Yes, they actually do that in RoW with the various Lightweavers making food on their journey. I honestly don't know why Brandon made such a big deal about using the oathgates as farmland. They can just make all the food they want. I suppose spices and other things would be nice to have, but not strictly speaking neccesary.

Cultivation, Lift, and Not Leaving Roshar
Frustration replied to Verdance's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've been thinking about this recently, and while it wouldn't be easy something like this could happen. Dalinar could open up a crap ton of elsegates like Cusichesh does, and let all the humans leave the system. The spren would be stuck as would all the radiants, but they should mostly be able to survive. Then Dalinar could beat the crap out of Taravangian without fear of killing people as a result and he can put Roshar back together afterwards. -
He said that he had armor spren from both his first and second set of ideals Unless I missed something big she did not, only her fourth

I was running a thought experiment some time ago about what could be improved upon in the SA, so I thought I'd let you see my thoughts here as I do have mild Sunlit man spoilers. WoK: This one is honestly really good. I'd probably just move the Shallan sections around as right not they are in really annoying locations. I'd also see about giving her more to do as Shallan spends most of the book not making any progress towards her goals. WoR: Jasnah's fake death isn't very impactful to the story, and weakens the ending with three fake out deaths one right after the other. We should get some confirmation that she's alive, and probably have her and Shallan speak once she's been transported to Shadesmar. Some of Shallan's dialogue could also be cleaned up a little but that's less of an issue. OB: Shallan's breakdown doesn't hit like it should, and her whole character is off for most of the book. Elhokar's death is also done so poorly I didn't believe he was really dead until almost two years later. The fused are also jokes, they need to be shown to actually be capable of serious damage. Dalinar kind of sucked up all of the emotional beats in the story, which made his arc really good, but left almost everyone else feeling flat. Unless Brandon wants Jasnah to be evil she also should probably have talked to Renarin before trying to kill him. RoW: The previous entries could all have used a little work, but it's here that big changes start being necessary. Despite the book being about Willshapers and having her flashbacks Venli is a surprisingly passive character. I'd honestly restructure the book, taking several of Kaladin's PoVs as well as most of Adolin's and give them to Venli. She also needs to be more active. I think her finding Kaladin and trying to help him, while also not getting caught would be a far more compelling story than what we got. It would also explain why the Radiants were so willing to let them go at the end of the book. And finally there are some mild inconsistencies between the WoR interludes, and what we saw in the flashbacks that need reconciled. Kaladin's depression is really mild in its depiction this book. WoK did a much better job with it. I know part of it was intentional, but it still needs work. Shallan's entire story for RoW is just a poorly done recreation of Dalinar's in OB at best, and an exercise in futility at worst. She spends the whole time saying that no one will love the real her, and I still remember thinking that there was no way the reveal would live up to it. I was right. She spends the whole book worrying about Formless, which was poorly revealed to just be Shallan the whole time. She worries about Ghostblood spies, which never existed. And the Testament reveal was rather weak. Navani spends the entire book being an idiot. Raboniel was one of the most obvious liars I've ever read in fiction, and Navani still fell for it. I know that more than anything Brandon just wanted to make anti-light but he could have done that without making Navani a gullible pushover in the process. Dalinar does almost nothing this book, which is really unfortunate. Once again the Fused are complete pushovers. There were almost zero negative long term consequences as a result of their actions, despite the Fused holding the Tower for most of the book. They had victory in their hands and still managed to lose. None of the heroes died, no one was injured, nothing was lost. Huge letdown. If Odium was smart he would have slaughtered everyone in the tower, or at least have evacuated them to Kholinar as prisoners. Keeping the Radiants alive makes a little sense to keep the spren from bonding someone else, but the humans had no reason to continue to be there. Additionally just on a worldbuilding side I would have made all of the Fused much more powerful in direct combat. Most of their powers suck, and need overhauled. I've detailed my thoughts on what they should be in other posts, but I'm still disappointed with what we got. WaT: Do I even have to say it? There's a lot wrong with this one. The dialogue and prose needs quite dramatic alterations, as do Brandon's poor attempts at humor. Kaladin needs a better end goal than just "Help Szeth." Even with Dalinar's instructions I feel like Kaladin would at least try and be more helpful to the Radiants efforts. Brandon even had it set up perfectly for Kaladin to try curing Ishar so Ishar could help Dalinar. He could have even had Wit message Kaladin and say they need Ishar to make a Perpendicularity because Dalinar is stuck in the SR. Either would have given much more urgency or at least more weight to what Kaladin was doing. Cut some of the needless bloat. Adolin's chapters could be trimmed down a little, as could some of Jasnah's, and almost all of Rlain and Renarin. I know Brandon was setting up for book 6 there, but there's still a lot that isn't necessary. Brandon needs to stop holding back with the Fused and Unmade. Yelig-nar shows up for the third time in the series and we skip over that like it's nothing. The Azimir sections did a good job of showing how outmatched the heroes are. Narak needed the same treatment, but instead felt rather hollow when they had to retreat. Some plot holes need filling. There should have been some mention that they couldn't lock the Azimir Oathgate. And Sigzil needed to swear the fourth ideal to get his armor as we saw in TSM. Brandon could have easily done that by altering the point where Sigzil breaks his oath to be him considering that and the deciding to try and swear the fourth ideal instead. Not only would that have been a cooler scene, and it would also have given him the power needed to overcome the fabrial, but it would have let Brandon pull the heartstrings as Moash killed Sigzil's spren anyway. Gavilnor. Above everything else I hated this the most. Gavilnor was a terrible choice of a champion, and almost anything else would have been better. But enough of my thoughts, how about the rest of you?

