  1. That could be Shallan's change in attitude over the past year. Before she was treating them either as the enemy or as reasons to not take care of herself because they had that job. She has clearly been making progress since then. I wonder if at some point we could go back and make a couple tweaks to Shallan's internal dialogue to make this clearer.
  2. Different planet. There is a network of commerce and migration through shadesmar.
  3. We don't know if he is just going to drop the act and just slash at him. Shallan thankfully is married to Adolin which makes her a citizen of Alethkar and a member of the Alethi court. Jasnah is her monarch. The only other agents present are her man at arms, her husband, and soldiers loyal to the crown. The spy would probably sell out(through spanreed if necessary). They tend to do that. If their motivation is political they will probably contact the successor or at least some other group that works in opposition.
  4. Since I am a negative person I can think of some things that kill posts. Not paying attention to what people are saying. Continuing to push after everyone else is done. (Basically just read the room and be respectful).
  5. Wyndle is talking about manifesting their minds fully in shadesmar. The more skillfully you do this the longer they last (and the more fully they are able to express themselves maybe). Shallan does this in OB with several items.
  6. Figure out approximately how many tailsimins there are. As @Frustration's video pointed out having one of them is like having the key to a kingdom. Having one grants imminence wealth and possibly military might. Some low to moderate level physic abilities? They are better at reading people and can maybe control them to some degree with practice(like causing people to fall asleep or say something they did not intend to). Mental training makes you largely immune and all the nobility have this. Got you. Court/bureaucratic intrigue. That is a good and very realistic idea. I recommend establishing some norms that everyone follows at least most of the time. For example length of tenure/seniority matters. Potentially power/skill with magical abilities as well. How do relations between people with different powers work? Are some combinations particularly noteworthy/scary? That implies a very careful bureaucracy. Saying you have less workers then you do would be an easy way to skip out on taxes. The bureaucracy must be kept loyal and must be extremely competent.
  7. Unfortunately I can't. Hence my uncertainty.
  8. I meant does he actually intend to suspender even temporarily or is he just messing with Kaladin. Shallan can act under Jasnah's authority. Jasnah is a sovereign ruler. How she chooses to police her own people is her own business. No it does not. Spies have a large number of motives but unless you ID them if you kill their employer they can easily be co-opted by someone else. That would not plug the hole just redirect the information.
  9. Welcome!
  10. Hoid left a false trail. Maybe. I do think a shadesmar connection might be on track. The bondsmiths do seem to have always had the ability to partially open a perpendicularity.
  11. Shallan is a good person trying to do her best in a highly dangerous situation despite being put through a tremendous amount of personal suffering and far too many people who dislike her are treading dangerously close to victim blaming(I know that last bit is inflammatory. For the record I am not accusing anyone of anything and do recognize that people have perfectly legitimate reasons to dislike her.).
  12. I have been doing some reading on DID and this came up.
  13. I may have gotten the reasoning. I think this practice generally favors both sides minimizing casualties. This causes combats to be drawn out with the deaths only happening one at a time. In purely military terms as Kaladin noted killing each other does not do much. We have seen no indication that crazy fursed are incapable fighters and training new Windrunners does not take that long. It also insures that the most skilled fighters last longer indicating that the fighting in the air will be done by professional soldiers. A fun thought experiment is to wonder what happens when out of the blue this practice is initiated from an evolutionary perspective. Less dedicated fused and Windrunners tend to die more often thus reducing the number of casual members. The same is true for the fused. This protects civilian populations on both sides during the war something the fused do probably care about for both practical and personal reasons. The same is true for the Windrunners. Even in warfare things are not always zero sum.

  15. I don't think Truthwatchers have squires. Not all orders do and we have not seen any so far. Welcome to the shard BTW.
  16. Windrunner third ideal as of OB.
  17. ? No there isn't. The only stable perpendicularity is in the horneater peeks.
  18. I think so.
  19. So that is the theoretical way in which power is recognized but what makes it real? Is their some kind of institution (like a priesthood) that verifies who has more power? How are disputes and jurisdictions decided by people of the same tier? What responsibilities do magical types have to the lower classes(even if only in theory)? This implies a fairly sophisticated bureaucracy(otherwise high taxes are really hard to track and implement). Who runs it and how? Also if their are no other nations then what do the taxes go to? Finally high taxes mean a pretty complicated economic system. Went to talk about the merchant class? Other then being a powerful mage(and maybe a decent general) are any particular attributes associated with the Mystic?
  20. Dominion, Devotion, Ambition, Honor and one other shard has been splintered IIRC. Odium has tried various tactics to make this permanent. Harmony is of course Ruin and Preservation combined. WoBs indicate that around half of all shards are whole.
  21. Aluminum resists investiture. There is an upper limit we have just not seen it yet. I personally think you could not use aons in a room enclosed in aluminum as that would restrict access to the dor but we don't know. You probably could not use an aluminum bar to make aons but again we are not certain.
  22. Which it currently is. Adding infant heirs might actually make this worse as "supporters" of one heir or another may try a coup. Eventually. Putting Shallan out of commission for several months is probably a bad idea.
  23. Late bronze early iron. Got it. Got it. So in the right area to spot a specific eclipse has power x. Depending on what you choose as your celestial event you could drastically very the number of people with each power. Solar eclipses would usually give you about four people a year for example(if your planet was earth). That also implies the wealthy will have the capability to acquire more powers then the poor(by hiring astronomers and traveling to the right places). Can you double up(get increased power by going through the right phenomena twice)? How is this power recognized(if at all). Could a really smart person fake having super intelligence? Social or political? How is this power exercised? Are there large numbers of cities with bureaucracies? Also how sophisticated are their economic and legal systems? What industries exist? Are people more nomadic or do they tend to stay in certain areas? Are their different nationalities and cultures?
