  1. We need to figure out: What the magic system does. (Is anything possible with enough knowledge? Or is there restrictions?) What type of fuel. (This will dictate how hard it is to use the magic and have a big effect on point 3) How pervasive the magic is. (Is it common? Rare? Unheard of? So common place people don't even think about it?) What else?
  2. I'm liking this concept more! I would want them to be present in the setting. Something like the Returned with them having a temple where people could come visit them. They wouldn't need to be in the same city or anything. In fact even more interesting if they are genuine rivals. Imagine a city-state losing to a rival and the people's faith is shaken so much that the god "dies". Edit: I agree. I feel like no matter what we do there will be experimentation as we RP but having the foundations set would be good.
  3. I think this would work really well too. It is a cosmere function already I think.... *tries to remember all those random conversations with the Stormfather* Well I think it's a cosmere function. Would they be able to interact with the world? Or would they be just like the Roshar super spren? I haven't. Is he good?
  4. Maybe these could be the people with the innate powers. You wouldn't automatically become a god unless you had enough power. The "gods" still wouldn't be immortal as they are aging, but they (depending on how powerful they are) have a life expectancy of thousands of years. The demi gods (those who can do what the gods do but are to weak to gain the life extension) would be revered and/or feared.
  5. Sam rolled her eyes. "I'm scared of toasters! does that make you feel better?" She growled at him. She had to fight to keep the stupid grin off her face.
  6. I mean, yeah, but not to the degree that symbols are and ChaySan, as far as I'm aware, was only combat oriented. Crystals could work..... I was hoping for something more nature based (hence fireflies). Are you thinking different types of crystals have different affects or are you thinking there would be one type that facilitates everything?
  7. I like this a lot! though it is very similar to Sel...... Maybe they could use dances instead of symbols? Different dances have different affects. Anyone can perform the dances they just have to be taught. It would still take a group of people as one person dancing wouldn't create enough energy. The Innate magic could be something as simple as people who are powerful enough to create affects on their own. Or the Innates are those that don't need the dances altogether. We still need the fuel..... Maybe fireflies? Different colored fireflies would have different affects. They could be attracted by using flowers to lure them in and would need to be present for the dancing to work.... Or if we do symbols it could be ink made out of the bugs that make it so that the symbols do something.
  8. I believe we're all talking one Ritual system that can produce many different affects. Same as surgebinding is one system and yet it includes things like illusions and gravity manipulation. The thing that's going to tie everything together is going to be the fuel for the magic systems. I've heard crystals brought up, are there any other ideas? Edit: Missed your post @Invocation! I like it and it could work, but I would like to stay away from the elemental stuff....
  9. I like the idea.... but aren't the orders a mixing of Honor and Cultivation? I guess it could still work (I think all Cultivation does is facilitate growth in the oaths.)
  10. Hello and welcome! I love puns too I'm not an expert, but they do appear to work on the same principles. Which books have you read and which is your favorite?
  11. In flight WiFi is a joke I like where this is heading! Could you give an example? Maybe a third type that connects "on stage" with "back stage" (I just like things that come in threes!) Also would these rituals need the innate users or could it be used by anyone?
  12. I feel like hemalurgy makes things too easy..... You want a new power?just spike this person and you're done! I think we should have a variant form here though.... Or maybe they could just have very limited knowledge of hemalurgy. That's what I thought as well. How structured are we thinking the magic is going to be? Like allomancy with it being very rigid. Or more like each person has a unique ability?
  13. "What's there to be afraid of?" Sam asked. "It's just a tattoo."
  14. I'm having the same problem! We could still have prophecy. We could have a Nightwatcher-like spren, but instead of giving boon/curses it would give prophecies. This way it wouldn't be under any one person's control. I'm picturing it working something like this: a person visits the Seer and gets his prophecy. Community reads exchange and approves/disapproves. If we do go with the changing landscape we could have a species to match! They would be a people that would change depending on environment. For example: one of them has been living with a caucasian family. They decide to move and are now living with an Asian family. Over the course of a couple years his features would change so that it looked like he was born and raised in the asian family. If one of these people lived alone in the mountains their skin would start resembling stone. They would have no control over their ability and would be viewed with distrust by the general populace. (I wrote this on mobile so forgive any typos)
  15. I agree. The CR changes depending on the people's thoughts in a given area, so maybe we could just say that the PR and CR are merged to a greater degree. This would make the landscape in a constant state of flux while also making it more of a passive influence. (Harder for guilds to fake if they don't have complete control!)
  16. ...... You win this round...... Aren't there nonlethal bind points? Like in your arm? (I'm trying to remember that chart..... But I think that was on the placement of spikes not there creation.) If there were you could spike your own ability out of yourself, like bronze, then burn it to become an even more powerful bronze burner. Repeat as often as you want!
  17. Sam sighed. She walked to the wall signed her name and cut her self to leave some blood. She indicated her the back of her right shoulder for the tattoo. She smiled as she saw Bella blush at Maxwell.
  18. Unless you spiked their identity out first.....
  19. meanwhile, I'm still waiting for Szeth...... Sigh. Dalinar is by far my favorite character. he has always been at the forefront of world events and is the biggest plot pusher in the series. I don't think he'll die, but if this is causing real mental anguish, then it is time to step back. My advice would be to wait and read reviews after the books come out before making the decision to read or not read the next books.
  20. I agree with all this. When she said the Truth it forced her to face the problem rather than ignore it...... But being Shallan she found a loophole. She just decided she wasn't Shallan anymore.
  21. Sam watched Freyja's antics with fondness. Grateful for the time she had bought her and Nael. "Why do I have to choose? You're the one who wanted to join, I just followed you!" She hissed at Nael. "Freyja, don't you agree he should choose?" @Jaywalk @whattheHoid
  22. @galendoI don't want to derail this thread too much, however I do believe her personality split was caused by having to face her Truth. When she swore it she no longer could hide from it by suppressing it. So she made other versions of herself to escape. That I must say is her biggest character flaw, her inability to face her problems. Jashnah's seeming perfection is a little annoying..... I think it will improve once we get more of her PoV. I was really disappointed by how casual her return from the dead was handled. Or how easily Shallan caved to her authority again.
  23. Umm..... Her last truth literally broke her mind. She was fairly put together in WoK and WoR but at the end of WoR when she spoke her latest truth it broke her mind and shattered her soul into three pieces. Are these restraints? Not really. Do they affect her character? Definitely!
  24. "We don't have to If you don't want to. Tattoos aren't permanent though. All you would need to do to remove one is find a healing radiant." Sam murmured back.
  25. "What do you think?" Sam whispered to Nael. @Jaywalk
