  1. The not-Malevolence follows the shadow. "You are a great teacher of evil I suppose?" "All I require is your permission to begin." Oh, another employer? Excellent. The more experience the better! What would you have me do? The withergeist looks at Rebus, but does not seem intelligent enough to speak. It merely continues moving towards the rift made by the failed experiment. In the nothingness behind it, Rebus sees others. A traveler carrying a large book bumped into Bat on his way up to the inn. "My deepest apologies." He said in a priestly voice, then continued up the path.
  2. A small, pitiful being of darkness moves slowly towards the crack in the wall. Its arms are clawed, and they drag along the wall making the scraping noise that Rebus had heard. Malevolence coughs some more, then goes back into his lab to make further preparations. -- A vague amount of time later A mysterious figure approaches the Gorbi stronghold. "Hello?" He calls in a robotically modulated voice. "Is anyone there?" @Halcyon The Only
  3. I will most definitely do no such thing! I must learn from a variety of evil masters in order to attain true evilness. The pole is stopped by the wall, but there is no effect beyond that. Just before Rebus floats back into the universe, he hears a noise. -- "Master Malan." Malevolence says. "Is our meeting at an end? I must get to work immediately if I am to obtain the results you desire."
  4. "Thank you for the help. I shall soon have the results you require." Malevolence said. Clearly he would have to seek further information elsewhere. Again this is tempting, but how could I betray my masters? They teach me so much! On the other side Rebus finds nothing. utter emptiness, the absence of existence. behind him is a wall of incredible light, the gap he had come through a tiny crack in the magnificent wall that separated existence from nonexistence. Moni used Endings to end the effect of Kion's spell on her.
  5. He feels a slight tingling, but notices no adverse effects. "Fine." Kion feels a strange tugging sensation, then the Moni inside the cave stands up, pulls a rope from her pack, and begins tying up the Moni outside the cave. Malevolence gasps for breath on the floor, throat raspy. "As you command, it will be done. But still, information would improve my odds of success. If you don't wish to explain it to me, perhaps a subordinate could?" What offer was this? The one I must deny due to my... conscience?
  6. "Failure? I did not fail. I found your quarry when you had no idea where they were, and discovered that although their powers were too much for me while I was unprepared for them, they are extremely vulnerable right now. Your primary target Cricket? I injured him, and he was already on his last legs before that. Tam is psychologically compromised and half-dead of frostbite. All of this was before I detonated a small nuclear device in their face by the way. I'd say that I was at least as effective as your 'most powerful servant' was, if not more so." The pole seems to be undamaged. Both Monis shake their heads. "What code phrases?
  7. There is no sign of his friend, as is to be expected of one who was at the center of a planet-destroying explosion. The camera Rebus sent into the void sends back footage of absolutely nothing. Both Monis gasp indignantly. "Hey!" Complains the Moni inside the cave. "How could I be a Faceless? I've been inside the cave this whole time." "You think I might be a clone of Rebus? No, I'm not. Just an independent evil genius." Fingers disconnected from brain for a second there, thanks. "Welcome!" Malevolence was slightly surprised by the ease with which his bases defenses were compromised, but supposed that Malan would hardly be a master of evil if a mere fledgling mastermind's defenses could stop him. He bowed to his employer. "It is good to meet you. Could you perhaps explain in a bit more detail exactly what 'Enullers' and 'Narrators' are?" Kills you or gives practically unhealable wounds, depending on where you get hit. She wasn't actually stabbed with Mordite, just something sort of similar.
  8. Malevolence tumbled to the ground of his hideout, breath coming in gasps. A few quick words activated his medical bay, mechanical arms grabbing him and extracting the Nullite blade from his side and patching up his wound. As the medical machines worked, he opened a channel to his employer. I have just returned from engaging Cricket and Tam, as well as a friend of theirs, Bat. I believe that I need more information about their abilities if my next attempt is to be successful. Are you available to meet in person? @Ookla the Irreplaceable
  9. Haly can Malevolence keep the Nullite knife? His Narration works, and the camera floats into the void without incident. As he works, Rebus notices debris that look like melted chunks of a planet floating around him. Moni looks up from her conversation with Faunus. “Yeah, I’m awake.” “One of us?” Malevolence’s voice is strained slightly, and he sounds out of breath. “Whatever do you mean?”
  10. @Halcyon The Only Malevolence teleported away right before the explosion. Did you want the Nullite knife to stay behind, or is it okay if it goes with him?
  11. Well, Tam could save them with her Narration. Cricket might be able to dull the explosion with his powers.
  12. Malevolence forced out a grin. "You'll never get anything out of me." Then the thermonuclear grenade in his chest exploded and he was gone.
