  1. Not really important. What is important is your soul. Someone needs to study it!
  2. Narration usually falls apart when wielded against the characters of another Author. But I've never heard of a case like yours.
  3. I'm an expert in Narration! Said a mysterious voice.
  4. The Emperor lands on something hard, and the darkness lifts. Around him a battle rages, although the forms of those fighting is as of yet indistinct. "I mean that as terrible as that might be for you, I'm surprised he wouldn't do anything to Subversion." -- "So what do you think?" Subversion asked. "Do you have an opening for me?"
  5. “Very well.” The bird, the river, and the entire forest dissolve into mist around the Emperor. The ground beneath his feet trembles, then dissolves as well, dropping him into darkness.
  6. “I am not responsible for your dreams.” Omen the bird responded. “Now, before you begin your trial I must make sure you understand some rules. While you are in the trial, I will allow no communication with the outside world. If you attempt to bypass this, you will fail and I will send you away. Do you understand this?”
  7. The traveler blinks. “That’s all?” — Subversion nodded. “Indeed! With all these new Enullers running around, I figured I should see what getting Enulled feels like.” “I see.” The traveler doesn’t seem convinced. “I am Omen.” The bird’s beak does not move as it speaks. “Do not be alarmed by my appearance. Dreams are not always nightmarish.”
  8. I think there's a serious problem with assuming that something needs to be water in order to get things wet. There are lots of liquids (ethanol, to name one) that can get one wet and yet are not water. So the real question is not whether it contains water but whether it is liquid-y enough to qualify as wet and whether or not water is wet.
  9. The songbird hopped along the ground towards him, eyes far too piercing for a simple bird. “That is a worthy fear. You seek the Dreamsmith?” Unintelligible tried to smile, but it came off as a more of a grimace. “Just as long as it’s better than ‘Subsy’.” “Hey Bacon,” the traveler interjects. “What will Onyx do if Nogard is killed by Subversion?” — Subversion nodded. “Perhaps I could help with that. I know you’re a big organization, but how often do your Enullers get a chance to practice Enulling a full Narrator in a risk-free environment?”
  10. “Art matters,” the traveler’s grey eyes says softly. “But whether it depicts suffering or joy, utmost delight or abject despair, it can still be a masterwork. The worth of art, if measured in any way, should be measured in the emotion it evokes. But why then does happiness matter? Tragedy can evoke emotions just as well.” A voice speaks from behind the Emperor. “Tell me, Narrator. What is it you fear most?” Subversion crossed ‘get Nullite from the Enullers’ off of her list. “Well, sorry to bother you. I’ll be going now…” She tilted her head to the side, an idea sparking in her mind. “Actually, something just occurred to me. You lot are currently training a bunch of new Enullers, correct?” Unintelligible moved to Sequence’s side with concern.
  11. The Emperor appears beside the river. There is no sound save for that of the wildlife one would normally find in a forest, and no sign of any intelligent life. A songbird flutters down to land on a branch in front of him and begins singing a beautiful melody. The traveler narrows her eyes at Hacob. "I'm asking Narrators why we should care about people. I figured you'd be a terrible person to ask, but I'm also getting pretty desperate, so... yeah." "Oh." Subversion set her pen down sadly. "I doubt you'll let me have it then."
  12. As the Emperor meditates, an image of a gurgling stream flowing through a forest fills his mind. "I don't know. Maybe we should try Hacob?"
  13. Oh yeah. So basically me and you. The traveler shivers. "You know, I don't really like his answer. Being 'blessed' to care for others sounds a whole lot like being forced to care for others. I wonder who his gods are?" She turned around. "Well Tam, should we get going?" @Ookla the Inconclusive -- Somewhere far off, Omen feels the Emperor seeking him and begins to prepare for the trial.
  14. "Then seek Omen. And be prepared for what comes next." Unintelligible teleported away back to Sequence, and Subversion continued filling out her paperwork. After a time, she looked up. "Is there a particular answer you're looking for under the 'intended use' section? Not that I'd lie, of course. Just curious."
  15. “In any way? Certainly.” The traveler’s grey eyes meet the Emperor’s. “Will he fight for you? Doubtful. You could visit him yourself if you have need of a weapon, but be prepared to face Omen’s trials.”
  16. "I see. So you are blessed with compassion by your gods. Interesting." The traveler frowns. "I'll think about it. In any case, you answered my question, so I'll answer yours. What do you want to know about the Dreamsmith?" I'm sure I remember it from somewhere, some argument we or me and Hacob had. It's all the same.
  17. "You have been blessed with awareness that makes you care? What kind of awareness?"
  18. The traveler looks confused. "What was your answer? I must've missed it." Unintelligible fills the form out hastily, managing (barely) to remain in control of his powers well enough to keep from writing random gibberish. "Here, done." He thrust it back into the Enuller's hands. Subversion takes her time filling out her own form, mildly intrigued by Unintelligible's actions.
  19. The traveler scribbles down a reply. Thanks for your reply. Your first answer about enjoying Plot is much as Subversion saw things, before meeting Nogard. "Of course. I'll go find someone who can help you. Be back soon." Unintelligible vanished. Subversion pumped her fist. "Hah! You hear that Platypus? I was right!" She beamed with pride as she checked off 'prove Platypus wrong about ex-Narrators being able to leave TLT.' off her list. "Next, I wanted to requisition some Nullite. Do you have paperwork for that or..." Unintelligible appeared in front of the Enuller reception desk, shoving Subversion out of the way in his haste. "Quick, do you know anyone who can treat Narrator's injuries? My friend has been gravely wounded!" @Ookla the Arbiter "Thank you." The traveler does her best to calm her nerves. "So, why don't you? Why do you care about the lives of others?"
  20. The traveler nods nervously. "Why should anyone care about anything, given that we're all fictional characters and given the power that a Narrator possesses?"
  21. "Then I have a question for you, if you don't mind answering it. I can tell you everything... well, almost everything I know about the Dreamsmith after. Deal?"
  22. "I see." The traveler paused for a moment to attempt to make sense of the Emperor's words. "I doubt the Dreamsmith will be able to help you in your war. Unless you need a weapon. Are you a Narrator?"
  23. "The Dreamsmith?" The traveler frowns. "What do you want with him? Also, who are you?"
  24. Unintelligible's concern grew. "Yeah. Um, I'd... better see if I can't find someone like that. Maybe the Dreamsmith? The Enullers?" That sounds about right. "Um, hello?" The traveler isn't exactly sure where she is now after the time warping. "Who are you?"
  25. "Oh." The traveler frowns at Sain. "Where are we? Also, are you a Narrator?"
