  1. The spirit doctor put a hand on Gaioh's shoulder. "Your soul? Really bad for spirit transplants. Doesn't like the body, even though this one is mapped to it nearer to perfectly than I thought possible. It's trying to die right now. You need stitches for certain, and that will probably just be a temporary solution." The Traveler stares at them for a very brief instant, then starts running away as fast as she can. "No, I suspect we'll need that wizard that attacked him as well."
  2. The spirit doctor examined Gaioh's soul carefully. "Wow, this is really shoddy work. Who did this transplantation? I mean, the body's great. Amazing container, perhaps the best workmanship I've ever seen. But you really should've used a stitcher. Also, this soul looks like a type C."
  3. The traveler makes a noise that's a cross between a yelp and a strangled shriek, slapping the bug with the rolled-up map. "It would have been a near thing. but so long as we can confirm Platypus's testimony, I'm almost certain that we can avoid the death sentence. They might even consider allowing him parole." "Oh, yes. Of course, it would have been better if he wasn't okay, as he's doomed to go on to become a planet-ruling dictator who outlaws marriage-" A horrified choking sound came from a nearby mound of sand "-and kill billions, but I suppose there's always something. Now, Gaioh, if you would let this doctor exam-"The spirit doctor raised his hand. "Um, actually, I'm a spirit surgeon. I'm not qualified to..." He trailed off as he noticed Subversion raising her hand to snap, once again proving his superior intelligence compared to the regular doctor. "But I'm sure I can figure it out! We learned all the testing techniques in spirit med school. Just a little rusty." He said hastily, beckoning to Gaioh and muttering. "get over here quick before she does something to jog my memory." "Split aspect? Oh, that split aspect." Subversion shrugged. "Not clue. I dropped her off at some exotic map store, and she said something about a castle she needed to visit. I wasn't paying much attention. Why do you ask?"
  4. "Okay then." Subversion snapped her fingers and a spirit doctor appeared. He looked around in total surprise, holding a pair of glowing tweezers and a strand of unicorn hair as if he'd been in the middle of stitching somebody's soul back on. "Where am I? Where'd my patient go?" Then, since he was slightly more Thread-aware than a regular doctor, he stared at Subversion. "Are you... a Narrator?" Moni shrugged. "It wasn't that hard. I have a Plotblade and a pack given to me by Nameless-a Narrator-that gives me what I need. Plus Perseus is a pretty tough fighter." She rubbed her side, wincing at the pain of her bruised ribs. "And yeah, Narrators usually follow rules. Whether that's because of a limited understanding of their powers or a desire to be able to interact meaningfully with other Narrators, I don't know."
  5. It only took him thirty years, but that was okay because he was able to revolutionize the health sciences on multiple different planets along the way, having been blessed with an incredible wealth of knowledge about everything from allergies to bone spurs and beyond.
  6. One thorough health evaluation and a hundred tests later, the doctor shook his head. "Sorry, can't tell what's causing his symptoms." Subversion frowned. "Oh. So we need a different kind of doctor! Gaioh, do you know any spirit doctors? If not I can..." She mimed a snapping motion. The doctor vanished now that Subversion wasn't thinking about him. Perhaps he even made it back to the proper planet. No, I just haven't hammered out all the details yet. Like what'll happen to Nogard if I execute plan B.
  7. Moni made a so-so gesture with her hand. "Eh, I wouldn't say we beat him, more that we fought him for a bit, I destroyed his fancy sword, and then Perseus snatched the keys while he was distracted by his burning desire for vengeance against me." Nope, not telling. Ask Bacon if you want to know.
  8. "Fine. If you want to be all caring about it." Subversion snapped her fingers again. "There. The patient will live a slightly above average human lifespan, say... 30% higher than usual? And she'll be healthy and happy and get married and have tons of children and grandchildren and will live happily ever after. Now will yo-what are you doing here? Shoo!" The priest, drawn by the mention of marriage, scuttled off into the shadows. Subversion turned back to Gaioh. "Now will you let the doctor look at you?" Ask Bacon. He's got the gist of it, although I've modified the plan slightly with the soul-splitting.
  9. Subversion shook her head. "No, he's an expert in all fields of medicine." The 'doctor' stared at Subversion in confusion. "I am?" Subversion snapped her fingers. "He is now, anyways." "Don't worry, I'm sure the patient will be fine." Subversion waved the doctor, who had a dazed look on his face from gaining centuries worth of medical knowledge in a moment, forward. "Here, this guy's sick. Treat him, will you?" The traveler realizes the futility of fleeing and slows her pace, praying that the insect isn't actually dangerous. "You might be alright then." Moni gestured at Perseus. "We had to fight a Narrator who called himself a god to get the keys into here. And you had that train, so the Render probably won't be able to get in unless he gets help from a Narrator." WHY CAN'T I REMEMBER HIM "That's not quite how trials work my apprentice. But this will help us make a case for a lightened sentence, particularly if we can get that wizard to testify." ... nodded. "With this we might actually be able to stave off an execution."