Potential future arms race for shards
Frustration replied to TheEmperor95's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No, the vacuum merely separated it from the rhythms of Roshar allowing it to be overwritten. The Investiture was still tuned to a shard during the process. -
Potential future arms race for shards
Frustration replied to TheEmperor95's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Welcome to the Shard. That's not really what Navanni did. Anti-investiture is still tied to its original shard, just with an inversion. What you are referring to is corrupted investiture, i.e. one shard co-opting the investiture of another, and they do do this. For reasons we don't know they don't do this to entire shards, probably because it would require all of their own. -

Ah, I was thinking about the battle scene in RoW, where she turns all the air in the vicinity into oil, including inside people's mouths before lighting it. -
That was in reference to their strategy for getting gemhearts, Sadeas would race to the gemhearts with a small force, Dalinar would follow with a larger, but slower one.

That's one way to interpret it. Another would be that while they may have the ability to preform lashings on objects it's difficult for them, or otherwise restrictive to the point that they don't. That one is purely mechanics, and one that isn't even consistent in the RPG as those actions do not appear in the stat blocks. In WoK page 501 Jasnah soulcasts fire with enough precision to burn words onto a page when she runs out of ink. Or that Fused are invested enough that she can't soulcast him directly, or that it's more effective to cover multiple enemies in oil rather than just soulcasting one of them into fire, as she burn that entire part of the battle field. But Brandon hasn't exactly been consistent on this: True, but Books trump WoBs Society and individuals are quite different. As for can you flashbang? Yes, brightlight and loud noise will work, and you can do them, especially the light It cost him Narak. The goal was to draw away Radiants and other armed forces from other battle fronts, which failed. While he wanted his soldiers in Narak, flying a few Masked ones wouldn't have taken much time, and adding a few illusions would have kept the deception going longer. Simply putting stationary illusions on gemstones would have worked, which we know Lightweavers can do, especially where we know voidlight is easy to get and leaks much slower from gemstones. With that you only need one Masked one per ship, or maybe even less if that's all they do, along with some regals to refill the voidlight. Even if that only held the forces in Theylenah for another day or so that would probably have won Narak. -

We haven't, but if you have the ability to make it for over seven thousand years you probably should have figured it out. True, but she also wanted to win. We didn't see any on that front, but between Azimir and Narak there should have been several. And Azimir did have several fused, we see Taln killed dozens of them. How so? You only need one per ship if they can make external illusions as easily as Lightweavers, and there were plenty of Skybreakers to get them there. That would be interesting -
SYLADIN SHIPPERS UNITE! (Full SA Spoilers)

I don't watch a ton of anime so I can't say. For Syl however that's just how the bond works. We see similar things with Pattern, Timbre, Design, and the Stormfather, all of whom are adults by their standards.- 61 replies

