  1. Is that a TF2 heavy quote? *Laughs in American* That's awesome!
  2. Inside the body is fine. They could be injected, inhaled, or even piercings technically. Well they could if they could burn shardblades
  3. Well, I just finished my read, and honestly this was such a welcome break from a lot of Brandon's recent works. If it wasn't for WoK and AoL I'd say it's crazy to believe that IED and WaT were written by the same author only a year apart. I saw a really cool analysis by @VirtuousTraveller that I'll link here but I thought I'd go over all of my thoughts on this. Altogether this read was highly enjoyable while still retaining its place as a side story in the overall cosmere. There were a few small problems, but altogether it was genuinely one of my favorite cosmere novels. What I liked: What I did not like Altogether this book while certainly not perfect was a massive positive sign after WaT, RoW and TLM. I definitely saw a serious uptick in the general quality of dialogue, and felt a pretty serious overtone in general. Now this wasn't a full return to form for Brandon as I was definitely lacking the post book high that made some of his early books so great, but all in all it was genuinely a solid book for me. I'd place it just after TSM in my list of favorite Cosmere books, and I seriously hope that FoD continues this trend of improvement.
  4. It's also possible that they figured out how to undo the damage to the planet and so they no longer fear doing it.
  5. Well assuming things like Dawnshards and Nightblood are off the table, I recommend using a Tai-Na gemheart. The gemstone would be the size of a small house, and if a Connection could be formed like Starlight did with the one Evil at the very start of the book you might be able to trap one like Melishi did with BAM.
  6. @Aliroz-The-Confused after having read IED I have decided that you need to read that one ASAP. That one might give you some of this hope back.
  7. It's just Autonomy who's there. And White Sand is a graphic novel, but it's become kind of hard to come by lately.
  8. Taldain, if you've read White Sand it's that planet
  9. Using AI for worldbuilding is just so satisfying. I can probably count on one hand the number of friends I have who would just sit down and worldbuild fantasy ninjas with me. AI has my back.

It can be used to take people's jobs,

just for the record, I object to this being framed as unethical. Every advancement in technology has led to the loss of jobs. Cars? no more horse-carriage drivers. the internet has dramatically reduced the need for newspapers and their salesmen. The industrial revolution reduced the handmade textile industry. I could go on. AI is no different in that regard. I wouldn't call any of those advancements immoral, so I don't call AI immoral for that reason. other reasons can still be on the table, but I don't think that "taking jobs" is a valid reason to call something immoral.

has even convinced people to kill themselves, and fed into insane people's delusions

For the record, the internet + social media combo has done somewhat similar things, but I wouldn't call those inherently immoral.

Second, while not confirmed, OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT) basically killed someone.

as for this, I think this is an allegation that requires a lot more proof than saying "he didn't like what they were doing and now he's dead so I blame them". Both articles you cited mention that it appeared to be suicide, and that it was confirmed by the city medical examiner to be so. I would need some sort of evidence that OpenAI was behind it before I would be willing to use that as evidence of immorality. (also, the owners of a product being immoral doesn't make the product inherently immoral, and even if it did, this is specifically OpenAI and can't be held against other AIs (Claude, gemini, perplexity, etc.))

In the end, my position on AI is basically "it is what it is, and it will be what it will be".

@Immortal Platypus, Those first to points I conceded do not directly lead to AI being immortal, and that last bit I admit was loose. But did you see the 2nd point (with the IP)?

I did see that. generally I fall in the category of humans will do what they do, and there should be restrictions, but there's only so much we can do. IP is not something I'm an expert in, nor do I pretend to be one, and it generally doesn't affect me that much. Plus, I don't mind terribly mind piracy, so to mind it from AI companies seems disingenuous to me. I totally understand why people see it as immoral, but I don't to the same degree.

