Brandon's said no to that before, multiple times: Brandon's also confirmed Hoid is not in Sixth of the Dusk either. If he was, that would've been impressive, perhaps he could've hidden in the background, wearing camo and going completely unnoticed... This needs to get memed, asap. Back to Threnody, People did wonder if Daggon was Hoid. But he turned out to be Felt. I'm kidding, we don't have any WoBs on Daggon. Maybe Brandon wanted Daggon to be a Hoid cameo but changed his mind, and now changed his mind right back. Given Daggon's perceptiveness & him being a storyteller, he's the character most likely to be Hoid, if Hoid does appear in the story.

Oh, oh, I do not like this image There's some good ones on the tumblr links given by 17th Shard Twitter account, check them out, they're pretty funny. There's some on Discord too

That's the new fav mo for a lot of people now, I think I really like Wayne whenever he's not being funny, I don't mind Shallan's jokes tho You like Reckoners? Have you heard of Worm?

What's your favourite Sanderson book? Favourite character? Favourite moments from his books?
-
I assumed that was Cultivation influencing him, but yeah, this is plausible too. Do note though, that the particular emotions associated with a Shard's Intent aren't necessarily indicative of that Shard's presence. People can be honorable without honor, angry & spiteful without Odium, and so on.

Could a Spren function as Linchpin Spike?
Honorless replied to sir sprenalot's topic in Cosmere Discussion
A large enough Cognitive hole would allow a Cognitive or Spiritual being to influence the person, so the spren might be able to influence their emotions. Being the Hemalurgic spike itself would give it a bigger foothold than most Bonds, I imagine. Using a spren as a linchpin spike might mean drawing power from the spike rather than power directly from Ruin to hold the patchwork soul together, that might have some effects. -
Yes, there's parallels in Mistborn as well I'm sure there's others, but I've forgotten what they were. There are many older topics on this though, just Google Search LDS or Mormon + Mistborn.

Mitigating the loss of power with time
Honorless replied to ScadrianTank's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There's a limit to how diluted the power can get, thankfully probably same for Feruchemy, which is in a similar state Aside from genetics, how Harmony changed Snapping also had an effect on it, apparently Someone pointed out a while back that when using the Bands of Mourning, Mist poured out of Marasi, kinda like how Stormlight pours out of Radiants while they're holding it. -
Oh. Oh. Oh wow. Did not notice that. So spren might've been able to think on the Physical Realm via Connection to Honor when he was alive? Or perhaps Ba-Ado-Mishram? Hmm, no, that would probably have been mentioned by the spren if they could once keep their mental faculties while in the Physical before the Recreance or Honor's death. So this is something exclusive to Odium & his spren.

Welcome to the Shard! Look forward to seeing you around on the forums! RoW still has its spoiler forums but Dawnshard doesn't, so... you'll likely get spoiled because we got important info from it, sorry! Don't forget to ask for Aether of Night, benefit of joining the Shard! And get White Sand prose while waiting, just subscribe to Brandon's newsletter on his site, the latest one that you get sent via email should have a link to download it. There's other stuff you can read for free on Brandon's site too, parts of Dragonsteel and Liar of Partinel, Way of Kings Prime, Warbreaker with annotations, extra scenes from Elantris & Emperor's Soul.

You should probably put [Sixth of the Dusk sequel spoilers] in the title and change it to just "that gun"

Trell is not Autonomy, at least not anymore.
Honorless replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I created a list on the possibilities of either Autonomy or Odium or both being Trell a while back: I've started to get the feeling that it might be Odium too, post Taravangian -
That is so cursed Okay, now that's a good one Hoid is totally the type to do that and say that

Harmony wants to Resurrect Vin
Honorless replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
*spits out tea* I think that's more TenSoon's worldview than Harmony's aim with Wax. Basically, Wax is supposed to be like "he Ruins to Preserve", I think -
Harmony wants to Resurrect Vin
Honorless replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yup, though given that this era wasn't planned, I think Harmony isn't looking at Wax specifically, like Ruin & Preservation were with Vin, but the kind of people he could use as his agents, in general, kinda like the spren look for prospective Knights Radiant. But Brandon has since expanded the Wax and Wayne era into a proper era 2, so it's difficult to predict whether Wax might prove central to this part of the conflict with Trell (the conflict with Trell is supposed to expand to and be central in era 3) -
Harmony wants to Resurrect Vin
Honorless replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So I just checked, and yup! Harmony and Paalm also refer to him as His (Harmony's) "hands", calling the Kandra His eyes. TenSoon also refers to Wax as His "Ruin", and himself (and the Kandra) as His "Preservation". Harmony is definitely looking for something with Wax. -
That question comes up a lot actually, here you go: Which seems to align with how Brandon has previously described Cohesion in the past, as opposed to Tension. I assume this Surge is what Dalinar used to repair the temple of Talenel in Chapter 59, but that's not actually essential to the point. Peter Ahlstrom I think this has to be an error in the text. Pagerunner Sorry, which do you think is the error? The order of Surges in the Ars Arcanum? Or the Stormfather's statement to Dalinar? Peter Ahlstrom The Stormfather's statement. Peter Ahlstrom I have verified with Brandon that what the Stormfather said here is wrong and will be corrected in the future. General Reddit 2017 (Dec. 14, 2017)

Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!
Honorless replied to Kidpen's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Elend (Hey, all the clues fit. Sorry to all those who did not want a reminder of his death or worse, the existence of his half-brother, Zane) -
Pagerunner's wonderful thread can come in handy with figuring out what exactly Tension and Cohesion are supposed to do: Though it's an older thread and doesn't contain the new stuff like Commands within the Surge of Cohesion, and the ancient Dawnsingers having access to some similar ability. I don't think we got anything new regarding Tension. Didn't see the Dustbringers in action either. Since Cohesion acting as the Surge of Stoneshaping (I phrased it as "acting" because Cohesion unchained would be as glorious as Microkinesis) apparently functions via Commands, similar to Awakening via BioChromatic Breath, you should be able to use it without needing to mold the stone with your hands. It functions via Connection to the very stones of Roshar, so it shouldn't require physical contact to use either.

Harmony wants to Resurrect Vin
Honorless replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Sazed did want to resurrect Vin but she chose to go into the Beyond. I don't think Sazed is the type to poke into cloning or anything like that and I don't think it's time yet for the Cosmere to get that sci-fi. I think he was just talking about getting a Champion of sorts, and from what we've seen, Wax could fill that role and is in the right place in the timeline. -
Here's a topic going broadly over how much we know about the Surges that we haven't seen much of yet, for anyone wondering about those Surges: Brandon's said that there might be differences between how some Orders use their shared Surge but it's not the case for most. There's been speculation before that Abrasion might work differently between Dustbringers and Edgedancers, letting the former increase friction and the latter decrease friction, or allow Dustbringers to do both as Chana was described as being very fast in the Fleet story, possibly a function of Abrasion to slide.

Wait a friggin minute, Raysium is solid Odium's Investiture but it didn't react with anti-Voidlight, his anti-Investiture and could be used to hold it, why didn't I notice this discrepancy!
-
Brandon could've been inspired by it. It's very "no fall so deep that grace cannot descend to it". I don't think I'd like that approach to Moash's story though, especially with Words of Radiance's approach to systemic racism with Dalinar-not-like-other-Lighteyes and Oathbringer's Kaladin-meets-poorer-Lighteyes, and Kaladin not technically being a Darkeyes anymore. If the Darkeyes Lighteyes race, caste and slavery gets any more minimalized and completely side-stepped and unaddressed, it'd look incredibly bad.
