  1. “Oh, knives are generally quieter than deathrays, and I was hoping to catch Cricket and Tam by surprise.” ‘Love’ pulled a compact futuristic pistol out of his pocket and pointed it at Bat. “Don’t move, if you please. This packs considerably more punch than a thrown knife.” Against a hostile witness. … raised an eyebrow at Platypus, but remained silent. “Very well.” Balitan loaded the sample of all four substances into a machine, then powered it on. “Won’t be long now!” He moved over to a computer screen showing energy readouts. “Energy fluctuations are slightly higher than expected. Still within safe parameters though.” “What?” Moni frowned. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
  2. "Pity." Love pulled a knife from somewhere and threw it at Bat's leg.
  3. "I see, I see." Love nods to himself. "Not very long then. You and Tam are... friends, I presume?" "My process for acquiring Luxite? Nothing complicated. I just created a system to find places with relatively high concentrations of Luxite, then sent out specialized drones to collect it. Takes a long time, but fortunately the pages have been going by quite fast. Only took a bit under a thousand to gather this much. Purification was trickier, but this machine here," He tapped a machine on his workbench. "Did the trick. Any more questions?" "Hm. There's something out here I think you should see." Moni pointed at something out of Kion's line of sight. "Come out here and look at it." "Basically, yes. Although I haven't decided what they'll be the hero of precisely." "Sure, after the trial." Love gasped. "Teleportation on command? Incredible!"
  4. "Well in theory it should be as simple as manipulating them to be in a malleable state, then placing the metals into close contact with each other. I'll start with just a tiny amount of each, just to be certain the process works safely." Balitan works quickly, taking the metals from Rebus and preparing tiny portions from each of them. "Once we have Balancium, we can go about finding its properties." Should have specified in the last post, she's approaching from the outside of the cave. Moni stopped a few feet in front of Kion. "It's good that I was awake, considering how you dozed off." "Ah, nice to meet you Bat. Have you travelled with Cricket and Tam for long?"
  5. "Ah, so you also wished to not freeze to death. Intelligent." Love's water started boiling, and he dumped some tea leaves into it. "Oh, I just realized that I haven't asked any of your names. Tam is the one who's almost frozen, Cricket is the one who pointed that magical dagger at me, but who are you?" "Oh, you use numbers don't you? Yes, their identifier. Like you go by 656, and I go by Subversion." The traveler frowns back. "It's a bit complicated." Moni approached the mouth of the cave. "Hey Kion. Glad to see you're awake." @Dragonheir
  6. “It’s rather boring not being able to use my Narration.” Subversion explained. “So I’m writing a book to pass the time. What should I call the main character?” — “No clue.” The traveler says. “I’ve only been alive for a few page-er-days, an my memories from Subversion are fractured. “Oh, don’t bother yourself. I’m fine here.” Love pulled a collapsible pot from his pocket and walked over to set it up on the fire. “What brings you and your group to this place?” The contract he signed counts as being sworn in.
  7. “Well, I’m quite good at getting into places I’m not expected to be in.” Love shivered, glancing back at the outer door. “Particularly when the other option is freezing to death. I’m here because I got lost in the snowstorm outside, obviously. As for who I am, I am merely a humble traveler.” He dug into his pockets, muttering to himself softly. It’s not the Priest. He only comes around after a profession of true love. ”Luxite can, as I have theorized, be gathered in extremely small amounts. It is after all the substance that the foundations of reality are forged from.” Balitan holds up a very small vial with a few minuscule grains of metal in it. “It will take time to figure out how to increase production, but I believe I could easily increase my yields by five or six times with the improvements to my procedure. As for synthesis, we’ll have to find out! I assume you’ll let me access your stores of the other fundamental metals?” Malevolence’s voice is hushed for some reason as he replies. “Well I’d be happy to help you in any evil endeavors, just call me. I’ll leave a line open to you.” ”Platypus.” The lawyer asked. “Is it true that you visited the Dreamsmith, and that he confirmed the correspondence between himself and the accused was legitimate?”
  8. That is in fact exactly the circumstance this rule was found to be necessary for!
  9. "Tea sounds wonderful!" Love took off his cloak, which was quickly becoming soaked through with melted snow, and hung it by the fire to dry. "That storm seemed to come from nowhere huh? Good thing we were so near to this shelter."
  10. The man struggled to rise, pulling back his hood to reveal an innocent-looking young man with white hair and purple eyes. "I am Love!"
  11. Here you go "I have finally been able to synthesize a miniscule amount of Luxite!" Balitan laughs. "I can create the until-now hypothetical Balancium, a combination of all four metals!" "Oh, I've just entered the world of evil recently. Finally prepared enough for it, you know? I suppose I could give this tech to other evil people. Then I could use it to perform evil backstabbing on them!" "No problem." Subversion said distractedly. "Now, what do you think's a good name for a protagonist?" "Ah. Do you think the trial's going to have any insights on deep philosophical topics such as the meaning of life?" A cloaked figure slammed the door open, practically falling through it in his haste to get inside. He just barely managed to stay on his feet long enough to close the door and lock it before collapsing to the ground. "By the fangs of the dragon, it's cold out there!"