Frustration replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ah, I see. Sure The Masked One in OB should have used a flashbang to get rid of Chiri-Chiri Deepest Ones in Urithiru should have sunk the soldiers feet into the stone rather than trying to grab them Raboniel should have sealed the pillar off with stone in case the humans made it through the hallway at that same time When Raboniel was infusing the nodes with voidlight she should have made a stone barrier to block Kaladin and continue infusing the nodes. She even had the voidlight on hand to make it happen Wood shouldn't block the Deepest Ones in WaT, especially during the battle of Narak when they were trying to get into Narak 3 to get the Radiant's stormlight. Deepest Ones should sink the defenders into the stone in WaT, even if the stonewards could dig them out, it would force them to use what little stormlight they had, while Deepest Ones could refuel easily from regals the plateau over. Deepest Ones should have tried fighting the stonewards to weaken the walls they used to protect themselves from the Focused ones in WaT for the same reason. However all they did was enter the walls and try to attack from there. Deepest Ones or Altered Ones should have tried making bridges between the plateaus Abidi shouldn't have needed to steal the soulcaster in WaT to make a barrier of bronze. Either Deepest Ones making a stone barrier, or Altered ones with steel or stone should have been enough. Flaming oil shouldn't have been a problem for the singers in Azimir, as they could turn it to water or sand. Masked Ones should have been creating illusory armies all over the place in WaT. In particular the ships being sent to Theylenah failed because no Masked One was making illusory people inside of them, but Azimir and Narak should have had them as well. I recall Voidlight healing being slower from the RoW first chapters, but I suppose I should double check that. However even if it only takes 5 seconds to regrow an arm, that's still five times longer than the opponent needs to cut off another one, or their head. I only recall the bodies of Heavenly Ones glowing, but that's because they are always using lashings Once they could stop coming back, but the Heralds often left without all of the Fused dying first. It includes tactics and similar strategies. While Brandon has said that the lore is accurate he hasn't listed what lines are considered lore or not. I'd consider the first few chapters of the world guide to be lore, but once the stat blocks start I consider it all mechanics. -

Sadeas never would have wiped the Parshendi out, he was against Dalinar's expedition. He would have kept doing bridge runs until the Listeners summoned the Everstorm. So now the humans lose their best Radiants, don't get to Urithiru until Jasnah returns, they don't have a Bondsmith with a Connection to the Thrill, so Theylenah falls, assuming they can even get a Windrunner to open the gate. Szeth is never defeated, and so he continues to kill monarchs which causes a greater amount of social unrest. He also never goes with Nale, so Lift doesn't have anyone to help her in Edgedanncer, which means Nale continues to kill Radiants around the world, which further weakens humans ability to fight back. There's no one to save Elhokar, so he dies, assuming Sadeas lets him live that long, which likely fractures Alethkar as the various Highprinces fight each other. There are no visions so no coalition is made. Basically everything other than Azimir ends up in the control of either Taravangian or Odium. However Taravangian doesn't have any bargaining chips and thus looses the upcoming battle, and Odium wins.

Heavenly ones are the only ones I can think of where it wouldn't be more effective. Deepest ones should never try and grab people, just sink them up to their ankles in the stone, that's way better. They should have been able to get inside of the storerooms in Narak 3 as well, as they could have turned the wood into paste with their voidlight. Ah, I see. Not necessarily, because while yes they can heal from a lot of damage as we have seen that doesn't entirely negate the effects. Abidi would have been able to fly during WaT if he had had better armor. Additionally as we saw with Shallan, healing doesn't remove a weapon that gets lodged inside of you, so your healing is spent while you still die. Armor is just better. Additionally while you can heal from damage that takes time, and as the video I linked earlier shows removing limbs, or even cutting people in half with a good weapon is startlingly easy. Considered, but not shown to actually be that dangerous. Adolin is able to kill them with just his normal weapons in the CR. And even just with what people say we know that the humans have killed Fused using sticks. If by before they could wield surges includes before half of them got stripped of carapace armor I would agree. Fighting them without steel would be suicide. That's not so clear Sure Failed to take Theylanah Failed to take Herdaz for a year despite Herdaz not having Radiants Failed to make any significant headway after a year of fighting Failed to hold Southern Makabak Failed to hold Urithiru Failed to Take Azimir They aren't very good at winning. That's what the books say, but not what the books show. Not that I consider losing ten people to be a high price to pay, especially as they'll be back. However despite the number of desolations every single one was won by humans. Yes I'm aware of that section, I still consider that a part of the stat block and non-canonical. ^ This. Those are my thoughts exactly. -
The organization and power of Odium's army.
Frustration replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes I'm aware, but other than in OB we never see them do that. I'm assuming you're referring to this one That's not about the amount they hold, that's the investiture within their souls. At fourth ideal Kaldin would be immune to suppressor fabrials whether he was holding stormlight or not. Just like with allomancy, as long as a little of it is inside, the whole thing counts as inside. I'm assuming you're sourcing this from the coppermind. Beware, Ruin's influence is all over there, and may lead you astray. The pages you sited earlier were the Fused stat blocks, not the worldbuilding and lore pages. Spheres are only a couple of mg, with even Broams only being 400mg. A gemheart is multiple times larger. Strength is not the end all be all. A lot of the reason I give Stormforms and direforms superior rankings to fused is that they have armor, which is far more important than just strength. And for all of their talk the Fused have not been shown to be particularly skilled in combat. -
Windrunner shardplate being able to protect their radiant while invisible. Everyone said I was crazy, but vindication was sweet. Stormfaker theory being a crackpot. Highstorms going away. BAM being in another realm. I actually theorized the CR, but I'll take it. Less than 2 characters would die in WaT.
