I was thinking that challenging a person for Shards was if not common, not incredibly rare. A Shard bearer after all is nearly invincible to anyone not bearing a Shard as well. So a challenge for it is not going to very common unless the challenger already possess these. In which case they probably don't need more Shards. I'm going to comb WoK for references to dueling for Shards when I have time and see what the wording is.

Yes, I have a bad habit of arguing against every idea. Not to be a jerk, but if we stumble across the right idea, then we should be able to overcome any hurdles I throw in the way.

I am neither in favor but nor against any of the ideas posted here. However of we assume that Storm-light retention increases as KR swear more Ideals then we assume that less Stormlight is lost. A calm white light might be a description of a much lower level of leaked Stormlight. Anyone care to dig out a description of Szeth while taking in Stormlight? Is he sort bright or a just glowing? Edit: stupid swype...

Crazy Theory about Spren and Shardblades
DocHoliday replied to karaokeang's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Nahel spren do become the Shardblade, though maybe not a mute one. Nightblood anyone? My reasoning is Dalinars vision from WoR. Honor is saying how he surprised that the Spren IMITATED what he had done with the Heralds. Now we know Nahel spren grants access to Surges. What did Tanavast give the Heralds? Honorblades. Not Nahel-bonds, they didn't exist yet. Now who do we know that has Surge-binding, but NO Nahel-bond? And what creature is bearing my Lords own Blade?- 16 replies

If Renarin is able to back down from a duel, then what would stop any Highprince from refusing Adolin? Kind of a major plot hole if BS plans to seriously use this idea. Actually that is exactly what a devious minded Sadeas would do. He is more than cunning enough to hit the weak link in the chain and destabilize the Kholins first. Decisive? No. But it's an opening move, and even if he chose not to strike preemptively, it's still a knife to the throat. Think of drug lords. If they want you to do something, or NOT do something, they go for your family.

The Spirit of Whelan!

I was really thinking about Adolin during everyone for their Shards, I really really like this idea. Until I thought about what the counterattack is going to be. Adolin can readily defend himself. But there is another Kholin who doesn't have the first clue how to win a duel. Renarin. Tradition is that you can duel for these Shards, but I seriously doubt that it's too the first Shattered piece of Plate. I think Sadeas or another High Prince is going to fight Renarin, and if he doesn't kill him, I think he'll be maimed at least. Don't hate me feather. This is a real possibility.

In the phonetic alphabet, c, w, and x are removed from the alphabet because they are a reproduction of the sounds other letters already make. C is related by k and s. W by y or u. And x by z or an e-h-k-s sound.

That may be acc eye Rooster, but when I zoom in on it, it looks suspiciously like Aon Rao.

An interesting point Kurk, but I feel organic compounds are slightly more coherent in their Cognitive Aspect as there is an interdependency between the body's various components. Whereas doors can come and go in an inanimate object and have no influence on the rest of the object. Makes me wonder if Jasnah' s summoning of the palace in Shadesmar had a statue removed of the Herald, or of it still contained the state of Jasnah was unaware of the vandalism. Perhaps Kurk is right and its a matter of the Essences.

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
DocHoliday replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
@TomR: I just want to put on that I was incorrect about the usage of racist. I think of racism and prejudices in general as being the same ball of wax. Racism however is a very specific form of prejudice, that Kaladin is not a practitioner of. He is prejudiced however. OT: Amaran did a very bad thing. Regardless of reason, or guilt he felt. Can anyone say outright that the murdering of his subordinates was good? I used the word good. Not justified. Not ultimately right. Just: good. If you can't say that, then what are we arguing about? His reasons are his own. He's not Dr. Evil. He's a person. Not a hero or the devil. He made a call, hoping to increase his own power in the hope of doing some ultimately greater good. There is redemption there. That doesn't make the murder of Kaladin's squad ok. -
When I pick myself up of the floor I'll +1 this

Absolutely, but they're not 50% organic 50% fire. The whole of their being is transformed. Why is Shallon not a big puddle of blood?
-
You know I just reread Shallon (p.501) talking about Soul-casting, she says that Jasnah has a Soul-Caster that has a focus of 3 essences, but should be able to Soulcast any of the 10 essences. I find it interesting that fabrial are capable of making any of the essences, I thought that they had a subset that they were capable of making, and that was it. FAR more interesting to me, is that Jasnah can burn words into a piece of paper. How is that possible? In every instance we see the entire object being Soulcast into something different, but she is Transforming one small portion of an object into something different. Wait, wait, wait How did she even Soulcast Shallon's blood in the first place? If Shallon sees herself as having blood, then shouldn't her Cognitive Aspect include all the blood in her body? How then did Jasnah convince the blood to be something different?

