Hoid's Cryptic in Mistborn Era 2?
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Halyo_Alex's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, that's interesting. Main possibilities I can think of: she doesn't know the method, it's just that there's multiple reasons he couldn't go with them, and she only said the most immediately pressing one (that is, that being around Kel on-planet or off would be risky with his strong ties to Ruin); for whatever reason he can't locate her (which would surprise me, considering we haven't seen much indication she tries to hide very hard); or she just doesn't wanna tell him. Last one seems unlikely to me considering what Brandon's said about her: Guess she could consider him too dangerous, but if she's willing to share information with Hoid, I doubt she'd hide it from Kel. So option 1 seems most likely to me, I guess. -
I mean, you can cut someone's arm off even if it's not your arm.

Isn't that just because he sent her away right before the conversation began, but because his memory of it was wiped, he didn't remember that he had?

Scadrian vs. Rosharan magic post RoW
LewsTherinTelescope replied to NameIess's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Shardblades and Shardplate, perhaps? Yeah, this is the big one that a lot of people see, and draw the pretty logical conclusion off of. My guess is that, while the Shards are melding together somewhat, it's more just tying threads together, they do still exist separately but are made into a larger whole as well. Honestly, I'm curious where lerasium comes from in the first place. We know Rashek did not create it, nor was it placed there for him, but rather he had to get it, but that could be anywhere from "it generated at the bottom of the pool and he had to bend down" to "there's a whole lerasium mine across the world". (Also curious where ettmetal comes from.) Yeah, I'd guess -Preservation would be enough for Allomancy, though you'd need both for Feruchemy. Not sure if being inside metal would shield Hemalurgic spikes from -Ruin or not, I'd lean probably would, but worth a shot.- 1816 replies

Scadrian vs. Rosharan magic post RoW
LewsTherinTelescope replied to NameIess's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ruin and Preservation definitely both still exist. Some WoBs on this: They are not fully combined. He holds two Shards that are at odds with each other. There are fifteen Vessels, but still are sixteen Shards (he corrects himself to point out that there's even fewer Vessels than that, due to some Shards being unheld). Sazed's Shards do not cancel out, but rather both remain and tug at him.- 1816 replies

It's definitely a proper oath that he'd be allowed to, though that doesn't necessarily require he choose to exercise that right.

Are the ecologies of the Cosmere artificial?
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That might just mean Adonalsium created humans elsewhere too, though. Well, WoBs + the RoW AA imply that some very nasty nuclear things happened due to microkinesis... Though hopefully just isolated incidents and not wiping everyone out. -

Do you have a source for this? I haven't seen this, but I've probably just missed it. -

Only when he summons it, but yeah. WoK I-3:
-
Only when you have it summoned. Hmm, didn't consider that. That's interesting, because Szeth's eyes do change. Are the Heralds immune to it due to the CS thing or something?
-
Huh, interesting. Still not likely to be particularly usable, I'd guess, though, no? (Unless the residual effects are what you're after, I suppose.)

The second line of the article: "...The system is unstable..." (From a skim, the lifetime of the most stable variant is still only a microsecond? Which I guess is really long compared to some things, but still not exactly long-term lol.) But I do also wonder whether such a thing, if extraordinarily short-lived, might be possible with Investiture and anti-Investiture, same.

I'm a bit confused what this is, but hello... Man, it's a real shame Rithmatist isn't Cosmere anymore, because it fits really well, and Spiritual entities are cool. Plus, Rithmatics fills a nice little niche in the magics with some of its powers that I don't think the other Cosmere magics quite do (namely, convenient forcefields, as well as controlled chalklings). Would fit pretty neatly with some kind of rather oddly-shaped Selish country, actually. Dang that's a lot, I've only done two reads of most of the books... I've read the Liar of Partinel sample chapters too many times, does that count?- 70 replies

"Anything you can do, I can do ... just as well?"
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's probably in large part Connection hacking, imo, so yeah, the Ire device might be a good example of that already. An unsealed metalmind doesn't let you do things the power itself can't do, it just gives you access to it, so I doubt anything that works similarly would do that, personally. -

Rashek had a Physical body, for one thing, which was a major problem for Kel. Also, Rashek mostly used the power for the sake of Preserving. It refused to listen when he tried to destroy things. (Don't ask me why making the mistwraiths worked...) What do you mean? -
That's an interesting theory, but it still leaves hundreds missing from Feverstone Keep. It could definitely account for some of them, though. There's a lot missing either way.

There is no confirmation that Ruin and Preservation causing problems for one another is due to the same reaction as anti-Investiture.

This part's a bit unclear, as it turns out the Unmade are also counted among the singer gods, and so it might have meant Ba-Ado-Mishram rather than the Fused, and RoW has a mention of the listeners' weapons dating back to the False Desolation, but other things prior seemed to point to it being the Last Desolation iirc. But yeah, one of those two.
-
They fled during either the Last Desolation or the False Desolation (prior to RoW, the implication was the former, but RoW implies it to be the latter instead), throwing off their forms and abandoning the war. As such, they didn't have the forms of power when Ba-Ado-Mishram was captured, and so didn't suffer the same fate as the others.

The 5th Radiant Ideal
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Maddie The Survivor's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've liked the idea of sort of taking a more proactive role than reactive one, making a world that doesn't need you to constantly be protecting it. This could manifest as a teacher training others to protect themselves, as a mediator taking a leadership role to avoid conflict, as a therapist helping people fight their own demons, those kinds of things.
