Which non-human species would you want to be?
Karger replied to StanLemon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Parshendi. I want to be able to focus on things one at a time. -
Unlike the average person I am profoundly grateful for skybreakers both in the real world and in the world of Roshar. Individuals involved in the practice of law including lawyers, cops, and judges are often portrayed in popular media as arrogant, confusing, unfair, or indifferent. Sometimes this is warranted. Institutions and individuals responsible for preserving and carrying out the law are just as prone to failure as anyone or anthing else and deserve recrimination when their failures hurt people. At the same time though law enforcement has created an era in which assaults, rapes, thefts, and murder are all increasingly rare. With that out of the way I am grateful for the Rosharan skybreakers for an entirely different reason. This reason is that they clearly explain their code and oaths as soon as asked. The skybreaker oaths that we understand are I will put the law before all else I swear to follow(insert chosen code) The Ideal of Crusade(The skybreaker completes a chosen quest) Interestingly the personification of lady justice also has three symbols associated with her. Her sword, her scales, and her blindfold. According to Wikipedia The sword represented authority in ancient times, and conveys the idea that justice can be swift and final.[10] The scales represent the weighing of evidence, and the scales lack a foundation in order to signify that evidence should stand on its own. The blindfold represents impartiality, the ideal that justice should be applied without regard to wealth, power, or other status The first oath gives Szeth authority to administer justice he demonstrates this with Nightblood. The second oath is a bit more complicated however it could be interpreted that the code that he eventually decides to follow must stand on its own merits and be self contained. Finally the blindfold indicates that when Szeth goes on his chosen crusade he will not be able to stay his hand because of new circumstances or personal entanglements but must rather carry out justice without regard for his own inclinations. Interestingly lady justice has another symbol although this one is less common. In some depictions she wears the clothing associated with Rome's ruling class to indicate her status and accordion to a proverb her dedication to peace. "Cedant arma togae," which means "Let arms (war) give way to the toga (civil power)." Perhaps this is some indication of the final ideal? Also my pattern of radiant oaths can be found here.

If an object has nothing to store it will not store anything.

I agree that she is realistic. I still can't stand her and I hope Spensa kills her in a few books.

Good catch. This could be a reference to the fact that they don't have three eyes, pointed ears, or a sixth toe. Remember many societies have a wide range of skin colorings and it is only recently and on earth that we decided to attach much importance to it. Dusk's people are seafarers they may have met a veriety of differently colored people and decided not to attach any importance to it. It could also take a long time to load a computer program this complex. Remember (if you are old enough) some of the earlier models? Taking several hours to get ready to work was not uncommon. Also I have no idea how anyone would use sand mastery to do anything other then master sand. We have had many discussions about this so I will just state my opinion here. I do not think that a resident shard necessarily shapes more then the magic system. I also think that even that is a little loose. Brandon often makes thematic connections in his books between the shards and the characters but they don't always effect how everything works. It could mean anyone in the Cosmere. No sorry. From the coppermind. I know of no organism that can survive the necessary temperatures to make glass.

Oh misread the question. I suppose it could have been destroyed.

Lightsong! The perfect returned. I hope that someone founds a church in his name. He is my kind of god.

The answer to this one is yes BTW. Thank you to all those who both asked and recorded.

Spren do in fact read. They enjoy doing so during their leisure time good catch. Perhaps the visions are presented in a way that is supposed to make sense to Glys or a hybrid of Glys and his human.

Yeah that is what I am referring to. Autonomy is a bit for lack of a better word "odd."

I really hatted Brade both as a person and as a character. She is so full of herself. She has probably not met another human since she was 7 and despite that she thinks she knows what it is to be human and that she gets other humans and that all other humans are like her? I really can't stand being around people who have so little confidence in their own identity. I recognize that many people have no choice in who they are and have to surrender certain parts of themselves for self preservation purposes but Brade claims to be unshakable in her self image.

A lot of shards like Endowment might not be fighting other shards. As such we they will probably not be particularly important to the cosmere in general and will likely get stand alone books/novellas.

By steeling the connection between man and spren. If the bond was through the spiritual realm Syl would be able to move unlimited distance from Kaladin without loosing her mind.

In the type of literature that Brandon was clearly making fun of(in a good way) there are nearly always two men.

But not the richest part of the world. Ahh euro-centrism good to see you again. China was actually the most educated, most technologically advanced, most populated country on earth during the early 19th century. It also had a large bureaucracy and a strong innovating community . Easy to mine coal is actually somewhat uncommon outside Europe. This is the likely source of your eurocentrism(and most eurocentrism). Which is fine. Keep some of that cement that falls from the sky every two weeks handy. Also a problem with normal channels FWI. They were large scale construction projects generally made by the central government or the military of those nations. They were incredibly expensive. The cost of getting a shardblade or soulcaster to do the work seems similar. Because it was deemed a militarily secure place to put those industries during the world wars. The river is a natural defense against invasion. My point was that in all of your examples on a couple of them even work. For an example to actually hold water(pun not intended) you are going to need to list a verity of examples that all agree. For example Canada has more natural water ways then the US but it took longer to industrialize.

The only relevant WoB is that the three great spren are "omnipresent" this could mean one of two things. 1. The stormfather is so great that he has an extended range with his human and as such aluminum could block it or 2. The stormfather is part of all roshar and as such aluminum could probably not block him. We also know that Dalinar can currently sense the presence of his spren and always knows which way is east.

It is an interesting question though. Why would SR visions manifest as writing to someone who can't even read?