So noted Darnam Wonko you may be the first person (I have observed) to get Darnham to at least accept another point of view. Absolutely no disrespect intended Darnam, you're a stubborn bronco but sometimes that's what 17th Shard needs. Upvote included to both of you.

Metalborn actually includes Feruchemists. Ferring is a Misting Feruchemist. Feruchemist is a Mistborn Allowmancer, I really don't see the need for BS to create a new word since in seemed very intuitive what he was referring to.

Funny thing is, I don't think the Alethi will ever unite under anyone. I believe that if Szeth should manage to kill Dalinar, the Alethekar nation would fall apart, and/or allow Sadeas to shatter it. The new excerpt from WoR seems to indicate that even if a Highprince were to trust Dalinar, he STILL won't trust ANY other Highprince not to try to take advantage of him. Not more than 1 Highprince gives a Damnation about Alethekar with Gavilar gone. I think Alethekar will BURN and serve as the stick to.get the rest of the Roshar to unite, possibly under Taravengian. And wouldn't that be ironic under Honor.

Excerpt from Words of Radiance: Chapters Six, Eight, and Nine
DocHoliday replied to kobain's topic in Stormlight Archive
It has the edge of a cliffhanger with t the word smoke. Notice we didn't get the chapter immediately following Shallon. Speaking of smoke in curious as to what caused it. Where there is some, there is fire. But Roshar uses spheres for light. Which begs the question, who brought fire to the fight? -
That makes sense porridge, but what about the barracks? Soulcast from sure they are has turned solid, not crem to rock as others have posted. Should we expect similar changes in air pressure? Edit: also, If the boulder was still boulder shaped then what changed physically? The smoke is less dense than smoke, but it's volume is increased substantially. If I recall density= mass x volume. Therefore if my mathfu hasn't completely deserted me we see that Soul-casting has decreased density by reducing the actual mass. Which is a negative return I think

I don't see how Jezrien could have taken up the whole of Honor. A Shardholder dieing is very different from shattering a Shard. It's the difference between holding a sheet of glass and a thousand splinters. Now a splitter of Honor is something different entirely. I've been toying with this idea though... Jasnah Jam( I love this term) had to have a Cognitive Aspect in order for her to Transform it. Considering it wasn't anything near real jam, I feel that this indicates there is a Cognitive Aspect for everything in the Cosmere. Does that mean that there is a Cognitive Aspect for Tanavast holding Honor in the Cognitive Realm? If so, does it exist in Kaladin's time? If so, is this the fabled Stormfather?
-
First thing that comes to mind Transfiguration= Transmutation? FMA. Secondly, about the shape changing business... wood to metal, doesn't change shape, but what about boulder to smoke? The whole pressure surge in Kharbranth. Was boulder still in the same shape when in was Transformed, or was the whole thing blasted into smoke molecules?
-
We should bear in mind that not every KR used ShardPlate and ShardBlade. If ShardPlate doesn't transfer the use of the Friction Surge, the EdgeDancers might just go without. *AHEM* *Pushes nerd glasses up* Allomantic pewter does not affect muscle mass, and therefore wouldn't move air. You may be thinking of Feruchemical pewter. Now external and internal differences...Surges all seem to affect actual physic properties. Which are certainly external to the individual. They exist beyond the individual. The confusion arises here I think because these properties can be applied to individuals. Despite this I would contend that Surges are still external in nature because these are forces that exist in nature to begin with. Surges allow for the manipulation of these forces and energies.

I can't find mention of it, but is the person who recruited Szeth for Taravengian a ElseCaller or LightWeaver? He Soulcast a wall into smoke, and a gemstone is mentioned as being suspended in his palm. But so is Jasnah' s. Is this man a Soul-Caster?
-
Jasnah has Soul-casted strawberry jam into a horrible organic compound of unknown origins. All she knew was what color, and presumably that it was a sweet tart flavor. She obviously failed to accomplish Soul-casting into a proper jam, however it does illustrate for us that Soul-casting into unknown foreign objects is possible. I wonder Shardlet, whether or not Jasnah Jam (new term?) had a Cognitive Aspect prior to its inception into the Physical realm, or if one was invented at the time of its creation...