  12. An update for you, dear readers! Omen has a new rule that needs adding, and since he's busy right now, he asked me to add it! Here it is: No splitting your consciousness before you undertake the Dreamsmith's trial. Why is he putting this rule in place? Well, it probably has something to do with the way Omen brings you to the Dreamsmith. Regardless of the reason, I'd follow this rule if I were you. Who knows what terrible things will happen if you don't?
  13. Malevolence looked around the room, surprised. "You are powerful. You can maintain a link without my communicator? I'll have to install some more shielding to make sure I can get privacy."
  14. Malevolence nods to himself, then shuts down the communication to go create a device capable of finding the ones his new evil overlord had requested him to kill. "There's that word again, Enuller. And Narrator. I wonder what those are? And what's a Plotblade? Ah, I'm sure it's unimportant. The power of technology surpasses all else."
  15. Do not worry, I will be careful and efficient. They will never know what hit them. "My pamphlet was incomplete. I shall have the dead Narrator update it." If mist could be said to frown, then Omen's foggy face is certainly frowning. "There are no other rules that you need to be aware of at the moment. Begin your trial." Fog envelops Rebus, and he is drawn into the vision. Rebus stands in a laboratory. Beside him Balitan, a genius scientist that he's been working with for years, laughs suddenly. "I've done it!" An intercom crackles to life nearby the artificial Rebus. "I patented it by not telling anyone else how to make it! Only thing that works in the world of evil." Terribly sorry that I couldn't help you. Be sure to call me if you need any other help. Malevolence ends his communication and walks over to his lab to begin work on a person locator. I wonder what an Enuller is? Probably some sort of wizard.
  16. I see! That is a truly dastardly plan. Ingenious, actually. It is unfortunate that I cannot do such a thing, as it would put a permanent negative mark on my hiring record. It would have been incredibly rewarding to learn everything these master villains know and then use that knowledge to strike them down, but my conscience quails at the thought of doing such a thing. Another slightly more secretive communication channel opened, showing an image of one eye closing and opening meaningfully. Very well! I shall locate them forthwith and enter unto an epic battle that will doubtless end with them both dead!
  17. Agony shoots through Rebus's arm, and he is blown backwards away from Omen with a flash of light. Omen cries out in pain, but a moment later he is in front of Rebus, foggy form angrily undulating. "You cannot partake in a trial with only part of your soul. You must be committed fully to the task at hand." He says in a dangerous monotone. "Bring your full attention to this task or give up on it." Sorry, but this communicator uses top-secret proprietary technology! Oh, great! ...Who are your opponents, exactly? Ah, so you need me to seek them out as well? Very well, I shall do so. Do you have a description? Anything besides their names?
  18. And you shall have it! Once I am officially in your employment, until the end of my internship of evil
  19. Aha! A taker! In order to properly serve you, I shall need a bit more information. Locations, specifically. Also, could you tell me your motives for killing them? I need to understand the great minds of the evil world if I am ever to one day create my own masterly plots. Very well mysterious voice of evil mentorship! I shall endeavor to be useful at a later date!
  20. "Indeed." Omen is in his ordinary foggy form, hovering a few inches above the rocky ground. Rebus appears to have teleported to the bottom of a chasm, sunlight peeking through the top far above, walls covered in glowing crystals. "If you are resolute, take my hand and begin your trial." Somewhere very distant, an evil genius was hatching a plan for total conquest. The plan was taking a long time to hatch, however, so the evil genius in question had decided to try a shortcut. Using his patented Evil Communicator, he sent a mental message to all the most evil people available. "Are you in need of an excellent and loyal servant to do your bidding? It's your lucky day! I, the great Malevolence, shall aid thee. I am well-versed in my magics, and while I don't have much experience in active evil, I am very quick on the uptake. I'm a go-getter with a penchant for destruction and chaos. My only weakness-if you can call it that-is my lack of a conscience. So hire my services today, and don't worry about paying me. I'm in it for the experience! @The Sly Cookie @Ookla the Irreplaceable I know you two have evil guys, but anyone else with an evil person is welcome to hire Malevolence. First come first served! Although he might be willing to work part time for multiple villains.
  21. He received an indication that Omen was prepared for his trial if Rebus wished to seek him out. Subversion blinked at 656. "Well if it's that important, I'll tell them. Not sure they'll believe me, but I'll try to be convincing." "Indeed." The traveler replies. "I hate paperwork. How's the trial going?" The Dreamsmith rises as well. "So you require a weapon that can deal with undying creatures? I am tempted to recommend Mordite, but weapons made from that metal come with high risks and I have none of it here." He strokes his metal jaw in thought, eyes glowing like embers as he examines the Emperor. "I can see a way to help you. You are a Narrator, and your soul is infused with the light of your gods." He nods to himself. "Yes, I think that would work. It will not be without consequences, but I can see a way to make a weapon that will allow you to contain them indefinitely." Yeah, Platypus has been called as the first witness.
  22. He feels Omen’s acknowledgement, and knows that his trial will be prepared.
