  1. I think it is more accurate to look at things the other way around. Think of an allomancer as a fabrail with Preservation as the spren.
  2. Or at least her odds were better that way. Making a few coded references that a casual observer(like a bribed servant) won't understand might said Shallan in the right direction. Even if she is not talking about what we think she is she is probably referencing something.
  3. Shallan is Chuck Norris confirmed!
  4. But she also said "make sure you look through my rooms before anyone else does. Something important is back there."
  5. I prefer a constant uncertainty of weather she killed her or not. It would be more in keeping with the Lightweaver mythos. No way to know for sure no way to verify, always a possibility depending on how you see it.
  6. I think it was the other way around. Shallan does not have an objective source(Pattern) so she can't know she did not do it.
  7. Only if the fused want to keep a large number of forces in hostile territory for long periods of time. If Dalinar gets pissed off they might find themselves fighting angerspren at various intervals and that is not even considering what local sapient spren might do.
  8. Someone got in her head. I do not want her to be a murderer.
  9. The quotes make it pretty clear(those did not carry) that they are talking about people and their natures. She talks about how a specific wine reminds her of a person and so on. Ialai already assumes she is dead. She is just gauging her assassin before she pulls a Gavilar.
  10. Roshar is a mechanism that does something. If you interfere with that mechanism you can make highstorms come at the wrong time(the stormform listeners proved this). I don't know what other effects exist but it looks like someone found one.
  11. This analysis seems a bit better(I think anyway).
  12. I don't think the shard Cultivation did anything. I think they manipulated some natural process of Roshar and it went wrong. Introducing an invasive species is a small action yet it can cause a cascade failure that destroys an entire ecosystem.
  13. Murder. She told Shallan it was going to happen.
  14. Agreed although the tenses she use don't support that. Seems like she is making a prediction.
  15. Restares is another candidate. Assuming Ialai thinks Shallan knows who Sadeas is then Ialai is pointing out that he has no real power and will likely be co-opted by someone either strong or noble. I agree. My current theory is that the assassin hit her with a soothing, rioting or equivalent as a gaslighting method.
  16. You mean this?
  17. Considering that the spiritual realm is based on platonic ideals Syl has to have a soul to exist if my understanding is correct.
  18. Spren have souls. What do you think Kaladin's soul is bonded with?
  19. Ialai is telling Shallan that she knows she is not who she says she is(Ialai suspects she is with the GBs). It is also a bit of parting advice and a sort of a threat. You can't fake things forever nor can you fake them perfectly. People will eventually catch on.
  20. Some areas probably have laws against swearing.
  21. I also talk to myself and am not hostile(except early in the mornings). I respect your experience but perhaps a counterexample. Plenty of people talk to themselves on the subway. You might not even notice. Another interesting way to think about it is all alomancers are fabrails of preservation
  22. OK if we are laying or guesses. Tin communicates information from the PR. Makes the spren more receptive to stimulation(good for alerters). Pewter does the reverse of tin making the spren less receptive although maybe more active once that threshold has been reached(makes sure your alerters don't become too sensitive). This also explains how Rysn's alerter fabrail could have worked(from Shin interlude). She calibrated it ahead of time for the number of people they had. That way it only noticed additional people. Rysn did use my suggested method of calibration but no pewter was involved. We now know that augmentatiors work using pewter. Steel used in reversers. Iron used in conjoiners. Both seem pretty obvious. They work off of physical connections. Brass and zinc we already know. Zinc projects. Brass consumes(I think this is how Navani's painrail works). Copper should project something cognitively. I think you will need it to build a more complex fabrail(have the one fabrail that works in tandem with another) you will need copper. Bronze does the reverse allowing a spren to "listen" cognitively(good for a different type of alerter). Sigh, now on to the metals we don't actually understand. Gold lets you get gimps at an something's soul. Maybe in future you will use it along with a painspren to identify murder weapons. Electrum shows the desires people? Kind of the reverse of gold? Nicrosil stores investiture. Kind of like a battery. Chromium helps drain investiture storage. Maybe acts like a release valve? Cadmium pushes spirits forward? Bendalloy slows down progression? Aluminum blocks(or possibly conducts) investiture. Duralumin does stuff with connection. Possibly aligns fabrails better. Might allow a faux bond.
  23. Not really. A collective name for a system of alters is pretty common in DID. That is only plausible if the paranoia is irrational. Currently it is not. She is trying to juggle a lot of secrets and is quite naturally feeling stressed about it. This does not mean she will become a bad partner. Depends. The spren might determine a lot but if you are thinking about a pairer vs an alerter then I think the metal is what is important. They also say "Ash's eyes!" and "Vev knows I need the help" Maybe. I hope it is not Gaz. We really don't know the Lightweavers well enough for this to work. An intriguing possibility is that one of Shallan's personalities is working for the GB in some capacity but they(collectively) are unaware. Another possibility is that they have a radiant with a spren who is spying on them. I actually think iron and steel are going to be conjoiners and reversers. That is completely normal actually. Usually switching alters does not give overt signs so you have to ask who you are talking to. Sounds like a lot of fun. Also a good way to avoid spectacle creep. My metals. As already stated I think iron and steel will be used to make conjoiners and reversers respectively. The effects both alomantic and feruchemical are both quite similar and I think it would work really well that way(making connections). I also think that bronze and copper will be used for some types of alerters. Maybe using copper you can communicate between different types of fabrials(like the spren ship). If someone ever makes some kind of computational fabrail I think its interface will involve copper.
  24. Including ether and void in some way is not exactly original either. In fact ether appears on the classical elements Wikipeadia page and void is not an unknown modification. They are symbols we understand. It is not what you use but how you use that really matters. Avatar's magic still blew us away not because their magic was original but because of how they linked the elements to personality, culture, and martial arts. I mean doesn't every author do this? In fact all of Harry Potter's training in book six is about the flaws in Voldy's philosophy. How he is afraid of death, the unknown, friendship and how that limits him. We do this IRL as well. When politicians wish to generate arguments against each other they point to how a particular policy acts in a way that groups of voters deem wrong. No need. It is best to be understood fully.
  25. ? Could you elaborate? He mentioned that are things. Does this correlate to any personality matrix? What does this kind of practice consist of? What types of behavior does it encourage? ANY practiced manner of thinking has pitfalls. If you work toward a particular way of thinking about things or doing things a certain way then their WILL be a way around them.
