value depended on whether it was public. Perhaps "become truths" means "bring about"? Perhaps the Sleepless have some secret future-sight visions of what could occur in this conflict, and only through Navani realizing certain facts or truths could these precognitions come true. Their secrets, only truths if certain characters can achieve what is needed. Begs the question of how badly this will go, as we have heard from a very good source, Hoid, that you should not trust anyone who claims to know the future. Or does it just so happen that the hopes the Sleepless hold do not line up with the hopes the main characters, or us readers, are holding out with?
  2. First of all, welcome to the Shard! From what I have seen of other threads on this topic (this is not a very representative one here), that opinion is not so unpopular as you may think. We have already sort of seen spren revival occur, with Kaladin breaking his oaths in Words of Radiance and killing Syl, which he then picked back up and brought her back. This is definitely different to reviving a deadeye, but it does show that even if a Radiant broke their oaths, they could pick them back up and the spren could be brought back. I personally find the idea that, if one Radiant breaks their oaths, another person could come and pick up those fallen oaths and, through much hardship, revive that spren, to be a reassuring idea. Brandon has made statements about how he dislikes 'revivng' characters too often, like what happened with Jasnah (most readers thought her dead, Shallan and other characters did so too, then she shows up in the Epilogue all of a sudden), so we likely won't see deadeye spren being revived all over the place, but we may see some story critical points using it for their gain. As others have said above, Maya being the preview for the Sibling being revived is a popular theory, and this may be the only few times that we see spren being brought back from the dead at all, with maybe a show that a few other people also revived their deadeye blade, and that would probably play a little better for still having stakes for all of the characters.
  3. Channeling dangerous amounts of Stormlight (likely directly from Honor, considering the timeline as well), and holding powers directly related to Connection... This seems more than plausible that they could forcibly break a bond. In more recent times, we've seen that the Stormfather has taken up this regulatory role in managing people who have a Nahel bond, and with the Splinter of Honor that is now attached to him, he likely has more than enough Investiture behind him to forcibly break a bond if he finds it necessary. And Dalinar may, through the bond, be able to channel that Investiture himself to do similar feats.
  4. Oh. OH. Well this has been a very interesting thing to hear... What if a key part of Kaladin and his battle prowess is that, at least when he has his bond with Syl, he can hear some rhythm or another that can enhance his already high skill in combat. Or maybe him being able to be 'attuned' to this rhythm allows him to better understand the flow of battle, and this could be related to the way the singers always attune to certain rhythms when doing things, such as contemplating a in issue, or the chanting they had during all the battles on the Shattered Plains... Maybe the natural symbiosis of the singers with the spren in their gemheart is what allows them to attune the rhythms, and the Nahel bond can allow humans to somewhat simulate this ability. All beings on Roshar have displayed some ability to, even if only faintly, hear the rhythms. We have comments from Rlain about how Rock and others in Bridge Four seem to almost hear a rhythm a times, or the fact that slaveform could seem to do the same at times, but never actually attuned the rhythms. I have so many speculations now! Don't mind the ramble there, I just got fully into the swing of putting every idea onto paper, so to speak. If you think any of those are good to latch on to, feel free to. (FYI, it's spelt 'rhythm', a lot of people forget the 'h')
  5. I find it really interesting that people haven't been mentioning the Allomantic pulses of the metals that a Seeker hears when someone is burning a metal. I found that was the first connection I made when the more natural looking spren magic was shown, with the comparison of the Rhythms to the pulses of the metals. We have WOB that a seeker could hear the Rhythms of Roshar when burning bronze, and that shows that there is something there in the connection between the two.
  6. Ah yes, going around the Tower getting beat up by every person he can find, getting advice from them each in turn, to eventually end up at the queen of his home country who rightly tells him to storm off? I would love to read that!
  7. I think that a key part of the bond that might arise between Maya and Adolin is that Adolin isn't the one that is broken and need to grow and heal, bur rather Maya is the party in the bond that requires the progression and healing that the oaths typically provide for the Radiants. I am fascinated by this idea of an inverted bond dynamic, and I have to agree with @Bliev that one of the big parts of Adolin that is interesting to read about is that he appears so collected and 'whole' from the outside. From my own experiences, and those of many close friends, I feel that that is almost always not a very accurate read of the persons actual view, and I am very interested to read about how this view would apply to Adolin and his personal experience. In the end, each character in a narrative is up to the reader's interpretation, and not everyone will interpret them the same way. I find almost every character in the series to be enjoyable at most times (Even early Shallan chapters, but I can definitely see how others can find her annoying at first), and that probably skews my opinions on arguments such as this.
  8. We have WOB that, if Sazed was to be killed, Harmony would be dropped as one singular Shard, not the two distinct Shards of Preservation and Ruin.
