  1. There’s dozens of other threads on this. The general conclusion seems to be that we have the foundation (allomancy) for FTL, but in-world, the level of technological and scientific understanding isn’t high enough. I don’t think we’ll see FTL until fourth era mistborn, or the third trilogy.
  2. I mean you could always just modify it to “fly me where I ask you to go.” That eliminates the problem of really complex commands. The above would only be effective if you knew where you wanted to go. Sorry, but I want my awakened paper airplane dogfights.
  3. The song “Broken” works pretty well for most of the main characters. Especially Shallan.
  4. My theory is that the fourth ideal will have something to do with leadership or taking charge. The divine attributes are protecting/leading. I think that the first two paths were protecting. “I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.” and “I will protect even those I hate so long as it is right.” The fourth oath probably deals with taking charge and responsiblity- for protecting others. “I will take responsibility for the protection of others, but let them go when I can’t.” Kaladin has issues with realizing that he can’t protect everyone. I think that’s an issue that many wind runners struggle with, and that’s why the fourth oath is so hard to swear. What seems to attract honorspren is a willingness to self-sacrifice for the good of others. But in Kaladin, this translates to self-sacrifice to the point of self-destruction.
  5. “Well first,” said Leona, “you need stormlight. We radiants generate it passively, but unless you store it or use it” she held up her ring. “It goes away. So most of us keep some form of gemstone on our bodies to store stormlight. The Bondsmiths also generate stormlight, but at a much faster rate.” She reached in her pocket and held out a bracelet with a single garnet on it. “It’s probably not your style, but it’s the only one i’ve got on me. And it already has stormlight.”
  6. This is hard. The first one I read was Warbreaker, followed by TWoK. But my favorite is probably WoR, because so much happens in it.
  7. There’s a running theory that there are actually more than ten heightenings, and that the only reason that there are ten listed is because nobody has managed to amass that many Breaths. It could possibly go to 16, or another number if you’re a fan of the “every shard/system has a number” theory.
  8. This seems like a really cool idea, but how much does awakening obey the rules of physics? When I think of awakening a flying machine, two things come to mind. The ornithopters in Dune and the Paperwings in Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen. The paperwings are canoe-like structures with long wings attached. They are made of a strengthened form of laminated paper. I think a paper mache cockpit with similar wings articulated somehow would do the trick. Of course, the matter of controlling it would be a problem. Sample command: "Fly me places, ascending when I say X and descending when I say Y....." continuing with commands for left, right, accelerate, and deaccelerate.
  9. "I have transportation and transformation. I can teleport and make things into other things. Pretty sure the Lightweavers have transformation and Illumination?" She wasn't quite sure on the last bit, and hoped one of the others would confirm her.
  10. Leona thought carefully for a minute. “Our abilities are different. Mine allow me to manifest my conscious or even my entire body in Shadesmar. For me, I inhale stormlight - I keep it in a ring-,” she held up her right hand, which held a silver ring inset with a deep blue stone that was glowing faintly. “And sort of close my eyes? For you, I think it would appear more like an overlay on top of your normal vision.” She grimaced slightly. “It’s pretty difficult. You’ll probably want another lightweaver to teach you, but barring that, Id be more than happy too.”
  11. Leona waved to Ax and Jason. “I made some carrot cake. It has nutrition. If you squint. It’s on the counter if you want it.”
  12. Taking an arrow to the knee is on the list of ways to die. Seems pretty innocent right? It’s acuually from a video game, Skyrim, IIRC. But wait. That line was actually taken from The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. The main character, Kvothe states “I took an arrow to the knee three summers back” when asked about a limp.
  13. Leona snatched a fork and began eating some cake.
  14. “Yeah, of course.” said Leona. Turning to Edwin, she replied. “Maybe. Not quite sure. I’ve never gotten a stomachache from too much cake, but it’s probably possible.”
  15. “Excuse me?” Leona asked. “Cake is the most wonderful substance known to man and radiants alike. And I can make nutritious cake. With protein.” She shrugged. “I’m going to mix it up and make carrot cake. Hope that’s okay with everyone.” Walking into the kitchen, she grabbed some play doh and set it on a plate. She molded it into a cylinder shape. Closing her eyes, she inhaled deeply. When she opened them, she was in Shadesmar. The process of making cake had been repeated so often over the past few days, it barely took a second to do. The only hiccup occurred when she asked it to be carrot cake, and vaguely nutritious. Exhaling, her vision faded back into Physical Realm. She ripped Azriel off her back, and violently sliced the cake into several pieces. That felt really good. She whacked Azriel through the cake again a couple more times for good measure. Oops. She’d cut the plate as well. But it wasn’t like they couldn’t make more. Carefully, she placed the cake on paper plates and walked back into the family room.
  16. “Yeah,” Leona said. “I’d love to go shopping. But maybe we can have breakfast first. Cake anyone?”
  17. “Well, perhaps we should try and solve the actual problem?” Leona interjected. “Whatever the thing messing with or dreams is, it’s clearly very dangerous.”
  18. "Just the people in here." Leona replied, gesturing around the room. "I've been up for maybe three hours? I'm not really sure."
  19. "There was a battle?" Leona asked. She didn't remember anything like that, but she guessed it must have happened after she woke up. "I'm assuming nobody was hurt, but..." she trailed off.
  20. What about one of those plaited pastries and filled with cinnamon, then shaped to look like a skyeel? My mouth is watering. Somebody with baking skills, please make this!
