  1. Yeah, I think people started theorizing in this direction since learning about Ambition in the AU
  2. Recently wrapped up The Torch That Ignites The Stars (Book 3 of Arcane Ascension) & Defying Destiny (Book 3 of War of Broken Mirrors) & Soulbrand (Book 3 of Weapons and Wielders) all written by Andrew Rowe and set in the same universe. And just wow. The characters and the magic system are amazing. Absolutely recommend if you're looking for something similar in scope to the Cosmere. The magic system, the magic system, the magic system... Squeeeeeeee! It subverts expectations, so I won't say much except that it's good, and don't go in expecting LitRPG, it's only one in name (thankfully... sorry, just not really into the genre), the author himself prefers the term progression fantasy and that fits. Also completed the Mage Errant series and ooh boy, I had severely low expectations. Book 1 was so meh, so full of tropes, it was unbelievable. Book 2 was also meh. Books 3, 4 & 5 on the other hand... were on fire. A lot of people did like the first two books actually, very comfortable, nostalgic, well-worn is how they described them. I think you get the gist. The magic system here is also just superb. This is also a broad scope multiverse, right now the hints are only in the appendices at the end of the books and a few scattered mentions, including a major one in the Lost City of Ithos (Book 4). Despite the YA tones of the first two books, the series dives into pretty dark stuff at times later on and the characters mature really well, and all of it is written really well. I'm vibrating here, trying not to give spoilers. There's another standalone book set in the same multiverse (the Aetheriad) called the Wrack, which is really unique. It follows the course of a plague in a world and so is pretty grimdark. The magic system here in this book is very unique. People replace their eyeballs with gemstones. There's... a sort of proto internet magic. It's all really cool. I'm doing a terrible job of selling this... just give it a try, it's good.
  3. Possibly the Listeners themselves? Might be part of how they escaped becoming the Parshmen
  4. A ruler questioning their decisions does not make that ruler an anarchist. Dalinar repeatedly complains about Azish bureaucracy and talks with Jasnah about having a single unified leader. Is Hoid an anarchist? I dunno. Maybe he'd be sympathetic to the idea but it doesn't really feel like he'd care. He wouldn't like dictatorships much but he seems more into maintaining his own free agency than trying to overthrow establishments. I imagine his views would be more nuanced given his advanced age. Sazed, huh... I could kind of see that with the old him. No idea about Harmony. The broader Cosmere setting and magics might look good for anarchism, I guess but I don't think any character or event is pushing towards that quite yet. We might see something like that in era 4, perhaps with the Sixth of the Dusk storyline, that seems plausible
  5. I like this one! I got Lightweaver & Willshaper, pretty similar results to the official quiz.
  6. "Seems"? Tarson of the Vanishers?
  7. Done! You are granted awesome drawing skills. "Awesome" in the older sense, inspiring awe, terror, dread. Your drawing are now terrifying, so terrifying, they're like banishment magic. I wish for a lot of money safely deposited in my bank account
  8. I meant that she might've thought that was a branch but it might've actually been a bone
  9. This is very difficult, I can't think of anything!
  10. You can continue that game here, if you want though:
  11. I'm glad to have brought you back : )
  12. Bartimaeus is pretty good. Mage Errant isn't bad either, though book one was so tropy I can't even, the latter books are better. Hmm... Luke Chmilenko isn't bad either, but I say pick Dakota Krout over him. Both Demonata and Darren Shan are by the same author and pretty short (but plentiful) books. Definitely don't read Gentlemen Bastards, the author seems to be pulling a Rothfuss-Martin maneuvre. It's been years. You could also try the Magician's Brother and Inkspice. I see no one's recommended Arcane Ascension yet, despite reccing Cradle, Mage Errant and Chmilenko! Definitely put that on your to-read list, it's very good. Non YA, you could try anything by China Miéville, he's really good! I just read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and I'd recommend that as well. Oh, and the Goblin Emperor by Sarah Monette.
  13. You should prolly just give the next clue, @Szeth_Pancakes
  14. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh Stahp
  15. I agree with you there, @thejopen27. Learning about the continued wealth disparity and disproportionate representation of nobles in era 2, the very same noble families that we hear of in era 1, was a very bitter thing. Then that moment where Wax goes all "I have to be the nobleman, not the lawman because thousands depend on my house for their livelihood" and it's played straight, that felt like a gut punch. Brandon really does a lot of noble nobles, even accounting for how pervasive pro nobility and royalty themes are in the high fantasy genre. The modern eras can't come fast enough... Well, assuming a few things about the modern eras. Disagree on the revolutionaries bit on a technical basis. We don't really meet any social revolutionary characters. The Vanishers are a gang, the Set are like some kind of Illuminati, I don't think Bleeder quite counts as that either, her problem was with Harmony's meddling. We really only see the social issues play out in the peripheries and in the broadsheets. Now, on an unrelated note, excuse me while I stare uncomprehendingly at people saying they like the Lord Ruler. Ugh, I just do not get why so many people like the Lord Ruler. He was a terrible human being. Points at the Final Empire. He turned his fellow Feruchemists into the Mistwraiths while he was holding Preservation's power. Killed who knows how many people afterwards establishing his rule. Then the entire Final Empire. He created the skaa to be a slave race. I swear I just keep seeing that scene where the fountain ran red whenever someone mentions him. Great on him not wanting Scadrian humanity to go extinct. Still a terrible person.

  17. Granted, but a very murder-happy ninja comes along with it I wish for a loyal murder-happy ninja
  18. Could be a continuity error or simply two characters having the same name. You should mention this here, in case it's an error:
  19. Granted, you can play any retro game that you want, for two other games that you hate I wish for the ability to copy any food that I taste and recreate it perfectly