  9. I would've expected you to reference the slightly more conclusive Vision where the Windrunner is Lashing themselves to fly towards the town attacked by the Midnight Essence while still wearing their Plate. The other Radiant that they were Lashing with them did have to remove their Plate though. This has to do with the Identity of the Radiant and their plate, and that when the Plate is 'keyed' to them (the same way a metalmind is keyed to a Feruchemist) they are able to use Investiture uninhibited. I can't specifically find the WOB that state this, but I'm 99% sure I've seen one of it before. Will edit if I do manage to find it
  10. Ahh, but holding stormlight wards off the cold! Entirely forgot about that! I guess clothes are now optional, given Illumination.
  11. Never seen that one before, sorry! Turns out I was wrong then. Still going to stand by the idea that, while Dalinar didn't experience full Shard level enlightenment, he still got some insight from his Ascension. Also found the WoB about Dalinar's Ascention maybe not necessarily being capital-A (Spoilered for length, bold italic on relevant line)
  12. I would disagree with this. It was more like he had picked up a, while very large in raw investiture, moderate portion of Preservation that had been channeled into the well. He held a vast amount of power, but I don't think it is correct to say he was Preservation whilst he held it, especially considering that Leras still lived. I'd say that Dalinar's Ascension (I think we have WoB that the capital-A there is debatable, will see what I can find) is very similar to that, in that he had access to, or channeled, very large amounts of Investiture, but not necessarily Shard levels. Maybe the quantity of Investiture was too small for any noticeable enlightenment? After is 'Big Clap' he does seem to have the impression that there should be 10 Radiants gathered there, seeming out of nowhere.
  13. It might just relate to how the world was put together. I don't know if Preservation is specifically associated with 16. He may have just taken advantage of that in his sign. It is worth noting that Harmony is also associated with 16 and that Ruin's magic system, hemalurgy, follows the same number. 16 does also seem to be a important number Cosmere-wide (see: number of Shards), so it could be related more fundamentally to the Cosmere itself.
  14. Maybe as an attempt to get a consistent, omnipresent source of Stormlight, by forcing the entire planet into a permanent highstorm?
  15. Would you say 'graceful' is a word that would describe Lift very well? That seems to be more of a historical association with them, not necessarily some requirement for someone to be and Edgedancer. See also: his duels have been described by various characters as 'graceful', so in-world characters seem to disagree with you there.
  16. I believe that the Invested nature of Feruchemically or Hemalurgically charged metals will interfere with the functioning of the fabrials, though there could be some interesting interactions with them, similar to how burning a Feruchemically charged metal is different to burning a normal metal.
  17. HMMM Interesting ratio... It seems kind of... perfect, doesn't it.
  18. The Cryptics seems to have an appreciation for lies, but do no necessarily have anything against being truthful and honorable, so I could totally see this working dynamic working. The radiant working towards personal understanding through protecting others and being honorable in their ways. The power sets could merge well, given some ingenuity, Illumination could work well with Lashings to make illusory images of yourself that you 'stick' to gemstones and Lash around the place to confuse enemies, you could Soulcast a stone box around any Heavenly Ones you encounter, removing them from the battle (Honorspren may not like that, though). I would also be very curious to see the resonances that arise from the two usually separate power sets being combined in this manner. WOB that this would work:
  19. We also see that the Fused inhabiting the body cause some change in the body to better align with their Identity. This probably further muddies the ability to distinguish them, unless you're in a position like Venli where you can see Leshwi shaving her chin of any growth.
  20. Maybe it is related to the fact that Leshwi is inhabiting a Singer's body, where Kaladin has had minimal interaction with them as a whole and as such would not really know what to look for to take a guess.
  21. This would also allow what we may have chalked up to artistic licence in regards to Plate until now to be somewhat more canon, in that no one form of plate is the 'true' representation of it, each Knight was able to form their plate in a different way that was more suited for their goals. Though it was likely that, during the height of the Knights Radiant, there was a very distinct view of what Plate was and wasn't, whereas our new Radiants may not have to follow these same conventions about it. Kaladin with form-fitting, aerodynamic flight suit for Plate would be awesome,
  22. Reading this instead of the version in the preview chapters actually make a lot more sense, maybe Brandon was originally going to have some statement about iron and steel there, but changed it to something on how advanced designs can interchange the metals in contact with the gemstone to give more control over the fabrial's function
  23. It could always be a Stormlight vs. Voidlight interaction there, wherein the secretspren react to the use of Stormlight, but other forms of Investiture. Hoid didn't draw any screamers when he Awakened in Kholinar at the end of Oathbringer.
  24. I prefer to interpret 'Brand' as in "Brands of cereal", if only for the mental image of different types of Fused as different types of cereal. Who would be cornflakes...
  25. We can't just go assuming that, can we? How ever shall people make theories about this otherwise!
