  1. Doesn't Plate come with a spot for gemstones? Or am I misremembering?
  2. I'd guess probably! Could be very useful. Hmm, I'm not certain. I'm leaning no just because it makes things a bit simpler if it's always the same ones, but it sounds like it could be possible.
  3. I don't think so, because we see his confusion at what the hell's going on, and him forgetting things (for example, forgetting he did the coin trick, and forgetting that he sent Design off). But that's an interesting point!
  4. Still raises the question of things like making Light and her status as seemingly essential to Roshar, because these sound more like what you'd expect from a Bondsmith spren.
  5. That WoB is extremely loosely worded.
  6. Sorta. They're kind of Spiritually an alloy of Honor's metal and Cultivation's.
  7. Eh, imo Odium can grant it just fine, he just doesn't want to risk granting the Fused power over Connection because they might be able to escape his control and take others with them. I think there's some truth to the "truest Surge" thing in that it aligns very neatly with Honor's Intent, but I don't think it's unique to him (for example, bonding the Nightwatcher, probably our most pure Cultivation spren, grants it), I think Odium just seized on that as an excuse. Lift's Progression also isn't blocked, and yet the Fused use that Surge fine. Very possible, yeah. I was thinking more along the lines of (if it's not just Vorinization, which is a big if) some powerful entity that's not quite an Unmade, but over time got conflated with them. No idea who this entity would be, though.
  8. They're correct, there's no Unmade equivalent for the Bondsmiths (which raises the question of what in Damnation's up with Ba-Ado-Mishram, then). We know that the Unmade existed during the Desolations (at the very least, Yelig-nar is mentioned in the Nohadon vision, which seems to have been pretty early considering it's pre-Knights Radiant). Side note, quote for thought (OB 77): I'm... not sure what to make of this.
  9. We finally found a combat use for Sebarial!
  10. I would agree that its current form was undiscovered (I believe it was mentioned that they imitated the Honorblades?), but I don't know that I think it didn't "exist" prior to then (though whether it exists when nobody knows the method to unlock it might be a difficult question to answer, with the weird intricacies of Surgebinding's existence). But ultimately this is probably a bit pedantic of me Yeah, I'm very curious what's up with that.
  11. Some of this is... debatable. First, the Radiant spren predate the Ashyn crisis and the Fused: Syl tells us they are ten thousand years old (though them making the Radiant bond was a surprise, iirc). Second, it is by no means clear that the Ideals were added on after-the-fact.
  12. Something I'd note about the exact quote: There aren't just dozens of Radiants with Plate, there are hundreds, just at Feverstone Keep. (In fact, the scene doesn't describe any Radiants as having Blade but not Plate that I can see, though likely Dalinar missed a few in the crowd or I may have missed a description.) Considering every single honorspren was bonded at the time, and presumably most of the other spren of other races that were going to be willing to bond had, it wouldn't shock me if most had had time to hit the Fourth, though certainly not all (see: the dude in the gemstone archive).
  13. We do know that, generally, even decapitation will not stop Cosmere healing, though we don't know about Radiants specifically.
  14. Ah crap, thanks. Fixed.
  15. WoKP:
  16. My guess? One thing in common with both Re-Shephir/Shallan and Dalinar/Nergaoul was that the person had a strong connection to the Unmade. If the Radiants didn't have anyone who would be likely to have such a strong connection to Ba-Ado-Mishram, a Bondsmith could probably use their Connection powers to forge one.
  17. I'd say that Nale (either intentionally or unintentionally) is discouraging the traits needed, honestly. Szeth's highspren tells him he will need to leave behind the crutch of the Third and determine what's right on his own, but I get the feeling Nale would very strongly be against this.
  18. I imagine in the past they did, yeah. And the Steel Ministry considers sixteen holy, to the point that they even say "well there has to be sixteen metals and we're just missing some". Yeah, sometimes it's hard to tell where a magical thing is intended or where Brandon just wants a theme, lol. I'd note that those examples of five all probably are very connected to Endowment, whether that's because Endowment is inherently tied to five or because perception of five as a special number makes her act that way.
  19. I'd guess it comes from the perception of the people on the planets, at least for Roshar. The Rosharans and presumably Ashynites believe in ten Surges, ten fundamental forces of creation, which then causes things to manifest in tens. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Braize, the Fused, only believe in nine, due to believing Adhesion is a false Surge, and so most things happen in nines there. Related:
  20. This is great In-world Hemalurgy chart has to come from somewhere! Love all the references to the other Cosmere worlds with those books, Kelsier becoming a true interplanetary scholar of the (Invested) Arts. Oh no.......... Ah, so a perfect analogy for our favorite murder boi himself! (Though somehow he always manages to reassemble himself after exploding.)
  21. The Voidspren in her gemheart is a non-sapient Voidspren, not Ulim. Her non-Radiant powers (which are not confirmed to be Voidbinding) are due to her being a Regal.
  22. I just want my poor boy Szeth to be happy again But he does seem to be backsliding and losing much of the progress he made in Oathbringer, so I've been very worried about him being open to Odium too, yeah.
  23. It's mentioned that Odium, via various agreements, isn't able to directly act much on most people. The agreement protecting Hoid appears to be a different agreement, which I guess allows for the wording to be looser and allow more loopholes than the protections for everyone else?