  10. "Well, I'll also put plan B into play if she dies of natural causes." A small group of even smaller sand people started laying siege to the sandcastle with a sand catapult. "Actually, I have an even better idea!" Subversion snapped her fingers and a doctor appeared. The doctor looked around in utter shock, holding a scalpel and forceps as if he'd been in the middle of cutting into something. "Where am I? Where'd my patient go?"
  11. Subversion created a sand castle for the sand person to live in. "Oh, I'm not quite sure yet." her eyes made quite an icy contrast to the heat of the flames. "Haven't decided how to deal with Nogard once my other self is gone." "I can make one! Or take you to one and back if that would be preferable."
  12. "Oh, I already did it." Subversion handed the sand person a miniature beach. "I took a page from Feanor's book and split the part of my soul that likes Nogard off into its own individual being, and told it to go find a satisfactory answer to my questions. Once I feel like it's had enough time, I'll go assess its findings and if it's figured out a solution, great! If not..." The beach burst into red flames and turned to ash. "Well, there's always plan B."
  13. "Gaioh, have you considered seeing a doctor? Might be better than ignoring your current state of dying."
  14. Subversion offered the small sand person a magical sand dollar that granted the holder eternal life and happiness. "I'm a big fan of sink or swim, you know?"
  15. Subversion shrugged. "Oh, I just decided to do some positive character development the best way I know how."
  16. "Nope! Never had much interaction with the Enullers. They're a reclusive bunch." "Yeah, I think it'll work out great!" Subversion offered the sand thing a sand dollar. Subversion laughed. "Really? You think you can take multiple Enullers? After fighting one insane Enuller mostly evenly, you think you can take multiple?" The traveler begins walking more quickly, eyeing the insect over her shoulder. Subversion smiled, definitely not thinking about all the ways she could make Bat's life more miserable. Moni took his hand and shook it. "That sounds really dangerous for you. Do you think the Render can get into Ragnorok?"
  17. The traveler gave the insects a wide berth, eyeing them warily. “Indeed!” … put the papers down with a flourish. “Quite a bad look for those arguing the Great Wizard should’ve trusted the organization.” “How am I-oh, yeah. I’m fine. I figured something out.”
  18. “Agree to disagree about the Narrator thing, but as I side, they’re mostly good.”
  19. "Oh. Sorry. But at least you're alive now to stop them from torturing other people."
  20. "You're lucky. Not all of us are so hard to kill." "I'm Moniker, Avatar-well, ex-avatar-actually, maybe still the Avatar and he's an ex-Narrator... whatever. I was Nameless's avatar, but then he died." She avoided looking at the mangled Redmaw bits beneath the wheels of the train. "His Render?" Moni inspected Faunus quizzically. "Also, I haven't heard of any Narrators called Faunus. Are you new?" The traveler gulps, clutching the map tightly as she continues on. I hope I'm going the right way. I still have barely any idea how to read this thing. "Perhaps," ... replied. "but I doubt that most of them would condone something like this. But I know of at least one Brave Adventurer who would perhaps consider such an action, and rumors say that he holds a Plotblade capable of such a feat." Subversion popped up, having recovered very well from her emotional crisis earlier. "Maybe you should just let them train you. I know they might be somewhat ominous, but Enullers in general seem like pretty good people. Aside from the whole 'trap all the Narrators in TLT' thing."
  21. Moni shook her head. "Not unless you have to. Speaking from experience, dying is terrible. You shouldn't ki-" Moni blinked in shock. "Wha-" Her face calmed. "Which one of you is the Narrator?"
  22. Moni stopped rummaging through her pack and ran to Perseus's aid, cutting him free of the net and slinging the temporarily contained monster away from him. It hadn't affected Cricket and Tam because Omen had learned of the trap and taken precautions against it. "Oh, thanks!" The traveler sets off into Onyx's realm, heading in the general direction of Onyx's castle. ... shook his head. "No, I don't think so. I think perhaps it is a more normal Plotblade. Dangerous, but not nearly so dangerous as one of those. However, if some rumors I have heard are indeed true, then this could be very good for our case."
  23. "Yes, he was. What I find more interesting is what he told Platypus after his defeat. That he was hired by a mysterious man who used a sword to 'make anyone who sought after the Dreamsmith visit this cave first'. A sword... perhaps a Plotblade?" "I said if you can help it! Killing things shouldn't be the first option, but it can be an option." Moni reached into her pack, hoping to find something that would help her stop the monster nonlethally.
  24. Moni pulled a net from her pack and threw it at the Redmaw. "Try not to hurt it too badly." "Oh, I see." The traveler frowned at her map. "Then that would mean... how far is it to the Inspector's abode?"