  13. "Well that won't do. Not at all." Malevolence coughed. "Can't learn much about evil from inside a prison cell." He raised his right hand shakily and tapped a glowing spot on one of his mechanical arms. "The tea is empty." He said. "The tea is empty."
  14. Rebus found himself floating in the void of space. In front of him there is a patch of darkness that somehow stands out from the rest. A jagged rip in reality, opening into utter nothingness. Moni continues walking forward. "What's wrong? You seem perturbed." Malevolence's swing, aimed for Tam's heart, took Cricket in the arm. Bother. But that should at least take care of the most da-cold pain shot through him as the Nullite dagger slammed into him. He slammed against the wall, side going numb where he'd been stabbed. "Well, that's unfortunate. I don't suppose you'd consider letting me go in peace?" "Just the conversation between you and the Dreamsmith please." Hi!
  15. “It’s a code phrase.” Malevolence said amiably. then the teapot he’d set on the fire earlier exploded, filling the room with fire and toxic gas. At the same time, the metal arms that had fallen to the ground sprang up, cutting the aspiring master of evil free and wrapping around Cricket’s legs to slow him as Malevolence rolled away along the floor, pulling a glowing laser knife from his boot as he lunged through the gas for Tam. ”Yeah,” Moni said. “A lot of them are. Most aren’t malicious, they just… don’t realize the pain they can cause with a few sentences.”
  16. “No clue! I didn’t ask for details.” Malevolence shrugged. “Time to serve the tea.”
  17. “Indeed.” Malevolence replied. “I was tasked with murdering Tam and Cricket by my new evil mentor. I suppose I could have been more inquisitive about your powers, but I need more practice adapting to the unexpected anyways, and I thought my precautions would be more than enough. “I can’t reach my boot pinned like this, and I swear there’s no other weapons on me.” “Well I’m sorry for being cold towards you.” Moni whispered. “I don’t like Narrators, leftover trauma from Nameless I guess.”
  18. Malevolence dropped his pistol, and the metal arms detached and fell to the ground as well. “There, happy? I don’t have anything else on me besides a knife in my boot, and that is hardly any threat to you.” He laughed ruefully. “As you can see, I underestimated your abilities. That knife is, um, rather cold. What is it made of again?” “Nothing.” Moni said. “Just talking about the quest.”
  19. “Maybe you’re worried about the quest? I know I am.” Moni’s stared at the wall of the cave. “I just… don’t know if I’m going to be able to do it. Help Perseus, that is.”
  20. Pinned as he was, Malevolence could do little to dodge Cricket’s attack. “Hang on!” He shouted desperately. “Just wait one moment, we don’t have to kill each other! I have information about the one hunting you!”
  21. DONT LISTEN TO HER LIES!!!
  22. Mechanical arms sprouted from Malevolence’s face, catching Cricket’s fist. “Should’ve just killed him without warning. Oh well, live and learn.” He turned the pistol on Cricket flicked the dial back to lethal, and opened fire. The laser dispersed on Malevolence’s energy shield, and he glanced at Tam, surprised. “Wha-“ Malevolences struggled to break free. “Hang on a second. How’d you do that?” A visor snapped down over his face, giving him access to a holographic replay of the events with energy signatures included. “Incredible! What kind of magic or technology can manipulate reality on such a scale?”
  23. Subversion looked at 656 in horror. "Of course they need another designation! The title of 'hero' is far too great a burden for anyone to bear all the time!"
  24. Love changes a dial his pistol. "I wasn't specifically ordered to kill you, so if you'll just stand right there..." He pulls the trigger and the pistol fires a laser meant to overload Bat's nervous system and knock him unconscious. "Yes, an intelligent idea. I'll make sure to add it to the energy controlling calculations." Balitan's fingers fly across his keypad as he updates the program. "There's no need for your concern. The shielding is quite robust. I built it with much larger amounts of metals in mind. With such small amounts, I doubt there's anything to wo-" Light filled Rebus's vision. fire burned his flesh. There was no noise, at least not that he could hear. Just light, fire, and when the light was gone, darkness. Moni laughed. "Oh, you think I'm a Faceless? I guess I shouldn't have snuck past you." She took a step closer to Kion, and he noticed that her dagger was missing from its usual place at her side. Love is in Malevolence after all. And it seemed a good name to distract Authors from his true identity. Calling a witness does not mean they can't be hostile. And Platypus's paperwork made it clear that he should be considered hostile to the prosecution. Besides that, it's not necessary to always object. "Well?" Prompted the lawyer. "What happened during your visit to the Dreamsmith?"
