  1. Yes, but what good would fighting do for Taravangian once he has been uncovered? His plan is to become leader of the human side and betray it. that cannot work if he is known to have an alliance with Odium. He cannot hope to win such a fight. And why would Malata go down fighting for him? She seems to be the type to switch sides in such a case.
  2. Hoid said that he never learned the language wisdom speaks. You could take that extremely literally to mean that she is Sho Del.
  3. No. Otherwise Hoid could not ask what the meaning of "hound" in axe-hound is.
  4. Why would she do that? Once Taranangian is found out what can he do? And what is in it for Malata? Taranangian's deal with Odium pretty much needs secrecy. Nobody outside Kharbrant is going to like it.
  5. For the same reason Kaladin's scar does not go away. The mental illness would become part of the sufferer's sense of self.
  6. Would they work? How much does a Nahel Bond change the mental state of a human being? For that matter would Stormlight treat medication as poison and undo the effect?
  7. There is also this period in the middle of the year without storms, when Shallan's family held fairs. Roshar outside Shin has no soil. Water is basically not retained. The Windrunner river is identified as an exception for falling dry only infrequently. I would say they have droughts frequently, but they are short. The whole ecology shows signs of adapting to aridity.
  8. Testing. She needs to know what happens, when it is used against various entities. Gathering ammo. Each user makes it stronger.
  9. According to Kelsier's experience interplanetary space is actually an expanse of solid rock as ground. So your problem is finding a way to carry enough supplies with you. But the mechanics of actual worldhopping, if you have a physical body, are easy: you walk. How you know which way to walk is another interesting question. But you walk.
  10. It won't do Dalinar any good if he gets some Parshendi on his side at the cost of losing the humans of western Roshar.
  11. Large numbers of people still don't trust the Knights Radiant. For now they can be seen as an Alethi power grab. Adding a Voidbringer to its leaders won't help. You really need Azish or Shin representatives. Especially as we do not know how many Bondsmiths we will get.
  12. Voidspren fly, at least the yellow guidance spren. So do many subspren. For this purpose I see no reason to limit the discussion to spren commonly bonding Knights Radiant.
  13. That is an extremely risky move with respect to the image of the Knights Radiant. They are dangerously close to a Kholin family business and definitely much too Vorin. A Bondsmith from western Roshar looks like a political necessity to me. As for Navani, she is an engineer more than a scholar, hence Dustbringer of Willshaper, if it comes to that. Not everybody can be or needs to be a Surgebinder.
  14. No, that is too broad a generalisation. As far as we know the Shin and the Reshi Isles have few, if any Parshmen. And the armies were operational without Parshendi. The camp followers are human. Washer women are human. Human slaves are common and cheap. And the majority even in Alethkar are farmers. Roshar is not Sparta. With the Everstorm blowing?
  15. Have we ever seen humans from different worlds interbreed? Actually for Shin and the rest of the Rosharans to have different requirement only one of them has to be different. There is no need for the Shin to be the altered group. Indeed the appearance the Voidspren of Kaladin's group took strongly suggests that the Shin are the original type.
  16. She is likely speaking of wealthy lighteyes as "us". A village is dozens of people at least. Jasnah is pragmatic. If she knows that outright killing them is not an option many would implement, she will settle for expulsion. Better than nothing. Wanting is a category that fits Jasnah imperfectly. She wants to protect her family and kill Amaram. The rest of her actions are not guided by wishes. She operates on calm necessity.
  17. Then it should have started in the first book. The main problem I see is that you cannot really have a full exposure of Meridas Amaram and keep most of the mystery of why King Gavilar was assassinated. The same applies to the Ghostbloods. POV from Mraize or Iyatil would give too many secrets away.
  18. But also a waste. Build him up just to kill him right away. That would give away the opportunity to introduce the Sons of Honor in another way. Maybe even a Gavilar flashback.
  19. Not all of them. The better ones. It does not make sense from a systematic point of view. It does make sense from an ideological point of view. The pinnacle of a discipline is to make you more autonomous, becoming independent of an external need.
  20. What happens if you have enough breath for 5th Heightening and store youth in an atium mind? Do you still age? If not , how much youth can you store? And if you store too hard, will you die?
  21. Aluminium works outside. Silver presumably also would. However, what says that there must be three Metallic Arts? Outside of aluminium Ruin and Preservation likely had free choice in what they power. But it is not clear to me that they could choose the effects freely. It is entirely possible that other metals would have effects, if you hooked them up to an external source of Investiture.
  22. If Wyndle could use Progression by himself, why did he doubt Lift's ability to heal with Progression? He just would have done it himself.
  23. Then why can Pattern hover?
  24. No mating. I almost died with laughter. It may be childish, but so be it.