  10. Interesting. I'm tempted to break TES open again and start looking for this now. Well that's another one right on the money. Dang you're doing really well at this lately. Really? *Happy Frustration noises* What parts?
  11. I honestly want to see Obrodai, it's just name dropped and then never touched again. That's honestly interesting, I hadn't noticed that Harmony and Endowment say different things about Valor, you're right. Though I doubt a shard could be fooled by an Avatar, they do have really good senses. You have no idea how much this made me laugh. Slight TSM spoilers, almost non-existent, like saying that Kaladin kills a lighteyes at the start of WoK level significance but I'll spoiler it just in case. Yeah I'm not bringing the WoBs in on this one. Unless you want me to. They don't say exactly what you're thinking, but it's along the same lines. Well we got Lumar, Komashi, Canticle, and whatever world FoD is on. I doubt that Autonomy has an avatar on Lumar as the Sorceress was only scared of Xisis and Hoid. I have been saying this for five and a half years, thank you.
  12. Well, they just failed to leave during their invasion a thousand years back.
  13. That's not how that works. Nightblood has an investiture conversion limit that is based on it's own power, not the speed he moves at. *Taps one day's worth of stored Victory for the biggest win the thread has ever seen* The Big Win.docx
  14. Well how is a revolt supposed to overcome Honorblades? Even if they overthrew one particular monastery their rebellion wouldn't last long against the Honorbearers and their acolytes.
  15. Yes they are aware. Honor was held by Tanavast Cultivation was held by Koravellium Avast
  16. Wait, people actually ship Syladin?

I thought it was a joke.

I wish it was a joke. I had a WaT theory that didn't happen, but I'll put it below

      Spoiler

I was expecting Syl to get transferred to the PR by Ishar and then Kal to become a Herald, which would leave him with a Blade and Surges, but would allow a Syaldin ship easier.

      Bro same xD

      At least the first part

      (WaT)

      Spoiler

      about PR

  17. I suppose I can understand that. Objectively based on what? That the characters don't come to that conclusion? They get things wrong all the time. If you make all interpretations equal that interpretation is valid. Why not? Well even those of us who accept WoBs wouldn't. In accordance with Brandon canon goes: Books > WoBs. It would not. Depends on the context. In comics it usually resulted from getting a new writer who was not the original author. In other media as long as the fundamentals of the text didn't need to change, such as The Hobbit being rewritten so that Bilbo finds the ring rather than winning it, then it would be impossible to determine. My mind would say it would be difficult to even make the case for it being a retcon in the first place. In that case there is still no Atium retcon as out knowledge was not contradicted.
  18. Literary criticism? I have to disagree with that term. It makes it sound like this is some sort of overly sophisticated college society rather than a bunch of nerds on the internet. As for death of the Author which is what you are getting at That's just an opinion with no more backing to it than any other, as happens when we're dealing with something made up like books rather than hard sciences like physics or chemistry. Brandon himself has said that death of the author is incompatible with the cosmere. If you choose to hold such a viewpoint that's fine but I don't think it's fair to hold such a viewpoint as superior, or something that others need to "accept" especially on a fansite where 99% of what we talk about comes from WoBs, which is literally just Brandon's interpretation of the Cosmere. Under such an interpretation there wasn't a retcon anyway as no change appeared in the books and only in Brandon talking about it. Related information By whom? The term originates from comic fandoms where it was used to refer to new comics contradicting or undoing old ones. Either through alternate universes, time travel, or just changing the canon with no explanation as frequently happens. Under such a definition as you propose the term not only does not work inside of its origin, but it also loses all identity as if simply recontextualizing counts as a retcon any reference to an event or topic that was already covered in the material would count.
  19. Dang, I lost again. On accident this time.
  20. That's not retroactive continuity, that's the original continuity explained more deeply. In order for it to be retroactive it has to change the original continuity, not just recontextualize it. If the original text needs no alterations that doesn't count as retroactive. That's not to say it's a bad thing, I believe several retcons have improved the continuity, just that some of these things are reveals and others are actual retcons.
  21. Storing victory and still winning? That's a flex and a half.
  22. I know right!? Like I could use it when playing against younger siblings or something so that I can try my hardest and they still win. And then later I can 1v6 while blindfolded. Does it make any sense with Physics or anything else? No. But it's so cool.
